Spider-man, Ant Man, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and the X-men are just some of the many, many heroes that you won’t see in Lego: Marvel Avengers. Hello everyone Brandon here, and I dove into the six hour campaign that was Lego: Marvel Avengers. Hello everyone Brandon here, and I dove into the six hour campaign that was Lego: Marvel Avengers. Now that is six hours of story not dicking around; just to be clear, but as a grown ass adult I don’t have time for collecting everything known to man. I’m getting ahead of myself. Let me dive into the story that makes this game…well exist really.
I would call it a cash grab, but there are no movies out for months. I want to say that this is them out of ideas. Lego Marvel Super Heroes was an amazing game with hour upon hours of content, and with an original story. This game however is just The Avenger movies in Lego form. Normally when they adapt these franchises into Lego games they have three movies so that they can have a nice 8-9 hour game. This has two movies and it feels drawn out because of it. If they would’ve done a phase 1 game and next year released a phase 2 game my ton would be very different. With just the Avengers you get limited heroes and only four villains which is a stretch honestly. Compared to Lego Marvel Super Heroes where they had every hero you could think of same with a rouges gallery of villains. This game is just lacking in comparison. I will say though playing through these movies is just a stupid amount of fun. Playing through the scenes and going, “oh I remember that line, or hey here comes when Hulk grabs Loki” is just a ton of fun. The downfall of this is about half way through the game you’ll be thinking on how bad you’d rather just watch the movies then play this game.
The game gets the feeling of the films down damn near exactly. They uses the same music cues when appropriate which just draws one. Of course being that it is a Lego game they have to make it cute and very, very family friendly. When showing how evil Loki is they have a scene where he is being just a dick to bunnies. They also have a very weird fascination with milkshakes. Seriously why milkshakes? Were they ever present in Avengers or even the MCU? I wouldn’t bring it up but this is a running gag that wasn’t funny or cute it was just off.
The gameplay is that of a Lego game. The new thing they added which was pretty cool was special moves that two characters can perform to kill off a group of enemies. An example of this is say you have Thor and Captain America when you press O Thor will electrify his hammer and his Cap’s shield creating an electric shockwave. These moves feel like they are right out of the movie and you get the team feel of the Avengers. The worst thing this game does is the filler gameplay. These are levels that only exist because they realized they only had a three hour game. They have a whole mission of when Agent Coulson talks to Tony Stark at the beginning of the Avengers. I seriously didn’t need a while 15 minutes of that one scene.
This game is a game that in this guy’s opinion did not need to exist at all. It is not a bad game it just feels like Travelers Tales isn’t really trying with this, or even putting that much into it. If this had more actual level like I said all of Phase 1 or something like that I would have a different tone. If you have a kid this is perfect because they will dive into this trying to 100% it. Plus most of their exposer is mostly the movies. As for you comic fans out there we have a better Lego game that is already out and cheaper. Honestly go buy Lego Marvel Super Heroes instead of this. I say barrow this game at best if you have a friend who has already purchased it, then just borrow it from them spend zero amount of money. I give this a generous 2.5/5.… Expand
