My real score is 8. I just wanted to balance out the idiot who gave a zero because it is on Xbox one. This is supposed to be a game review, not an Xbox vs ps4 review.

Anyway been playing through the story and it's been very enjoyable so far. A decent campaign with some cool sequences and fights. The game mechanics feel very tight and accurate and things seem balanced so far.

The game mechanics feel very tight and accurate and things seem balanced so far. Everything feels smooth apart from some slowdown at the end of a fight but I'm sure they will patch this.

The graphics are not amazing but they are decent and it looks vibrant and detailed.

My only issue is that the premium seems overpriced for jus 4 characters and some skins.

overall if you like fighting games and mortal kombat this is a solid game with lots of characters to try out.

This game is a prime example of why this is the Golden Age of Fighting Games! First off, the gameplay is excellent, by far the best part of the game. The game features some of the goriest fatalities in Mortal Kombat history! This is not at all a game for the faint hearted. If you have issues with blood, or the sound of bones breaking, this is probably not a game you should try.

Now, the story here may not be as good or as long as the story in Mortal Kombat IX, but it is still fun to play. My biggest concern with this game was the introduction of new characters. I was worried that they would replace the old ones and not be able to live up to the greats, such as Subzero, Scorpion, Johnny Cage, etc. Fortunately, the old characters are still here and will probably be with us for a long time. Some have aged, yes, but still here. The new characters are wonderful editions! Erron Black is probably my favorite of all the new ones, and the most fun to play as. Sadly, the game does not feature any maps with staged fatalities, babalities, friendships, etc. but it does add new finishing moves, probably the best one since the game was first created, called Quitalities, which occurs when a player quits in the middle of the game due to rage or whatever, the game officially ends, and as the victor, you are rewarded with a Quitality. Hilarious! There are some great new gamemodes, such as King of the Hill, that change to the entire gameplay experience. Krypt mode is as awesome addition, where you can spend in-game currency to unlock new fatalities, brutalities, costumes, etc.

Unfortunately, some of the best new characters, such as D'vorah and Ferra/Torr, are really hard to play as and win. Scorpion is an overpowered character, as is Erron Black, and it's frustrating to try and play against them with any other character. Also, while I like the idea of the new character variation system, which adds a variety of different gameplay methods with the same characters, it seems very unbalanced. Some of the characters, such as Cassie Cage and Jacqui Briggs only have one good variation to choose and fight as. This is disappointing, considering I was really hyped for this addition to the game. Also, I was disappointed by the serious lack a diverse set of maps. I suppose the Fighter genre has never had too many, but I wanted more considering this is the next generation. The maps only difference in terms of gameplay variety is the setting and the interactions, and some maps crossover the same interactions, like throwing a fire pyre from a brazier. There is little difference to mention, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's similar to the movement system in Black Ops 3 (Black Ops 2, but you can walk on walls!! Who cares!?) Regardless, it's a minor complaint that I hope Netherrealms and Warner Bros. will address in future titles.

Few things I would like for Netherrealms to add in the future, perhaps in upcoming DLCs, would be stage fatalities and more maps! Stage fatalities were a big part of MK9 that made the maps feel more diverse and unique. The interactions are a nice touch, but hardly worth mentioning, in my opinion.

The game still suffers from matchmaking connection issues that plagued MK9. I prefer playing splitscreen over online in any Mortal Kombat game, but I know people who love online matchmaking will be pissed off by the connection issues. Hopefully, this gets better in the future.

Lastly, I felt the faction system was very underdeveloped. You can choose between five factions, which have there own unique finishing moves, called Faction Kills, which you can unlock by winning battles against other players. Aside from this, that's about it. You may enter in Faction Wars, events that happen every so often, but winning battles for your faction doesn't reward you in any way.

Overall, Mortal Kombat is a very good game. One of the best this year, but that's not saying much. The past few years have been plagued with many disappointing titles. This one just manages to not do that.

    Gameplay = 9/10

    Story = 7/10

    Multiplayer = 7/10

Other (Graphics, Extras, Soundtrack, Voice Acting, etc.) = 8/10

    Overall = 8/10

Ridiculously fun! Much smarter, tighter combat system than ever before.

However, poor use of mocap, bad animations, weird textures, and broken online features mar the game thus far.

My full score would be a 7.6. Though that's closer to 8, the game just isn't an 8 for me.

I'm having a blast with it, nonetheless. Bring back Stryker!

Excelente jogo. Modo king of the hill muito bom.

Mortal Kombat X is, all in all, a nice game that definitely has a lot of strengths and some flaws. I'm quickly summing up my experience so far, 20+ hours in:

Pros: - Well-written, exciting story that entertains nicely for a few (short) hours - Motivating and addicting faction system where you also level up a faction rank and a rank for yourself - Daily challenges and Living Towers

    - Good training modes to practice thoroughly
    - Creative fatalities and brutalities
    - Nice sound and graphics

    Cons:
    - Quite frequent mini freezes on Xbox One... quite annoying.
    - Difficulty mode against AI seems poorly balanced; at one time Easy will actually be easy, at other times it will be more like a Medium... this changes totally random, often within a round.
    - Controls aren't responding very well to inputs, making it very difficult to pull off more complex combos
    - Not to be forgotten: The ridiculous prices for DLC. 30€ for a DLC with 4 characters... seriously? This is just outrageous.

Despite some of the flaws driving me mad at times I still recommend this game, though with the ridiculous DLC prices I would advise to wait for a Complete Edition and grab the game then. When you do, you are sure to have a fun experience, even if it's not always flawless.

Every bone crunch and disembowelment sounds and goods great thanks to 60FPS and a great audio. The 60 FPS may not seem like a bit deal but it helps extremely with hit boxes and how smooth the characters control. Most the characters are evenly matched with a few that stand out that could use some changes. Online matches sadly usually consist of Schorpion fights but if you know your character enough you can put up a fight.
The amount of characters they give you to choose from is quite nice as well, with the attention of quite a few new fighters and more in DLC on the way. The new characters breath some fresh air into the fights and have very original designs and fighting styles.
Story mode has a great plot to it and has you play through with multiple characters so you get to give them all a bit of a try. Now that's fun for the first bit but once you get to the more difficult fights and are stuck playing a character you may dislike or have trouble playing the game becomes extremely frustrating and not to fun. At least the towers from previous games are back so you can challenge yourself with your favorite character. The ability to unlock new Fatalities/Costumes/X-rays is also a great idea and kept me going back to spend my "Koins" on new stuff.
If you were a fan of the old MK games or have a next gen gen system and looking to beat up your friends, MKX is a great and fun way to do so.

I give this great game a 9 or 10 out of ten. The graphics are much better, of course since its next-gen, and NetherRealm took a risk in adding variations and new characters to the roster. The story is full of exciting fights between new and returning characters, including some from previous games like Baraka, Kabal, Sindel and some others. Some characters didn't make the cut at all like Jade, which is personally one of my favorite characters but that doesn't affect the score. The new characters really play a big part of the story, and i am glad they went with this risky idea.
The multiplayer ( Most of complaints) it was great, no opponent quit on me, or did the connection not work, but that is just a matter of having good internet. This game is a fast paced online matchmaking game, so of course its not going to work 100% using the cheapest internet. if you are using Mid-High quality service you should be fine. The multiplayer includes Unranked 1v1 matches, Ranked 1v1, King of the hill and a couple of other new features like Faction Wars. The Faction war is a weekly battle between five groups which you can join, (White Lotus, Special Forces, Black Dragon, Lin Kuei, Brotherhood of Shadow) and you help your team earn points by playing the game and completing side missions, and at the end of the week the team with the most points win prizes. This also include a new finishing move called Faction Kill, which is a special fatality from a character in your faction, for example if you join the Lin Kuei, your faction kill would be Smoke cutting the top of your head of. You can chose from 3-4 faction kills, and they can be done like fatalities. Another thing people were **** about is the fact that NetherRealm released the Kombat Pack for sale day-one, and that should be a problem since it is fully optional. What people are saying is basically give me the Kombat Pack for free with the game, or wait half a year to sell it, which is just stupid. The Kombat Pack is optional, and did NOT have to be included for free. The price is $29.99, and it is a good price considering all the content. It includes new skins like the Samurai pack, and 4 new characters which are Tremor, Tanya, Predator, and Jason Voorhees. The deal is very good.
Another reason for **** is that you can play the mobile version to unlock some costumes, and all I will say is if you don't want to play the mobile version, you don't have to, just don't whine about how you don't have the costumes unlocked. Other costumes can be unlocked in the krypt like the MK9 versions of the costumes, and some other cool stuff along with short puzzles to find, and unlock all the sections of the krypt.
Microtransactions are not really a problem for me, since again they are not required, and are mostly for casual gamers that don't remember the easy code for fatalities, or to buy out the krypt
Overall this game is the best of the series, and i hope NetherRealm Studios keeps up the fantastic work and create great games in the future.

Mortal Kombat X is truly an outstanding game! I just finished the 3+ hour story mode and it was both brutal & heart-warming. It was really nice seeing a new generation of fighters in the MKverse. I also adore the many father/son mom/daughter relationships in the story and how they fit so well with the script and dialogue. The gameplay is truly awesome that I as a person cannot describe it. The roster is well done with new & old qualities. The great thing here is that this game will never get old with the new content every 3 weeks Ed boon promised! Mostly skins but look we already have Klassic Sub Zero!
So with that being said 10 out of 10 for sure!

This sounded complicated when I first heard it. I was thinking wow, I need to memorize combos for 3 different fighting styles!! All it is is a few extra special moves, maybe a couple attacks. They aren't HUGE changes to the character where it feels like you're contolling someone else.

The fatalities, x rays, grabs, and just pure brutality is a step about the last mk..and I LOVE IT. Last night I was getting my butt kicked online but I was still having a great time watching raidens AMAZING Xray or cassie cages... ugh..you'll see. so brutal...

I'm already learning how to combo, the moves are very fun and interesting to learn. stringing moves together is just like the old game.

The game starts of by introducing you to the new faction wars mode in which you will be given 5 factions to choose from. Lin Kuei, Black Dragon, Brother Hood of Shadows, Special Forces and White Lotus. I chose the White Lotus, A secret organization with powerful martial artists formed by Raiden and Shaolin. Faction wars is an online experience in which everything you, do whether it is in the single player or multiplayer will earn you faction points, rewards and will improve your leader board position.

The first thing you will notice is how beautiful the graphics are. The fighters themselves look impressive while small touches such as the sweat, blood and the way they move makes the fighting feel real.

The varied of levels are done with a lot of care. Everything around you is moving. Each of the 13 levels is like a theme of its own such as the Kuatan Jungle and the refugee camp in which you fight as caged refuges helplessly watch.

You can use your environments to your advantage such as throwing an innocent person at your opponent or using objects to jump to the other side. Getting to know each level will give you the advantage. Mortal Kombat X is filled with content. The single player includes the story mode, towers, single fight and test your luck mode.

Test your luck is one of the most entertaining challenge modes where 1 to 7 of the countless modifiers can be chosen such as dashing disabled, infinite timer, and lighting strike that will force you to use different strategies to beat your opponent. This mode is so exciting that I just came back for more because each fight felt different

The traditional towers are back; however, what I spent most of my time on was the living towers that are divided into 3 sub modes. Quick towers, is like the classic towers from previous Mortal Kombat games but with extra conditions that improve on the experience. These conditions are always updated, so each fight might have different conditions than the previous fight. Daily tower changes every 24 hours and offers new challenges and then there is the premier tower that offers the most challenging fights. I enjoyed playing the living tower mode because it added tons of reply value.

The Krypt mode makes a return. The more you fight the more koins you earn which allows you to unlock rewards and secrets.

When it comes down to the gameplay, Mortal Kombat X does a great job. I was impressed by how solid and deep the game mechanics are. You get to choose from 3 variations for each fighter. Each variation has different abilities and attacks. This helps in choosing the strategy you prefer depending on your opponent. For example, choosing Ninjutsu for Scorpion gives him deadly swords that he can use during battle.

You will fill up a super meter that is located on the bottom left every time you execute a normal attack or special moves on your opponent. The better you perform your combination the faster the bar will get filled. The first bar is the EX bar that allows you to do powerful moves when activated. Once the super meter is filled the X-ray becomes available. The X-ray is the strongest and most devastating move in the game.

Learning the different techniques during a fight is key because each move counts. Delaying your character to get up after a knockdown is a useful technique as it confuses your opponents timing.

There are also training rooms to do fatality practices and improve your skills. The controls are easy to pick up to perform all sorts of combinations and fatalities.

The story caught me by surprise it was like watching a big block buster that kept me entertained and wanting more the whole time.

The story spans 25 years following the last game and it is split into chapters that are filled with fights. Each chapter focuses on a single character. For example, chapter 1 focused on Johnny Cage, chapter 2 on Kotal Kahn and so on.

It was interesting to see how the story unfolded; you really get to learn more about the characters as you feel each one has a unique personality. The elders have lost power to Kotal Kahn and it is up to our heroes to take back control. During the journey, you will come across many characters from previous games and you will also be introduced to new ones as well.

The cut scenes are very good with many quick time events that allow you to interact with the game. The cut scenes were a bit long but I never felt it dragged on as they were entertaining. I was hoping that the main campaign would be longer as I completed it in only around 5 hours.

The roster features 25 old and new characters so far, each of them feels different with their own personalities. The new characters such as D’Vorah and Erron Black are great but my personal favorite was Ferra/Tor; 2 different characters but fight together during battle. Ferra is the small warrior who sits on the back of Torr, a beast who shows no mercy.

The fatalities are back and more blood and gory than ever. There is something special about performing a fatality, it just feels satisfying. There is a new easy fatality feature that allows players to do a fatality much easier.

With good soundtracks, and excellent gameplay Mortal Kombat X reminds us of what made the series so captivating in the first place. Whether you are a veteran or a new comer, Mortal Kombat X will give you a great time.

The story mode should always be considered a bonus in a fighting game as that is NOT when the genre is for, in the same way that many FPS games have short campaigns, this adds as a sweet addition to the epic multi player (or single player v AI) modes with a bucket load of options and customization's (the test your luck has over 100 game modifiers for some truly amusing and outlandish matches). I haven't played MK for many years but I have been looking forward to getting back in to it on the current gen. First impressions are it is what you would expect from MK - brutal. The X Ray moves are great to pull off as are the finishing moves.

To be honest, this is my first Mortal Kombat game, but I'm extremely impressed. The mechanics and controls are intuitive, easy to pick up, and they reward practice and experimentation. This is a very deep fighting game experience, with several different modes and character variations to mix things up. This is a must-own for any fighting game fans.

The reason why this game is a 9 is because there should have been more content at launch instead of holding so much back for the dlc. The dlc content coming looks great but that was a huge mistake because by the time the last dlc launches the game may not have a high replay value because many players may have already got their time and moneys worth. Story Mode: i found the story mode quite well done and enjoyable. not confusing and if you are new to the series you won't be scratching your head. my only complaint is the inclusion of QTEs but they are not consistent and don't take anything away from the experience. i recommend playing through it at least once.

Graphics: Graphics look really good and crisp. especially the background of stages. some character models are a little sketchy but not really noticeable. don't believe Sony fanboys because as far as i know the game on Xbox kept a solid 1080 and 30fps. it looks great either way. i love how the game looks very cinematic when an X-ray is done.

Audio: Every fatality sounds really sick and realistic and should promptly gross you out. the fighters witty and quite humorous dialogue is great. Johnny Cage's lame quips has never sounded better. i have my system hooked up to four speakers and it sounds awesome.

Gameplay: Mortal Kombat has never been a series that has easy gameplay and combos. fatalitys have always been tricky but the inclusion of easy fatalitys takes away some of the hassle. combos still require some memorization and fast fingers to pull off. I was playing on the Xbox controler and it felt great. the fighters are all pretty balanced and feel tight.

Replayability: After the story mode this game still offers a ton of things to do. single fight against A.I or take on friends and family with couch play. online had a shaky launch thanks to overloading of the servers but Ed Boon has said they are working on it. and the towers are back with multiply variations of gameplay. and the newly added factions are an interesting idea where you can join 5 different factions in a quest to be the top faction and defeat the forces of Outworld.

Closing thoughts: I see a bunch of people upset about the DLC and microtrasactions. now this is my personal opinion so don't get your feathes ruffled. i believe they are here to stay and for good reason. AAA gaming is not cheap to develop. more devs are looking for more ways to get extra funds to give us games we love. and if that means 30 extra bucks for costumes and characters i for one am fine with it.

Ending score: 10/10. A must play for fans of the series and fighting games alike. do yourselves a favor and get it.

    Pros:
    -Incredible fighting arenas
-Diverse array of characters with their own quirks
    -3 type variation works fantastically
    -Fatalities are brilliantly gory
-Controls are smooth (for the most part...)
    -Graphics improved
    -no lag
    -Variety of amazing gamemodes

    Cons:
-smidges of texture errors in fatalities
-some fatalities (such as ermacs) are difficult to carry out
-free fatalities should be permanently easy
-Jumpscares in krypt! (just me being a wimp, but there should be other ways in getting skins other than towers)

    LARGE CON:
If you have the Kombat Pack, it is a flat out lie. They say you gain early access to predator and jason etc.
whilst in reality you have to wait for them to come out in the coming months. Biggest con

Overall the sheer outweigh of the main game and it's brutal creativity piles over a fair dosing of issues to this game (majority can be fixed with patches in the future).

2 draw backs - the DLC is far too pricey for what you get and I find that once you move up the difficulty levels, the more spamming of moves the AI do. Word of advice - Use Cassie Cage on just about anyone. The girl is close to flawless as you can get :)

I went into MKX not expecting much in the way of a story, I was utterly astonished and impressed to be completely wrong. Within the first few moments, you are thrown into an action-packed cinematic experience that doesn't let up. The cinematics are peppered with just the right amount of QTE's to not be annoying and keep you on your toes during the sequences between fights which really gives the game a great flow. The story is told in a chapter type model with you playing through various chapters as different characters, this helps to keep the story from getting stale, It also means you get to see a lot of different perspectives as to what's happening around Earthrealm,Outworld and the Netherealm as well as various times throughout history, all in all it's a welcome surprise to a genre that usually lacks the basics of a good story.

Now on to the bread and butter of MKX, the Kombat (see what I did there) is to put it in delicate terms brutally beautiful. The X-ray moves are back and are more bone crushing than ever as are the fatalities which are often the most enjoyable part of a fight to watch whether you're the winner or loser. The combos are easy to grasp for any level of player but if you're looking to get serious you can delve deep into the more advanced combos.NetherRealm have brought back the discipline system where each character has three different disciplines that affect how the character plays quite drastically whether it be looks and a few special moves and stat changes it varies the gameplay so as to not make every match with/against the same character repetitive.

The old tower mode has been revamped and is now called "living towers" the difference being its constantly updated with your stats to leader boards on which you compete against friends in special limited time tower events or premier tower modes. Along with "living towers" are the other tower modes test your might which is a bit of fun to play with friends, but I don't really see much replayability here. Test your luck however, is hugely enjoyable whether solo or with a friend during Fights random modifiers are generated, such as double speed or invulnerability, which can make for some highly entertaining battle be it with friend or CPU.

As for what's going to keep you coming back..That would be the Krypt based on the same model as MK9 as in you walk through the Krypt first person unlocking tombstones that contain various rewards such as new concept art, costumes, Test Your Luck modifiers, Fatalities to name a few by spending Koins which are unlocked by doing pretty much anything in the game. There's also a few puzzles to solve and it's overall a pretty enjoyable portion of the game to keep coming back to.

NetherRealm have really shown what can be done with a fighting game on the current gen. A lot of the little things show how much effort they put into the game such as personnel player interactions between every character which was a nice touch and I would happily say MKX is the best mortal combat game yet and also the best fighting game to come out so far on this generation of console although there were some frame rate drops during cutscenes and I can't exactly say the graphics are cutting edge neither of those things detriment from the game. If you're even mildly intrigued in the MK series or were a fan of Injustice: Gods among us then I highly recommend picking this one up. Hell, if you like fighting games especially ones where you can literally punch the balls off the other player I suggest you pick this up!

Yet another disappointing game. Does not have classic characters like Liu Kang or Noob Saibot. DLC throughout, and a day 1 patch with a season pass. No reason to purchase this one. Also, this one is on Xbox One, which cannot handle HD graphics or 60 fps. Framerate drops throughout, low res textures, poor xbox live performance, etc.

First of all, I want to talk about the voice actings (hah, get it?) that are marvelous. Very nice cast, very convincing, and the different effects used to create a true identity to each non-earthling character are well adjusted. Sound effects are all the more impressive, you'll love to hear bones being smashed, flesh being ripped, blood splattering and characters screaming their lungs off (literally). However, musics are way too discreet, you'll simply notice the different jingles when winning/losing a fight.

Graphically speaking, it is astonishing. I know... It is a fighting game, this is nothing compared to an open world game for example. But the universes are very well represented and somewhat lively. What impressed me the most is the skin texture given to each character, every close view of any character makes you feel like he is standing right in front of you.
And continuing about the graphics, I have to point out the fact that this game could be a movie masterpiece. All of its story mode is made like a film. The story is very well written and driven, the actors are playing their part brilliantly. The environments are incredibly well detailed.

Now some would say a two hours-long story is too short (and I agree with that if it was another genre in gaming), but hey, in my opinion, this suits it just fine. It is a fighting game, so having a long solo would not be an advantage, and there is a lot of other game modes to keep you entertained, that are the traditional towers and challenges.

Gameplay side, it is Mortal Kombat, a few 'k'ombos per character, sometimes sharing the same button combination, it is up to you not to get lost in it.

But, with all those compliments, why 8? Because its commercial plan is a shame. You are charged 70€ for 20 characters and 13 arenas, add 30€ for a season pass that includes four characters and some skins (not all of them, some of them, yes some skins packs are not included in the season pass). And the most bizarre thing is that some legacy characters appear and are fought in story mode ! They are in the game, but they are unplayable. This I cannot understand.
And the AI is... Random. I played through story mode on normal and sometimes, I got wasted like a doorstep carpet. The AI would block every hit I try, and then kombo the sh*t out of me ; and sometimes, full opposite, I roll over them and even get some flawless victories. I wouldn't have pointed that out if this problem was not already present in previous MKs...
Lastly, I want to point out the fact that the only way to achieve 100% is by going through the mobile companion app, unavailable on Windows Store. I do not want to buy a new smart phone just to go through a game, get this in your heads publishers.

So to sum it all up, this game is great, but unless you are a big fan of the series or fighting games in general, you can afford to wait for its price to drop. I would definitely recommend it only for the cinematic experience it provides, and because it is beautiful and very enjoyable in multiplayer.

Graphically, MK passes. There isn’t a whole lot going on, so it ought to look good. Rendering 2 characters assaulting each other isn’t as demanding as running 64 player matches, or fighting off dozens of undead with 4 friends. So yeah, MKX looks fine, but it doesn’t have an excuse not to. Developer NetherRealm once again uses the Unreal engine. Although visual fidelity is crisp, textures are glossy—like every surface is slick with water. The effect is cartoony. I blame this on Unreal engine. Although it’s superb, Unreal’s visual quirks are easily recognizable.

There are plenty of game modes. And the online options are robust. I enjoy practicing against live opponents online. There are lots of challenges for the completionists out there. However, the faction mode is one the most underwhelming online features. Players are forced to choose factions before starting the game. Players earn faction points for performing a variety of feats, including playing the campaign. The factions are at war, and the factions that earn the most points over certain periods win special bonuses. However, only 2 factions are popular. The others are sparsely populated. Since players can switch factions at only time, there is no incentive to play on the losing side and build it up.

The campaign is a bore to watch and not enjoyable to play. The story mimics martial arts B movies: High production values, lots of clichéd dialogue, and a corny plot. Despite plentiful weapons, everyone just slugs it out. It’s a fighting game after all. And like any B movie, the story is filled with loopholes and nonsensical moments. But it’s Mortal Kombat, so the story met expectations. But gameplay is frustrating. Foremost, MKX’s campaign is packed with QTE moments. Probably the most I’ve seen in any game. QTE’s are one of the most despised mechanics in gaming. Yet, NetherRealm shoves them down players’ throats with gusto.

Also, I don’t like how the playable characters are constantly switched out. NetherRealm set up the campaign so players could “test drive” the fighters. And this is its biggest drawback because everything is so formulaic and repetitive. Players watch a 5 minute video scene, then they execute 10 or more QTE’s, and finally they participate in a fight against 2 or 3 opponents with a new combatant. Rinse and repeat 20 times. I don’t care to test drive every fighter. NetherRealm would have better served players by tailoring the campaign around a group of fighters. So players could choose their champion and experience more individualized campaigns. This would’ve added replay value, especially for players new to MK who aren’t ready for multiplayer. Like COD, the campaign is ultimately shallow and tacked on and offers no real value. The absence of imaginative story telling in modern games is astounding.

Mechanics are precise, and slight mistakes are brutally punished. Within a few hours of play, I was reasonably familiar with a few characters and won some matches against MK veterans. Combos require extreme precision, so players should take advantage of the practice mode. The online practice mode versus live opponents is particularly fun. However, the tutorial is worthless.

MKX has glaring flaws. First is the faction mode, which I’ve already discussed. Second are the finishers/X-rays. The X-rays are recycled among the characters, so there is little variation. They get downright boring after a few rounds. I was surprised by the lack of creativity and blatant copy/paste move sets. Third, there are only a few stages. The absence of character specific stages is astounding since this was the norm in older, classic fighters.

Ranged attack spam is just damn annoying. It's rampant. So get used to it.

Lag is crippling, even among players with solid connections. The game will freeze, frames drop, combos don’t execute, can’t throw opponents, and the list goes on. MKX is another example of developers/publishers spewing out bargain bin connectivity.
Playing offline is a crippling challenge. The AI is relatively easy at the lowest difficulty. But increase it a level or 2 and MKX becomes a royal ass whooping. There is nothing subtle or fair about how each difficulty increase radically widens the challenge gap. I would compare it to Ninja Gaiden. Couple that with the lackluster campaign and there isn’t much incentive for players to invest in solo play.

MKX is a game for MK fans. Single player is lacking, and MKX’s horrendous lag diminishes its multiplayer component. Hardcore fans will endure it, but casuals will make an early exit. MKX proves that the franchise is still valuable, but ultimately it does nothing to push fighting games forward. The developers lack imagination and didn’t refine the aspects that have the largest impacts.

Parece o killer instinct do xbox one.

This game has nostalgia and took me back some 15 years, but that aside I didn't get a whole lot of enjoyment out of it. The only thing that bugs me about this game is the BS DLC. Easy fatalities from $5-$30? Unlock all in the Krypt for $20? Sub-Zero skin for $2.99?

Another thing that bugs me slightly is the story. It was short, and didn't do much in terms of continuing MK9's phenomenal story. All the story is really doing is showcasing the new characters, and barely being the story sequel to MK9.

Apart from that, the game itself is by arguably the best console arcade fighting game yet.

    I give MKX a 8.8/10. Would've been a solid 9.5/10 if it didn't f*** up in those categories.

The moves are quite simply the easiest to master in any fighting game I've ever played, the fatalities are mostly original, darkly humorous, and easy to perform, and the controls are solid. When paired with the online choices (towers, king of the hill, team battles, etc), there was so much to do. The story mode was nice, but not the highlight of my game time (I played through it twice quickly, usually skipping a lot of the cut scenes to get to the fights - eventually I will watch them all the way through).

All in all, the game is a good purchase, and with the weekly faction wars, the game gives you more reason to come back to it over and over as the days go on.

A solid entry in to the MK universe, any fan of the series or of fighting games in general should definitely have this in their library, great story mode, classic tower modes, and a great online experience, if you played MK9 it won't blow you away, but it is definitely another step up.

The game is extremely gore and the cinematics are just awesome. On the negative side, the story mode is very short, there isn't a lot of maps, there is a lot of very cool things in the game that you have to pay for to enjoy like the Jason character (5$) and you can let money do all of the work for you, for 29,99$, you can unlock the entire Krypt, which would be countless hours of work to fully unlock without the micro-transaction. I've been a fan since the original Arcade MK, I've played every single one minus Shalon Monks. I went in thinking this game was going to be just as good if not better than MK9 which was beyond my expectations. Unfortunately, X did not deliver IMHO.

I really wanted to like this game, I DID! I saw Kotal Kohan, Cassie, and all the new characters thinking this was going to be a game rich with content and story and re-playable game play and MP. I think it delivered half of that.

    -Pros-
    Graphics, super sharp, beautiful
Fighting styles, I love variety of playing different variations of your favorite character
Ultra Gory Fatalities (The wife hates it when I do them)
Multiplier very competitive if you like MP for fighting games
Bring back the old fighting towers, hit us with a bit of nostalgia there.
The Krypt, filled with mini games, different places to see, items and puzzles.

    -Cons-
    THE STORY (mini rant approaching)
In MK 9, they gave us hrs and hrs of story and creatively hit the reset button on the MK universe while giving us a chance to play each character. MKX gives us 1990s Power Ranger-esk dialog and politics, extremely poor character development, explanations are null on plenty, and instead of giving us stories to their new characters, they just threw them in there, for all I know they are just minions, Screw origins or background. Also you can beat the game's story in about 2-3 hrs, and Shinnok as the main bad guy is a joke. Oh well,

-Faction Wars- I originally thought this would be cool, but it's lack luster and tends to be one sided

-Unlockables- The costumes are cool, but I was hoping to unlock Rain, Noob, or anyone, but I guess I have to but the Kombat pack already.

-Random Endings- The older MK endings left you wondering, some gave you closure, some gave you happy/unhappy endings, but most of these I found scratching my head. BUT some are pretty cool, I like what they did with Raidan and Scorpion

Kontent - I don't think they meant for a komplete game, there are so many holes and unexplained.....Please Pay $30 to finish this review

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Story Mode: Netherealm has once again created an awesome story experience. Rendered cutscenes seamlessly turn into matches, which is something I've never seen before. The story is engaging, and has a good ending. The focus has shifted from Liu Kang to the Cage family, which is a nice change of pace. I was impressed by how much kombat there was in the cut scenes, its an action packed cinematic experience that would rival a production value film. The story experience is the same as MK9, where you get to play as a number of characters throughout the story. The game is worth buying for the story alone.
New Characters: I have put in hours trying out all the new characters. In total there are 8. Here is the rundown. Kotal Kahn, the brother of Shao Khan and ruler of outworld. D'vorah, the insect queen that serves Kotal Kahn as a bodyguard. Erron Black, the gunslinger from Earthrealm that acts as a mercenary for Kotal Kahn. Ferra Torr, large brute that Kotal Kahn controls. Cassie Cage, child of Sonja Blade and Johnny Cage. Jacqui Briggs, daughter of Jax. Kung Jin, cousin of Kung Lao. Takeda, son of Kenshi, pupil of Scorpion.

The strongest of these new characters is between Cassie Cage and Kung Jin. The most fun to play with is the gunslinger Erron Black. Despite adding new characters, the strongest characters in the game are still in the classics. I currently main Mileena and Ermac, but I see a lot of Scorpion and Sub-Zero when I play online.

New Modes: There is a new element called Factions. The first time you boot up the game, you will be prompted to select a faction. There are random events that happen that will influence how well your faction does as a whole. Every player in the world is in a faction, so there is an ongoing battle between your faction and the rest of the world which is a cool element. You can enter new modes called faction towers and defeat faction bosses to increase the standing of your faction. When playing online against a rival faction, the faction fatality is enabled. These are unique for each faction. For example, my Lin Kuei fatality allows for Smoke to come out of nowhere and finish off my opponent with a fatality. Winning 5,000 koins or so for winning a week long faction battle though, doesn't really feel rewarding. I typically don't participate much in faction related battles.

Variations: The variations are a great addition to the game. I've spent hours trying to figure out which character I like best, then finding which variation suits me best. It's very time consuming but fulfilling at the same time. You can play with the same character in multiple ways and it keeps the game feeling fresh. When you first start the game, it feels overwhelming to have all these options, but at the same time it feels like there is so much to do. Characters are easy to grasp but difficult to master, which makes for a great fighting game.
Online: I have only participated in 1v1 versus and ranked matches. I've noticed most of the players I play against have yellow or red ping values. I'm not sure if the people that buy this game have crappy connections or the WB servers Netherealm utilizes are only in select locations. This does effect matches online which can be annoying. I'd rather have matchmaking find me someone with a closer ping value to reduce lag. Even though Netheralm has done a good job creating a balanced roster, most of my opponents consist of Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Cassie Cage, and Kung Jin. I main Mileena, so this is good for me. I pulled a 13 game winning streak the other night because I'm getting used to playing against these characters. I did not have this experience when playing Injustice, and I have played 800 ranked matches in that game.

Conclusion: The best part about this game is that no character feels more powerful than any other. I feel like if I put the time in, I could be great with any character. Mileena just tends to suit my style and I like her attitude. If you like fighting games, this is a must buy. After the story mode, head to training, find your character, then tackle players online. The game has consumed hours of my life and will for a while.

That said the story plays likes a beautiful CGI 4 hour movie, so stop whining about that!
The sound is epic: bone crunches and blood splatter are sickeningly visceral as are the X ray attacks and fatalities. Overall a very fun over the top infinitely repayable fan favourite in the fighting series. Even if you are not a fan of the genre (which I am not) it is a quality purchase - 9/10

The story is kind of Mortal Kombat: The New Generation. Beginning with a few flashbacks to the defeat of Shinnok, but mostly a mission undertaken by the kids/nephews of famous MK characters (Cassie Cage, Jacqui Briggs, etc.)

Usually, the story made little sense and I found myself asking “who is this guy?” quite often. It's a very long road for a six hour story.

Each chapter has a different playable character go through four fights, two rounds each. Like all fighting games-the majority of the fights could have been avoided by talking and boil down to a misunderstanding.

I didn't really have any of the characters that I enjoyed more than the other. Everyone felt like they controlled about the same with some specific moves that were usually disappointing. It didn't help that I was playing on medium difficulty and getting the dickens kicked out of me for half the game.

MK has always been pretty gross on purpose, for people that like that sort of thing. And this one is no exception. All of the cinematic special moves should kill someone three or four times over, but they get right back up afterwards.

I'm also not a fan of trying to hit button combinations while being interrupted by the other fighter. That is right up there with having to be right on top of someone to hit anything other than the air. I was just smashing the buttons and spamming uppercuts to get through it. Not very fun!

    I enjoyed the story.

Some frustrating fights really taught me the use of blocking in a fighting game.

The cut scene cgi hasn't aged very well and it's not really that old.

I can't find any legitimate review that justifies a 7 out of 10. It deserves more than that, easily. It's not a 10, but it's high enough to be good. The gameplay is good enough for a fighting game, the campaign is good, but not as good as MK9 or Injustice. The faction seems a bit wasted, but the invasions are very fun. I'm really just waiting for Jason Voorhees and Predator.

The answer is an unequivocal bloody yes, smoother combat, beautiful graphics, brutal finishing moves! Check, Check and Check.

If you liked MK9 you will love this game, if you didn’t like it this may still struggle to win you over.

Its far better looking and has smoother combat and a lot more choice (3 fighting styles per character) but it still plays like an MK game. So its a little slower and more deliberate then a lot of fighters, there is a lot of complexity to mine and it easy to pick up but hard to master.

The story Mode is good, the 1 player options are varied and work well and there is plenty of multiplayer options with a decent net code to boot.

If you Liked any previous mortal kombat games especially the last one then this is a (bloody) no brainer.

If you didn’t like it then this is unlikely to win you over as it plays very much like MK9 but just with smoother animations and a cleaner overall feeling when your fighting.

the variations on each fighter give a lot of extra depth but it still feels and plays like a suped up (seriously suped up) MK9.

    Which is fine by me!!!

All the unlocking of things in the tombstone area is frustrating after a while because you always have to start from the beginning and can't teleport or warp to where you want to go. -Story mode is good but doesn't do a very good representation of the older characters, most of which are old and some even have older uniforms despite being dead (Lui Kang, Kung Lao). Story mode also suffers a bit from making certain characters Mary-suish.
-The roster is mixed for some of the characters. I mean you get Ferra/Torr etc, who let's face it nobody want to play as. Without Shao Kahn there is also a lack of decent villians.
    - The different styles for each character are extremely annoying as most of them have moves whcih should be avaliable to all 3 etc.

It's not a replacement for the superior gameplay of the Street Fighter series, but it's as good as Mortal Kombat has ever been. Unlike MK9, MKX actually plays smoothly, has more ACTUAL combos and retains a surprisingly decent story mode. Still, pick up USF4 instead if you want pure fighting.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have never really sat down with a fighting game until MKX. The game was fun at first, getting to beat up random characters. Then the gameplay began to sink in and I really got to see what was underneath, like lifting up a Super Mario bandaid to see the scab underneath it. Most of the new characters were the offspring of other characters, like Johnny Cage's Cassie Cage and Jax's Jacqui Briggs. These characters never really compelled me to play as them because they were just whiny versions of their infinitely more interesting parents. There are now X-Ray moves, which they might as well rename the "Instant Win" button, taking all the challenge out of the fight. Fatalities also got dampened when the pause menu pretty much gives you the directions on how to do it, and it gets boring after the first 500 times. If just pausing the game is too much work for you, there are now fatality tokens you can buy that allow you to just press one button instead of having to put in the entire sequence, which puts this game in the running for the "Skrillex's Line of Work" award for least amount of effort put into anything. Overall, this game has as much of a chance of getting the game of the year from me as Adam Sandler getting his Oscar cabinet back from the repo men since it hasn't been used in eons. Expand

I love Mortal Kombat X. I wasn’t even that upset when I had to pay extra for special characters I wanted. This game is suitable for any group of friends, although it is rated M, for mature, and can be gruesome, so I wouldn’t let young kids play. Here’s what I have found during my gameplay:

Graphics: MXK provides us with more background and living environment to utilize and enjoy. It’s hard to compare the graphics, because we can only compare to the last game. Obviously, it is expected that the graphics will be better for the next generation game, and they came through.

Story Mode: With the new generation of fighters, we are given a fairly exciting story mode and interesting Klassic Tower endings for each character.

Multiplayer: Although you can no longer tag-team, MKX still offers some of the best multi-player fights. Online you can fight with players from everywhere. Online you can play King of the Hill where the winner of each fight plays the next opponent in the room.

Characters: With an ample selection of fighters to choose from, you are sure to find the perfect one to fight your friends and foes. The fatalities and brutalities are more gruesome than they’ve ever been. Each character has three different variations you can pick from, each will have the same basic moves but offer special moves unique to that variation.

What’s New: One of my favorite features in the new MKX is how much interaction there is with the environment: swinging from vines, jumping off walls, and using bodies as projectiles for example. With the next generation of Mortal Kombat, Factions have been added for online play, which gives players something to work for collectively. You can now play Living Towers, similar to the Klassic Tower, but is constantly changing and offering new challenges.

In conclusion, I rate this game 10/10. NeatherRealm has provided its customers with the always gruesome, gory, and addicting Mortal Kombat series for 23 years and continues to “wow” me! It is a must buy for any gamer, whether they be a veteran or a first-timer.

Other than that, the game is my favorite head to head fighter in quite some time. Expand

NetherRealm have found their true calling with Mortal Kombat X. The most definitive Mortal Kombat game yet, expansive roster, variation system, most elaborate fighting system thus far for the series. Without a doubt MKX is the ultimate fighting game of this new generation! A true gem in the arena of fighting games, shining star on the Xbox One platform!

Plantilla un poco corta para la cantidad de luchadores que tiene la saga. Muy buen sistema de combate. 3 tipos diferente de cada jugador. Los combos no son tan complicados, buen online. Aunque tiene demasiados DLC.

The online is fun as well, with plenty of private and public options. I especially like the faction system, where you join a group to level it up and can participate in timed events. You earn Xp for the faction in single player as well, and there are also faction fatalities to unlock.

The krypt is where one will unlock all of there content, and there are loads of stuff to explore. It will take one quite a while to unlock everything, leaving a nice carrot on a stick for the player.

Overall, this is a great game. While the story is a bit short and there could be a few more characters (there are three in the story that I think should have been in, including rain), it is very fun and definitely worth the money.

A very large visual jump from MKIX to MKX.
Story well told and fresh. The change of protagonists admitted that it is risky, but it was also a success. Personally I was already tired of Liu, Cage, Sonya and the rest. Putting the descendants is a breath of fresh air.

The gameplay is very good, the movements feel very agile and fast.
In general a very good game.

MKX is a worthy successor to the fantastic MK9. It introduces new characters to care about (mostly...) and also presents an interesting story mode to boot. The gameplay is well refined, though still not as deep as some may prefer, and the introduction of the 3 variations per character is fantastic. X rays moves are still a brutal delight and online is seemingly improved as well.

The only thing that keeps this addition to the franchise lower than MK9 in my opinion is that although the story mode is once again a good addition, it is the weakest in the netherealm collection of fighting games. The new characters and DLC additions are also questionable as some like Takeda are fantastic while others like Kung Jin feel uninspired. The DLC additions are getting a bit out of hand as well (why do we need Leatherface? Give me another MK character please).

Overall, if you are a fighting game/MK fan such as myself, you will be hard pressed to find too much to dislike here. The overall package is well presented and packed with content, it's just a little slight in terms of story and character selection this time around...

one of the best fighting games with a short story mode but pretty good and that teaches you to fight with enough characters. the big problem of this game is the dlc of the characters that I do not quite look good to force you to pay to have them that's why I lower the note but as a fighting game is the best I've played

Thanks to Smash Brothers, I got really excited about Beat em Ups again and used my Gamepass subscription to download Mortal Kombat X. Had already played the Injustice series for the release and Injustice 2 was terrific. But now to the story mode and gameplay of Mortal Kombat X:

    Story:

I liked it very much, the atmosphere and staging are just great at Netherrealm, which I found strong with Injustice 2. The many cut scenes and the presentation in general have meanwhile become a must have for me. Any graphics or the like are simply no longer enough and are strong points of criticism for me.

What I didn't like that much was that I often had smaller and larger FPS lags in the quick time events and sometimes the sound dragged or jumped completely overboard. The quick-time events themselves (I'm not a fan of them) have integrated themselves quite well into the cutscenes and I also mean the X-Power bar at the beginning of a fight, the better you have finished.

    Gameplay:

I'm not a veteran when it comes to beat em ups, but the controls were almost no problem for me and felt very good. Especially since I've played Injustice 2 for a long time before, all of this was of course hardly a problem, as it is logically similar. Fatalities and Brutalities or whatever they are called, as well as the X-Moves live up to their names and are very intense, typical for Mortal Kombat.

But I found fatalities and especially brutalities sometimes quite difficult and had the feeling that the controls are not that clean.

    Conclusion:

A great brawler, but personally I like Injustice 2 better. The comic book setting is just my thing.

Update: The Series X continues to crash on the Reptile quicktime event in front of the ship despite several re-installs. I thought it would work somehow like it used to with other crashes after re-installs and re-starts but it doesnt. A game whose story doesnt work on the Series X is a big nono. This is why I update my review to 1 star.

The game itself is great. Funny and entertaining

The game itself is great. Funny and entertaining campaign, good combat, great characters and lots of content. However, the game crashes on Xbox Series X during the widescreen quicktime events in the campaign. This is not acceptable. A look on WB game site blames the games installation, however, i reinstalled the game and the crashes still occur which result in a hard reboot of the console. This is not acceptable
