Catastrophic events have brought the United States to its knees and enabled the Korean People's Army forces to impose a brutal military occupation. Trapped in this American nightmare, Philadelphia has become a police state, where surveillance drones and armored patrols keep her once-proud citizens at heel, crushing any dissent with totalitarian force. Despite maintaining its great atmosphere and its greatly improved graphics, Homefront: The Revolution does not provide much variety of situations or moments that remain engraved in our minds.

For almost every positive aspect of the game there is an overpowering negative one that drags it down, be it the satisfying weapons, the environmental design etc. Unfortunately the passion of Dambuster Studios can’t hide the fact that Homefront: The Revolution, even though had the fundamentals for a good FPS was nonetheless a product of a highly tumultuous developing cycle.

Homefront: The Revolution wears its troubled design and its unattainable ambition like a scar. There’s a decent game hidden in its core, but it would take too much work to turn the Revolution in to something worthy of attention.

After capturing our attention with a strong concept and an intriguing open world, Homefront: The Revolution struggles with the basics: weapons feel unsatisfying to use, side quests are repetitive, characters are under-developed, and the online multiplayer represents a step back for the series. Sadly, for all of its ambition, there's just not much here worth fighting for.

Homefront: The Revolution has more problems than I can list, including some illogical design decisions I couldn’t wrap my head around. But it truly executes on some of the good ideas it presents, and redeems itself in its latter half to an extent.

As it is, you’re merely left with a badly scraped old junker. Combat may offer passing pleasures, but in every other respect, this is more devolution than revolution. [August 2016, p66]

Players who manage to get past the technical issues will find themselves saddled with a generic, emotionless game.

Put on some decent headphones, then run around blasting some bad guys in a derelict city. Had no issues with frame rates, no AI glitches or ammo issues. The graphics are good, gun mods are awesome, job done. Not a 10, but need to balance out these keyboard warriors giving it a zero which is completely absurd Expand

The issues have now been resolved through patches and I am really enjoying playing it . The gunplay is really good and desperate feeling and requires some strategy such as flanking , recruiting and preparation. The setting is awesome, bit like red dawn where society starts fighting back and the game world changes as the story progresses. The developers have captured it perfectly. I have been playing for about 20 hrs and haven't experienced any real problems except for a tiny bit of pop in after a loading screen which doesn't really bother me. If people like stealth/action games they will like this. Reminds me a lot of far cry / metro / and dying light which are all great games. Again yes it HAD problems but **** happens , that's what patches are for .The developers are always working to improve. This is a great game and if it was reviewed again I know it would get a fairer score. Must buy and experience. Expand

The setting is one that's exciting to explore, the world is massive, there's a lot of things to do, and it's just a lot of fun. If you can look past the flaws that are here, this game deserves a look. This game is in no ways a "disaster" or anything close to that. It's an ambitious but technically flawed game. Expand

I was surprised that it is an open world game unlike the previous game's linear shooter. It is very much like Dead Island with the crafting and mission structure. The game is less janky like Dead Island but still isn't at the quality of Far Cry series which are much better games. You shouldn't really buy this unless you really need more open world action and exhausted the many better games in the genre. Expand

You really can seel that USA in ruins and feel this smell of revolution.
It is the one and only good thing here. Otherwise we got bad shooting, guns are like made from wood, too few modifications for guns.
AI is bad, enemies try to push you every second or hide until you will not kill them.
Storyline is stupid and not interesting at all.
We have not got side quests or smth like that. Instead of this we got watchtowers and forts to liberate them.
Animations are bad too. Some character can speak with you but mouth will be closed.
Do not play this game if you dont want to lose some hours of your life. It is better to play minecraft instead.
