Ghostrunner makes us run and jump at high speed in a cyberpunk city, while avoiding enemy bullets and delivering mortal blows with our katana. It's got great environments and a satisfying overall design, but it fails in delivering the precision in movements and jumps this kind of game would need, ending up in a sometimes frustrating experience. Except for this, it's definitely a fascinating game.

Ghostrunner is a game of pain and suffering. Repetition sets in. It never deterred me from hitting continue though. This marks a nice balance of forcing players to master their combat, while also intriguing them to keep going. I absolutely had a blast and cannot wait to see the upgrades on next-gen consoles. This is not a game to sleep on, just be aware it may cause nightmares.

Ghostrunner will challenge you, but before long you'll be a bonafide cyborg ninja and feel cool as hell in the process.

Ghostrunner’s fusion of parkour and one-hit kill gameplay makes for a challenging but brilliant experience worth checking out.

Ghostrunner brilliantly succeeds in combining supercharged and demanding action with equally demanding platforming phases.

Ghostrunner's lightning-fast gameplay makes for a short-lived but memorable action game with some incredible moments.

Climb Dharma Tower, humanity’s last shelter after a world ending cataclysm. Make your way up from the bottom to the top, confront the tyrannical Keymaster, and take your sweet revenge. Ghostunner absolutely put me through my strides and tested the limits of my willpower, but the joy of victory was worth it all in the end in this high paced sci-fi ninja rompfest. The only main weapon in Ghostrunner is a sword, though your speed and mobility options are weapons themselves within the confines of the experience. The Ghostrunner can run along walls, slide down slopes with great speed, and also utilize a quick dash that can be held down to slow down time and alter the direction of his momentum in mid-air. This is a game that your movement and a single weapon create an amazing experience with it’s simple but extreme fun. Ghostrunner is an amazing game and the developers really did a great job on bringing joy to the player on each level of the game and every minute of gameplay I was so satisfied with Ghostrunner, we need more games like this on the Xbox. It’s always a pleasant surprise when we find games well priced and incredibly fun. Full Review »

Excessive difficulty makes the experience frustrating, even with the many checkpoints. Having to jump between several, double-shielded enemiesExcessive difficulty makes the experience frustrating, even with the many checkpoints. Having to jump between several, double-shielded enemies means that one stray bullet will often get you even if you keep moving and make no obvious mistakes. Vertical surfaces are often placed at near 180 degrees, so that it’s extremely difficult to jump the right way to stay in the air, especially since controls are not precise enough. Even very small areas may take one hour to traverse and cause you to die dozens of times. Getting bored.
At times the game does shine and shows you what it could have been, but sadistic difficulty spikes are there to punish the player. Controlling jumps is almost impossible, so when you have a corridor with extremely distant side walls that you can only reach by perfect direction and timing as it is, and the designers also put in electrified surfaces that can only be deactivated by hitting them while you jump, controlling both aim and direction independently, since they’ll activate again in three seconds, it becomes an exercise in pure frustration. With a mouse, maybe it would be possible, but with a controller it’s simply too much, instant reload or not.
