This game suffers from what seems to be a growing trend among new games. It just wasn't ready when released. It's very buggy. 1. Sometimes if you die, the game cannot load you back in. I actually have to reboot the xbox in order for the game to work again and it usually puts me at an old save point. I tried to combat this with saving the game myself, but to no avail. 2. I actually have to reboot the xbox in order for the game to work again and it usually puts me at an old save point. I tried to combat this with saving the game myself, but to no avail. 2. The camera angles are the worst. When driving and it's a MAJOR portion of the game, the camera has a mind of it's own. When you need to look forward, the camera thinks you need to look at the left rear corner panel or off to the side somewhere. This also applies to hand to hand combat. You lose sight of some enemies, only to be blindsided by a sucker punch from an enemy you cannot see 3. Cars just disappear. You need to take enemy cars back to a safehouse to add them to your collection. I've left a car to drive another one and came back and it's gone. Where did it go? I also had one disappear on me while i was running to get into it. 4. Inconsistencies all around. Sometimes Max can fall off a significant mountain top and just tumble and roll with no death, other times Max can fall off a 6ft ledge onto soft desert sand and be dead. 5. Repetitive. Same tasks over and over drive here, get this, pick up scrap, race and repeat. Dialog is also repetitive..everytime Max gets out of the Magnum Opus, he has to tell Chumbucket to stay with the car. And why do we fear the mighty duster so much? It does NOTHING. 6. Archangels. The serve absolutely NO purpose. You can pick your own car body and with scrap and leveling up, can make your car better, faster and stronger than any stupid Archangel. Rage was so much better, which this game sort of reminds me of. Buy this game only if you're bored and inbetween games. Expand

Imagine trying to race when the camera angle suddenly switches to looking behind you, or to the side - not helpful.

Driving is really the main part of this game and they've totally messed it up - not only are you fighting the cars delay in responding to your input, but you're also fighting trying to keep the camera angle behind the car where it should be.

There needs to be an option to lock the camera angle.

As it stands its an incredibly frustrating affair.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is an actual tragedy. I'd rather **** in my hand and clap than give it the slightest bit of recognition or praise.
The game is based around the movie, which I don't like either, but I can actually see where people find their entertainment from that.
But the game is something special. If they changed the title to "Handy Manny's Apocalyptic Desert simulator" I'd understand, but no, it's literally a mechanic looking for bits of his car, fighting off a few gypos on the way in a sandbox. Then when all the gypos are dead in the sand box you're in, you get moved to a new one, with the same family of gypos, and the same missions.
I think its safe to say that the creator of the game ate a few shrooms and drove into a halting site, with the outcome being a few inbred nackers coming out and beating the ****e out of the car with their broken hurleys, and robbed the hubcaps off it aswell, so he had to look for the parts when he was sober. That's literally the game.
I fell sorry for the people that payed full price for it tbh but I bought Tererria and played it for 10 minutes so what do I know.
It feels like pissing out golf balls

    THIS GAME PUNISHES FUN.

You don't play Mad Max, you work for it. If you want to progress, you better get to work. You have to fight the exact same battles, take out the exact same cars over and over and over and over and over and over until the game tells you that you can go to the next, even more impossible area.

The point where I could not take it anymore is when the game told me I needed a "Faster Car"

And by that it ment I needed to DOWNGRADE my car to almost the starting vehicle and then go fight a near IMPOSSIBLE battle to get a PAINT JOB.

The skill required to get the paint job for that mission FAR outweighed the difficulty of the actual mission.

If your game makes it harder to GET TO the mission than to actually do it. GO BACK! DO IT AGAIN! YOU MADE THE GAME WRONG!

I can overlook the frame rate issues, the horrible characterization and the non-existent story but when a game just slams you into a brick wall for no reason.

Then you made a bad game.

The game is fun when you're driving and/or upgrading your car. However, the on foot sections are clunky. I can tolerate the need to hold buttons to perform just about any action, but it's mildly annoying. The combat is sluggish. Punch twice, then hit Y. Repeat until you beat everyone.

The worst part though is the game breaking glitches: There's a gate that didn't appear in my game

The worst part though is the game breaking glitches: There's a gate that didn't appear in my game (allowing me into an area way too soon, apparently). I explored areas before I was supposed to according to the story, and a story mission is completely broken (can't complete). After many hours in, my game is stuck and no further progress is possible. Not even possible to save the game after completing towers, etc.

Disappointing. I bought this game after seeing all the positive reviews and I'm left puzzled over why it's so highly rated.

Combat : combat is really fun and has loads of satisfying finishers, but IMO pressing the "counter" button should cancel your attacks and prioritise the counter (rather than your character ignoring the counter and proceeding with the attack) Story & environment

Story & environment : Both are as you'd expect. Neither blow you away but there's nothing to complain about really.

Customisation : The customisation is incredible, it's the main reason I bought the game. There are so many different perks/upgrades to work towards, for max, for strongholds and for your car.

Minesweeping : Yikes. Maybe I'm missing something but why on earth can't you clear mines in your own car. The minesweeping car is horrible to drive and you can't even fast travel with it.

Travel : I understand that being able to fast travel everywhere wouldn't fit with the game's theme but, for me, fast travel points were too sparse and travelling to missed objectives became really tedious.

Roads : I know some people would probably disagree with me on this but I didn't like that you slow down massively if you clip the "edge" of a "road". They're sandy paths and you can barely see where the road stops and the off-road begins.

In summary, there are a bunch of things that, although they're keeping with its theme, make the game tedious and uncomfortable to play.

There is a lot of holes in the logic and sense of the game as you are in a post apocalyptic scenario and you go around destroying oil pumps (which are, by essence, what's still keeping the cars and everything running...). You cannot climb, no really, you can't. There are only a few exceptional yellow marked places and stairs to which you can, but overall you can't jump. Somehow living to the end of times left you without a skill to climb stuff.

Frankly, the open world has a huge potential, the hunger and thirst could have been portrayed better than just filling your health as well as your car really only burning fuel once you start using side fire launchers..

This game also misses on an opportunity to provide a shop. Someone interested in selling stuff you can't or shouldn't find as often.

So, it has potential. But it feels like an unfinished game.

A spectacle to behold, but Mad Max's barren landscape is lacking the toys to stand up as a proper sandbox. [Nov 2015, p.68]

Not nearly as magnificent as the movie, and not as brilliant as Shadow of Mordor was when it came out, but Mad Max is still a fun (if somewhat repetitive) adventure in a post apocalyptic world filled with sand, blood and gasoline. There's nothing really innovative in the mix, but in the end it's way better than most movie based tie ins. More than enough for fans of Mad Max and videogames all over the world.

A solid sandbox adventure, lacking in the chaos and madness that the title and license would suggest.
