Little Nightmares is dark, eerie, startling, gross and sinister – all without resorting to M-rated content or a first-person camera. It's a great puzzle-platformer that is amazingly atmospheric, where the scariest parts are a fun gameplay experience rather than a game-halting fright. In many ways, it reminded me of Inside, but I have, to be honest: despite being a little more rough around the edges, I like Little Nightmares more.

Personally, I see myself revisiting this game down the line just to replay and enjoy it because it is that good. Seriously, I think this may be my new favourite horror game, beating out the classic Silent Hill 2. If you buy one horror game this year, make it Little Nightmares. You won’t regret it.

Little Nightmares is a well created, superbly executed affair. I’d prefer it to be longer and I have to admit to not only being disappointed, but also shocked, at its short length. In fact, unless you’re going back through things for a second, third or fourth time, just in order to pick up all the collectibles, then chances are you’ll be done with the five chapters and then everything Bandai Namco and the development team at Tarsier Studios have given you in no more than a few quick hours. I guess the price reflects that though and when something is so good, perhaps it’s best to keep it at an enjoyable length. If you’re after a tense game that will have you questioning every little moment from start to finish, then Little Nightmares is most definitely for you.

Little nightmares is a very good game. The story of Six is a quick one, but you gather everything you need to know as you move along in the game. Think you can brave your childhood fears? If so pick up Little Nightmares and learn about Six’s story.

Little Nightmares is a beautiful, clever, and at some points breathtaking game, that is only let down by a few minor frustrations.

Little Nightmares could be a horror tale created to scare a child. Given its unique atmosphere and design, I’m sure there will be plenty of adults who will have nightmares about this game. And that’s all I want in a horror game.

Like Hide and Seek, Little Nightmares confidently captures the exhilarating fear of waiting to be found by something that’s hunting you. But it also replicates the alien horror of being a child that doesn’t understand what’s happening to and around them, and of a seemingly familiar environment turned into a series of opportunities for safety and danger. Smart, grotesque and never-endingly weird, this is a very different, extremely welcome kind of horror game that left me wanting more than its brief five hours provides.
  8. The older I get, the more I want to play games like this. I doubt I’ll remember even the names of half the shooters and action games I play this year, but there are several arresting moments in Little Nightmares that I’m pretty sure are going to stick with me for years to come.

An anguishing adventure, making us feel like in a real nightmare thanks to great visual and audio design. It ends earlier than we'd wanted though, leaving us with more questions than answers.

A piece of art with a stendhalian beauty for those who love the horror genre. Much closer to Spirited Away than the burtonesque aesthetics, Little Nightmares is a terrifying experience that challenges our inner fears.

A carnival of grotesque and gothic fancies makes up for the finicky platforming. [July 2017, p.87]

Little Nightmares is based entirely on its visual appearance but at the same time it couldn't exist as anything else but a game. Unfortunately, it's the insecure practicalities of the gaming mechanics that somewhat detract from an otherwise sublime performance. Full of subdued innuendo, Little Nightmares is like a demented puppet show or diorama, somehow lifelike but at the same time disturbingly artificial. It certainly doesn't look like your typical game and is a nightmare worth experiencing.

In all seriousness, Little Nightmares does a fantastic job of pulling off “childish horror”. It strikes a good balance in introducing horror without ever being too scary; anyone who loves a little bit of the macabre without the intense dread of true terror will love this indie title. It is a bit on the short side, taking me only a little over four hours to beat – and that was with me getting stuck twice – but what it lacks in length in makes up for in brilliant content. If you enjoyed the likes of Limbo or Inside, you’ll be sure to fall in love with the world featured in Little Nightmares. With its brilliant setting, wonderfully whimsical characters and clever puzzles, it’s hard not to recommend it as yet another essential title from what’s shaping up to be an incredibly stellar year of gaming.

Little Nightmares is surreal, supernatural and odd, but it's great too, its ending equally weird and disturbing, the whole thing will leave an indelible mark on your brain. And that's exactly why you should get it bought.

At times mechanically clumsy, but artistically sound, Little Nightmares might get on your nerves every once in awhile, but its imagery will burrow into your brain and never leave.

In terms of gameplay, there's little to be had in the way of new ideas within Little Nightmares but it seems the main appeal was always intended to be the art and atmosphere; in those respects the game is a massive success.

Ultimately, Little Nightmares strikes a fine chord between charming and creepy in a way that perhaps only a former LittleBigPlanet developer could do.

Little Nightmares is an easy game to recommend to those who happen to be fans of games like LIMBO. That’s because not only is it scary, disturbing, and full of rich symbolism, but it’s also quite the experience, thanks to some great-looking visuals, excellent character design and some of the most unsettling music and sound effects that you’ll ever hear.

Little Nightmares is a freshly scary experience that feels like a gothic storybook come to life despite some technical hiccups and awkward controls.

While Little Nightmares might not scare your pants off, it will definitely get your heart racing. The game’s mix of incredible art design and enjoyable gameplay create a memorable game that gets better with each level. While Little Nightmares’ long load times will hopefully get patched out currently, they make exploring a lot less desirable. Puzzles in the game could be better, but its main gameplay elements come off very thrilling and fun.

Unique Burtonesque art direction could not avert my attention from the fact that Little Nightmares is one of the poorest platformers I’ve played in years. [07/2017, p.43]

I did expect to be entertained inWhen I first saw an achievement for completing the game in an hour I didn't expect it to be terribly long. I did expect to be entertained in that short time though... I was not. The game simply isn't challenging. The bulk of the game involves running away from someone/something with a few mundane jump puzzles thrown in. The game is no more "freaky/scarey" than the stop-motion flicks made by Tim Burton. There is no real story, not even a real driving factor to move your character to the left. After playing you are just left with the empty feeling of having wasted time and money. For those who enjoy dark/strange caricatures but aren't expecting much from a game, Little Nightmares might be a perfect addition to your game collection... but only after a deep, deep discount. This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. Here is my review of Little Nightmares (Spoilers):

Story - There is no story to this game, the player is just a child stuck on a boat that eats people to survive that's all. The child doesn't even reveal itself during the game and the players don't even know who this character is what's even going on. Even if this is a Kickstarter kind of game for new developers, that doesn't mean they can toss them as if people will instantly like it. Having the ending of the child eating the final boss after defeating her was a WTF moment when the child also gained god powers out of know where. Beating the game took almost 2 hours to complete.

Gameplay - Very confusing, but also keeps the player on alert. There are no tutorial prompts to help the player progress the game, but having the horror element to the game along with puzzle like platforms is very amusing and makes the player sharpen their mind, but it also gives the player a headache as the game gives them small to not much hints on what to do after completing one area of the game. Hiding from the boss/enemies in the game also bring the goosebumps like feelings to the game but gets annoying afterwards as the player is trying to figure out how to get out of the area with out having the enemies chasing them.

Graphics - Very well done, especially the lighting during gameplay. The visuals in the game were spot on as it gives a good environment of what the player is surrounded by.

Platform - Feels as though the game will give them a bad perception on where the player will place the child on. If the child can climb, can't he also shimmy to the side of the ledge as well to get up? Having it made 3D platform gives the player a confusing feel as to where they are going.

Conclusion - There is no story or tutorial prompts, gameplay is 50/50 but with little to no hints in the game, Graphic are well done and the platforms they created are not good. Little Nightmares is for gamers who are caring mostly for puzzle/platform games. Seeing how everyone else gave it an average of 8/10 fondles my head to know if they get how the story is portraying even though it gave no details whatsoever.

Final Verdict: 4 out of 10
Buy, No Buy or Rent - Not Buy, this game shouldn't need money for players to purchase if there is no storyline and confusing hints. Also giving players headaches during gameplay is not a good sign as well.

This is one of the most frustrating games I’ve ever played. Not worth the time in my opinion.
