A crisp HD upgrade for one of the finest and most elegant games of its genre. [Issue#160, p.84]

We have a winter outside, but with Okami HD you can jump right in the middle of the spring. Ten years left marks on this original action adventure, but far less than it might seem. If you are fine with sometimes strange effects, and you don´t mind low difficulty and -at the first place- you love fairy tales, there is hardly a more beautiful and more optimistic game than Okami.

If you haven’t played Okami yet, then Okami HD is the perfect time to dive in and see what Nippon is all about. Okami represents the absolute pinnacle of art in games, an art that we all love, care about, and have passion for. An art form that we grew up with and helped mold us into the people we are today. The next time you meet somebody that doesn’t think games are art, show them Okami HD and show them how wrong they really are.

Okami HD is just as good now as it was when it launched in 2006, but now in beautiful 4K. There's no excuse not to own this game in some fashion now.

Nearly a dozen years after it’s initial release, Okami remains a beautifully-realized vision that will still be enticing to players for a long time to come.

Okami HD originally had me in two minds. The start of the experience saw the old PS2 ghosts of Christmas Past hanging around like a bad smell, with long cutscenes, strange sounds and a weird camera. But when the game kicked on, I began to be amazed at the visuals, the invention and the whole experience.

An artistic masterwork, still visually stunning and unique after more than 10 years from its first release, and with a very distinctive gameplay. If you like Zelda-style action-RPGs, this is a game to have.

The distinct art style and visual palette is as dominant today as it was eleven years ago, and it’s aged incredibly well as a result.

Ōkami HD is a great game which is let down but its difficult brush controls. Luckily, that doesn't take away too much from the experience, and anyone can enjoy the title's gorgeous visuals and powerful story.

Okami HD is essential, especially if you've never been lucky enough to play Clover's 2006 classic before. And even if you have, you owe it to yourself to play it and love it all over again. It's utterly sublime.

After a wave of releases that has emptied our wallets, it's time to make a last effort because, beyond the sloppiness when it comes to remastering the technical section or translating the videogame, Okami HD is still as perfect as it was in 2006. A love letter to the players.

If you’re looking for deep combat and puzzles in a Zelda style, you’ll have to look elsewhere, but for anyone else, Okami offers a rich world that will undoubtedly leave you happy to have been in.

Okami HD looks great and is a one of a kind game. If you like the Japanese art and love to puzzle a little bit, this is the game for you.

Titles like this are very rare, and are becoming less and less likely to be made with every passing year, as publishers are opting for more homogeneously designed releases. When Clover was around, it strove for interesting and eclectic action games, like God Hand and Viewtiful Joe. The team lives on in the form of Platinum Games, but even now it is a developer that plays it much safer than it used to. As far as conversions go, Okami HD is solid. Some aspects should be better when considering today's standards for remasters, but when the core experience is still able to hold up for over 10 years, it's hard to complain.

There have been many remasters that have come out over recent years and some of them I was actually looking forward to, but without a doubtThere have been many remasters that have come out over recent years and some of them I was actually looking forward to, but without a doubt Okami HD is the game I was looking forward to the most ever since it was first announced. Okami HD was one of my favourite game’s of the year back in 2006 and it once again is one of my favourite game’s of the year here in 2017. As soon as the story started I was hooked again and I forgot how good and interesting the story was, so it was fantastic to revisit it. Another thing I forgot is just how much content the game has, and the best thing is that none of the content is boring so you will sink many enjoyable hours in. They have done a very good job with the gameplay in this remaster and that’s especially the case when it comes to the combat in the game. The combat remains smooth and responsive throughout and tackling a huge variety of enemies has never been so fun. I don’t have much bad to say at all about the game and in fact my only gripe was the fiddly camera, which is a testament to how good the game is. If you like game’s that offer you an abundance of upgrades then Okami HD will definitely tick this box for you, and the best thing is that they make each upgrade matter which is great. The presentation side of the game was stunning back in 2006, so to see it in 2017 with all the upgrades was simply fantastic. Visually Okami HD is one of the best looking game’s I’ve ever seen and the accompanying sound design works perfectly with the beautiful visuals. At the end of the day it was a pleasure to play Okami HD again, and even though it offers you nothing different over the original game I still recommend that you purchase it again. If you’ve never played Okami HD before then you’re in for a real treat and I recommend that you purchase it immediately because it’s that good. As far as remasters go this is without a doubt up there with the best I’ve ever played and once again Okami HD is probably in my top three favourite game’s of the year, which is no small feat. This game is very good. Not even comparing to other games within it's genre, like Zelda. Okami stands the test of time, not only with it's graphics, but also gameplay and story. It uses a beautiful water color art style, replicating the amazing art of old Japanese paintings. It may be simple, but is effective at making you feel like you've stepped inside one of those paintings. The story follows Amaterasu Okmai, on her quest to save the land of Nippon from the evil spirit Orochi. The many characters and places feel very authentic to the culture. Which despite that, Okami still feels like a game anyone of any culture can appreciate and enjoy. The gameplay is varied and unique with it's main mechanic, the ability to use a paintbrush and use magical god abilities on your enemies and the world around you to solve puzzles. And the music is once again, very authentic to it's culture. A lot of the pieces are lovely to listen to and very moving. Okami is a game which if you have not tried, I highly recommend at least giving it a play. It's a must in any gamers collection. Full Review »
