    all the boost formula games suck. and this one isn't even a 3D sonic game most of the time. they constantly put you in 2D sections and they control horribly. do not buy

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For someone who never really got a chance to try Sonic Colors back when I owned a wii, I finally got to play Sonic Colors Ultimate on a modern console. Here's my review:
    Pros:
    - For a story that began the writing of the "meta era" this is so much better than the games we get later on.
    - The graphics in my opinion look very good. It makes Sonic Colors feel more beautiful than the original (from gameplay footage I've seen from the wii)
    - The new homing attack system feels so satisfying. It shows you some skill of how to time your attacks perfectly against enemies which I find very fresh.
    - The wisps were a great addition to Sonic. Even tho I think they have been over used too much later on the series, this was a pretty neat addition.
    - The new Rival Rush is my favorite, it gets pretty challenging especially in Sweet Mountain which got me sweating for awhile.
    - The cosmetics are very cool. I hope they continue to do this for now on. It adds plenty of replayability to the game.

    Cons-
    - As much as I like the story, the dialogue in this game is not even funny. A character stays on the joke too and them explains about the joke which I don't find it amusing. It should have taken some notes from Sonic Unleashed.
    - The bugs in this game are everywhere. Hopefully these glitches will be patched later on.
    - This game relies on the 2D sections a bit too much which makes it boring.
    - The brightness in this game is just too damn bright that I might watch the sun rather than this game.

    Therefore, Sonic Colors Ultimate is an okay game    … Expand

    Absolute disgrace of a remaster full of glitches and missing audio half of the time. The visuals in Tropical Resort look terrible and there's way too much bloom.

    I played the very original on the Wii when I was a teenager. Its really sad to see how poorly the game has been treated by this port (I even preordered because I was excited to play this again on a newer console). While the writing has always been horrible yet laughable ("no copyright law in the universe is going to stop me", "hasta la bye bye"), the amount of glitches is insane. Bad on Sega for pushing the studio to finish early, but bad on the studio for using a new engine for the very first time and producing THIS. Fans can make better ports and make cut scenes look better than what was just put out! I have a lot of love for the sonic games, but this game actually caused me to rage quit. I can't even bring myself to finish it now, as of act 1 Terminal velocity, I died to literally nothing while having rings. Not worth it anymore to try. I know sonic '06 had its issues, but at least it was more playable than this. You could have reworked the Wii's mechanics into the switch's and it may have made it slightly more enjoyable, but I kinda doubt that now. Button controls for this game on the switch are janky. Customizable controls? Not fully. I wish some of the controls were not included with each other. (I.e. the boost with the drift). I really wish I could have free reign to switch them how I'd like.
    The motion blur is way too intense to the point I cannot even see things properly. Falling off the moving floor when going over the ship. I can seriously go on and on about the amount of bugs and glitches. The seizure-inducing glitches are WAY too easy to replicate.
    Honestly not seeing a single patch yet for all the bugs and game breaking glitches is just saddening. Sega truly has not learned their lesson, and continues to not listen to their fans. This is the worst port I have ever seen for switch. Cons:

    - Too many to list honestly, just know it out weighs any single pro


    Pros:
    - the customization options are kinda neat.
    - Icons that come with the game are only in game, kinda lame But can forgive that.

    This game is great. Despite the bugs and glitches found prior to the release and when it came out, I haven't found much problems with Sonic Colors Ultimate. At least on the Xbox One, of course. The only thing that I have a problem with, however is that the loading times when starting levels feels slower than it should. Other than that, the game is solid.

    Having played the original on the Wii the game is great, while it's heavily improved there are a few problems such as forced Tails Saves and was disappointed by the customization only be recolors for the most part.

    The game is an absolute disgrace to this franchise. It's filled to the brim with bugs, glitches, a terrible story and uninspired level design. I tried it for the first time and I can agree that the game is overrated. Please never go back to this Sega.

It takes the original and improves and adds on to what is already there. Improved graphics and framerate, all new remixed tracks, brand new gameplay features andSonic Colors Ultimate, while flawed in some technical and finer aspects such as a few audio hiccups, the length of the main campaign, and the once in a blue moon UI bug, is overall a very solid remaster of the 2010 Wii classic. It takes the original and improves and adds on to what is already there. Improved graphics and framerate, all new remixed tracks, brand new gameplay features and modes, and added extras truly makes this the Ultimate way to play one of the best Sonic games in the blue blur's 30 year history.     I don't understand why this remaster is going so bad.I played on the xbox ones version so Im gonna talk about this version.I will separate this review into topics.

    1- Soundtrack and remix The song is good or not is an opinion not a fact. You can hate the entire sound track or just love. But for me the soundtrack is bad and good. The remixes made by Jun Senoue are amazing and epic    I don't understand why this remaster is going so bad.I played on the xbox ones version so Im gonna talk about this version.I will separate this review into topics.

    The song is good or not is an opinion not a fact. You can hate the entire sound track or just love. But for me the soundtrack is bad and good. The remixes made by Jun Senoue are amazing and epic they reminding me of theSA1, SA2 and SH songs. But the songs from Tomoya Ohtani are very weak (the exception being the aquarium park act 1 remix) they fells like a generic pop.

    2-Controls

    They are very good I didn't have any problem with them, and the idea of ​​customizing the controls are very good I liked. And it was very good for me because I dont like the idea of ​​using the boost on the B from Xbox so I made some changes on my configuration.

    3- Gameplay and graphics

    The gameplay is the same from the wii or in other words very good. The addition of wisp jad was already very good and it feels like it was already in the original game. Rival Rush wasn't a great addition to the game but it wasn't bad, it seems like the Metal Sonic has its gameplay unique and separate from Sonic. This explains why it sometimes feels like he is flying but he is actually on a platform.The graphics are beautiful but the bloom effect makes some stages a little dark but others are very beautiful.

    4- Bugs

    The game don't have too much bugs but these bugs don't happen all the time. But many bugs are caused by people who bought the game just to cause these bugs and badmouth the game. Because the most impressive ones are purposely caused. And they're probably just talking really bad about the game at this level because they wanted the SAs to have a remaster of this level or a remake.    … Expand

    Agradable a la vista, buen estilo de arte, buena banda sonora. Lo unico negativo son los Bugs y las escenas que se ven como Wii y baja calidad. Positivo que no hay nada de politica ni agendas. Gracias SEGA por mantener neutro el juego sin mensajes politicos.

    The best Sonic game in the series!
    Sonic Colors is an amazing experience with well implemented wisps and amazing level design, the graphics are candy to the eyes and the story and voice acting is good and the music is amazing.

    No bugs and glitches at all, if anyone says there's bugs and glitches than he's lying to make Sonic looks bad, DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM!

    One of the best remasters of a classic video game. The game's updated visuals and models are top notch, the controls are greatly improved, and the added customization, rival races, and wisp powers are phenomenal. Highly recommended for any fan of platformers.

    The game itself is just as fun as I remember it. I didn't encounter too many glitches in my play through. I also think the remixed soundtrack is pretty decent and the customization is a neat little addition as well as rival rush.

    Sonic Colors is probably one of the best 3D sonic games and it is very fun to play, Sonic Colors Ultimate is very fun to play too. The story is simple, which is good. For me this game have one of the best selection of places, like: the bright starlight carnival and the amazing planet wisp. But I had a few problems with bugs. Apart from that, the game is really good and fun to play.

    A mixed bag of a remaster with some pop-in, audio issues, and in rare instances game crashing. This is however balanced out by the new lighting, improved controls, cool new features, remixes, and customization. I would recommend this game to people who do not have Sonic Colors. If you own it on the wii, then I would wait for a patch.

    THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST 3d SONIC GAMES. IF YOU LIKE THE ORIGINAL COLORS, YOU LIKE COLORS ULTIMATE! THE NEW GRAFHICS ARE AMAZING, THE JADE WISP ARE COOL AND METAL SONIC RIVAL RUSH HAS A NEW CHALLANGE FOR THE FRANCHISE. THE RATINGS OF THIS GAME HAVE TO BE BETTER!!!

    A shoddy remaster of an otherwise good game. The new bells and whistles can't save poor loading times, audio & visual glitches, and what new material is added adds little substance to the game. If you're looking for a good time, I suggest playing the original on Wii.

    I never played the original Sonic Colors on the Wii, but I always wanted to play it play it because I always heard great things about it. So when I heard they were remastering it for modern consoles and PC, I was quite excited. But as details for the game came out, I then became less excited. I noticed how the graphics in a lot of places were inferior to the original WII version, the soundtrack was also worse and you couldn't toggle it off, and all the new features looked half-baked. Still, even with all these problems I still was gonna buy the game because I wanted to play Colors. But I would have never thought that the game would turn out as it did. Got the game day one and it had a TON of glitches, mainly graphical ones but that's still unacceptable for a 40 dollar game, there were also seizure inducing glitches on the Switch. Even if the game didn't have any of those glitches, it would still be a mediocre remaster because all of the new features are either buggy, or are under baked with no effort put into them. Take the new "Rival Rush" mode with Metal Sonic as an example, there's only 1 race out of the 6 acts in each zone, so the mode only takes about 15 minutes to complete. There's also the new customization system, there are now Park Tokens hidden around each stage that allows you to buy accessories to put on Sonic, which adds a nice bit of replay-ability to the game. But most of the customization's for Sonic are ugly, and I found myself barely changing Sonic's appearance because of it. Overall, the game is still fine because they haven't changed the the main game itself, it's just that all the new half-baked additions and all the bugs really bring this remaster down. I would say that if you haven't played Colors and have no way of playing it, then this is a fine way to play it. But if you have a Wii to play it on, or have a PC that can emulate the original, then avoid this remaster at all costs.… Expand

    This game was fun, beginning to end. The glitches and bugs didn't even appear when I played. The wisps and customizations were so well done that it's shocking to realize how well this feature could be implemented. Best Sonic game ever made!

    Perfectly mediocre port of a good game ruined with a crappy launch state, weird new lighting and visual overhaul, and very long load times. Sonic Colors deserved better.

    Sonic Colors Ultimate is a okay game. I think too, the patches, fixed the game but it could be better at some points. I also really love The Original (Wii Version). I hope if they make one day a Sonic Unleashed Remaster it should be the same game but in 4K and 60fps and extra content. But yeah Sonic Colors Ultimate is a great game

    After all the patches it play wonderful on my xbox series s this is one of my favorite sonic game I couldn't play since it was exclusive to the wii now it on every new platform I really recommend this game

At the time of the original release, the first crossover between Mario and Sonic happened so Sega felt the need to make what fans desired for so long: a normal 3D Sonic that doesnt play around with an intense story or rpg elements. Sonic Colors nailed that. Since it was a Nintendo-exclusive, more people got to enjoy this game with Sonic Colors Ultimate!

    This game didnt really introduce anything new, just a remaster with some options for customization, oh yeah and a ton of bugs that make the whole game bad
    E.G:
    Terminal Velocity Act 1:
    An auto-run level where you just gotta dodge lasers. Seems pretty easy right? Problem is that you cant see the lasers. They just pop up behind you. dont know who missed this but this makes the stage literally luck based.

    They also sold this game as full hd to 4k but the cutscenes just look terrible. The writing is also really unfunny.    … Expand

    Sonic Colors Ultimate is definitely conjuring up memories of the 3D Sonic era in its execution. This game was considered a hidden gem back in the day, but really is just one of the better 3D Sonic games. It still doesn’t come close to matching the excitement of the classic style or even the more recent Sonic Mania. Sonic just works best in 2D and while Colors does some interesting things with its game play, it still only serves as the best of a worse situation.

    Luckily, the original Sonic Colours stands tall, featuring fun, exploratory gameplay and it is rewarding replaying levels to attain higher ranks. The 3D sections are far and few between, but the ones that are there are fun. The 2D gameplay is vastly improved from Sonic Generations with tighter controls and added variety in the form of Wisp abilities. Ultimate adds a lick of new paint to bring this to the Xbox platform, of which it is recommended to play on either Xbox Series X|S to get the standard performance that players have come to expect. Rival Rush is a fun mode, but there are only six acts and some of these levels are incredibly short. The other additions that Ultimate has added are superfluous, but don't do anything to really damage the core game either. If Sonic Colours doesn't exist in your library and you are a fan of the Blue Blur then there is no excuse to not pick this up.

    Sonic Colours Ultimate isn't too convincing as a remaster, but it's still one of the best Sonic games of the last two decades. It doesn't fix the shortcomings of the first game and it also introduces some bugs and balancing issues, but it remains fun and spectacular; it' recommended especially to those who have never played the original.
