I recommend you wait until 2017 and buy the full game. As it stands you can choose the Intro Pack, or buy the Intro Pack/Upgrade and Hitman. I did the latter. Essentially Intro is 3 missions, Upgrade is some new looks. And Hitman is the season pass. It has typical Hitman game play, but it has it's issues.

    1. You have to be online to play. That means XB1 Live, then Square Enix servers.

    1. You have to be online to play. That means XB1 Live, then Square Enix servers. SE servers are down as I write this review. I think this is a bad policy for what is essentially a single player game.
    2. This is not what I call a full game release. I paid full price for it. Granted they will release more content, which I won't have to pay for later. But there wasn't enough meat here for me to even remember the game in April. When it's next installation comes out.
    3. It is buggy. When I reloaded after a mistake it got lagged out , and this happened several times. It also froze and forced me to reboot during one of it's many long loading screens.
    4. It doesn't have difficulty settings. I am a casual and it felt tough for me. But I imagine a great FPS person would be bored. I need easy. They need hardcore.

It's not all bad though. They are releasing new things every couple of months? They have contracts you can create for other players. Basically it seems you play through the 3 missions, mark targets and players can try out your mission. It looks like they will have other features. Probably a PVP thing from the looks of it. Thus the reason they are probably forcing you to be always online. But for my money it's not worth the $64 bucks after taxes I paid. If you buy just the intro you'll probably be more happy. But I can't imagine it will take most more than a day to master everything.

I thought Square Enix would release a full featured Hitman game, and to keep us busy would release regular DLC with new missions. But this is just 3 missions. Most will be done in a day or 2. And Hitman will be collecting dust until April. When you will probably play a day or 2 and then wait for another month or 2. So essentially you will be paying to have them continue development of the game. And the full experience won't be there until sometime next year. Wait until then. If you buy it now, you will probably feel ripped off. It's only the future content that kept me from giving this game a 3 or less.

Hitman 2016 is the Hitman game I've been waiting for since 2006..... and I'm still waiting for it. Now don't get me wrong, I love this intro pack, the gameplay is a blend of Blood Moneys slick tactical play and kills, with Absolutions combat and cover system, and it looks gorgeous to boot.

There are issues with the game though, some major sound issues are present and the A.I can sometimes be the worst its ever been, but I do love this starter, I'm just still waiting for the main course. Overall a great game that you should pick up.

    Pros:
    Gorgeous
    Great level design
    Great cutscenes
Back to the ways of Blood Money
    Awesome shooting combat

    Cons:
    Quick time punching
    Sound errors
    A.I can be terrible
    Some minor graphical errors

this was a hard one to judge. I love the hitman games. Even absolution grew on me in the end. The actual gameplay is good, really good. But this should never have been released episodically. I would advise people to wait until it's finished for a few reasons. I wish i had but i bought it when i was drunk.
1st of all hitman games have tons of replayability. i will want to play the levels again EVENTUALLY. By the time the new levels come out i will be so sick of the previous level(s) i probably wont play them again. Yes there are contracts missions. But they will get tedious.
2nd. i think this level monthly distribution may well be a tester for new games. If the game is a success, square enix and other developers may do this again in the future. It makes me sick that i have contributed to this.
The other problem is the game has to be online to load saves and unlock challenges for a single player game!!! This wouldn't be such a problem if the servers were not always crashing and disconnecting.
But on a plus The game is good the level is huge with many ways of taking out your targets. you have less energy so a little harder to go on a rampage for very long. I think the game will be good when it's finished but with all the **** decisions they have made in making and distributing it i will probably have had enough of it by then. Such a shame when developers come up with ideas like this. It completely destroys perfectly good games

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Hitman has always been about replayability, but now with only a select amount of content available to play, you have no choice but to keep playing the same things over and over. The first dozen times this will probably be perfectly acceptable, however even larger maps can only offer so much of a challenge before they become boring and players get burnt out. There is the potential promise of a so-called ‘Escalation’ mode however it basically features the same mission parameters with slight deviations and still expects you to carry out repetitive assassinations in order to progress. Meaning even more replay time, in case you somehow missed something the other forty times you played through. Thankfully user creation and contracts factor into the mix, adding somewhat of a less quality-driven but higher replay value mission generator. I must say however, even the contract options here were a step down from those offered in Absolution, which is a disappointment.

Needless to say, the few highlights of this title so far mostly revolve around playability- considering the fact that the controls are thankfully one of the few things that seem perfectly balanced and can be relied upon. The story is mundane and bound to be forgotten by the time the next episode releases, meaning you’ll just have to play the damn thing another time! The environments look great but the animation and voice work diminish an otherwise spectacular experience with their terribleness and at times unexpected glitched encounters. Basically, I’d say you’re much better off waiting for the actual finished product to ship in one piece than to pick up the game in its current form. If all of the content were in one place and available, maybe I could more readily judge it based on the full package rather than episode by episode in its forgettable and incomplete form. What’s here isn’t bad, it just isn’t much.

Concept: More Hitman, less of a hit.

Graphics: The graphics constantly blew me away. They looked even better than those present in last generation’s impressive Absolution and they didn’t seem particularly bothered much no matter how much action was on screen at any given time. Animation work could’ve been handled much better conversely.

Sound: The voice work was often so terrible as to not even be laughably bad. The music was equally nonexistent at times.

Playability: It’s the controls that save this package in my mind. If they had been anything less than stellar, it would’ve doomed the entire project.

Entertainment: What’s here is a lot of fun to experiment with and dabble in, however it feels more like a demo of the full game than a release of anything meaningful in its own right. I hope IO can come through with their promise of constant content production, but even still a month is a bit too long to wait to play the next step in the journey.

    Replay Value: Moderate.

    Overall Score: 7.0/10.0

(I previously rated this a zero). After patches this is working a lot better, at least for me, with reliable internet. it's certainly working a lot better in general. If ubisoft steal/copy the stealth ideas in this game, the next Assassins Creed will eclipse this for stability and playability.I don't know if I'll buy the next episodes hitman...

This is not a full game. Having said that, the Intro Pack which technically is only one slice of complete game delivers engaging game-play that invites to revisit each level and play differently each time. I don't think that developers wanted us to carry to much about story, plot and reason to assassinate your targets but they hope for you to keep replaying this game over and over again. I've got bored about 2 different plays but I am definitively exited to see what the next "episode" will bring.
In summary, I would like to stress that this form of releasing game shows poor decision on publisher on many levels.

If your new to hitman, DONT BUY. Too many bugs, hard crashes, not enough content, and you have to be online to load your saves or do challenges, so basically its an online only game. When there're internet issues on your end or not, you will be kicked from your game immediately. There is an autosave feature which can help you if this happens but not when the hitman servers are down, the save game files are different for offline and online, if your online you can use the online saves, if your offline you can only use offline saves. So if your playing and get kicked out for server issues, start the game again because that's your only option, the autosave feature will overwrite your online save data. So if the hitman servers are down, your not playing this game. I bought the full experience for $60 which includes 2 training missions and ONE level. I cant write a review on the Full Experience page because technically the full experience hasn't been released yet. Cant change difficulty settings, if your bad or new to hitman, your screwed. If the Internets down, your screwed, if you like to play video games and have fun and not get frustrated, your screwed. DONT BUY YET, DONT BUY YET,DONT BUY!!! Dont get conned into this intro pack bs, its a ****ty practice and please dont support it. Buying games for $60 with one level is pretty dumb on my part, this game makes me feel dumb, am I dumb?.... 4got howe 2 sp3ll, 2 stpid to finush r3viuw........h3lp......i miss blood money............................( I gave it a 2 out of 10 at launch of the intro)

***UPDATE* 8/8/17*** They fixed most of these issues by now. It is a full game with a ton of content (don't buy intro, buy full experience), you still have to be online but you wont get kicked if your disconnected. I've seen sales for $25 for the Full experience which is well worth it if you love stealth games. They added one new difficulty setting which is actually pretty awesome and makes the level vastly different and more challenging. I'm excited for season 2 and am glad i stuck with this game. There're so many different ways to complete these levels its kind of insane. Once in a while they'll add new unlockable in game items which can totally change how you play the game. (being able to start with lethal or emetic poison is a game changer, and there's this awesome cell phone "trap" that can easily eliminate your targets, i wont spoil how). At this point in time the elusive targets are over, which I am sad to say. They really upped the tension. You can only play once and you have 10 days or its gone forever. Season 2 will have its own elusive targets which has not yet been announced. I'm wondering how there going to charge for season 2, I paid $60 for season 1. If its more than $30 ill be upset. (7 or 8 out of 10 at this point, one of my favorite games)

The gameplay itself is engaging and invigorating, perfectly capturing the tone of previous entries in the series. The current package is significantly lacking, but regarding gameplay, Hitman is shaping up to be one of the best games to date. Sadly numerous performance issues hinder the game's potential, but never affect gameplay in a significant way.

This is a solid start for IO, but it still needs to do a lot to convince us that this release model has more worth to the player than the traditional ‘release a finished game’ method we’ve grown to love and appreciate.
