Well to begin, I would say this; the game itself isn't that bad, but at the same time the game isn't that good. Meaning the game has good potential to be fun, but its plagued by a whole plethora of issues which I'll break down in a matter of moments.

Well to begin, I would say this; the game itself isn't that bad, but at the same time the game isn't that good. Meaning the game has good potential to be fun, but its plagued by a whole plethora of issues which I'll break down in a matter of moments.

Smite: Battleground of the Gods is a free-to-play, third-person MOBA, which is an acronym for multiplayer online battle arena. The basis of the game is that you play as Gods from various cultures that clash in an arena vying for glory, honor, and worship.

For game-play, the game breaks it down like this; You, and a team of 2 or more additional players trying to destroy the other team's Titan, or lower the other team's score, depending on the game mode. To do so, you need minions, which are A.I.(Artificial Intelligence), to sacrifice themselves to take down the Titan. On the way to the other team's Titan, are towers. Towers are stationary turrets that, when attacked by minions and enemy players, will shoot until destroyed. When all towers are destroyed, there will an enemy pheonix , which function similar to the towers, but will re=spawn a short moment later, which means you need to escort minions to the Titan to win the game.

As mentioned before, Smite uses Gods of various mythologies, like Zeus, Odin, and Anubis to name a few. Some people have said that might be a little unoriginal considering that they took mythological figures, instead of coming up with their own original characters. But at the same time, have most people considered that a famous comic book company called Marvel did the same thing with Thor and Odin, and made their own spin on it? I don't think so.

For most intents and purposes, I just described the base game, but how does it fell to play? Honestly, it feels great to move and utilize character abilities, but getting up and close personal is a bit messy. Damaging enemy players and minions is a hassle, for a number of reasons. which I'll break down in a moment.

Here's what you've been waiting for right? All the negative stuff correct? Yep, this is what makes the game horrible to play and experience. Which I'll put into a list and that's why it deserves the score of 5.
1.As I mentioned before, melee and ranged combat is a bit unsatisfactory, meaning to damage enemy players, you need a lock-on, which means, for melee you have be literally hugging the enemy player, or for ranged, you have looking at them dead-on for you to hit. Which also means, you're going to relay on your abilities more so than your standard attack.
    2. Game modes are maps, which they're only five maps/game modes. There is a MOTD, which I think translates to Match or Mode of the Day, and usually offers up something different using one of the five maps. But unfortunately, that means that these are the only maps/modes in the game, and that can get stale pretty quick. Hopefully in the future, maybe there will be like a Capture the Flag or King of the Hill type mode, but for right now that's it.
    3. A large amount of characters, like Xbalanque and Fenrir, have abilities that distort your vision, put a DOT on you (which stands for Damage Over Time), and generally incur huge damage, ruin and destroy any chance of having a fair and fun experience.
    4. As I said before, minions have a large impact on the game, but at the same time, the whole game shouldn't revolve around them. Getting kills in the Arena type game mode rewards you five points, but minions rewards your team with one point. Minions come in groups of six, so instead of getting kills, teams will often brute force minions into your goal, and soar ahead in the match.
    5. As a follow-up in points 3 and 4, matches will usually snowball. Meaning that the other team will get ahead with a gigantic lead, and your team can never catch up.
    6. And this is the final negative point. The community are possibly the worst people to deal with on a daily basis. I mean, I'd rather get tea bagged in Halo, or yelled at by some kid in Call of Duty, but the fact of the matter is, the community isn't skill-wise terrible, but demeanor terrible. What I mean is, that the real enemy isn't the other team, it's your team-mates! If you screw-up, even just once, they won't resist the chance to sand bag you. Not just with a microphone, but with chat commands as well! What's even worse is, even if you avoid somebody in the game, the matchmaking, which now that I think about it should be point 7, but the matchmaking is so bad, you'll get paired with the same jerks that you just assaulted by.

Smite: Battleground of the Gods has great potential to be a good game, but unfortunately is marred by a ton of issues.

If there ever was a perfect MOBA ambassador for consoles then it was always going to be Smite. [Issue#166, p.88]

There’s a lot of learning involved to make the most of Smite – and not enough done to introduce the more complicated elements – but as a competitive multiplayer game this is a game you really ought to try.
