Finally, Resident Evil is back! Resident Evil 7: Bioshock got this series back from the "punching boulders"-action grave it's been stuck in for so long with a new perspective, great playability and a fantastic setting. This is exactly what the series needed.

Gone are the QTE, corridor shooter and boring action. RE 7 brought back the sense of mystery and dread , exploration and overall feel of the original game. I may being repetitive, but I don't want to spoiler the game, I think every Resident Evil fan deserve to discovery how this game bring back the sensation and awe that Resident Evil brought in 96.

RE 7 is a masterpiece, it bring back the original feel and moves the series further into the survival horror genre. I really looking forward for RE 8.

After all said and done, 7 maybe is the best Resident Evil ever, or a close runner up for the original RE.

If you are a fan, forget the haters, forget the hate and prejudice and give it a try, I assure you it really worth.

An intense experience that slowly loses traction throughout its brief but satisfying story. Some beautiful design and intense encounters populate the game and a number of highlights, such as running through a Saw like puzzle, stand out. Only let down by length, and possibly enemy variety (i counted maybe 6 enemy types)

BRAVO!! as a day one fan this game is what we wanted after 1,2,3 & CV before it drifted away with 4,5 &6 and became a non horror game which were CoD like with no real survival. 7 brought the series back on it's feet!!

the formula is finally once again: low ammo, survival, some riddles (could be more and more difficult) and maybe the best setting ever. THAT is what RE should look like.

And that is coming just from the standard game, you couldn't pay me to play this in VR.

I do disagree with this being a return to form for the series; it's not. Sure item management returns as well as traveling alone within the confines of a home, but that's about it. Instead, what RE7 does is do an about-face on the direction of the series, a paradigm shift from the bombastic journey it once was on towards the path it was on. Is that a good thing? For the interim it is, but I would caution Capcom here. RE4 was also seen in the same light and look where that led.

It's worth the purchase for those that sidestepped both re5 and 6. RE7 is nothing like those titles, it's new, and old at the same time and hopefully digs deeper into what most fans of the series hoped for: the premiere survival horror series.

After a slew of disappointing sequels, this is finally a Resi game to be excited about. Genuinely creepy and occasionally terrifying, this is exactly what i've been waiting for since Resi 4! Graphics are incredible, especially on HDR settings. Sound design and voice acting are great. Puzzles can be pretty fiendish and the story is engrossing. I loved every minute of it.

Pros - Very influenced from early RE titles as well as Sweet Home (the NES game the series was influenced by). Brings back the large residence in Resident Evil as well as a few smaller locations. The cabin by the house could've been used more though since it was fairly unsettling itself.

Goes back to survival horror roots. Ammo is fairly limited until the end of the game as well as healing items.

Graphics are wonderful. Textures are fairly detailed on the unsettling areas of the locations. Wall textures could be better though.

The plot starts off as fairly generic Texas Chainsaw Massacre hillbilly horror but Capcom takes it to another level by adding stalking elements of RE3's Nemesis and RE2's Mr. X.

Controls are fairly tight but the aiming is a little slower than I'd like on default settings.

Cons - Enemy designs are pretty lacking. The Molded feel generic but the boss battles are pretty fun.

Puzzles are lazily done. Other than the Happy Birthday puzzle, no other puzzles feel as intricate or memorable.

One deciding factor is the first person perspective. If for some reason you cannot stand First Person (as some don't due to motion sickness), don't get this. However, if you play First person games, get this. The first person is absolutely needed for Resident Evil now. Fixed camera RE is gone because it was an outdated mechanic that would save on memory usage during the PS1/PS2 days. First person horror is a somewhat standard now because of how successful games like Amnesia, Alien Isolation, and Outlast are and how well they implement it. RE7 has implemented it well.

Also, disregard any posts saying the game has supernatural elements. The game doesn't have any of that. If you can understand how mold works and spreads as well as how insects have hive minds, you'll understand how the story and new virus works.

I don't get the people saying that this isn't a Resident Evil game. It has so much nostalgia of the earlier games (puzzles, multiple keys, item boxes, etc.) They said from the very beginning that 7 is a reboot. That is EXACTLY what it is, while maintaining the traditional idiosyncrasies that make a RE game.

If you go into this game with the goal of having fun, being scared, and reminiscing, instead of LOOKING for faults, you will love every second. As for the scare factor? This is the first RE game that I had to put down and take a break after a few hours due to the creepiness and scares. I mean, c'mon. The first "zombie" encounter on the stairs and the next 20 min that follows? That sh** is just messed up!

There re lots of things in this game reminiscent of classic RE, the puzzles, the save rooms, the exploration, but it comes with the caveat that it feels that it does that to try to appeal to what people want, not because they think it's a good idea.

Note, I'm only docking this game points for those reasons, that bthis game reeks of desperation. They didn't put these features in because they thought they were a good idea. They weren't creating a game based on any desire to create, but what they found in their suggestion box. Therefore, it feels just thrown in while they say, "SEE!? WE'RE LISTENING, PLEASE LIKE US!"

All that said, Capcom, I accept your apology. Just, next time, make a game based on artistic desire to create rather than a workshopped attempt to regain consumer trust. You succeeded in that, now try to make a game based on a creative vision. This game was very good, but also reeked of desperation. Look, I understand your position and you did a great job of coming to your senses. Now is the time for you to take control of your creations in the right direction.

It delivers the same claustrophobic and trapped feelings as the original games did on PS1/GameCube remakes.
Visually the game is perhaps the best I've seen on XBone, at least in terms of the textures and interior lighting and shadows. Every surface has the right level of sheen and gloss. Character models are fantastic and the facial animations are up there with some of the best.
Sound wise, you'd be hard pressed to find a more eerie soundscape. Even walking down an innocuous corridor, the tiniest creek or groan of the structure can cause an elevation in heartrate. The atmosphere is amazing.
As for the story itself, the overall pacing and the rate that real developments are trickled out is almost perfect. Despite any feelings of fear (or even occasional frustration - dying can be a somewhat frequent occurrence) the want of needing to know what happens next spurs you on.
In terms of sheer enjoyment, presentation, technical aspects and the ability to keep me glued to the couch for hours on end - 10 out of 10. Will play again!

Now let me start out by saying that i thoughly enjoyed this game, point being i had some serious fun and while it wasn't scary per say, the tension and threat of a creature lurking ahead was more then enough to engage me for my intial 8 hour playthough. In this review i will address some of the contriversys surronding 7 and what i personally did and did not like about the game.

Now lets start out with the main issue in the game, length. Now where speedruns of the game have shown that it can be beaten in the span of 2 hours give or take, any blind playthrough deviod of any prior knowledge of the game should atleast take any person 6 hours to complete on any normal playthrough and while it would seem that a vocal amount of people attest this length to be unworthy of its full price listing, other games such as dishonered 2 which i managed to speed run in 1 and a half hours recieved tremendous praise for its length. In addition speaking from experience this game was exactly as long as it needed to be, especially as a title in the first person survival horror genre with another game in recent memory, Alien Isolation being too long than it needed to be which ultimately bored me in the end.

The story one item that i enjoyed about the game though not without its faults was through and though enjoyable taking cues more so from the original 1996 classic more so than any of the later titles in the series, featuring a house, a biological superweapon and one poorly prepared protagonist who came with good intentions left to tear it all down. Now where the game does have a satisfying ark where the game does falter however is within a couple of the crucial moments in the game with a bafflingly obvious moral choice and a short cinematic ending that fails to close of some loose ends presumably to be answered in upcoming dlc.

Gameplay is also quite fun and while i did intially assume that stealth would be the main priority of the game i was quite suprised as to how gunplay was the main focus with resource management playing a crucial role in how you progress throughout the game and while on the easier difficulties you will find that you will have a fully stocked arsnel by the end. The harder difficulties up the ante as you scrape for every last shell and run past every enemy to save those resources.

Ultimaely i had fun with Resident Evil VII and while i made connections of my own with the seires, the lack of any famailiar faces or locations makes it harder to resonate with for others. I recomend fully to purchase Resident Evil 7 for any die hard horror gamer or fan of the series.

At the end, the game worries constantly that you run out of ammo and stuff and overwhelms you with herbs, machine gun ammo, hand gun ammo, remote bombs and so on, which makes the game even easier than it is already.
My final verdict is a 7 out of 10, simply because the direction is right, but there still being a lot of things that could have been done better. Maybe next time.

Resident Evil VII: Biohazard First Impressions

As some of you may know I am huge fan of the Resident Evil Series and have been since inception circa 1996. The series has seen its highs, namely RE2, RE3, RE4, and of course the REmaster of the original. And it's certainly seen its fair share of lows including RE6, Operation Raccoon City, and Umbrella Corps. The series best known for survival horror had devolved over time and eventually became a Michael Bay 3rd person COD game with terrible mechanics and an even worse story.

Fast forward to the present. This week REVII launched with High anxiety and low expectations from RE fans across the world. Capcom announced the "reboot" of the series shortly after that failed RE6 release. And until recently much of REVII remained a mystery. Once revealed the reaction from fans was extremely varied and most would say underwhelming and disappointing.

For those who have not yet played the final release, I am happy to report that RE is back, and in a BIG way! Now sure, the core series characters we've come to love may not be present in this latest release. And quite frankly, that's the best part! Our hero's from yesteryear were battle tested and have seen it all. Tyrants, Nemesis, Mr. X, ZOMBIES, lickers, granados, and the list goes on. Our new protagonist is shaken, vulnerable, unsure, and scared to death. Which is a great way to describe my first 4 hours into the game...lol

Man, did I mention that the Baker family is nuts?!?! Set in the Louisiana bayou, the game begins and carries a level of mystery and tension that can be cut with a knife. You are immediately thrust into the fight with little or nothing to go on other than you are searching for your wife that was thought to be missing or dead for the last 3 years. The enviorments are dripping with detail and mystery. And the characters immediately begin to capture your eye and imagination. What happened to this family and how did we end up here?

Weapons are limited and ammo is sparse. Initially the enviorments are tight, and eventually open up. Classic nods to the series including door specific keys, herbs, save rooms, puzzles ( wish there were more ), and strategic boss fights await. The graphics are great and the sounds...well let's just say...the enviorments are the shining star of this sequel. They create a surreal atmosphere ripped straight from the pages of classic horror films while still creating an identity all its own.

While it's not perfect, I must say I am completely infatuated with the game and I am looking forward to uncovering the mysteries of the Baker family plantation. I love the depth and thought put into the characters, and can appreciate the fantastic level design and crafting mechanic. This game is not for everyone. But for those looking for a classic survival horror experience that may leave a seat cushion or two damp...this one's for you.

    In addition:

Not without its faults. While puzzles have returned, they are a bit too easy and predictable. And the same can be said for the new enemies "the molded". A higher level or difficulty and more intricate puzzles would have been welcome. And more varied enemies are needed. However we can look forward to 3 additional pieces of DLC starting to hit as soon as next week. 2 new tapes, and 1 full story add on. I am hopeful Capcom will address some of these issues. With that said, I believe they are most certainly on the right track and dare I say the road to redemption with the RE franchise.

To regain his and his mentor’s honour, he leaves the family to solve the mystery of him being blamed, only to find himself in a power struggle for the land on which the murder occurred.

Goro Majima is officially a cabaret owner, but unofficially a yakuza outcast. Desperate to rejoin his clan, he takes on an assassination job, but his target and the reason for his mission turns out to be more than what he bargained for.

Yakuza 0 is an open-world action-adventure game that takes place in 80s Japan. It’s the prequel to the original Yakuza (Ryū ga Gotoku) released for the PlayStation 2 in 2005. The game controls the character through 3rd person view, and traversing the cities of Tokyo and Osaka is periodically interrupted by incredibly brutal fights with street punks, mobsters and yakuza leaders. Battles are played in real-time, and various fighting-stances, moves, and finishers are gained as you advance the story or play side-missions. The story is told in frequent dialogs and cut scenes and involve a huge cast of characters. When you want to take a break from the main mission, the city offers a massive amount of entertaining side quests and mini-games like dance-dance revolution-style dancing, karaoke, pocket-car racing, bikini mud-fights, and Space Harrier, to name a few.

Yakuza 0 Screenshot of street brawling

Yakuza is a massive series, stretching all the way up to Yakuza 6, just released in Japan, with a remake of Yakuza 1 coming out this summer. All games feature Kamorucho, a realistic recreation of Tokyo’s Kabukicho district, and sometimes other cities. You would think that players would get tired of playing the same city over and over again, but then you’d be wrong, as the main selling point is, in fact, the well-told storyline with multiple intertwining story arcs, the fighting system, and the vast array of mini-games. If you didn’t do all side quests, there’s a “Premium Adventure Mode” to be unlocked after finishing the game. You just can’t get enough of it, even if the game is entirely spoken in Japanese with English subtitles.

If you’re new to the series, Yakuza 0 is a perfect start, hosting the best features of the series so far. The Yakuza 1 remake – Yakuza: Kiwami, will be released soon, and we can only hope the trend continues.

If you’re an old fan, it might at first feel as if it doesn’t offer much more than the massive Yakuza 4 and 5, but admit it – you want more yakuza, and after Zero you’ll be hurting for the remake due this summer.

Don't bother with this game, especially at $60. It's short, has no replay value or other features (except paid DLC of course), and the story and characters are completely forgettable. This may as well have been a reboot because it has no connection at all to the rest of the Resident Evil universe. Waste of time.

officially my favorite horror game of all time
Resident Evil 7 is a first person survival horror game where you play as a character named Ethan who gets a video from his wife who was kidnapped while babysitting
this leads him to an old house out in the swamps of Louisiana
As you explore this house and find its hidden passage ways you learn you’re not alone here…
Tons of missing person cases around this time, but maybe this is just a coincidence
    There’s a crazy family…
And you spend the game dealing with this family and trying to rescue and escape with your wife
This is hands down the most terrifying video game I’ve ever played…
    And I don’t scare easy…
Usually games only get me with cheap jump scares..
I don’t ever expect more than that...
    Again I’m no Pewdiepie…
But here I was genuinely terrified to progress during the first half of the game…
The characters and setting are so eerie…
you feel vulnerable throughout as you search the areas for keys and other items to solve a simple puzzle and move on…
Even during moments of back tracking it never gets easier…
each location feels just as terrifying as before…
    And you’re not even defenseless…
You have a knife... you can pick up guns and other items to craft health packs and better ammo…
but even with all of this you can’t help but feel your life is on the line around every corner…
Where the game starts to fall apart is when they introduce the mud/mold type enemies that come out of the walls…
they’re definitely terrifying at first… but only because they’re new…
But they’re so over used that they quickly become an eye roll rather than a scare…. They eventually pose no threat…
The game would’ve greatly benefitted from sticking to the style of focusing on 1 unique characters per section of the game like the first half instead of throwing in these generic monsters around every corner to deal with…
They broke the experience immersion for me and reminded me this was a video game..
And the games reliance on these enemies is worse as it goes on that by time I was in the final 3 hour stretch of this 7 and a half hour game I was running through them and the rest of the game like it was nothing… thankfully the final 20 minutes or so bring the game back to what it does best…
But these putty creatures plucked from the power rangers are a joke.
They’re a slight hiccup in the overall fantastically horrifying experience that is resident evil 7 though…
The game is so clever with its puzzles, even doing subtle things like putting solutions or important item locations in these vhs tapes where you play as other characters.. these vhs tapes are just as terrifying as the main game, if not more at times…
And you never feel stuck… again I beat the game in 7 and a half hours and I was very thorough…
the game does a great job of bread crumb trailing you to the right items you need..
Resident Evil 7 is also compatible with the PlayStation vr... which im sure makes this game even more terrifying...
unfortunately this does get in the way of the game itself for those of us not using vr as theres this weird directional audio thing going on where you have to look at a character to really hear what they’re saying…
That isn’t how real life works and its annoying.. .
So for better and for worse, this game was definitely developed with vr in mind… it wasn’t an afterthought or an added gimmick…
Resident evil 7 stumbles at times stopping it from being crowned as a true masterpiece…
But I can’t look over the moments that bring it so close to that status…
I can’t look over the fact that im one of the most unphased by horror people I know.. And this game got to me.
This is hands down the best horror games I’ve ever played…

The only downside for me was the lack of content which made me knock a point off, I finished it in around 10h30m. There are 2 endings, collectibles, and an unlockable weapon though, so I will be playing through again. Also free DLC is coming soon so that's something, I just wish it had been ready at launch.

9.8 out of 10. Love how this game feels interactive and intense with the micro-management. Such detail in creepinesss and gore. The story is crazy with twists and turns. And although the choice at the end doesn't feel that important and last boss fight isn't exciting. It harkens back to the first Resident Evil.

This was when I had lost faith in the series and decided to give up. After playing this game, I was overjoyed. The new perspective is great for this series and this is the most true resident evil game since #1 from the creepy farmhouse setting down to the little details like the music that plays in a saferoom that gives you that sense of safety. The first hour is INTENSE and had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. The battles are difficult and extremely satisfying and has you managing your inventory and ammo just like the old games. Puzzles and maps are littered throughout, herbs can be found and combined, and collectables are hidden well. The graphics are stunning and the enemies are truly terrifying (even sometimes hilarious). This is truly a triumph at Capcom and made this LONG LONG time fan extremely happy. Good on ya guys Expand

After Resident Evil 5 & 6, everyone called for a return to the classic survival-horror theme and atmosphere that the original trio were known for. To that effect, they completely succeeded. This game reminded me of the first game in so many ways that I became instantly hooked. The emblem/insignia door pieces, the inventory management, the item boxes, puzzles, narrow and suffocating hallways, and the house in general (Reminiscent of the RE1 Spencer Estate), are some of the several ties that evoke fun and scary memories of the classic games. RE7 did an excellent job of recreating the fear factor that was present in the original game. It might be hard to imagine those originals as "scary", but when I was a younger kid playing those games, it was absolutely terrifying. This scary atmosphere combined with excellent voice acting, some memorable villain moments, and general gameplay mechanics, are this game's strong suits.

This game is not perfect though. The story was especially disappointing for me. The premise for this entire game was great, the Baker family and farm house was great, the unnecessary extension beyond this location, to me, was not. It felt as though they were trying to stretch the game out and I believe it actually hurt the plot overall. The game took me 9-10 hours to complete, and to be honest, I could not wait for it to end in the later chapters. It felt like it was overstaying its welcome at that point. The actual plot itself, is incredibly reminiscent of another video game that I am sure many others can figure out like I did, and that was very disappointing to me.

I know a lot of people will dislike the fact that this game is around 10 hours to complete, but you have to understand that horror games like this cannot be much longer because it is incredibly easy to desensitize your audience in this genre and lose the fear factor. You are meant to take your time, discover secrets, read documents, loot supplies, and immerse yourself in the story. RE fans will appreciate this more than newcomers will, I would think.

Overall, if you're a fan of RE, you will enjoy this game. It is a very good attempt to recapture the survival horror atmosphere the original games possessed, but the disappointing (copied?) storyline, and unnecessary extensions, were a major downside for me. 7.5/10

Featuring a first-person perspective, it blends many elements of the original RE with gameplay from "Outlast" and "Bioshock". Cinematically, the game borrows most notably from "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", but "The Blair Witch Project" and "Saw" are also obvious inspirations. The developer's decision to break away from the main RE mythology and tell a stand alone tale is a good one. The zombies, evil corporations and genetically engineered monsters that have defined the RE universe have been replaced with a Southern Gothic scenario right out of "American Horror Story".

The game begins a lot like "Silent Hill 2" with main character Ethan receiving a message from his missing wife that leads him to a Louisiana plantation. Once he arrives there, he meets a psychotic hillbilly family that possesses evil supernatural powers. However, as Ethan discovers, nothing is what it seems. Structurally, RE 7 recalls the original "Resident Evil" with a house filled with locked doors and puzzles. The storage box and weapons from RE 1 also make a return. But the influence of recent horror titles like "F.E.A.R." and "Alien: Isolation" are also apparent in the form of jump scare moments and hiding sections.

At 10 hours long, "Resident Evil 7" isn't a lengthy experience, but it is a very absorbing one. While not quite a masterpiece, this is still one of the best entries in the 20-year old franchise. By combining the original concept of survival horror with today's modern style of first-person horror, it revamps the series once again in a new and exciting way. I'd rate it with an 8.5 out of 10.

The story was kind of meh. The characters were interesting, but it's so loosely connected to the RE universe that it didn't really pull me in very far.

I HATED the controls. You just can't move that fast. It's obvious that they made this game around VR, and that that seemed to be the most important aspect. What's supposed to be running feels like a brisk walk, which in a couple areas provides a real (and not fun) challenge. It was highly frustrating.

I've played through RE games multiple times; this one I could only play through once, and I'm not sure I'll actually replay it.

Firstly and most importantly, the tension and horror element that was lost in the previous few installments of the series is well and truly back; this is a truly DARK game - not only in terms of the story, but also in the visuals! There are numerous dark or poorly lit play areas, and this as well as being set in first person perspective means that you get to feel well and truly immersed and constantly on edge. The graphics are excellent and all add to the atmospherics.
In terms of sound, it's more reminiscent of the original RE game than any of the others: Not that much in the way of music, but full of sound effects that will freak you out, such as the creaking floor boards and walls of the old house, and distant screams coming from unidentified creatures that never seem too far away.
The storyline of the game is also interesting, in that it doesn't seem to directly link in with any of the previous games in the series. It's also easy to follow and chilling enough.
HOWEVER, if you're expecting a huge amount of challenge or variety from the game, you may well be disappointed. Most of your enemies are fairly basic, and vary little throughout the game. Boss battles are not particularly original, but are more interesting, and generally quite enjoyable to play through.
There are some major problems with the overall challenge of the game though. Firstly, it's too short. Nine or ten hours of gaming time is too short (full stop) for an Xbox One game. Secondly, the game ends on a bit of a whimper, both in terms of the final boss (far, far too easy) and in terms of perhaps being a bit too simplistic.
Finally, although present, the puzzle element of the game could have been expanded upon and ramped up a notch or two, in terms of challenge.
So to sum it all up, RE7 is a return to form in terms of atmospherics and ''survival horror,'' but it comes at a cost: Minimal challenge and a slight feeling that something has been left out. But overall, a decent shot in the arm for the series.

It appears most reviewers are grading Resident Evil 7 on a curve due to general lack of horror games, and the much improved but still flawed new direction Capcom decided to pursue.

Let me get the biggest strength out of the way first. The beginning and middle of the game have a phenomenal atmosphere. A dimly lit and filthy house where dozens have disappeared. Shutters smack up against windows, and floors creak causing you to question if something ominous is stalking you at every step. Creepy photos and dusty broken objects line the narrow halls. The **early** game atmosphere is in a league of its own, and creates great tension.

Unfortunately, the game can't keep pace. By the end of the game, it's an almost exclusively grey color palate with no effort put into the sound or level design. Numerous enemies thrown are thrown at you simultaneously highlighting the below average shooting mechanics. The guns don't kick or hit particularly hard leading most of the firearms to feel underwhelming especially since most of the enemies and especially the bosses are bullet sponges. I never ever felt in a pinch for healing items or ammunition due to how often they're supplied, and the auto save system is very forgiving leading me to not ever fear dying.

Lastly, I want to mention the game's horror. It's a mixed bag. As I've previously mentioned, the atmosphere in the early game is great, but occasionally the game relies on hyperviolent, gross out, or body horror in an attempt to create tension with the occasional chase sequence and rare jump scare. Hyperviolent and gross out horror never ever work for me, but to each there own. The chase/stalking sequences are also a miss, because the stealth and hiding mechanics are below industry standards.

So while I really wanted to like this game due to great early game atmosphere, a lot of the aspects when evaluated individually are below average (combat, stealth, **late** game level design). I would recommend renting NOT buying.

Things went dramatically downhill around RE5 and RE6, and the boys in Japan realized a change was needed.

RE7 Biohazard has given us a brand new first person perspective, a throw back to the old days when atmosphere was king and a very tense gameplay. By and large they have succeeded and the game was a blast to play with a protagonist called Ethan Winters.

    Pros-
Best atmosphere and game world ever!
Brilliant surround-sound audio through the headphones
Fantastic game engine- with epic shadow and lighting
Baker house had awesome level of detail
    Open door animation
Limited ammo at start made for tense gameplay
Crazy storyline for the most part

    Cons-
    Very linear game
Enemies lacked variety and had basic design
Lip-sync bug whenever I played cassette tapes
Final boss battle was a let-down
Who was that person impersonating Chris?
Little reason to replay the game

Game content- 10 out of ten
Fun Factor- 8 out of ten

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First off this is a resident evil game in name alone, in no way shape or form is this crap "a return to resident evil's roots" like Capcom promised. And second watching the first hour of gameplay tells you everything you need to know about this substandard money grab. The plot begins with you getting a video from your wife who has been missing for 3 years, naturally you go to find her, even though she never even told you where she was. Eventually on the way to the house in which the game takes place you find your wife's purse and ID in a burn pile and your character has absolutely no reaction to it.

A little while later while slowly creeping through a flooded basement a rotting corpse rises out of the water RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU and your guy just goes "ugh!" That's it. A **** maggot filled corpse pops up in front of you and the guy you're controlling basically says "ew" then keeps moving forward. Shortly after that you find your wife and it quickly become apparent that she is definitely not your wife anymore after the 5 ft 2 120 pound bean pole of a woman throws you through a **** wall with one hand. Her face also looks EXACTLY like the girl from the exorcist movies in the scenes where the demon is showing itself and she also acts like she's possessed/bipolar, you have to fight her off AFTER she repeatedly stabs your ass, at one point shoving a god damn MACHETE through your hand. To which of course your guy goes, "Ahhh!" as if he had just kicked a damn coffee table. Shortly after this you put an AX in your WIFE'S NECK. And then your guy just goes "what the hell are you?" No emotion, no nothing. You just axed your wife who went berserk and tried to carve you to pieces for no reason while looking like the kid from exorcist and you serious don't have any feelings? Really?

Any who shortly after THAT you find out that psycho **** ain't dead when she knocks you down and attaches your left hand to a wall with a screw driver and then CUTS IT OFF WITH A CHAIN SAW! Your character's response to what is without a doubt the most traumatic, terrifying and painful moment in his entire life? Basically he does the family guy "pain gag" thing where peter rocks back and forth holding his leg going "aaaaaaah... aaaaaaah..." This utterly retarded **** repeats itself over and over again, there's even a point where the daughter of the inbred hillbilly family is introduced and she somehow magically knows how to cure the one off BS zombie disease in this game despite having nothing to do with the umbrella corporation at all, and then she makes a single dose of the cure and you're forced to choose between choosing to cure her, or your FREAKING WIFE. Yeah, i'm going to choose to cure a random ass stranger that i've never seen before over my own wife, THAT makes sense. This kind of utterly moronic less than amateur level writing and horrible planning makes the entire game laughable and it just absolutely destroys the immersion and horror that this game is SUPPOSED to revolve around. The only really scary part of the game is running through the basement and after that it's really just a cakewalk.

The graphics are really good, the environments are genuinely creepy, i'm sure the story itself is decent but it's definitely not going to be anything special "I personally stopped playing because of how boring and predictable the game got". The half hearted and disinterested voice acting is the worst that I have EVER seen in a AAA release, it is so bad that it instantly breaks immersion. The dumbass who voiced your character is devoid of any emotion and even the most basic acting skills and in this type of game that's freaking STUPID. If you want a resident evil game then wait for the RE-2 remake. This crap sandwich is nothing more than a wannabe outlast 2 and a desperate attempt by Capcom to pretend that they're still relevant and capable of producing quality content.

This game really puts you into the hot seat that sends you through a refreshing adventure that differs from the original Resident Evil game series. I honestly was extremely exited to have a different aspect of game play for this certain addition and I hope that they continue this form of art that they have started

I've had a good time with the game but it's really nothing special. It's definitely not a 9 or 10. I love that it takes place in Louisiana. There is something inherently horrifying about that swamp land. Especially in the show True Detective. Overall, not my personal cup of tea but won't deny that it's one of the best in its genre.

this game caught me off guard in a very good way it was not what i expected at all.
Resident evil 7 captures the original games creepy atmosphere and goofy writing incredibly well, a horror game with some good scares but does not take itself to seriously, my only real criticisms are a lack of enemy variety and a disappointing final boss.

The developer's decision to break away from the main RE mythology and tell a stand alone tale is a great one.

At 10 hours long, Resident Evil 7 isn't a lengthy experience, but it is a very absorbing one. Sadly, the shoddy framerate, lower-res graphics and weaker audio on base Xbox One, brings it down a notch. I'd rate it with an 8.7 out of 10.

The way of narration, how they present the graphics/animations is hugely satisfying. Not only the technique of jump-scare that they use but also the tense ambiance which is given by speaking/threatening non-player characters are fearfully dense.

Expand

Even though Resident Evil 7 Biohazard ditches the third person point of view to a first person and a more intimate story, it does an amazing job of bringing back its roots which made the series so successful. The extraordinary work that was done in the different game departments such as story telling, audio, gameplay and graphics will keep me from sleeping at night and remembering it as a great experience.

Resident Evil 7 seems to us an indispensable game if you like the adventures with action and puzzles, but with a great inconvenience: IT IS SO SCARY. Keeps you heartbroken for hours and that is everything that we wanted from this title. Stay away from the prejudices you had about this game of the Resident Evil saga, because you will love it without a doubt.
