The thing that amazes me so much with the Forza series is that it manages to improve with each instalment, and Forza Motorsport 7 is no different. The first thing you will notice about the game is how beautiful it looks. Visually Forza Motorsport 7 has gone above and beyond and without a doubt it’s the best racing game I’ve ever seen. The amount of content in this game is astounding and will keep you invested for months. With over seven hundred cars to get to grips with you’re spoilt for choice, and the best thing is that the customisation is pretty much endless. There is also a huge amount of tracks for you to race these amazing cars on, and each track has a lot of detail and they all feel great. The racing and driving in the game delivers on all aspects and I love how they’ve made the game accessible to all gamers, whether you’re a newcomer or veteran you can enjoy this. The inclusion of loot boxes has had a mixed response, but for me I enjoyed the inclusion of them. Opening loot boxes can be fun and exciting and in my opinion it adds another layer of replay value to the game. My only gripe with the game is the amount of loading screens you have to battle through, and hopefully the loading times get reduced over time. At the end of the day Forza Motorsport 7 has managed to do everything right again, and for me it takes back its rightful place as top of all racing games. There is even more content in this instalment, and once again I will sink an astronomical amount of hours in, and the best thing is that I can’t see myself getting bored anytime soon. Fans of the Forza series will once again fall in love with what they offer, and for me this is the best racing game I’ve ever played and I appreciate all that the developers have done here. Expand

150 of the 700 cars are not purchasable with in game credits, of course these are some of the best cars.
You need to achieve a "collector tier" if you want to buy cars in that tier. Which you get by buying more cars. So you have to spend your credits on trash cars you don't want just to be ALLOWED to buy the cars you want.
Prize crates are another way too force you to dump credits on stuff you don't want. But since some cars are only in crates, have fun trying to avoid them.
The VIP package was blatant false advertising and a real spit in the face to consumers.
The game is buggy and runs like trash compared to Forza 7 and FH3.
    Day 1 DLC....
You don't get more credits for turning off assits which equals more grinding for those damn crates.
The AI is still pure garbage even on higher difficulties. They are only harder since they get an OBVIOUS power boost compared to your car, but they still drive like they are on average.

All in all, a game with potential but that got defecated on by greedy publishers. Just buy Forza 6 instead or some other racing game. Stay away from this

I have an XBox One S and this game (along with some others) has forced my decision to pre-order a new Xbox One X on release day. The graphics on the current Xbox are phenomenal and I am in the process of downloading the 100gb PC version. I have an i5 4.0ghz and a GTX970 and given that I can play FM6 Apex at 85fps on high settings I am looking forward to see what the PC version holds. My PC is somewhat ageing and the new X might persuade me not to bother upgrading it ever again! :D

Onto the game itself. The career mode is setup well and the biggest move forward for me is the ability to select race distance. You can go anywhere from standard 2-3 lap races up to a whopping 50 laps per race. I settled on the option just under that which is between 7-18 laps depending on the track. Most races last about 15-20 minutes at that setting.

I am racing on a Xbox One controller with no assists other than ABS on, simulation level damage with normal steering. I also use braking only lines. Traction control is off and I race with auto gears, rewind off and friction assist off. I play using the cockpit camera which I can safely say is the most comfortable I have ever felt in any racing game using this camera option. I have the AI drivers on Expert and I am starting to master this AI fairly comfortably as I close the Seeker Championship so I may up this to Pro. I allow for AI aggression also and it makes for some great experiences.

The way you unlock cars and level up has changed dramatically since FM6 and it is more interesting. The jury is out on the crates you buy using in-game money but so far it works fine. Some reviewers believe that crates will be sold for real money after launch but I can't see that happening. Apart from VIP DLC and the other standard Forza DLC I can't see this game becoming pay-to-win like this. This is the first Forza game I have shelled out £80 for the Ultimate Edition at pre-order stage and I'm glad I bought it.

I give this game a 10/10 which is rare from me but I can see that going forward I am going to sink a stupid amount of hours into it. If only they would integrate Groove Music into it like FH3 then I would be even happier. As it is, without it I will cancel my subscription and go back to paying for Spotify as my music subscription.

I knew what to expect, a polished up version of FM6 with a few extra tracks and a few of the most modern cars; apart from that, maybe a couple of sweet surprises as a 'cherry on top' to highlight the advances made in the in-between years and ready for the new Xbox system with 4K capability and technological enhancements. From the date of my pre-order right through to 4 day early launch, I was excited and overly- eager to jump in and race. That day arrived, I got to my Xbox much earlier in the day than I normally do and launched the game. After around 6 hours play , I had seen and experienced a huge disappointment; 30 minutes later, I had my refund, Forza Motorsport 7 was well below my expectations. Now, if this was a stand-alone title, a one-off or a new franchise project, then I could probably have accepted it as an 'OK' game, but it's not it's Forza Motorsport, by-words for a guaranteed world class, dependable and respected product, reliable and a leader in racing titles. I came across many bugs, very slow loading of races, we have splash dialogue help boxes that covers the UI, most of the races I did had rolling-starts, the pits are the pits, the dynamic weather is not so dynamic, I cant find weather settings in free play, other options missing also. There is little in the way of enhanced credit/xp for turning off assists, I have to spend hard grind credits on cars I don't want [ever] to qualify to buy cars I do want, there are cars I want that I might NEVER get a chance of owning. My car has stopped at random spots .. just stopped while the rest go driving on past; my game has closed down twice without notice while waiting for a race to load. I found the 'paint & design' workshop dark, hard to do the design work in that environment. Then the let-down of all let downs.. the much loved, highly rated gameplay mode 'RIVALS' does not exist as we know it and love it ... it was this discovery that finally did it for me, this is not FORZA Motorsport as I know it .. all through the series [and Horizon series] this is the feature that makes the game for me. All this after only around 6 hours play, enough was enough, give me back my money and I'll buy GT sport for my PS4. I say if this was a 'different game/franchise, I could rate as about 6 but this is Forza Motorsport and because of the pedigree I can only give a generous 3 [PURE NFS MAC] Expand

The VIP pass was a scam. Microsoft changed the description after the Ultimate edition was released. The text was vague until release and later changed to say that there is no permanent Credit Boost but 25 boosts (single use). What a bad deal. I can’t refund it since I got a physical copy and used the code.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When I first saw the preview of this game at the Microsoft Press Conference running in 4K UHD on Xbox One X, I had almost mixed feelings. I had most of the excitement that I get every year in the past 5/6 years when a new Forza game is announced though at the same time I was also a little sceptical about pre-ordering the Ultimate Edition. Maybe it was due to the fact that somehow Turn 10 manage to bring us a new successful Forza game year after year unlike other racing franchises like Gran Turismo. Its also because every year they have to improve over it predecessor which they only have just under two years to produce and then execute. Every year I have never been disappointed with the new games that come into this very consistent running franchise every year, though this year was when I began thinking to myself 'when will the next (first) disappointing entry be released?' Though I can happily assure you and myself that it is NOT this year and not with Forza Motorsport 7. I still ended up pre-ordering the ultimate edition not too long after the announcement and now I am so glad that I did it. This game is a blast for me and I still very so believe that this is an improvement over Forza Motorsport 6. I enjoyed Forza Motorsport 6 and definitely enjoyed it more than Forza Motorsport 5 but at the same time it still had some of its issues. That is why I would like to quickly get this topic out of the way first. Thankfully there were very little disappointments to this game for me though I think the biggest one (so far) is the fact that the Auction House introduced last year in Forza Horizon 3 isn't coming until a later date as is a couple of other things such as OneDrive music (another new addition to FH3). This delay really rubs me the wrong way. Even though it is kind of understandable in some aspects, I thoroughly enjoyed spending/gambling money on some cars in the Auction House as well as sell some of my own. I know that having this feature implemented into the Forza Motorsport series would be just as fun and would also make sense. Unfortunately I am going to have to wait until a couple of months/weeks until that will be happening here as I am unaware of the actual date when it will be launched. With that out of the way, lets finish this (what appears to be) slight harassment to this game and talk about the awesome things. When I found out that there would be over 700 cars featured I got really excited though at the same time thought 'Geez I hope I am not going to be wasting too much of my time just to decide on one car'. Thankfully this new feature which allows you to rank up a certain tier to get access to buying several cars. I really like this feature as it requires you to work your way up to earn and buy the higher class cars you want and gives you another reason to play a lot of the campaign and even some free play races. The campaign in this game (similar to Forza Motorsport 6) features different championships that you will work your way up until you reach the final Drivers Cup championship. Throughout all this gameplay you will also encounter some unique showcase events. Some of these showcases are some of my favourites from Forza Motorsport 6 such as Car Bowling and some of them are new category of showcases such as one that requires you to race and catch up to slower and less powerful versions of the car you're in with them receiving a headstart. I have only just gotten about a third into the campaign, but what I have experienced so far in it is so awesome and definitely has more to offer and more reasons to finish it over FM6's campaign. But the gameplay doesn't stop there. The free play option was something I never really touched in FM6 unless I was test driving a new car (mostly from a new DLC), however this new version of free play allows more options. Other than just your own version of a race on any track/circuit, you can choose what type of race/gamemode you wish to play. These can include Drifting, Drag and Endurance racing as he race times can now be set up to 4 hours. The Endurance Showcases in Forza Motorsport 6 was a really cool feature to have even though most of them would give you at least a mild case of sweaty palms at the end. I was disappointed how these were the only ones available and you couldn't really make a custom one. The best thing about all of this is that not only are all these options in Free Play, but also in Multiplayer making both of these gameplays very versatile whenever you play or join. I could go on all day explaining how much I love this game, but maybe I need to play a bit (and this review is dragging to the limit). Though in conclusion, Forza Motorsport 7 is yet another awesome entry into this exceptionally consistent franchise and this is not an exception to that. I am yet again very impressed with this and the new features including all of the new aspects of all the racing options; campaign, free play and multiplayer giving you more reasons to play. Expand

There's plenty more to be disappointed about and the minor improvements over Forza six are overshadowed by foundational core features that has been removed. The foundation to buy any car in the game and the ability to modify a cars to the PI limit of the race.

    - Launch bugs (F....ng lot of them including Graphics, gameplay, etc..)
    - AI Sucks!!!!!!!!! (in the beginning, they just crash into each other, no improvement from previous titles, the first two drivers get far ahead really fast, also, increasing their skill only gives feeling they get a little boost, they brake early, brake on places where they shouldn't be, and they don't really give a **** if you are in their way, they just ram into you)
    - Loading times are so long I can cook dinner while I wait
    - Splitscreen still Basic (No cockpit view, no AI, no rain tracks) Maybe it's because of console limitations, however, PC players, don't even think about split-screen.
    - Loot crates (prizes repeat which can really piss you off as some cars are only available through these).
    - You cannot buy all cars at will
    - VIP is pointless (forget about 2x credits)
    - First, you have to quit race, only then you are able to restart
    - No Affinity
    - No Rewards for turning assists off
    - Short races have only 2-3 laps, then it is much more, I am not sure how many exactly, but there is nothing in between
    - No fun at all
    - Worse thing is, I don even think I have all the negatives here
    - Music is not really fitting

    Verdict:
The Fall of Forza - How Forza lost its passion for cars.
Heartwarming feeling, when you were tuning your car in the beautiful sunny hub surrounded by some chilled electro tunes and playing with all the settings just so you can take it on the track and earn points, and have this awesome feeling that you are a really good "mechanic" and that you made it possible to win just by tweaking some settings, that awesome feeling is now gone. You just look at your car in a dark garage, you can tune, but you cant use it in the career nor multiplayer, free play only. It's so sad that we are experiencing this as auto enthusiasts. It's like these cars lost their soul and you cant give them yours...
Basically, they took away all the fun stuff, I am going back at least to Forza 6, hope they fix this **** then I will maybe get back to it, what a shame, so much potential got wasted on stupid new ideas which no one asked for. They were supposed to add features, not remove the only fun features this game had.

All options to modify the race to your taste (night, rain, storm, etc) are removed and put behind gambling box.
What's next? remove break from your full price racing game and put it in shop? Yeah, who need break in game where you win by going forward; so break isn't critical to the game and should been removed and put in shop to give player "option" to get it or not.

Alright - I will be perfectly honest. This game has barely evolved since the days of the 360. The sentiment here is that they keep on repackaging the same product with some minor improvements and gimmicky implementations that do little in the way of advancing the genre. Weather and time of day are partial and nothing on the level of what has been done in the past by other franchises.Alright - I will be perfectly honest. Weather and time of day are partial and nothing on the level of what has been done in the past by other franchises. Micro-transactions are aggressive and game-play is drifting always further away from its sim-like pretensions. The visuals have always looked synthetic to me, and I can't say that this is doing much to improve my past impressions in this department - Cars and track are ok, but don't hold well to scrutiny. I wouldn't recommend this game if you own the previous ones - I would instead wait for the studio to take steps to show us some true generational improvements over its older entries. Expand

    Several unfortunate changes in as usual robust, photogenic and over-riding video game. Still a great circle Forza, but due to this year's competition, the creators are unnecessarily risking in a hunt for few extra bucks. [Issue#279}

As a package, Forza Motorsport 7 is a solid game for racing fans and a technical showcase for the Xbox One X. While it doesn't look quite as good on the Xbox One, the game still holds its own on the older console and puts in a respectable performance. Just don't spend too much time looking closely at the scenery if you're not playing on an X.

Of course, FM7 has its share of problems, like shortage of tracks for some car classes, lack of management options in career mode and all-but-braindead AI, but the point is – it’s finally possible to play for the driving experience itself.[Issue#224, p.50]
