A refreshing experience for those who wants a tactical game set in a well-polished universe with interesting scenario and well written characters. Sadly, the user interface is limited and the fights sometimes look a bit sloppy, lacking of clarity and balance.

Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is a clever take on the turn-based RPG, blending it with freeform exploration in a way that feels natural and satisfying. It’s unfortunate that the rest of the game can’t match the well-realized concept, giving off the sense of a great execution that wasn’t fully baked. For the genre, it’s a surprisingly bite-size experience that, while may not be the most friendly to newcomers, fans should definitely check out.

In terms of content the game has a decent amount for you to sink your teeth into and for the most part the content available to you is pretty varied. I really enjoyed the combat in the game because when in combat you’re given a good amount of freedom and this approach keeps things satisfying for longer. There’s a decent story that will keep you interested and entertained throughout your time with the game. While the combat has a decent amount of depth to it there isn’t a great a deal of variety when it comes to the weapons you can use. The world in which the game takes place is a little on the small side which means exploration is limited. Unfortunately the game is limited in several areas which means it does get repetitive quicker than it could have. I must admit that I didn’t know much about Mutant Year Zero before playing the game and that’s because it didn’t seem to be a game that had much information about it at hand for me to read. That being said I was still eager to get my hands on it because I was told it had an XCOM vibe dotted throughout it and without a doubt after playing it for a bit it became quite clear that it did follow XCOM in some areas. It's turn based strategy battle, so if you don't like that formula, this probably isn't for you. For me in terms of combat I actually enjoyed this game more because I was given quite a lot of freedom when in combat situations. Unfortunately though despite the depth present in the combat there isn’t a lot in terms of variety present in the weapons and skills and it is a little limited in other areas as well. Thankfully it isn’t limited in terms of the content though and there’s a decent story that accompanies the content as well which means it does keep things fresh and interesting that little bit longer. At the end of the day then while Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden isn’t as good as XCOM I still appreciate the effort that has gone into the game. I like that you can see the upgrades on your character and enjoy the overhead dungeon crawling view. Enough said, definitely a recommend and a thumbs up from me. Full Review »

Great turn based game with awesome humor. Only negative is that the game could be a little longer.
