Necromunda: Underhive Wars needs a lot of work, and is littered with bugs, save issues, and an abundance of little annoyances that break immersion. But when you press past, you will find a competent game with some interesting mechanics, a rich progression and loot based endgame, hours and hours of potential tactical goodness, and a genuine effort to make a stand out, highly rewarding strategy game.

Put in the time to learn its nuances and you’ll come away with a game that rewards you for the time you put into it, it just takes a very long time to get to that point. There’s a lot of potential to be had, but I found missions to be much too lengthy and tedious to keep my attention with its excruciating slow pacing, especially when losing an hour’s worth of gameplay and having to redo it all over again. Necromunda: Underhive Wars is going to mainly appeal to diehard Warhammer 40K fans and those that want to play anything similar to X-COM with its tactical gameplay, but it’s a hard sell for the casual fan that will mostly likely feel it’s a little too clunky.

Necromunda: Underhive Wars is actually a pretty decent strategy RPG once you dig into it. It does itself a great disservice by simply being obscure and steering you towards its boring story mode from the outset, but go against it and create your own gang and you’ll find an experience that is hugely rewarding. There is still the issue of its turtle’s pace to overcome though – hopefully developer Rogue Factor can patch in an option to speed up the gameplay when you’re watching the CPU.

Necromunda: Underhive Wars on Xbox One has raw potential, but as it stands at the moment the game is a bit of a mess and you’d need to stick with it and look beyond its faults to see the potential in there. And even then, the story-mode and operations may not quite have enough to keep you coming back.

So, I was really waiting for this game to come. So far, my observations are the following:

    - The feel of the game is spot on. Everything looks great, the maps and the characters look authentic.

    - For me, I had Issues with the game freezing and closing, but after reloading I got back to the exact same spot, time, so nothing was lost. Today though, I got a bug where if I start an objectives mission, the autosave logo never disappears, lags frequently and then after the mission is over, it just stucks. You cannot progress anymore.

    - The AI is extremely dumb. They just use random buffs, run around like headless chicken and attack sometimes. The only real way they can cause trouble if:
    1. they are much stronger than you
    2. you are limit testing and go rambo and they punish you
    3. or the random crit they hit and you don't expect it.
I haven't tried brutal yet, but they do this on easy and normal, and on YT gameplay videos you can clearly see that the AI capabilities are not that much better on brutal either. They seem to understand what they can do, they are just not doing it. Maybe the AI optimization patterns regarding what should they choose to do at X situation is prioritized badly.

    - Lack unique weapons. I have seen chainswords, never found a single one. If there would be an option to modify weapons with augments that would also be great.

Overall, I really like the game and I understand that this is still pretty much a post-Beta version, kinks and bugs are to be expected (I once got stuck in a roof with no way to fix it), however I'm absolutely positive that after these are fixed and new stuff will be added to the game, it will be really great.

Necromunda: Underhive Wars: Flashy gangs fighting for survival and treasure in the dark and dangerous underbelly of a large sci-fi city? ThisNecromunda: Underhive Wars: Flashy gangs fighting for survival and treasure in the dark and dangerous underbelly of a large sci-fi city? This sentiment drove many of us towards the original tabletop release of Necromunda, along with this re-release. But does the game’s first digital adaptation Necromunda: Underhive Wars meet expectations? In the grim darkness of the far future, there is not only Necromunda. The planet’s surface is dotted with Hives with humongous spire-cities, teeming with the masses that will never see the sky in their lives. The great houses that rule these megapoli can't fight directly, but in the darkness of the underhive, their associated gangs can do that however much they like. When a lightning strike reawakens some mysterious but without a doubt valuable piece of architect, Tessera and her gang of Escher ladies won't be the only ones going in. This serves as a story campaign which you're meant to finish before building your own gang and moving on to skirmish matches and operations which are rather painfully short and dry in my opinion.if you know anything at all about how tabletop Necromunda is played, throw it out of the window. Following the example of Mordheim: City of the Damned, Necromunda: Underhive Wars takes the concept of gang skirmishes, narrows it down until you only have five fighter per gang, and has them powered by mechanics that are light-years removed from anything you may find familiar. Only the essentials of alternating ganger activation remain the same. You pick a fighter to act, the enemy picks a fighter to act; Act, Die, Repeat. Gangers act once per turn, and once all of them have gone the turn advances and activations reset. But now, the fighter with the higher initiative score gets to act first, and you can't really know which of the gangers the opponent will choose. So now you have a minion so now what? Well, in Necromunda: Underhive Wars, each ganger has an Action Point (AP) pool and a Movement Point (MP) pool. The insanity of Mordheim: Movement bubbles has been replaced with a slightly less invasive system; your MP reserve is expressed as a circle around the character where they can move. Your points aren't subtracted from the total unless you perform an action or come under attack. Therefore, you can run around quite a bit. More than quite a lot, because the game doesn't track the real distance travelled only the straight line from the point of origin. Yes, even vertically. Just like in Mordheim, the models for the characters seem to be right, and the environments have markedly improved. However that's where it ends as the textures, the colors that wrap it all up just don't look that great. I have the feeling like I'm playing a game on low resolution settings which is also an issue I had with Mordheim. The cutscenes provide a huge contrast to all this, as they have better colors, better animation - better everything but in the end I don't feel it's enough to quantify the price of admission for this title on Xbox One. Not amazing not horrible, we will leave this as acceptable for those who may be a fan of the genre. Rogue Factory is learning from their mistakes, but It feels they're not learning fast enough to keep up with their releases. If you wanted fast and flashy battles in the crumbling domes of the underhive, you'll have to wait a bit more. For now there's a distinct lack of fit and finish. Expand

I confess that i dont usually review games (no reason other than its time that i would usually spend gaming).
But this ones really rubbed me up the wrong way because i love the tabletop game.

Graphics are fantastic. Gangs are great (although only 3). Environments look brilliant. Customisation is rich and looks top notch and true to the game.

But ..... goddam ..... iv never known a game be so un-fun before?!?!?? The boardgame is fast, frantic and exhilarating as your gangs develop their own story as every battle plays out.
This is so so so damn slow. Damage is low. Movement is too much. Traversing the environment is overwhelming.

I just dont know how they can patch in a fun-factor to this. A good start would be speed it up, cut the mini-breaks, increase damage, limit movement etc. It just feels rushed and hasnt run enough testing and tweaking.
Very difficult to recommend which is desperately disappointing for a boardgame that deserves better.
