Unfortunately, I never got the chance to get to grips with the original Romancing SaGa 3 and I think that was down to two things. One of the things was that back in the 90s I wasn’t a huge fan of RPGs and instead I tended to play more shooting games because that’s what I fancied more back then. Another thing is that I didn’t have the vast amount of information that’s available to me like there is today so it pretty much went under the radar. Thankfully in this day and age though there are remasters coming out almost every month so if you did indeed miss the chance to play a particular game you can always try out the new and in some ways pristine edition of the classic games of yesteryear. I’m glad I didn’t miss it this time around as well because as far as RPGs go Romancing SaGa is definitely in the top tier when it comes to this particular genre and I only wish I played when it originally came out all those years ago. As mentioned then Romancing SaGa is for me up there with the very best in terms of RPGs so what makes that be the case? That’s quite a simple answer because in my opinion a decent RPG has to be interesting and to say that Romancing SaGa 3 is interesting would be quite the understatement because from the world to the characters and everything in between it always seemed to kept me invested throughout. You also have the added bonus of quite a lot of content to get to grips with as well so getting bored of this game happens very rarely if at all. If you’re introduced to something that stands out almost immediately thanks to the presentation that’s on offer. Without a doubt both the visuals and music that’s present set the scene perfectly and in my opinion they give the gameplay an extra edge to it which of course makes the gameplay even more addictive than it already is. It also makes the story even more addictive as well and that’s pretty impressive considering the story is one of the best I’ve experienced in this particular genre. Literally from start to finish I was eager to see what happens next and I’m sure that will be the same for many fans of these games. Thankfully none of the issues I had with the game were too severe but they are still worth mentioning at least for me. One of the things I disliked then is the fact that I felt that each mechanic wasn’t explained properly which in turn meant that they were more confusing at first than they should’ve been. Another thing that didn’t tick all of the boxes for me was the combat elements. Yes the combat was fun for the most part but I often found it to be not as challenging as I would’ve liked which meant that the immersion levels dwindled a little here. When it comes to the RPG genre you have many games to explore and whilst some of them lack in terms of variety they’re still a worthwhile experience. Thankfully Romancing SaGa 3 doesn’t suffer with that problem which makes this game a must buy. Yes it isn’t the best RPG I’ve ever played before but it’s pretty close because it always seems to draw you in no matter how long you play and for that reason this game needs to be in everyone’s library especially if you like RPGs with a very immersive and interesting setting.
