    The idea with its mixture of platforming and physics based puzzles is good - and so is the minimalistic anime design. The mechanical execution with its surprsingly inert controls and the oversensitive physics calculations not so much.

    A cool and unique physics-based puzzle platformer from the house of Pokémon, Giga Wrecker Alt. has some nice twists and mechanics. It's found a perfect home on console.

    Giga Wrecker Alt. is a game that teeters on the brink of a great experience. It has some wonderful ideas that are hampered by the lackluster controls and frustrating execution. The world and its surroundings are great, the ideas are fantastic, but it just never hits that sweet spot of being something I felt compelled to keep coming back to. I struggled to get past some parts while others were a pure joy to play. It is the definition of mixed emotions.

    Giga Wrecker Alt. has all the markings of a stellar platform puzzler, but sadly doesn’t quite manage to achieve greatness due to its lackluster boss encounters, its at times frustrating design choices, and its somewhat floaty handling. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a hell of a lot to like about the journey at hand, from its intriguing story through to its several interesting mechanics, but the fun is religiously interrupted by the game’s aforementioned drawbacks.

    Mainly thanks to its dull combat and floaty controls, Giga Wrecker Alt. isn’t the game it could have been. There’s a great story waiting to be unravelled if you have the patience to work through the game’s issues, but a few hours in, it really will become a slog. Giga Wrecker Alt. is a unique game, for sure, but uniqueness alone doesn’t make something good. The basics have to be there first, and in this case, they’re just not.

I approached my time with Giga Wrecker Alt. with a bit of excitement as the developers also created the Pokemon games. Giga Wrecker Alt. is a fine game featuring a number of interesting mechanics that all add to the overall gameplay making it fun and enjoyable overall. Giga Wrecker Alt. is a platformer and while the platforming elements don’t always feel as tight nor responsive as they could, I was able to look past the minor control issues due to the variety in this metroidvania stylized world. There's a variety in the enemies and puzzles and whilst the bosses were aggravating on certain occasions, I was still able to enjoy the variety in the game. Giga Wrecker Alt. has a fantastic anime art style which is simple yet effective. The sound design combined well and gave an immersive feeling throughout my time with the game. Giga Wrecker Alt. has a few shortcomings of course, but it does get more right than it gets wrong. A solid price point and a sound adventure makes this one worth adding to your Xbox game library at the end of the day.… Full Review »
