I am normally not into rogue-likes/-lites but Hades really works for me. The difficulty builds up very nicely, and gameplay is action-packed and very addictive ("Just one more round!"). Really recommend this one if you want a nice game of hack-and-slash.

Not a rogue-like player but found the game surprisingly good, simple to play but takes a bit to master. Each defeat just had me wanting to play again.
Story is catching for this format.

This is exactly what a rogue like should be. The perfect balance of playing for the current run and the desire to accrue other currency to help in future runs. It's also a great balance between RPG style progression and just plain getting gud at the combat.

A beautiful graphical style and music doesn't hurt either. This game will have you saying "Just one more run" till 3AM.

Best rogue-like i ever played. The story is pretty good. I finished the main quest line in 26 hours 50 minutes but i'm still didn't try the most of builds. Combat variety is awesome.

Fantastic game. Played it on Xbox One X and it is fast, beautiful and seriously addictive.
I have finished Dead Cells, Hollow Knight, The Ascent, Children of Morta, etc, and it is by far the best one..
One small warning: A serious time sink.

Only my second rouge lite. My only other being another supergiant title Bastion. I enjoyed this one more than the first as it lasts longer and has a more satisfying loop.

I'm not a big a fan of rough-like/lites, but i did genuinely find enjoyment in Hades. Although not a huge selection, the weapons feel varied. Combat, as a whole, is fast and fluid. I appreciated the sense of progression. The story and characters, as much as I'm a little bored of European mythology at this point, are well written and mildly interesting.

What is really important for these types of games, is level variety and enemy variety. In Hades, the enemies were not varied enough for me, even though which ones appeared seemed procedurally generated. Combined with the levels feeling exactly the same, apart from which power-ups appeared, it gets repetitive really fast.

Everything is really polished. The art style simple and clean (arguably a little bland). The gameplay is fun. The story is fine. Play it if you like these sorts of games.

Hades has a cool idea, and the characters are really lovable and alive, though it is just a glorified grind without much payoff. Then the game tells you to do it again and again for the 'real' ending. Even playing 3 hours more I didn't make progress with any characters, you don't even know if you'll find that item out there, or if the character you want to talk to will even be around!

The combat is that serviceable and then bland feeling Supergiant combat with that same Deviantart.com art style. The music is the same bland music they always have.

You feel addicted to wanting to upgrade your relationships, home, and character, and the combat to do it feels like a bland and stressful slog, as it is often a gangbang-bullethell game.

This game is absolute gold. I played it on gamepass but I would strongly recommend to buy it as it is 100+ hrs (because you won't be able to stop once endgame starts) and it is cheap in fact you might get it with price of gamepass or less that that on discount days. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I already loved rougelites/rougelikes, and this game is great. It's got great interactions between Zagreus (the player) and everyone else in the game, not to mention the rare occasions where things you thought you knew were happen would become different, such as the first boss occasionally swapping out for an entire new character, and an entire new room that has a chance of appearing that houses another friendly character. Boons in this game also are great in themselves, each coming from a different god, some synergizing well with each other, you may also occasionally come across a room with 2 boons on the floor, you may pick one, but the other will grow angry and (mostly indirectly) attack you, only after you survived to realize their selfish mistake, and leave you be, not even leaving you with a piece of bread. Hades, in my opinion, is probably the best roguelike game I have ever played and I can not find a single negative thing to say about this title except that I wish there was even more levels or perhaps the addition of a co-op mode with some of the characters that Zag bonds with. But that doesn’t take away from how spectacular this title is and how much I highly recommend that you try out Hades. My only regret is I didn’t get to play Hades much sooner.

Hades is a rare breed of game. Supergiant’s design confidence is almost reflected in the cavalier attitude of the game’s protagonist, Zagreus; capable and arrogant, young and vibrant. But evermore charming as a result. I’ve used the phrase before, but this is absolutely a franchise-in-waiting, and more, if the studio and Private Division were so inclined. But know this, at the very least: those accolades? The ones that kept coming? We’re adding to them -- a year on, and now with a new audience and new homes, Hades is still near-perfect and an absolute must-play. Don’t miss the bus again.
