The game is one of those that is fun for the first half, and then at one point becomes such a chore in repeating the same spot over and over and over and over again.
Towards the end of the 3rd chapter (out of 4 chapters), there is what you would call a "boss" encounter with an octopus man. The timing is ridiculous and even with perfect timing the responsiveness is only about 95%

Prior to that segment, I would have rated the game a solid 7.5 to 8.0. The premise is interesting, the graphics are very pleasing, the gameplay is above average with that 95% responsiveness, and the puzzles are fun but not insanely difficult to figure out.

This one boss encounter ruins the entire experience. After 37 tries, it was time to make the decision to uninstall it from my Xbox. I mostly come into Metacritic to complain about games that I have bad experiences with. It allows me to vent.
Please understand that i do not mind a challenging game,.....but stupidity in programming infuriates me. I game to have fun. Repeating the same impossible boss encounter 30+ times is not fun.
Maybe next game Nowhere Studios. Please focus on quality control throughout the ENTIRE game.

While I enjoyed the game from an aesthetics perspective, I wish that the controls were tighter and the puzzles more challenging.

Monochroma can proudly hold its metaphorical head high among other classy 2D puzzle-platformers. This is a game whose developers extensively studied the greats of the genre, and obviously understand what they did right. While it may not bring anything particularly new to the table, Monochroma is a beautifully executed adventure that kept me enthralled all the way from the promising opening to the slightly annoying finale.

It’s a shame that Monochroma ended up this way, as there are sparks of brilliance buried within. There is a real quality to the sound and level design, which really add to the atmosphere and the puzzles could have been challenging with a little extra work. But the poor controls and the frequent frame-rate issues hamper this puzzle platformer. If you liked Limbo, do yourself a favor and go and download Inside instead.
