After playing this game for a couple hours, I had to check the calendar to make sure that it was not, in fact, April 1st. I honestly cannot believe that a Video Golf franchise this old could release a game so lacking in features. Also, to say that this game is "lacking features" is a complete understatement. I honestly cannot believe that a Video Golf franchise this old could release a game so lacking in features. Also, to say that this game is "lacking features" is a complete understatement. There are NO FEATURES. I will explain:

    1. Horrible character creator. It's absurdly simplistic and there is no way of making a character look like 2. you. It's a total insult to the last few PGA Tour games.

    2. Game modes: Stroke or Match (i miss skins play, it's my favorite mode. and best ball/scramble is the style you're most likely to play in real life tournies, if you are a golfer)

    3. Cannot remove the fan gallery. Would you like to have a quiet and friendly round of golf with a friend? Hoping to enjoy nature and relax on the golf course? DENIED- You are surrounded by hundreds and hundreds of cheap looking gallery fans, who will NOT react when hit with the ball. Even if you 9.5 degree drive the ball into their face. It will bounce off them and they will cheer.

    4. No EXP/Money for playing offline with friends. The only way to progress your character is through Single Player Pro play. It's become evident that EA does not want you to play this game in the same room with your friends. You are required to own your own xbox, xbox live subscription and internet. Are my friends and I the only people who still get together on the couch and play video games on the same TV?

    5. Sluggish menus. I shouldn't have to list the specs of the XBOX ONE, but they should be enough to handle MENU BROWSING. Not in this game though.

    6. The animations. It seems like the developers of this game have never actually watched golf. Hit a routine drive 300 yards on the fairway- nothing special: your golfer jumps and cheers like he just hit a hole-in-one. every time. Make a decent birdie- he's flipping out like he just won the Masters. Make a bad shot and he's practically freaking out and smashing his clubs. You would -never- see professional golfers, or even semi-professional, or even total amateur golfers acting like these characters do. Where is the class and quiet dignity of golfers? They will overact on EVERY-HIT. oh, and you cannot turn these animations off. They have even removed the "quick play" feature to auto-skip these ridiculous cutscenes.

    7. No replay feature. ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
I'd like to replay some of my previous shots without recording it to the dang xbox.

In closing, EA has created a decent looking golf game, with average controls and physics. However it seems like they have never watched the PGA Tour, or played previous PGA Tour games. And they definitely did not have beta testers. This game is absolutely featureless. It's as bare-bones as a sports game has ever been. I don't even care about the lack of courses, the lack of golfers (no LPGA???), lack of former clubhouse and online features. Why is this game so dang simple when there are mobile golf games with more depth.

    Total disappointment.

Shame on you EA Sports for duping your fan base AGAIN! This game is worst than any of the last 3 Tiger games in terms of features and functionality. I was so excited for it, and now I just wish I could get a refund.

The game feels like a 40% complete beta. It only includes a paltry 8 real courses on release, the swing mechanic feels like you're on a twitchy cocaine fueled bender, the green swing meter/indicator takes all difficulty out of the swing tempo/timing, putting couldn't feel less realistic if they tried, & the ball physics are not based in reality. For some odd reason I am able to stick a 3W from 250 yards and have it land with less than 5 yards of roll out, yet a pitching wedge from 120 rolls out 10+ yards. The ground itself feels overly "squishy", absorbing the ball like a tampon. Balls do not kick left/right as you'd expect where appropriate & there's absolutely no need for any strategic thinking at all when aiming tee shots or approach shots. My 6 year old could pick up the controller and shoot par on Sawgrass on TOUR difficulty setting with 5 practice rounds.

Graphically this game does not appear to be "next-gen" quality, the resolution is certainly NOT 1080p, more likely 720 IMO. A overdone blurring effect seems to have been applied & it it makes the game look subpar. With only 8 courses and a barebones career mode the only thing I was looking forward too was superior graphics, and EA failed to deliver in a miserable fashion.

I've already encountered a humorous bug on Bay Hill near the 6th hole where cars were parked on an adjacent fairway, Jiminez doesn't putt left hand low, glove is removed when putting but it doesn't appear in the back pocket (perhaps the caddie is holding it?) and the constant mention of Tom Weiskopf by the announcers. Also the post shot golfer reactions are completely overdone and unrealistic (landing a ball in the light rough off the tee on #2 should not produce a reaction akin to blowing a 3 shot lead with 2 to play at Augusta.

There are so many problems with this game it's laughable, EA should be ashamed of themselves for releasing such a poor quality effort, and considering we're now 2 years into the current gen consoles this goes down as one of the worst games EA has ever made. Anyone looking for a proper representation of the game of golf should look elsewhere.

I can't describe how disappointing it was to know I was stuck with this abortion of product once I started to play it. Visually it's ok, except for the terrible character creation. I cannot for the life of me understand what's wrong with the putting system. I've watched my putts roll slowly right over the middle of the cup on too many occasions.
Maybe with some patches (free DLC, or forget it, I can't believe I paid EA $65 for THIS) it can mature into something worth spending time with, like what Turn 10 did with Forza Motorsport 5; but barring that I'm just going to have to admit I made an expensive mistake.

Don't make the mistake I did. Avoid this game. The critics giving this 60-80% are lying to you, and saying this game has even 1/2 the features of previous editions is far too kind.

I don't know what else to say, it's rare that I am this disappointed in even most EA products I've owned.

I guess just read QUITTERMAKER'S review, because I don't have the heart to go on.

P.S. - I also created an account here just to warn people to STAY AWAY, unless (free) patches bring the game up to a more sophisticated level. I just feel, pardon the pun, shafted. Hard.

Gameplay on the course is pretty bad as well. Employing any spin causes such an exaggerated ball reaction its entirely unusable (ie. forward spin of any amount will almost always cause a well hit ball to go flying off the green). I've had so many chip shots get stuck on the flag post for no reason (the flag post should be getting removed) and the crowds in the game or terrible (I hit a ball into one and they don't even react).

I can't recommend this game to even the most hardcore golf fan. Just go back and play The Masters...You seriously want to stay as far away from this game as possible. I really wish I could get a refund.

Nearly everything developed in the last-gen cycle has been stripped back for a less complete game. While the developer's have promised 'free' content in the future (nothing is free), the game is currently only worth $30 - hence the Mario Gold value.

I don't feel much better knowing about the 'free' content in the future, instead I feel deceived. This is clearly an incomplete game by design, not by time constraint. It's just like NHL 15, it's the same EA formula: when moving to next-gen, strip a game down from what is was, and then build it back up for marketing effect. I should have known better to pre-order.

Hopefully this review prevents someone from buying this game until and unless it approaches a $60 value.

Sometimes your estimated ball line is no where to be seen and the graphics go fuzzy as if out of focus. It is a total mess. I would rate it lower, but i do enjoy golf and the physics and the fact you can play an entire 18 holes in about 12 minutes. u dont even play the entire course during a tournament u play like 5 holes and the rest

I actually feel like the swing mechanics are decent but there's nothing else to be excited about. The battleship course was a forgettable pitch n putt.

EA Sports did this with NHL 15... forgot to include the rest of the game on release. They are consistently offering less and less in their yearly releases. They are killing these sports franchises at the expense of a few extra casual gamers picking up a copy. They've forgotten about how good solid gameplay with a reasonable amount of features was the reason many of us got into these games in the first place.

I'm glad that I sampled this on EA access and avoided spending the money. Fifa is the only EA Sports title I haven't completely lost faith in.

I wouldn't buy this game for 15 dollars.

But it's stupid easy. There are ways to make it harder, but starting out, you're going to win every tournament against the best players in the game as a 65 overall rating rookie. The changes to putting are good, though. It's frustrating at first, but it's probably the best applications of putting in one of these games.
First issue is the commentators, both of whom pale in comparison to Jim Nance. They're annoying, and half the time, their commentary doesn't fit what's happening (for example, if I miss a putt, one of the guys will say "Oh, I thought he had that!" Two seconds later, the same guy would say "Had the touch of a plumber right there.")
The problem with the game is the distinct lack of content. There are fewer courses, fewer events in career mode, a fractions of the playable golfers, NO MASTERS TOURNAMENTS (I don't care if their licensing agreement ended, get a new one. Not having the best major in the world is unacceptable, especially considering the 2012 version of the game was centered around the bloody tournament). This game is Madden for golf. It's deprived of variety and fun compared to older titles (seriously, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 on original Xbox has more to offer that this game), and I have no doubt in my mind that they plan on selling us old features as future DLC.

I'm very disappointed with the multiplayer as well. It basically is you playing while your opponents ball flies around. You could be putting and your opponents approach shot land right at your feet...

The content is also very limited. When creating a player, you can only change a few features about the person and select from a few different outfits...but you can't do that until you get better, but getting better requires you to miss the cut 50 times in a row before you get your stats up. There are very few licensed courses, very few golfers (one female golfer and she isn’t even real) and the customisable options in career mode are so few and far between you will be lucky if you can get your golfer to look anything like you at all. Game play wise there’s nothing new in this latest edition of PGA tour, but there are a few things missing such as the ability to preview your putt. For a game that has been in development for so long it just feels rushed. For example the title screen flies around the start of a golf course and on that golf course live foxes. For some reason these foxes just pop up form no where every now and again. Don’t get me wrong these are really well designed foxes, as are the bears antelopes and alligators. I just wish they had spent more time making the game fun and full of features rather than spending all the time making a bear on a green look pretty. The commentary on this edition doesn’t seem to be of the same standard as previous versions of the game with the commentators often groaning at a poor shot only for it to land inches from the whole, in fact there is no commentary at all when playing the game head to head on line. The one thing a I did like about the new game is the Battlefield 4 course, which was actually pretty fun to play, hopefully there will be more of these types of courses to come like PvZ and Mass Effect but who Knows and I’m not sure how the hardcore golf fans will feel about this. Overall after waiting 2 years for a next gen golf game I have to say I’m thoroughly disappointed in the game. Had EA priced the game at £15-£20 then I would say it is probably value for money but at £55 its too much for too little. Shame on you EA Tiburon, Shame on you!! Expand

I don't mean to be harsh but this gives the golf club game a run for its money with shoddy graphics and the putting is atrocious, the animations are completely wrong and well....the game sucks balls....on the up side I'll get good value for a trade in

Feels like I have shelled out £50 for what is an expansive demo. I think in total there are only 10 playable golfers and not many more courses. The actual gameplay is improved and provides a smooth and realistic simulation but I cant even put facial hair on my created character. Talk about basic features and functionality.

Let's start with the few good things EA did...They improved on your "shot arc" and putting lines. Perhaps to a point to where it may be a little too easy. BUT the good news is that you can really customize the options to take out the shot arc, putting line, power boost, ball spin, etc. So if you desire more of a challenge, you can tailor the core gameplay to your liking. As far as graphics, I suppose it looks fine but it's certainly not an upgrade from the previous gen titles.
Now the not so good things EA did...It really seems they stripped a lot of content compared to the previous "Tiger" games as many others have stated already. I do miss my Bingo, Bango, Bongo, Skins, Tiger Challenges(there are a few challenges but no where near as memorable or as many), etc. They do have a Battlefield 4 play mode in which you golf the BF4 maps...it's not really my cup of tea but it exists. When the game cuts between scenes, it seems to have a Jankyness that can get annoying (weird pauses as you change from the panning the coarse to moving to your player). Also the hole panning as you load the next hole, the camera will pan close to the ground and suddenly you'll just have a bush appear right in front of your camera which isn't a big deal but it just shows how little attention to detail they paid.
Overall I certainly CAN NOT recommend this game. I think it's a huge set back to the EA golf series. If you have an XBone I would recommend picking up Tiger Woods Golf 14' for the 360 and using the backwards compatibility feature that is coming soon.

    1. Career mode (the most gutted, lifeless feature of the game in comparison to other releases). It's like they got half way into developing it and gave up and thought we'll put that in and hope that keeps people happy. It's totally empty/devoid of any features that make it interesting.
    2. Commentary. Horrible, repetitive, utterly pointless drivel. My wife got so annoyed with the same pointless rubbish she made me turn it down, off. All they do is bag you or say you are the protege, champion of the world or the next Rory. How about just saying what the player basically has done. No need for the same stupid phrases about plumbers or whatever. Seriously how hard is it. Short sentence, nice shot, that's going to be difficult to get up and down. It's obvious the developers have never played the game in their life.
    3. Player reaction. This is just unbelievable, they act like they've won the masters or throw their clubs or constantly look like they are going to kill people. I've never seen a golfer behave remotely like that on tour... or even in club, social golf. Again leading me to suggest they don't ever watch/play golf themselves. If it was only turned on in arcade I'd understand. But the whole game is full of it, literally every shot is a drama queen moment.
    4. Caddie, general actions walking down the fairway. I'll waste hours of my life watching the same silly hand movements talking to the caddie.... why? I have no idea. Is this meant to be innovation? I hope you didn't spend more than 2 hours developer time on that.
    5. Player creation. The player faces look like they've been smashed with a brick, the darker skin tones on the players are actually outright offensive. Again another feature that got a very bare minimum. No game face or anything useful to make it possible to make a player that looks remotely normal.
    6. Actual gameplay, well not much to report on that, the tempo or 3 click has no feel at all. Putting is very hit and miss, you either putt well or you hit it feet past or even sideways. Why on earth they even have a swing, accuracy meter for a putter is a mystery. Seriously how many pros on tour put like that from 3 feet. The shot types are half baked, you can't get good flight or feel at all when you are playing well.
    7. Graphics, the only feature that gave this game any points at all, they have improved it but even so the gameplay seems to have suffered from putting pointless animated animals on the course. I think I even saw a bear on one course! To be honest, for the time it took to put in this new engine at the cost of other features, the producers have obviously banked the game on kiddies liking the animals.
    8. Tour play, hardcore golf gamer. There is not a single feature of anything in this game that remotely has the feel of make it a serious effort to be the tour, game that a hardcore serious golfer would want to play.
    9. Courses, who on earth releases a game with so few courses, and they even wasted time putting in some pointless battlefield course or something ( no idea I wouldn't play it ). Supposed DLC will help with this... time will tell but it will either be many many months after release or pay for play.

If I could I'd return this and ask for money back and ask for billable hours playing this total rubbish. Congrats on making the worst golf game in history.

The game is enjoyable, but has quite a few problems.

Gameplay: I think this is where it shines, it's pretty easy to just pick it up and play, plenty of options for play styles.

Other gripes: While I would never buy this game for online capability I played with a friend a few times. Online was super weird and glitchy. There was a neat "play at the same time as your opponent" feature, with what looked like some cool features like "see your opponent if he's not in your way" and "view the course if your opponent isn't done with the hold yet", however these features worked about 10% of the time, other times my opponent would be flickering in and out of existence, and the waiting camera angles are terrible, can't see anything. I would much rather have just watched my opponent's screen so I could tell what was happening at all, rather than watch some shrubbery also flicker in and out of existence from a mile away.

TLDR: I think the game had/has potential if you're just looking for some arcade golf fun, but the whole feel of the game is somewhere between rushed and beta. Good ideas poorly done.

Yes, features are missing. But a solid gameplay experience is there, especially if you are a traditional fan of 3-click golf. And you can mix 3-click with "in air spin" if you want. Awesome!

This engine has been used in making games like Mass Effect and Battlefield, but it is the first time it has been used in making a sports title. (1) The courses selected and/or created by EA are excellent. I LOVE that you get to play Chambers Bay for the US Open, St Andrew for The Open, and Whistling Straits for the PGA, just like the 2015 season. The lack of The Masters is a HUGE letdown though.
    (2) The game was made more challenging than in previous years. For example, the Quick Rounds feature makes sure your Birdies or Eagles on every hole make for an exciting tournament--as the other players will all play 18 holes, you can't zoom over-top your shot, which is something you couldn't do in real life, there is not a power boost other that the joystick being moved by the user, you cannot control the spin while in the air, among other things.
    (3) The graphics meet the console standard

    Here are the cons:
    (1) Hitting out of bunkers or deep impressions is nearly impossible because of the height and rate at which the ball reaches it's apex on a flop or chip shot. This is adjustable but there are simply shots that cannot be hit. Also, there is a cosmetic detail with attempting this--the golfer simply looks ridiculous and makes a stance a pro or moderately decent amateur would never make.
    (2) The lack of golf courses is depressing. I've always dreamed of a golf game where one can play an entire season and play a different golf course every week--just like the tour pros do. The 14 edition allowed users roughly 20 courses plus the option to purchase courses for the store. EA NEEDS TO DO WHATEVER THEY NEED TO DO TO ALLOW PURCHASERS TO BUY COURSES FOR THIS GAME!!!! So far, I have noticed on the game's bulletin that TPC Scottsdale will become available at a later date.
    (3) The commentary is on point to what is actually happening about 75% of the time, which makes having the volume on extremely annoying. The commentators are excellent in real-life golf events, and it makes me feel like EA got lazy with the sound bites. However, I do have to give them credit because they give excellent course expertise, and if anyone knows who Frank Nobilo is, he has competed on most of the game's courses in real-life, which is actually a neat feature.
    (4) To whoever said double-bogey is the max score...double PAR is the max score. On a par 3 you max at 6, par 4 you max at 8, and par 5 you max at 10. That was at least the impression I got because I got a 6 on the downhill par 3 at the new Grand Canyon course--now I get a 2 every time after figuring out what club to hit.
    (5) You cannot max your specific skills do to good performance--you merely select a blanket attribute that is imperfect.

All in all, these are possibly glitches updates could fix for this game. I sunk about $64.00 into this game after tax, so I'd hate to wait for a new edition. It's the only game I play so I'd like it fixed ASAP.

If you can be bothered to move the view 360 degrees to a darker area of the course you sometimes you can make it out.
This makes the game unplayable in my opinion

unfortunately wasted £10 on this game in a Xbox sale. No challenge, no great range of courses, mechanics of golf swing and camera's wooful.

I'll stick to The Golf Club range of games.

This is a huge stepdown from the Tiger Woods PGA Tour games. The career is much weaker, the player creation options are dreadful and the whole game just feels very limited for what's supposed to be a PGA title. I'm just glad I got my game for much cheaper than it was originally because this was a huge waste of money. The tight mechanics and gameplay cannot be overlooked and EA certainly has made good on that ground. Is it as enjoyable as the previous titles? No. It lacks the depth which its predecessors possessed and as a result, you’re left with little will to return. Regardless, this is the first half-decent golfing game on the current gen consoles, and aside from the gimmicky Night Club Challenges and inclusion of Star Wars Battlefront-themed courses, Rory McIlroy PGA Tour offers a level of realism that you’re unlikely to find anywhere else right now.

This should have been a glorious comeback for EA's golf series, but it is a let-down. Especially because it takes everything away that made the last games with Tiger Woods so much fun.
