A broken buggy mess that clearly needed a lot more work. A shame because it looked like it had potential.

While I am giving this a low review, I am not going to just give it a zero like other people who have reviewed, because it definitely doesn't deserve that. I did not complete the game, reasoning below.

Pros: The story seems compelling, and keeps the storytelling of the first one. The atmosphere of the game is pretty great. The graphics are average, a little better than the prior game,
While I am giving this a low review, I am not going to just give it a zero like other people who have reviewed, because it definitely doesn't deserve that. I did not complete the game, reasoning below.

Pros: The story seems compelling, and keeps the storytelling of the first one. The atmosphere of the game is pretty great. The graphics are average, a little better than the prior game, but the setting itself does kinda draw you in.

Cons: Oh, the bugs. It is really really bad and has made it unplayable for me, which is why I will not go back to it until there is a huge update to fix it. I had triggered a cutscene while being slashed at by a stalker and during the cutscene, I could here the slashing action still happening and the camera kept flying through the building to focus on my character in a different part of the building. One action you can do in game is use the B button (Xbox) to vault over railings. But they applied this action to pretty much any railing, so during a part of the game where the character gets spotted, she exclaims that she has to get off the balcony. The first thing you see if the button prompt to vault over the railing of the balcony, so you assume that you are going to land in the snow and roll down the hill or something, but no. It immediately loaded my game, because you were never intended to leap over the balcony railing. I can guarantee that most players did this as well.

Besides the bugs, the gameplay itself is very unpolished. There were a lot of things about the gameplay of the first game that I did not like, and that were just brought over to this game without any improvement. The inventory system makes no sense to me. You can pick up defense items, distraction items, buff items to enhance your weapons, and other things like ropes to tie doors. But when you look in your inventory, you only see the defense and distraction items. You don't really know what else you are carrying.

The tutorials about how to do basic things never happens. Even in the first one, I had no idea you could hold doors closed by holding X (on Xbox) because the game never teaches you that. Never tells you that you can use ropes to tie doors, or how to do it. So there are so many different ways to defend yourself but you just don't know how. I also found myself getting stun locked by enemies, making it impossible to escape them.

The dev just needs to take the game off the store, spend another couple months fixing all of the issues they left, and release it again. Otherwise, this game is just a failure.

It's difficult not to have the feeling of playing something incomplete and sloppy which ultimately, despite some good ideas, does not honor the big names in the horror world from which it is inspired.

Overall, there just isn’t much to say about Remothered: Broken Porcelain. Almost every aspect of the game disappoints, so you tend not to focus on any one thing while playing. The story was incredibly confusing, but everything else was pretty bad, too, so I didn’t even care. It feels incomplete and not paid attention to.

While I know there are fans of the series, and from what I can gather, Tormented Fathers was actually a decent time, Broken Porcelain feels off to me. Perhaps it needed a few more months of development time to work out the bugs and maybe have a better optimized stealth mechanic, but I don’t think we’ll ever know. There is some complexity to the story and some decent atmosphere, but it takes a lot to actually get into it. If you’re invested in the series, this is a maybe, but if you’re looking for a horror stealth game, there are others to just play much better.
