In a not exactly over saturated strategy game market, it is worth a look, but it is so po-faced and serious about the subject matter – for want of a better phrase – the developers have forgotten to insert any fun into Numantia.

Numantia's setting is unique, the story is interesting and allows you to make important choices, and the gameplay is challenging and strategic. However, this turn-based title is wrapped in an unpolished package that doesn't let the positive traits shine: frequent bugs and glitches are off-putting, inputting commands feels sluggish, the controls aren't well-suited for console, and there are lots of missed opportunities to guide and educate the player more. Despite the fact Numantia might not be the pinnacle of strategy games, if you're an Xbox player craving the genre, you might be willing to put up with the flaws.

What the game does really well in my opinion is that it gives you a great deal of satisfaction when victorious, and this definitely made me want to carry on. I will say though that the steep learning curve can be a little extreme at times and this will definitely put some people off. If you like interesting and decent tactical options then Numantia will interest you because they have done a good job here. Unfortunately though the AI is a big problem and these tactical options end up being redundant because the AI always seems to play the same way. When it comes to the battlefields in the game thankfully they’ve been done pretty well. Each battlefield has a decent variety to it and the added weather elements give the battlefields a nice touch of realism. Hiring and deploying troops on these battlefields however can be a little too complicated at times, and I must admit that I found myself getting annoyed and frustrated quite a few times when attempting this. The presentation side of the game won’t please everybody and it definitely won’t win any awards, but I actually quite liked it and I think it gives the game a certain amount of charm and uniqueness. At the end of the day Numantia is a game that can provide you with quite a few enjoyable moments, but be prepared because the game does have a few shortcomings. I don’t think these shortcomings are the biggest problem for the game though because in my opinion the biggest thing that will put people off is the price, which is way too steep. Without a doubt you will either love or hate this game and whilst it does just enough to get a recommendation from me I can’t fully recommend you to get it unless it lowers in price. Expand
