Story mode is pretty cool, that gives it 2 points for me for 4 hours of gameplay. Which I think is great, but the multiplayer is horrible, the lag is so bad you cant play this game. Even with a great connection this game is unplayable online, for a story mode this short on playtime its not worth it. If multiplayer wasn't so bad it'd be a better score for me. But it's the worst experience I've had in an online game EVER. My connection is good at 20mbps down and 10mbps up. This is enough for 32 mans on any other game yet It's unplayable on a 1v1 match on this game. Don't buy this unless you intend to play offline only. Expand

Yet another disappointing game. Does not have classic characters like Liu Kang or Noob Saibot. DLC throughout, and a day 1 patch with a season pass. No reason to purchase this one. Also, this one is on Xbox One, which cannot handle HD graphics or 60 fps. Framerate drops throughout, low res textures, poor xbox live performance, etc.

    5/2/21-5/4/21 100% Story

I just recently watched the new Mortal Kombat movie and rembered how much I liked Mortal Kombat 4 way back on the N64. I found this game on sale for a bit cheaper than MK11, and I read that they kind of rebooted the series in MK9, so it seemed like a good place to start. The story is kind of Mortal Kombat: The New Generation. Beginning with a few flashbacks

Beginning with a few flashbacks to the defeat of Shinnok, but mostly a mission undertaken by the kids/nephews of famous MK characters (Cassie Cage, Jacqui Briggs, etc.)

Usually, the story made little sense and I found myself asking “who is this guy?” quite often. It's a very long road for a six hour story.

Each chapter has a different playable character go through four fights, two rounds each. Like all fighting games-the majority of the fights could have been avoided by talking and boil down to a misunderstanding.

I didn't really have any of the characters that I enjoyed more than the other. Everyone felt like they controlled about the same with some specific moves that were usually disappointing. It didn't help that I was playing on medium difficulty and getting the dickens kicked out of me for half the game.

MK has always been pretty gross on purpose, for people that like that sort of thing. And this one is no exception. All of the cinematic special moves should kill someone three or four times over, but they get right back up afterwards.

I'm also not a fan of trying to hit button combinations while being interrupted by the other fighter. That is right up there with having to be right on top of someone to hit anything other than the air. I was just smashing the buttons and spamming uppercuts to get through it. Not very fun!

As a huge fan of MK9, Injustice and fighting games in general, this game was a huge disappointment. The online lag has always been a problem for Netherrealm, even with MK9 and Injustice. The story was also way too predictable and cheesy for me. The different fighting styles are a gimmick and I don't think it has ever worked in a fighting game, even in the Street Fighter series which Ed Boon credits by saying they was where they got this idea from. All the unlocking of things in the tombstone area is frustrating after a while because you always have to start from the beginning and can't teleport or warp to where you want to go. I preordered this game digitally and haven't touched it after the first month. This game and almost every new-gen game has been a disappointment so far. This game is another game I wish I didn't preorder digitally because I will never get my money back. Expand

Mortal Kombat again, same pathetic and silly gameplay, average graphics and nothing special to see. These guys will never learn, they will just take money of fans.

Update: The Series X continues to crash on the Reptile quicktime event in front of the ship despite several re-installs. I thought it would work somehow like it used to with other crashes after re-installs and re-starts but it doesnt. A game whose story doesnt work on the Series X is a big nono. This is why I update my review to 1 star.

The game itself is great. Funny and entertaining

The game itself is great. Funny and entertaining campaign, good combat, great characters and lots of content. However, the game crashes on Xbox Series X during the widescreen quicktime events in the campaign. This is not acceptable. A look on WB game site blames the games installation, however, i reinstalled the game and the crashes still occur which result in a hard reboot of the console. This is not acceptable

Mortal Kombat X is a feature-packed experience that sets the bar high for content in fighters this gen. While it doesn't eclipse the previous Mortal Kombat's amount of content, it does surpass all of its other competitors.

In a world of 200 hour RPG epics, it’s nice to have something so focused on a core experience. There’s depth here for those seeking it, or you can just make visitors cringe by showing them all the bone-breakers and finishers. Look, Nanna, this guy gets his spine ripped out through his mouth.

Fantastically violent and built for online players and loners alike. [Issue#124, p.72]
