  • Summary: A killer puzzle game where you control Skullface, a psychotic slasher hell-bent on revenge. Slide this adorably demented character around hundreds of isometric puzzle levels to squash, flay, and decapitate hapless victims in this darkly comic homage to 80’s horror movies.

I'm far from a puzzle enthusiast, but I loved my time with Slayaway Camp: Butcher's Cut. The puzzles are short and addictive, and the ridiculous slasher movie setting really lifted the mood on what can often be a fairly somber game genre. Difficult enough for puzzle fans but equally accessible to everyone else and likely a real eye-opener for those unfamiliar with this type of game. With heaps of content and genuinely fun gameplay, I can't think of anyone who shouldn't pick this up.

If you’re looking for something that combines puzzles and slasher films, then this is just about a decent holdover until something better comes along.

It can get really complex to brutally kill all the persons on the beautifully designed chessboard levels. And the nostalgic splatter horror movie style is special. Even puzzle haters will have their fun playing this title! Expand

I did not expect much from this but it's actually really good. It's simple to get into and it's very enjoyable. The whole game parodies horror films and the cutscenes do a great job of capturing the feel of a typical b-movie horror film. There's lot of characters to unlock which does require a significant amount of playtime to have enough coins to get them all and thus will get repetitive over time, but it is still a really fun game to play and one that totally caught me by surprise. Good stuff. Expand

There is a few niggling problems here and there, but overall I ended up enjoying Slayaway Camp: Butcher’s Cut way more than I hated it. The main reason why I enjoyed this game is because of the excellent level design. The level design is very creative and has a huge amount of variety which in turn keeps things fresh and interesting throughout. There is also a huge amount of unlockables for you to get to grips with and these do give the game some replayability which is badly needed because once you complete the game unfortunately there is nothing much that will bring you back. It is however very fun while it lasts and that’s because of the amount of variety the game has, and that’s especially the case when it comes to the characters you can play. There are an abundance of killers to choose from and each one has had a lot of work put into them and I appreciate the effort greatly. The humour the characters bring in the game however failed to hit the spot for me. I did find it funny briefly, but in the end it just got too repetetive and too cheesy for its own good. The presentation side of the game fits the game’s style perfectly. Visually the blocky art has lots of nice little details and they’ve captured the gore really well, and when you combine this with the sound design then it makes the gameplay even more enjoyable. At the end of the day Slayaway Camp: Butcher’s Cut is one of them games that’s perfect for passing a couple of hours every now and then. It does a great job of never outstaying its welcome, and most important of all it can be pretty fun at times. It does have a few problems and this does stop it from getting an higher score but it doesn’t stop it from getting a recommendation from me. Expand
