In terms of content the game has a decent amount for you to sink your teeth into and for the most part the content available to you is pretty varied. I really enjoyed the combat in the game because when in combat you’re given a good amount of freedom and this approach keeps things satisfying for longer. There’s a decent story that will keep you interested and entertained throughout your time with the game. While the combat has a decent amount of depth to it there isn’t a great a deal of variety when it comes to the weapons you can use. The world in which the game takes place is a little on the small side which means exploration is limited. Unfortunately the game is limited in several areas which means it does get repetitive quicker than it could have. I must admit that I didn’t know much about Mutant Year Zero before playing the game and that’s because it didn’t seem to be a game that had much information about it at hand for me to read. That being said I was still eager to get my hands on it because I was told it had an XCOM vibe dotted throughout it and without a doubt after playing it for a bit it became quite clear that it did follow XCOM in some areas. It's turn based strategy battle, so if you don't like that formula, this probably isn't for you. For me in terms of combat I actually enjoyed this game more because I was given quite a lot of freedom when in combat situations. Unfortunately though despite the depth present in the combat there isn’t a lot in terms of variety present in the weapons and skills and it is a little limited in other areas as well. Thankfully it isn’t limited in terms of the content though and there’s a decent story that accompanies the content as well which means it does keep things fresh and interesting that little bit longer. At the end of the day then while Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden isn’t as good as XCOM I still appreciate the effort that has gone into the game. I like that you can see the upgrades on your character and enjoy the overhead dungeon crawling view. Enough said, definitely a recommend and a thumbs up from me. Expand

Ok, so I had a few Crashes.. it's "hard".. but you have to stop and pay attention.. not stupid hard. Game Pass winning title.. period. The Art design is quite fantastic, Curious how the next chapters will look.

It's an alright turn based game similar to XCOM, but lacks the tactics XCOM brings to the table in my opinion. Visuals are good, but not long enough to deserve the £29.99 price tag. Funny jokes

    Negatives:
Doesn't utilise the tactics side good enough
    Boring after awhile

Mutant Year Zero is an incredible and compelling game for anyone who enjoys XCOM. The game improved some mechanics in relation to XCOM, especially the map's exploration.

Game plays smoothly and is genuinely fun to play.

Sadly the game difficulty seems to ramp up incredibly quickly, seeing you face enemies superior in number and seemingly strength (need several successful shots to take one level 10 enemy down), with reinforcements easily summoned by the "shamans" and "medi bots" that will quickly revive those enemies you do take down.

I have only tried one playthrough so far, on "normal" difficulty (the easiest setting possible). Will adjust my review and score if things change when I get the chance to attempt another playthrough.

Ultimately the problems with enemy difficulty makes the game fairly unplayable unless of course you are meant to avoid combat which seems difficult the way the maps are designed.

The game is currently available for free on the Xbox Game Pass so definitely worth checking out.

    - About 90% of the game was isolating enemies. Would of been nice if that was 50% and 50% were bigger fights where you had to cover and move more.

Every level is a puzzle, how to kill as much enemies as you can in stealth mode before main battle begin. It is also a good way to level up your team, upgrade your equimpment and prepare for every bigger challenge. Game is hard on the start, but later you gain control on everything, especially you can take the EXP for lonley maruders and grab scrap for upgrades also on the maps were enemies are still to strong. You can always come back later and better prepared.
I hope there will be a sequel with bigger budget, where story will be better presented (with some cutscenes for example) and there will be some interactions between those interesting characters. Then it can be a 10/10 game :)

In my opinion the game is fun and has compelling story. The art and atmosphere is quite nice. There are a few thing that i did find annoying. For example you can buy items, but are not able to sell the ones you are not using. The other thing was difficulty it a bit unbalance. The game is still fun and people should give it a shot if the like turn base tactical games.

    A solid 8/10.
Deducted from a 9/10 due to several bugs that I encountered, one causing me to restart the whole system. Might be patched now.
Otherwise the game is a joy if You like XCOM turned based games. It looks very good when it comes to the graphics, but lets be honest - the strength of this title is in the gameplay. Enemies are well balanced, and teammates diversified enough.

From an innovative way to incorporate on the fly tactical strategy into an action adventure game, to a simplistic yet robust upgrading system, Mutant Year Zero is one of the best experiences you can have on the Xbox platform. A few setbacks though can't diminish the tremendous amount of enjoyment I found trying one strategy, failing miserably, reloading the save, trying another strategy, failing miserably and repeating the process until I was successful. This feeling of accomplishment means that every battle of Mutant Year Zero means something, and thus a fantastic and challenging experience from start to end.
