The characters are fully realised and thought through. Rockstar definitely cared about presenting these characters in a way where you know them and feel connected emotionally all the way through. The story is exciting, humorous, and tragic. Crying at least a couple of times through this game is a real possibility.

The gameplay can seem a little slow and methodical at first, but eventually you get into the intentionally lazy pace and it gives you time to appreciate the gorgeous sights around you.

This is a beautiful game, especially on the Xbox One X. The graphical detail is astounding. If you’re playing on 4K HDR, there are HDR settings in the menu, but they’re not perfect. The lighting is muted in cinematic mode, so set it to gaming mode and you’ll have to push your white levels up pretty high to get a good balance.

While the game is impressive, it isn’t perfect. It comes pretty damn close though. A year after launch and I have not played it again since my first run through, and I haven’t played the online multiplayer since the day it launched. You’ll have to read another review to find out how that is going now. This is a single player game first. If you enjoyed Red Dead Redemption, I cant imagine you not liking this game.

In the time since the original Red Dead Redemption released (one of my personal favorite games and stories ever made) there have been many phenomenal stories be they The Last of Us, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt or even the more recently released God of War. But I must say not only did Red Dead Redemption 2 live up to these examples, but it blew them out of the way in many regards. From the characters to the world to even your horse, everything is connected to Arthur in ways you wouldn’t expect. While the gun play isn’t top notch, the other aspects of the game more than make up for this fact. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a must play for anyone whom values storytelling and character, and it’s a game that will resonate me for as long as I live. And that’s not an exaggeration. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This abomination of a video game cannot be enjoyed at all. I don't even know where to start with this awful freaking piece of junk. The game plays itself and is so easy it could be played on a wiimote with its such basic controls. You can't play a mission without doing exactly what it says. When you come out of cover all you have to do is shoot and the opponent is dead. It has such a slow start and the rest of the story isn't interesting until someone dies. Not to mention that it is a disappointment compared to Red Dead Redemption (2010). The controls are clunky and the online feature is impossible to play without getting shot within 30 seconds of respawning and that isn't the community's fault, that's the games fault. The side missions are impossible to play without getting bored at least once. The honor system does nothing except change the way you freaking die. Arthur's voice is annoying and his character isn't compelling unless you watch multiple youtube videos of some quotes without context. Those youtube videos make Arthur look like a good man when in reality, every mission ends in a shootout. That brings me to my next point, the missions are literally all the same. If you skip every cinematic, then there's a shootout. If you don't skip every cinematic, you are super bored up until the point where you have to murder a bunch of lawmen, innocent people, honest working men or degenerate scum. This stupid sixty dollar waste of plastic that has no replay value and in a word is poopy . The story is so repetitive that i could summarize it by saying it's stupid bandits that make awful decisions and rob people so they can try to go to a Caribbean country to evade the law. In conclusion, this is just an unnecessary mess of a console game that you don't need to play. (I know my points are all over the place but as I said i don't know where to begin with this game.) The characters are amazing, the story is gripping, the details are awesome... And of course the graphics of this Red dead Redemption 2 are so stunning that i'd dare to say that it is at the top of this generation... The game is just gorgeous. However, the game is not perfect. Some secundary missions are dull and some of the tasks you've to do to get the 100% either, in adittion, in despite of the map is huge there is a big part of it empty; with nothing interesting to do. But the worst part of the game it's clearly the online mode... Which has nothing to do with other Rockstar games like Grand Theft Auto. Expand

Arthur is an amazing character and a much more interesting character than John Marston, his backstory could of been touched more but perhaps that is being saved for another game or expansion. There is enough content in this game to last over 100 hours not including the ever expanding online mode. You can fish, hunt, collect, explore and experience the immersive open world scenery and random encounters. The soundtrack is also incredible and is a perfect match for the game. The gang's characters are all interesting in their own way and give you insights into their lives in random interactions in the camp. On another note, the last few hours of the story are incredible and leave you wanting more, despite playing the game for 50+ hours already which is always something that indicated how good a game is. The only downside I could find is that the movement mechanics feel a bit dated and are similar to Grand Theft Auto V, although the gun mechanics are great.

This will be a short review pertaining to the campaign. I will give some brief thoughts on the multiplayer at the end. First I have to say that I originally wrote a review for this game and gave it a 9 and mostly complained about nit-picky things; after my second play through of the campaign I read it, was embarrassed by it, and took it down.

This game is a masterpiece. It tells a beautiful story full of character and emotion that is rarely seen in any entertainment medium. There are moments that are so wonderfully crafted that I daresay even the most cynical of individuals won’t help but become a little emotional. The music is perfect and only present when it needs to be adding poignancy to highlight just the right moments at the just the right time.

The world feels alive and is absolutely beautiful – I’ve played this game on both the One X and PS4 Pro and it looks fantastic on both. This is a world that truly feels like it is living and breathing and just asking to be explored. There are tons of side activities from side missions, to hunting and fishing, poker, dominos and more. Or you might just find yourself wandering around the world admiring the hard work that went into creating its beauty.

The cast, the writing and the acting is all some of the best there has ever been. There are a few little systems in the game that sometimes feel like more of a chore than fun, but they are over shadowed by the brilliance of the world and story.

If you are fan of story driven games this is a must play. Hell, if you are a fan of video games this is a must play. By any objective standard it is brilliantly crafted. Even if you find you aren’t a fan of the subject elements this is not a game that would leave you feeling like you wasted your money. Support this game – games like this need to be supported, they don’t come along very often. It’s just brilliant.

I have been playing the multiplayer since its “full release”. It is okay but still needs some work. The content feels lacking and there are still plenty of bugs, also the grind is real. I am not sure I will stick with it, but then again multiplayer isn’t my preferred genre – you may love it.

Incredible graphic and narrative work, just a masterpiece and a must play for every console gamer. Some people have been saying it's such a boring game because it's around 65 hours of campaign but in my opinion the history never drops off.

The huge open world is wasted on the painfully rigid mssions structure. Do an objective in the way rockstar didnt want you to? Failed mission. Get a little to far away from your gangmates as you slowly and painfully trot towards the mission area becuase you want to check out something neat off the path? Failed mission.

The game still features Rockstars horribly outdated gunplay and cover system.

Arthur and your horses feel like your controlling a shopping cart full of cinderblocks.

Even the new micromanaging systems (horse care, gun maintainance, etc) dont make the game any more fun, they end up just feeling like chores.

Red dead 2 tries too hard to be "impressive" and forgets to be fun.

The soundtrack is one of the best ever devised for a video game. The opportunities to fail when following in the footsteps of Red Dead Redemption were many but RDR2 took all that was great in the original and elevated it. John Maston is one of the most beloved characters in the genre, but not only did Arthur Morgan match him, but for me he far surpassed the original. RDR2 is a masterpiece not only of it's medium and genre but also of how to make a proper sequel/prequel.
Having read some of the lower scored reviews it seems a lot of the negative feedback is about the game's pace, but there are different games for different players and this is by far my favorite way to play a game. To immerse myself, to enjoy the ride from A to B and see what happens on the way. I took so many screenshots as I travailed that I actually hit my Xbox's limit. Something I didn't even know existed. This is a game to enjoy slowly, to sip and savour like a fine brandy. it is not a shot of vodka to be tossed back in one big gulp and swiftly forgotten.
I've replayed the main story and it's epilogue, twice and am still finding new side missions, new characters and new locations to explore.

You have to put the sheer size and ambition of this game into perspective to understand the control scheme. Consoles are still providing the same few buttons and triggers from a decade ago, and Rockstar has to adapt a scheme to cater to it. If you have the patience to learn the controls you completely forget this was ever an issue to start. This game is absolutely gorgeous on the Xbox one X and 4k displays, nothing rivals it. Realism is at the heart of any Rockstar open world game - if you can think it, you can do it. This game challenges the player, and the journey is simply amazing.

The hunting system is great, the better i ever played, there are sometimes more animals on the map than it should have but i thing its not too much unbalanced because some of them aren't easy to catch and they run if they see u coming, could be improved but is one of the best parts of the game.
The fishing system is relaxing and cool but i think that takes too long to catch big fishes but i may be a bad fisherman (have to watch videos to see if im doing something wrong), but its also one of the best parts of the game.
The gather system is good and varied.
The crafting system is varied but not very easy to understand because of its many vendors, ingredients, i think it could be arranged in a better way but also its the best i ever seen and one of the best things in the game.
All of those systems and other parts of the game are negatively compromised by the long animations (they should still exist but be skippable), there should be a hard mode with some options to choose like less loot, slightly less animals to hunt, necessity to eat and sleep and so on, all of this you could choose separately and not as a single thing like on farcry primal.
The graphics are amazing, the weather, light is superb an also the architecture and map details.
There are many glitches specially on horse when u try to jump something and u don't...
The story is... well, i don't liked the major change who occurs i the end of chapter 6, its very... annoying in the post game.
Some missions are great, other not at all like chapter 5 who appears to be taken from a farcry game, completely different from the previous chapters who looks like a more mature (and better) game.
The weapons are excellent visually, really great, its variety and the fact they are not excessively more powerful than other is great. BUT the weapon system... god lord... they could have made as simple as farcry when u can store all weapons on your house and choose one of each to walk around and don't force you to search around dozens of different weapons every minute or even allow you to sell them what would be perfect (is that ask for too much?) this is the single most annoying thing on this game, without this problem this game would be much much better.
Also physics are interesting, like walking on snow or mud is great but for example when you aim and between you and your target there is an object but you see that the projectile trajectory wouldn't pass trough that object but even so the shot hits it its frustrating.
I would give a 9 but its frustrating and irritating when companies make very good games with small annoying problems who are never solved like The Witcher with the movement problem on console, that like they don't care about the costumer because the game is already a success and the are swimming on money.

theres not much to play here which is kind of a crucial omission if you want to make a game. the animations are so painfully slow with seconds of startup frames for almost anything you do. wanna run with more than one person around? froget that you´ll be bumping into them racking up bounty on your head. also the controls and menus are redicoulous i can´t imagine what they were smoking when coming up with this nonsense. you wanna find cover? great let´s make the take cover and leave cover button the same button so that 90 percent of the time you´ll be climbing on top of something you were planning to take cover behind which leaves you exposed to gunfire and liable to get killed immideately. you might wanna load your game after dying but hold on we can´t have that you might think you saved your game in a specific state but you´d be sadly mistaken about that you´ll be put kind of in the general area from where you saved if you´re lucky.
so on my way back to where you actually saved you come across a legendary animal for hunting put the pelt on your horse and on you go. io then saw that my bounty hunting target was the ways as well so lasso the guy and put him on your horse but wait. we can´t have you have 2 things on your horse no no you have to leave the legendary pelt somewhere in the middle of nowhere for the first half the game theres no quick travel and even then it´s pretty useless so 95% of the time youll be riding around doing nothing. most of the game feels like tedious work why would you want that when playing a game?

This game is the definition of "tedious". It's a huge let down from the first and not fun to play. The only reason people like it is because they are excited about the developer, Rockstar. Which is understandable since they are the makers of GTA. This game is so overhyped it's unreal. It's not worth your time. Boring.

The excellent beginning and the end of the game was very frequent in their previous games, and here the middle strongly sank in respect of direction, most was also with Red Dead Redmption of 2010. In the second part a plot uniform. Graphics on Xbox One X is amazing, it is possible to carp of course at artificial HDR, but the fact that a game goes to the native 4K most part of time laudable. In general RDR2 a bright indicator that video games not just a part of the modern art, and it is rather an a leader of the industry. RDR2 looks much better than the majority of movies of a genre a western. And the most important RDR2 it is made as it is should for the mass player in difference from GTA. Here 50% of time - riding a horse and what description of the real life it are. Artur the most ordinary person. The epilog very competently underlines that the sense of a game is simple and it is not necessary to show any great things or acts of heroes to make the best game of the current generation of consoles. It is possible to refer to minuses only management. It here з and just stronger reduces the rate of a game. 10 of 10, the best game of the last 5 years. The world feels vast and lived in, the characters well developed and the musical score that envelopes you is subtle, perfect and never overbearing. The gameplay has its quirks, the combat is not quite as fluid as you would sometimes want and you will fall off your horse after slamming into a tree on occasion but this never detracted from the immersion. It is very easy to forgive RDR2's little quirks when the story being told is so perfectly executed and the connection with your character so strong, largely down to a stand out performance from Roger Clark who spent years recording dialogue and motion capture for Arthur.

If you didn't like RDR1 then I'm afraid this isn't going to change your mind. However, if you're ready to go on one last ride then saddle up and experience one of the most emotionally rewarding games in recent memory. It might not end how you expect......but that's the way it is.

No critics just awesome story awesome online I don't get why people rate the game low cause of all the long cutscenes you can skip those. There are a lot of missions story and side missions but it is because Rockstar games want the story to last a long time so people don't go through the story too quickly. in conclusion, a really good game and can't wait for Rockstar to put out GTA VI.

The best part of this game is that there is so much to do. You can choose to run through the main missions or embark on the many challenges and achievements . The graphics are incredible and the map is huge. There are many things to find and plunder on the map. There might be something valuable in every structure. A hidden cubby hole might have $100 worth of stuff in it. Early in Chapter 2 I had explored and plundered about every corner of the map. I was careful to loot every dead body. Occasionally that caused me to lose missions but my wallet was always fat. Arthur's stuff was all pimped out.
When you complete the main story line there are still things to do. Bounties, achievements, legendary animals if you haven't collected them. The first game's map enables in the Epilogue. I don't know what's on it yet. Some people criticized activities that are not mandatory.
Clothing? Didn't bother with it. Gaming? I consider the games stupid and tedious. Treasure-hunting? It's not as easy as in the first game. I got tired of falling to my death and went to Youtube.
A big negative is lack of fast-travel options and fast-travel to self-marked vicinity as in the first game. Travel was limited to named destinations.
Also, path-finding issues and other technical glitches. Characters getting stuck forced abandonment of missions. Charles won't put the body in the wagon and just stands there, etc. Rains Fall knocks Charles off his horse so you lose the mission, etc. Because Charles won't re-mount. Control/button issues where the option won't function. Often you have to jiggle stuff and move around to get buttons to function and game play to proceed. That wasn't just occasional-that was prevalent. One time I got Charles unstuck by running into him. You can accidentally bump some one with your horse in town and suddenly have the entire town shooting at you. And then owe a bounty if you escape. It interrupts what you're trying to do. You will spend a lot on bounties in this game unless you want a constant price on your head.
You can lose missions in a hundred different ways. Some times by following confusing or untimely AI instructions. I found that it was important not to mess with the controls until dialogue finished because it could cause a problem. Some times you can skip useless dialogue. Too often they won't allow it. Cut-aways can interfere with the flow of the action.
Right at the end of the main story the audio started acting up. Sounds like hoofbeats and the whistle disappeared. Segments of dialogue became inaudible. This continued in the Epilogue.
The gun play seemed to be clumsier than the first game and the Dead Eye less accurate. Dead eye marking was definitely made harder. Annoying to shoot people in the head at close range and having them get up again. Or when some one survives being shot in the middle of the chest or back with a high-powered rifle. I think it was taking 5 shots with the Mauser to drop some people.
The AI characters really are stupid and easy to kill if you take your time. The only thing they have in their favor is surprise. Your character will always have superior firepower. If you were any good with your shooting in the first game killing your opponents in this game will be a piece of cake. Perhaps too easy.

    É um jogo sem alma, rockstar não foi tão criativa para desenvolver idéias novas para esse título, não tem um desenvolvimento bom na história e sem sistemas que evoluem durante a jogatina, é o mesmo do início ao fim, a justificativa disso, claro, é a falta de liberdade criativa pela proposta da ambientação escolhida;
    >época tediosa, jogo tedioso.
''Por que devo continuar?'' eu me pegava o tempo toda fazendo essa pergunta. Como eu não joguei o primeiro, a história pouco me importava e as motivações de conquistas não existiam, tanto em game, tanto fora dele com os sistemas da Xbox live.

All that I love is good, but the game do suffer some flaws. While playing the game, some sections on the game gets a bit buggy at some parts. I don't mind long games because the world of RDR2 is huge and there are plenty areas to explore, but despite how long the game is, it can get a little boring doing some things over and over again. During missions, there are marks in the game that tells you where to go and it has boundaries. I wish they can give us a non-linear missions where you can do whatever you want to craft your experience instead of linearly scripted missions where you have to follow what the game tells you to do and you fail f you mess it up. That's probably the main issue have with this: Big environment world to explore yet you have to follow the game how it tells you to play.

Overall, it is a great game to play but it can sometimes turn you off at some point. I originally gave this game a 10/10, but after realizing some mistakes while playing the game, I'll give it 8/10

What it boils down to is watch a cut scene, travel somewhere, then kill a bunch of people with not a whole lot of difference in missions throughout the campaign. First thing the game is huge to huge in my opinion and I wished there would be in general a change from big and empty maps to smaller one's full of life.
Secondly its slow, sometimes painfully slow, I know the developer aimed for realism here, but do I need to see every movement from eating food, getting on the horse and so on and so on.
Also I felt a lack of mission variety, most of them felt repetitive sprinkled with some unique missions here and there and some great side missions.

Story wise, I loved Arthur and the change he was going trough the story, also the charm of the other characters where great, but the story itself and the pacing made me feel bored and on the end I went from mission to mission just to see how all ties together and that's it.
Normally in other games I also try to get all collectibles, but in here I couldn't care less.
The only one's what made me travel trough this huge world were bounties and hunting the legendary animals.

The game isn't made to be rushed through, and strives to feel like an actual world. The amount of word that went in to each individual animation is astounding. There must be thousands of them for thousands of different situations.

The story is incredible, and is setup so that you can play at your own pace. Even differing outcomes depending on who you encounter, and how you act toward certain NPC's.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Trivial spoilers only. Hard one to review because some aspects are clearly 9-10 and others 5-6.
I've waited until I'm about 85% through the main quest to feel confident enough to give an opinion.
I've played games since the mid 80s and was looking forward to this one for many years.
An overall score of 7.5 is what I was thinking and that is the about the average score here.

The 2nd RDR takes a darker turn in the series, noir at times. You are definitely a bad guy (who does some fishing on the side). Some of the consequences of your evil ways punctuate a general trend of failing to get "the big one" score, your team winnowed through attrition, betrayal and a feeling time is running out. You might think this storyline would be ripe for an atmosphere of tension (so necessary for the reward of relief or success), but it just fizzles out.

This is part of a general feeling of a lack of reward in the game, which is a central aspect of gaming entertainment and psychology. (There are some real high points early on, however).
It also lacks the irreverent humor of the 1st Red Read (eg the "films" aren't as funny, no calls such as "what have you been eatin'! or the actually funny side quests such as "flowers for a lady"). Some interactive elements (button sequences or mashing, common in the earlier Walking Dead series) seem dated and mechanistic, begging for a puzzle. The gambling side games aren't bad, but max bet is $5. That is tough when you have a 1000+ in the kitty. Again, the option for reward is limited. As said by others, you can put away a load of money, but there is not much to spend it on, so thousands end up with nowhere to go.

SJW infused themes are unfortunately present. First, the mandatory head nod to diversity - you have a mixed black Indian, also a Hispanic in your team, the remaining white males diluted down with various women. That is in contrast to what the real mix would have looked like in the late 19th C.

I was surprised to see blacks in the area that seems like a take on a mountain town in the north.
Boilerplate modern media/college conceptions of racism appear in the southern area and of course it is one way street of white on black, (as per the doctrine, though so contrasting to the actual direction of discrimination and violence nowadays).

Only one bad black guy (a bad debtor) appears as a side quest versus manifold white ones. There is also a "special person" in your crew, an unscrupulous loan/card shark. He gets off lightly. Even still, usgamer has a hit piece crying antishemitizm tropes, with the obligatory hollowcost reference. Such are the offended times we live in.
You of course are not racist at all, just a mere mass murdering felon, which is a type of criminal lower down on the SJW totem pole than utterer of racial epithets.

There is an absurd SJW moral moment in which you sally forth with the black Indian mesitzo to deal with some sickos who shoot bison for fun, instead of just to eat. So, of course, you murder them and social justice is served. To cap it off, at any time in the game, you can at will go shooting for shytz and giggles. That gets me thinking, has anyone tried to run down and dynamite a rabbit or coyote?

The main story itself opens strongly then plateaus, with the odd high point, such as a bank heist, but a huge number of filler-like sequential gunfights in the middle of the game become boring through repetition and the story thusly disengaging. It is a chore at 85% completion. That said, the game is not short and it took couple of weeks of solid play and exploration to get to this point.

The voice acting is generally of a good standard, though that of Dutch seems increasingly weak, annoying and melodramatic as the game progresses. Maybe this was intended. I swear its a fat guy doing it.

Outstanding graphics, about a 9 and some aspects a 10. Truly beautiful at times.

The background music is professionally engineered and contributory to immersion. Negro spirituals add a certain mood, but are disproportionate to the times and gringo folky tunes would be more apt (first such one encountered around 80% of the way through the main story).

The design and faults in the control system detract significantly from the game, otherwise overall the game would be hard to rate under 8. The inventory wheel interferes way too much to feel properly "in the game". Often you can't take the weapons you intend to into a fight, you get the wrong one (eg varmint rifle in a shootout!, or the games overrides your choices).

Movement is clunky and a bit buggy at times, such as getting stuck (not common), but not uncommonly comes a need to hover a number of times to correctly loot a body or cabinet.

Despite all the carping, playing such a long game to 85% percent completion is itself an indicator of a pretty good game, which this assuredly is, but it is well short of a 10. It probably remains the best of close to best of 2018 in a sea of mediocre titles

The story is fantastic, the graphics are beautiful, the initial game is what companies should be making. The online mode is rubish and it's very disappointing. It could use something like card games (Texas Holdem, Blackjack, etc.), regular team deathmatches, etc. It's just a crapbasket right now.

Arthur (and therefore, the world) feels like an extension of your body - which is a sensation rarely achieved by a game - and is due in large part to hyper-realistic physics, wonderfully obsessive attention to detail, soundtrack, and the arduously crafted gameplay mechanics. Whether all of this means hunkering down for an all-day play marathon and wrapping yourself in sensory and mental ecstasy, or finding the quickest ways to get from A to B because a horse can only gallop so fast, is up to the individual.
The story holds a solidly perfect number of main missions that leave nothing untold or shrouded in excess mystery. Side missions, challenges, points of interest, profound and complicated characters, and miles-long checklists add a heap of extra depth to an unfathomably deep game, making it a never-ending legacy and a completionist's dream.
Emotional attachment to characters could nearly be stated as a warning and disclaimer on the box - in fact, I don't think I've ever felt so many emotions in the course of any one game. This aspect is heightened by the organic mechanics and beautiful, next-generation world design. If you have trouble expressing your emotions, here's a solution: lock yourself up in a room and take a long gander at this game.

Richly gorgeous, mesmerizing, thought-provoking, and utterly alive, Red Dead Redemption 2 is fast becoming a beloved trophy for many gamers, and has already staked out its claim on the collective heart of the gaming industry.

I love Red Dead Redemption 2, but I wish there was less time spent traveling between locations. I wish the game was faster paced as well. The game looks stunning though. It does a good job at capturing that West feeling. I probably would have given this game a 9, but I'm giving this a 10 to potentially raise it's 7.4 user score.

I created a profile here just to give my two cents about RDR 2. In one word - disappointing! From a visual/graphics standpoint, it's stunning and extremely well done but unfortunately, that is the only positive thing I can say. There was a lot of care and craftsmanship put into building the world. I wish I could say the same about the actual gameplay!

I got midway into chapter 2 and stopped playing because I found the gameplay and storyline very boring; it gets off to a slow start and continues at a snail's place. Now, slow doesn't necessarily mean bad if the story and/or characters are engaging, but I personally didn't find the story or characters captivating at all, which makes the game fall flat on its face. Characters are blah and the story is repetitive at best.

The controls are clunky and there's such an emphasis on replicating real life, that playing the game becomes a chore - seems like a common thing I've read in other reviews here and it is 100% true. You have to feed and groom your horse constantly or it will lose health. You have to wear the appropriate clothing for the weather or you lose health. And those are just a few examples. While true to life, those details add no substance to the game and honestly make it less fun. Hunting is cumbersome, and not worth it considering how tedious it is (ex: you can only use certain weapons to kill certain animals or you destroy the meat), and how little money you make. And the little money you come across early in the game, you're supposed to give to the camp.

The inventory/weapons management system is confusing. Actual combat and gunplay - which I was really looking forward to - were probably the biggest letdown of all. My biggest criticism regarding combat is that it's overly complicated, not straightforward. I found myself hesitant to commit crimes and actually have fun in the game because I was forewarned that the bounty system sucks, frankly. Once there's a bounty, it doesn't go away until paid off, which wouldn't be so bad except that money is hard to come by.

I was really pumped about this game and I found myself disappointed. Maybe at some point when I have nothing better to do (and no better games to play), I'll give it another shot and try to force myself through the story to see if it gets better. To be fair, I am only on chapter 2. But the fact that I'm saying that means that RDR 2 massively undelivered, at least in my opinion.

I had a friend who bought the game, only to return it a few weeks later because it was so disappointing. I am only keeping the game because I got it as a Christmas present and didn't spend my own money. There are definitely better games for the price. Wildly overhyped. Sadly, I don't recommend it.

Not sure where all these 9/10 and 10/10 reviews are coming from because it's very flawed, far from perfect. Either those reviewers are drunk, or they played a different game.

The game is spread out through 6 chapters. The intro mission in Chapter 1 combines strong visuals, voice acting, phenomenal music, and gameplay elements that you will use throughout the game. Rockstar has set the bar for written narratives in not just video games, but in entertainment as a whole. Arthur is the trusted associate to the gang's leader Dutch Van Der Linde, whom we met in the first Red Dead Redemption game. You get to learn about all members in the gang, you talk to them, sit around campfires with them, and go out on missions with them. The game has some of the most memorable quotes from all of video games, and some amazing dialogue between Arthur and characters throughout the game. Rockstar has also set the bar for open world games. Many games have advertised their open world as a "fully breathing and living world", but they failed on that promise. Rockstar has completely nailed that aspect of delivering a true open world. You are able to interact with every single NPC in the game, with the option of "greet" or "antagonize". Every npc responds differently both initially, and after you interact with them. Rockstar has added such elements as, if you kill an npc their family members could come hunt you down, and if you kill someone an npc can respond to the blood on your clothes. You can go to the barber, go fishing, rob a man, save a man's life, go have a time at the saloon, and so much more. The game does have some gameplay issues though. Player movement can feel a little clunky at times, meaning you don't feel as comfortable moving around. The cover system can mess up at times, and really screw you over in a gunfight. The core system felt a little tedious at times, but never really never bothered me because provisions (which are needed to refill your 3 cores: health, stamina and dead eye) are really accessible. While riding your horse, to fall off and get yanked by trees, rocks, and other things in the environment. Many parts of the game would feel boring since you are just riding your horse around, but I really liked it when you were riding with fellow gang members because of the conversations you would have. Onto the positives about gameplay. Dead Eye returns from RDR, which is the ability to slow down time and mark enemies to fire all at once, and it is bad***. Gunfights are fun and some of the Arthur's sarcasm during the gunfights are hilarious. While riding your horse, you have the ability to press either square or x to jump on to someone else's horse. The way you can explore the environment, whom you come across, what you come across (such as a KKK meeting) is amazing. Rockstar has implemented thousands of secrets into the game, many will probably never be found until after RDR3 comes out. The elements of storytelling Rockstar implemented in the dialogue is astonishing, especially their use of foreshadowing and irony. Since this is a prequel to Red Dead Redemption, they set the bar for how a prequel should be done. Unlike the X Men movies or the Star Wars prequels, every single thing in Red Dead Redemption makes sense now. Rockstar connected these two perfectly. The way you play as Arthur Morgan, the you do everything with him, the way you decide who he is, the way you follow him through his journey, Roger Clark's performance as Arthur, easily makes him one of the greatest protagonists in all of gaming. Clark's acting in some of these cutscenes is amazing, and without going into spoilers, you won't forget this game. this review can't do justice to how amazing this game is, all I can say is, get the game (after watching or playing the first one), take your time, and you won't regret it. Despite some flaws in the gameplay, Red Dead Redemption 2 was an amazing ride from start to finish and one that I wish I could play for the first time again. Expand

The game looks absolutely gorgeous on Xbox One X.
The animations in this litteraly made me want to chop woods, drink coffee, ride horses, hunt etc etc...

Rockstar seems to be picking the best from every studio has to offer, you can see some of Ubisoft work, Kojima's work and many more and it's like they're giving a masterclass. They're saying through the game : "Hey students, look at how you should do things".

How many games, in every day and age, can offer you a Solo story of a 100 hours ?
CD Projekt said they wanted to do Something like RDR2, well I really like CDPR and it's great that they want to learn from the best because we absolutely need more projects like that.

The NPCs are unlovable, peppered with the usual Rockstar profanity & disdain for any kind of civil behaviour. Every plot point is off kilter, every story is at odds with the "player 1 is a hero" ideal. If you try to do the evil play through you will find it equally jarring as there are forced points of "being the hero" moments.

I'm giving it a 2 instead of a 0 simply because the graphics are very pretty at times however there are plenty of glitch moments that highlight how little work went into polishing this horse turd. If you've managed to avoid it so far, keep going. I was unable to complete the last chapter as it was so annoying to play.

If I ran Rockstar I would, genuinely not just trying to start an argument or annoy people, review the work put in by all the people who made this & ask them some serious questions about their future at the company. I feel like this game was designed to destroy Rockstar's reputation & annoy their audience. Honestly I'm very disappointed & saddened by how this game turned out. I would also analyse the so called "professional critics" reviews & ask many of them if they actually played the game as giving this game more than 70% raises a lot of questions about how they rate games.

Since this release of RDR2 I have no faith in rockstar games anymore, they will focus again on online, battle royale, and to make profit from it. My question is here: Do game companys care about gamers? No, only a few companys do but not the large ones anymore. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Red Dead Redemption 2 is not a game, it’s a masterpiece. I made a Metacritic account just to give it a 10 out of 10.

The world I saw giant, featuring a vast array of different landscapes and sceneries. There are big cities, desert town, farmlands, snowy mountains, jungles and many more for you to explore. The map of RDR2 also features the New Austin area of the first RDR, so you will be pleased to see your old, favorite places from the first game. The story is set all around the big map, so you will be able to explore the whole of it as you’re playing the story.

And the gameplay is also extremely fun. The guns feel better than ever. As you’re playing through the story, you unlock new guns, which you can then buy and customize however you want. But also, the more you shoot your guns, the better you get at shooting them, so you have many option of what you want to do, use new better guns or stick to older ones. And the shooting never gets repetitive, it’s actually otherwise. The more you shoot, the more you want to shoot, so you play each mission with a lot of excitement to shoot more bad guys.

And there are loads of story missions, side missions and other activities to do. As you travel around the world on your horse, you bump into many random encounters, which can be either hostile or friendly and there are so many of them, that I don’t think I’ve done the same random encounter more than twice, which means that the random encounters also don’t get repetitive. And many side missions have plots and plot twists, so many times you’re just expecting to help someone, but end up hating or even killing them.

And now I’ll get into spoilers about the story, so if you want to play the story, don’t read the next 2 paragraphs. Arthur Morgan is probably the best written character of any Rockstar game. When the story first starts, you’re playing as a hillbilly guy, who is very angry and insults everyone for no apparent reason. You don’t like him at first and want to play as John Marston, but as the story goes on, you can see Arthur change and become a good man. You get very close to him, as if he is your best friend and then boom (big spoiler) he gets diagnosed with tuberculosis. This was a big and tragic shock for all RDR2 players, as you can see millions of searches on google about tuberculosis and if you can cure it. Every RDR2 Player was devastated.

As the story continues Arthur gets better and worse in front of your eyes. You can see how now he is a very good man, but his health state is awful and you know that he will die, but you just hope that he won’t. And in the end, when you think that finally the bad times are over, Dutch betrays you, Micah is a rat and half of the Gang is gone. As you go to your camp, you feel such loneliness and sadness, thinking about all your dead friends and seeing how your gang went from being so big to so small. And then Arthur dies. I was unable to play the story for 3 weeks after that happened. It was as if my brother died, I couldn’t cope with it. And then playing as John was not as satisfying and I didn’t really want to play anymore, I just wanted Arthur back. This game drove me through so many emotions and made me cry so many tears of both joy and sadness, that I will remember this story for the rest of my life. It is the best story you will ever play.

Overall this game is a game of the century, with many things to do and see and an award winning story, this game is a must have for anyone who likes videogames.

RDR2 is one of the greatest games of the modern age. It’s a gorgeous depiction of an ugly period that’s patient, polished, and a huge amount of fun to play, and it’s combined with Rockstar’s best storytelling to date. it has great graphics and detailed environment.

The game would be perfect, if it wasn't for the difficulty to get 100% progression, like these ridiculous challenges that is not a challenge at all, it's just time consuming...

This game is incredible. One of my favorite games of the generation. There's so much to see and do. The missions are almost all interesting and fun. The controls take a little getting used to but once I did get used to them I had no issue with them. The story it tells is easily one of the very best in gaming. Coming off 120 hours of AC Odyssey (where I had to stop because I was doing really menial tasks, even though I enjoyed it), I am shocked at slow and dull this is. This is not open world. It's so structured and the tasks so boring, the character controls so poorly designed. Looks great, but this is not a video game in any sense. It's almost a game of QTE pretending to be a video game.

    Unquestionably 2018's best game, and an all-time open-world masterpiece. [Christmas 2018, p.89]

It doesn’t matter if you are gamer, a human being, or an alien from another planet; Red Dead Redemption 2 is a title that you just can’t miss. The bar set by RDR2 is so high that even Rockstar itself will probably have a hard time raising it. One of the best releases in the history of digital entertainment.

While it has some notable but minor flaws, it's hard to argue that Red Dead Redemption 2 is not a masterpiece. The end result of the meticulous detail, wonderful writing and stunning looks is an open world that sets a new bar for believability, and a time and place I can't stop thinking about or wanting to be a part of.
