Homefront The Revolution is an open world first person shooter set in an alternate universe where north Korea establish control over the united states…
And as the name suggest, it’s up to you to spark a revolution in the city of Philadelphia
Despite this game technically being an open world, this unfortunately is actually a bunch of hub levels separated by travel points..
This is not one massive map...
And that’s a shame, because Deep Silver mistakenly decided to ditch the linear first person shooter style this game originally was to jump into the saturated market of open worlds,
And you’re going to jump into a saturated market, where 9/10 AAA games are unique or flat out copying ubisoft, you better make sure that your open world or ubisoft clone world is worth existing in…
    This one isn’t
There are 2 different zone types, a red and yellow.. red means anything goes..
yellow means there are civilians, and you need to be stealthy and destroy Korean property to get the citizens to up rise…
The yellow zone liberating is required for the story…
And the objective much like the rest of the game feels very copy and paste…
Even down to the location you need to get to in each zone…
You can tell the developers tried to mix things up.
    sarcasm.
It’s just an ugly, brown, lazy, boring and lifeless world with assassins creed style liberation points…
You can take control over vantage points in the city to unlock safe houses to respawn at if you die as well as shops to buy weapons and upgrade your gear…
    Weapon customization is pretty standard,
but you can equip scopes and modifications on the fly, turning your 3 weapons into 9
the weapons are easily the best part of the game...
Liberating the entire map will add about 8 hours to the 12 hour main campaign…
And this 12 hour campaign much like the world just feels lazy...
You feel like an errand boy rather than a hero…
You do fetch quests and baby sit.
And you get frustrated at the broken game not continuing a mission right, or hard crashing 10 times in a row or just due to the combat…
The combat in this game feels completely unsatisfying, and the difficulty of this survival open world feels frustrating even on the easiest difficulty thanks to an inefficient hit detection system…
you don’t feel wounded when you’re about to die which in a typical fps you would get an indication aside from a bloodied screen like a slowed character or limping effect as a cue to take cover and heal up…
nothing like that exists here, which will have you dying seemingly out of nowhere…
You also have to rely on med packs, which for some reason can’t be crafted while explosives can...
makes no sense and also frustrating since health does not replenish itself…
But if you’re not a fan of hard crashes or have just given up on the frustrating single player, you can play with a friend in resistance mode
which will be fun for like 5 minutes, you can customize your character with a variety of options like male or female until you’ve suffered long enough to unlock helmets to hide your generic face
There are 2 modes in resistance mode..
    Attack or defend...
The best part is, neither of these modes are competitive...
They are both 4 player co-op modes where you either defend a position from enemies or you invade to complete on objective...
of course either of these modes could turn into a killzone style competitive mode, but that would take too much effort.
    I give Homefront the Revolution
    a 5.5/10

There's no way this game is 1/10 as other people are saying. The title has this one annoying stuttering issue which only happens during loading missions. It's easily 7/10 from the few hours I've spent with it so far.

Besides Doom, Homefront The Revolution was the game I wanted to buy this month. However, after seeing the harsh reviews for it, especially Jim Sterling's extremely low score, I wasn't so sure anymore.

So, I decided to take a chance on Homefront The Revolution and I do not regret my purchase one bit.

This is a solid single player focused Far Cry/Crysis FPS that completely blows the original Homefront's short campaign out of the water.

Where's Doom is a fun rehash but lacks a good story, Homefront The Revolution creates a truly great fictional oppressive universe between its militarily occupied US setting and the beleaguered pro American patriotic resistance fighting to reclaim it. This is Metro 2033/Metro Last Light levels of brilliant atmosphere and FPS story telling.

The game is not perfect, definitely not game of the year, but when mediocre games like MGSV get 9-10/10 as well as bugg filled launchs like Skyrim or Fallout 4? I can no longer take "professional" game reviewers seriously anymore and got to trust my own instincts.

Is Homefront The Revolution worth a buy? I'd happily say yes, but if you're unsure? You can always: rent, wait for a used copy, or wait for a price drop. Price drops definitely happen a lot faster these days as Quantum Break already dropped $20 this week.

I like the open world aspect. The random event's are cool and though simple, give you something to do if you want between main and side missions. I like the weapon upgrade system. I like the weapons in general. Never gets old ragdolling an enemy with a crossbow. hehe.

I have yet to play any multiplayer, so I hope its good too. This was a game I was kinda wanting to get at release but held off due to the review embargo. Don't like that crap. But I dont think I would have felt bad paying $60 for it. I paid only $10 for a used copy on gamefly last week. So im thrilled with the value I got. I almost feel like selling it and paying for a new, but discounted copy so the developers get some cash for their effort. At $30 I think it's a good deal. At $10, id say grab it and at least give it a try, even if you dont think you'll care for it. You can tell they put a lot of effort into it.

This game is literally Far Cry 3 re-skinned to an urban/military theme. The running, shooting, and climbing mechanics, and the "stealth" and melee aspects are Exactly from Far Cry 3. They took an existing engine/game, added a new map, and new skins, and a new story.

Stealth is a joke. Enemies can see you through walls. Otherwise, if you liked Far Cry 3, maybe you'll like this. But

The Day One copy I played thanks to a Redbox rental had a noticeable stutter/hangup every time I used the resupply cabinet, and the collision detection for climbing is dodgy when it comes to unmarked ledges, both of which need fixing, along with the other issues I noticed during my seven hours of play.

Otherwise, Dambuster Studios took enough inspiration from FarCry and HItman to make skulking around Philly as a wanted man and active guerrilla working to take back his home click. Sneaking onto an enemy base, picking off enemies without making a sound, running for cover when spotted and using distractions all work as well as they did in FarCry, so old hats will recognize a lot of tactics in this game.

The story has a Red Dawn feel to it with how the Resistance takes shelter in familiar, once homely, places around the city, with the overall goal of finding the face of the revolution being what propells much of the Main Quest. The characters up to now seem like attempts to follow in the footsteps of Wolfenstein: The New Order, and in some ways, it works. Though the doctor is the most on edge, 'go easy on the fighting' character early on, and although I didn't get far beyond the first Goliath fight, I'm anticipating no future betrayal from him or any of my current allies.

What I love most about Homefront so far though: The weapons and how versatile each one can be.

Those familiar with Deus Ex: Mankind Divided's gameplay trailers up to now no doubt saw the on-the-fly weapon customization menu that game will have. The Revolution does the same, and two variants of each weapon besides the Rocket Launcher are available to buy, along with a collection of attachments for each weapon, which can also be hot swapped.

That said, because of the technical issues, be sure to rent this game before you buy it. If you can. Or wait for a sale at $40.

I don't care much about frame rate unless it really really hinders gameplay. The only "lag" I get is when the game autosaves and even then it's a very slight 1-2 seconds. Personally i LOVE this open world game and haven't had any issues through clearing the entire first area. I give this game 9/10 only because of the slight 2 second autosave lag. GREAT game IMHO!!

I rate Homefront an 8, and to help benchmark this I've rated similar games: MGSV a 9, Far Cry Four an 8, Far Cry Primal a 7.

    The Pro's
-Best urban, multiple-story open map I've played on
-Unique enemy behavior that presents a great single player challenge. Don't think you can go in guns a blazing to every scenario. Enemies can quickly overwhelm if not playing with a plan and knowing when to retreat
-Awesome new guns and customization. Truly innovative. Who doesn't love bombs are RC cars?
-Solid quantity of content. I can go hours without pursuing main missions because there are so many side conquests and territories to capture.

    Con's
-As lots of people have mentioned, the story line isn't great, but I hardly find most game story lines to be works of art. The game is fun to play, who cares what the cut scenes are about? Plus, MGSV is one of the best games I've played and I regarded that story line as disjointed and non nonsensical.
-Definitely a bit glitchy, but I haven't found it to disrupt gameplay. It reminds me a bit of Fallout where the glitches even add a bit of character and quirk to the game.
-Took a while to understand the best way to navigate the environment and how to adapt to the unique gunplay and enemy behavior. I can see why people might be turned off in the first experience, but I promise the investment gives returns if you can get familiar.

Most of that game play has been of the "follow me" variety to set up the narrative with no choice availble.

Movement: I have a topic about the poor movement system already posted, and I've finally figured out exactly how it feels. Have you ever played a PC game that didn't have a controller option available, so you used a program like Xpadder to map the keyboard to a controller? It's that bad. The controls make you feel like you're floating and unresponsive. It's, by far, the absolutely worst movement system I've played on a console.

Frame rate: The frame rate appears average to below average, but there are so many points where it lags for no reason, it feels like it's in an early alpha. Even when it's not in combat, the lag happens every minute or so, if not more. Something as simple as going through a window or around a corner causes it, and it's about 2-3 seconds of lag each time.

Save System: Remember the early 2000's when you restarted the checkpoint and had to go all the way back to the cut screen and watch it again? Welcome back. Instead of starting after the cut screen, the few times I've tied (mostly from getting annoyed at not knowing where to go and just running blindly until I was shot giving me a brief but sweet relief from the poor game play), it's put me back before the last cut screen to watch whatever short video led me to this point.

After about two hours of "playing" the game, I haven't done anything. The acting/voice acting is terrible. The plot is ridiculous and isn't even feasible. Without giving any spoilers away, it's like a ten year old thought of the plot and the developer ran with it, amazingly with no understanding of politics, weapons building and purchasing, and common sense.

I guess it's supposed to be an alternative time line as well considering the "history" of North Korea is incredibly different (and outpaces the technology of the rest of the world).

I really enjoyed the first game considering it flew under the radar when it was released. I had very high hopes this game would be good.

So far, this has been a bad purchase. Beware.

Now my malnourished fellow Americans are spray painting anti KPA slogans on structures, calling out the KPA, and starting a riot in the streets. These are the same people who were at their lowest 10 mins ago and questioned their existence. The area that was constantly being patrolled by armed KPA soldiers and tanks was empty of KPA forces because people started rioting and screaming. A world power was this easy to scare? Brilliant.

People giving this game more than 6 haven't played a lot of quality games I would reckon. Do me a favor: If you are interested in this concept, then go get Red Faction Guerrilla and The Saboteur instead. These games do the whole Guerrilla/revolutionary concept far better than this under cooked abomination and are far more interesting and fun to play. And despite having dated graphics, they are far more immersive in their setting and lore. I was going to give this a 6 but I will have to knock the score down to 3 due to glitches and unstable frame rate. And no, I didn't buy this game, I rented it.

But, even those are more polished and deliver a cheap thrill (which I admit take a guilty pleasure from but not from this game). If there ever is an sequel (which is unlikely) I hope that it will not suffer from the developmental problems this game had which results in its 5 out of 10 rating from me Expand

Ratatouille, The game, was a much more fun title than this. Enough said right there. It is full of bugs, terrible frame-rate, the combat is sloppy at best, hard to hit your target and the weapons are so nerfed, the enemies become bullet sponges. People struggling to find weaponry here? The only guns 30 years from now that citizens have are M-14's and M-16's and Remington shotguns with picatinny rails? A terrible hybrid of the Colt 1911/Beretta 92FS/M9 Hah! That couIdn't even happen in an alternate timeline. Wolfenstein was believable because the enemy actually came pretty close. I generally give all games a fair chance and I do beat them until the end of the game/storyline even if they suck. This one is absolutely the worst piece of crap I've ever played, it is unbelievably crap. It is a half-witted attempt at "Far Cry: Philadelphia" with maps so small relative to Far Cry games it'll make you cringe. Every single thing about this game was executed terribly. Regardless of whether it was in "Development Hell" (passed on between developers and delayed), it should not have been released in it's form. This is a Beta test game at most. If you are looking for a fun shooter or combat, you will absolutely not find it here, move on. There is a reason it is only $5 new on eBay. Sheesh. Expand

This is hands down the worst shooter I have ever played. Imagine if a game was a bad clone of Call of Duty, with a focus on stealth, and some of the worst feeling shooting since Turning Point. There is something very shady about the review and naractive around this game. I played the game again recently on Xbox 1 X with HDR and it looks stunning. then I dug out my old PS4 to see how buggy it was on release as I never remembered it being buggy. And playing the original disk on an OG Ps4 showed almost no bugs or performance issues just a stutter when loading new large areas. The graphics are decent, but the framerate needs serious work.

The sound design and soundtrack are mediocre.

Overall,Homefront The Revolution is a game I can recommend for €20 or less.It is unfairly criticised which is a shame because while it isn't mind-blowing,it's still a relatively fun game.

I don't get the hate for this. It does something for me no other game has really done in 2016 and that's this: It's fun!

So I can't tell you if patches have fixed it as I never experienced it. It does freeze for about 3 seconds upon auto saving though.

I have to say I really like the gun customization as it's something no other game has done in the way this game does it. (That I know of anyway.) How it works is you buy say, The Battle Rifle, you can then buy a Sniper upgrade, what this does, is that on the fly during a battle you can click he RB and select the sniper, you then remove the Battle Rifle body and transform it into a sniper. It's very cool being able to change to new guns and gun parts during a fight and it feels fast and awesome when you do.

I do have gripes with the game though, as I mentioned it does freeze during auto save which is very annoying if you forget to sell or buy something at a vender as it saves every time you use it. Silencers seem to do nothing, as in I was Sniping head-shots from a distance but as soon as a guard went down every other guard immediately knew where I was and that was very annoying when trying to take over strong holds.

Pick this game up if you can find it cheap if you're unsure of it but I had a great time with it. I've currently played for more than 15 hours which is more than I can say for alot of other games in recent years. So borrow it from a friend or buy it cheap, you will get alot of fun from this.

Una buena idea para la secuela, pero una fatal puesta en escena. Mundo abierto con una IA es nefasta y es innecesariamente largo.

Xbox Series X 2021- Got this game on sale for $6 and absolutely impressed with this game.. I read bad reviews from years ago about frame rate drops but if you have a new Xbox you’re in for a treat.. if you’re a Far Cry fan and want to save Philadelphia then this is the game for you..

I played this game about a year ago from today, 6/25/2022. It was very good, but not the greatest game ever. I never got through all of the expansions, but I am likely going to do them on the pc, soon. I found it to be very immersive. I actually believed I was fighting in a revolution against an enemy that took the United States. There were not any bugs nor crashes. I actually believed I was fighting in a revolution against an enemy that took the United States. There were not any bugs nor crashes. However, I noticed that the shooting felt strange somehow, as if the aim assist was off. So, it took me a little while to get used to the gunplay, but once I did, it was great. I think it comes down to this, if you like this sort of game, (farcryesque but unique to itself) you'll like this one as well. The people who do not like this game must be playing a style of game that they do not like, or they played at the release whenever the bugs were too plentiful for someone to properly enjoy this game. It is a good game now but play it on pc if you can. The game is very cheap, even on steam. So, try it, you might like it. Expand

Answer: 75 characters is between 10 words and 19 words with spaces included in the character count. If spaces are not included in the character count, then 75 characters is between 12 words and 25 words.

The setting is decent, the atmosphere can be good in an intimidating way but as it’s a first-person shooter with awful combat and an even worse frame rate it’s impossible to recommend.

Homefront: The Revolution feels like a huge missed opportunity, lacking in every area from world design to gameplay mechanics to AI. Probably the troubled development took its toll at the end.
