May 13, 2015It's a game that prioritizes emotion above all else, and it does so wonderfully. But as the boy at the heart of this tale learns, emotions are tough to understand, and thus NERO is tough to understand. You'll just know that you felt something, and that sensation alone is worth the journey.
-
May 28, 2015Nero is a beautiful contrast between light and dark, love and pain. It's not a fast-paced game, but rather a reflective, insightful, and emotional experience that is a very different kind of game that what we're used to.
-
Aug 7, 2015It's definitely a Westernized way of approaching the visual novel, but if you look at it just so, you can see how it might fit in that box.
-
Jun 9, 2015As a debut for Storm in a Teacup, Nero is a partial success that you should try. While not free from defects and with puzzles that, in many cases, leave something to be desired in terms of originality and variation, the touching story told by Nero has been able to excite us in many moments.
-
May 17, 2015Nero stays true to its billing as an interactive novel, and while there are plenty of hiccups in nearly every facet of the game, none of them are particularly experience-ruining.
-
May 17, 2015NERO is pretty to look at but is decidedly lacking when it comes to substance or involving players in the intricate story it’s trying to tell.
-
May 15, 2015Nero is a flawed but admirable project, a clear labour of love, and absolutely an experience worth having. One in the win column for self-publishers everywhere.
-
May 23, 2015A faulted, but interesting first effort from the Italian team named Storm in a Teacup. A deep and moving adventure a bit too thin on the gameplay side and with a few tech issue which is still worth your time.
-
May 18, 2015Nero tells an interesting story in an original way, and if you're into narrative experiences, you should consider it. On the other hand, many technical aspects have been overlooked but the dev team, and that's a terrible shame.
-
May 17, 2015A peculiar and highly niche experience, which explores a new way of storytelling in video games at the expense of a more "playful" interaction. More novel than game, its story can be really touching but an almost irritating exploration slowness and several technical problems keep it from reaching its full potential.
-
Jun 1, 2015Nero calls itself an interactive story, and does fine by itself with the story aspect, however interaction is sorely lacking.
-
May 17, 2015Nero is an interesting adventure, but it has very important technical issues that make it feel worse than it is at its core.
-
May 19, 2015An emotional experience, NERO is also a brief and expensive game, hampered by a myriad of technical issues and uninspired mechanics.
-
May 16, 2015Your mileage may vary depending on how much the story grabs you, but most will find that the asking price here is too high for what you get.
-
May 15, 2015No dice. Nero is a failure, however you look at it. It's a (pricey) indie title, but nevertheless it's technically more than mediocre; gameplay and storytelling are trite and stale, and so are the puzzles. Nero is the Italian word for black, and this game truly gives the developers a black eye.
-
May 15, 2015Nero is a flawed non-game, with boring puzzles and lackluster visuals. Its interesting and captivating atmosphere is not enough.
-
May 20, 2015As a visual novel and piece of fiction, NERO is an absolute treasure. As an actual game? It is almost a complete disaster, with slow, boring gameplay, and technical hiccups abound.
-
May 15, 2015Nero holds a lot of promising ideas and a neat little story back with a smorgasbord of technical mishaps and slow, choppy gameplay.
-
May 29, 2015A few interesting puzzles can’t save Nero from being an overwritten, mawkish plod that runs so poorly on the Xbox One it’s tough to play without feeling sick.
