Weather and time of day are partial and nothing on the level of what has been done in the past by other franchises. Micro-transactions are aggressive and game-play is drifting always further away from its sim-like pretensions. The visuals have always looked synthetic to me, and I can't say that this is doing much to improve my past impressions in this department - Cars and track are ok, but don't hold well to scrutiny. I wouldn't recommend this game if you own the previous ones - I would instead wait for the studio to take steps to show us some true generational improvements over its older entries. Expand

A driving Sim with Lootboxes to change the SIM into a Arcade game?

Porsche is an obvious welcome, but considering Turn 10 is being run into the ground with biannual releases they can't truly innovate.

Gran Turismo has been out since 1997, and they have released 6 numbered titles. Just food for thought

The most I can give the game is a seven. The driving itself is a perfect ten, but the game suffers from bugs, unavailable features/game modes, and even exploits.

The best and biggest change from older Forzas to this is the homologation, which restricts you to car division, not just limited upgrades. For what I looked to do in the game, I'm in love with it, but I'm not gonna pretend like it's perfect:

Bugs include occasional game crashes throughout, sound disappearing in multiplayer and split screen, and gamertags refusing to show up over cars.

Auction house, rivals, leagues, Forzathon, and OneDrive/Groove music support is still absent three weeks after launch.

Test driving is also a bit of a hurdle because this would require you to open up Free Play and disable Drivatars, and then set the car division to "Any" to bypass the homologation requirement (if you want to test drive stock). This Free Play can even be used as an off-brand Rivals since you still have leaderboards, and rivals is still (for whatever reason) not available.

Hoppers are still limited. They are continuously adding division hoppers (as well as class hoppers), but it's limited to only a couple of divisions and one class. I'm waiting for NASCAR hoppers!

Not all cars sound accurate. This cannot be demonstrated or explained through text.

Friction Assist Exploit was recently made public, and the exploit involves using the Friction Assist aid for more grip on and off the course. What is intended, however, is the lap is dirty (invalid) by DEFAULT. The exploit is intended to trick the game and bypass that algorithm into thinking it's disabled, so even with Friction Assist enabled, it is still counted as a clean (valid) lap, and this is ILLEGAL and UNINTENDED.

Also, though there are 700 cars at launch, a MASSIVE chunk of them are not available for outright purchase using in-game credits. Most of them are stashed away within the crates that can be purchased with in-game credits. I understand the concept, and lucky me, every car I care about are available without having to buy crates, but the overwhelming amount of them that are would mean that a lot of people are stuck having to grind for credits and crates for even just a CHANCE to get that one particular car they have been looking for.

No Class-based leaderboards, and very poor accessibility for homologation division leaderboards. Rivals mode, the best thing introduced to the series during its lifetime, hardly exists. Oh yeah, and the relentless march of microtransactions into a game that appears to actively discourage grinding through its very design. The game also hit the market with a gimped and temporary paid VIP status. The physics are marginally improved over FM6, as is wheel support. Some time-of-day tracking lighting is off though, particularly overcast and later afternoon renderings, which can be excessively murky. Expand

Forza 7 is great in a lot of ways but it does let itself down in some crucial areas, for me anyway. The main differentiation for the series over other racing games for me has been its accessibility. You can jump in, drive what you want and have a blast. That has changed with this version, cars or locked behind tiers and upgrades are linked to a certain genre of car rather than performance index. What does this mean? Well it means that you firstly need to grind a bit to unlock the cars that you want and spend quite a lot of money on vehicles you probably would not buy. Some of the cars are locked behind levels, and "loot crates" or the specialist car seller which is another frustration.

With the new rules on upgrading cars it also means you can't race what you want in every race, you are locked into a certain type of car and level of upgrade - IE Street or Sport levels... again a big change for us veterans of the franchise.

The above detracts for me from an otherwise excellent game. The car mechanics are as always top notch, the sounds are even better than last years - particularly the weather and crash noises. The car models and overall graphics are excellent, with lighting and the weather / time of day modelling being the main selling point.

All in this is a great game however for series veterans it isn't what we are used to and therefore a little less great.

Nothing will ever be completely balanced no matter what. The E-X system has been in the game forever and now that freedom is completely gone and removing it after 7 games is just stupid. Your car is locked to certain specs(Horsepower, Tire Width, Type of Tires, PI Index etc.), I honestly don't mind the system that much in singleplayer but (as of writing this) There are only 5 playlists online and all of them are locked to the new system and you completely lose the freedom the other games gave you, Also not to mention there are 700 cars in the game and only 81 are usable in online playlists. There are no drift lobbies, Drag Lobbies and they even took away the Playground games. It feels like they have just completely forgot multiplayer is a thing and only focused on singleplayer. The good side is that the driving feels pretty good and there is a lot of variety in singleplayer.

I don't hate the game but i feel like Turn 10 has forgot what made their games special and that was the freedom of racing what ever you wanted and not being so restricted. If i wanted to deal with restrictions like that i would of just bought Project Cars 2. Forza is really no different then any other racing game now.

Instead of getting bonus credits by turning off assists, you get bonus credits from mods that actually make the game easier. (race with ABS on and get 30% bonus)

The game has 461 costumes for your driver. You will see these on the rigid arms that stick out dead center and move slightly up and down as you steer. in fact, the drivers are less lively than racing games from 10 years ago.

You can buy look boxes with car mods and sometimes cars and costumes. And Turn 10 stated that you will be able to buy these with real world money soon. So you can pay to win.

    Long time fans should wait.
New fans should get Forza 6.

Microsoft have done an amazing job in Optimising Forza Motorsport 7 on both console and PC. The tracks, familiar and new are crisp and detailed and some of the older tracks have received a massive face lift. That Microsoft keep delivering such well optimised games to PC really puts some developers/publishers to shame. It's not all good news on the visual side though I'm afraid as there are some things that caught my eye. First off are the trees. Some of them look terrible even when you're focused on the racing and doing over 100mp. On some of the desert tracks you get sand blowing across the road but the sand doesn't react at all to the passing cars and it just comes off as really fake. I've noticed a few of the flag waving spectators glitching out too. Pit stops are woeful as your car is tended to by a fleet of invisible workers who don't actually do anything to your car except magic on new tyres and repair damage. So yes whilst Forza Motorsport is stupendously gorgeous it's annoying to think that little things like this made it into the final code. Forza Motorsport 7 boasts a massive catalogue of vehicles to take to the track, 700+ vehicles all at your disposal when all is told and more on the way no doubt via DLC. The cars and other vehicles are beautiful to look at and there will be something that appeals to everyone. The issue I have here is that a large portion of them feel totally out of place in Forza Motorsport 7. There's a vast amount of off-road focused vehicles that frankly just shouldn't be in the game since there's no off-road racing. Racing them on the tracks just looks and feels wrong to me. It's almost like the final number of cars meant more than putting in cars that made sense. I also find myself gravitating towards the same cars I normally go for in each class too which does make me wonder if more could be done to encourage the use of less popular cars. Forza 7 offers players over 30 tracks in multiple configurations although it should be noted that most are familiar tracks ripped out of previous games. Like i said previously the tracks have received a face-lift and it's great to see Maple Valley and Suzuka return. I'm not a fan of the new Dubai track I must admit. I don't like the layout and i hate the confetti canons. It would be nice to have had more new tracks but the tracks that are in the game are beautiful to look at and a heap of fun to race around. The weather can totally change the flow of the race and it's been implemented very well. When all is said and done though the longer duration races fit the weather system perfectly and can make for some very interesting races. Forza 7 feels like the Forza games that came before in terms of handling. It’s not that its terrible but the cars often feel a bit twitchy to me. The biggest issue I have with the actual gameplay is the Drivatar system. It’s truly horrendous. AI will refuse to acknowledge your existence let alone your position on the track this will mean that until you get out in front you will be rammed over and over again. It’s a massive barrier to having a good fun experience, especially with the shorter races. I definitely had hoped to see improvements here but if anything the AI seems worse and dare I say it, a bit easy to beat once you manage to actually get past them. By far and away my biggest issue with Forza Motorsport 7 is the introduction and implementation of the loot box system and the changes they’ve made to the progression system in order to accommodate that. Forza 6 often felt like credits were thrown at you. Money was no object and cars were yours to buy. Forza Motorsport 7 though feels like a grind. Some cars are locked away so you cant purchase them until you reach a certain Collector score. Credit rewards feel lower than previous games too meaning you will be taking longer to build up funds to add the cars you want to your collection. You can speed up this process by using mods which reward you for completing certain tasks on track or for racing in rain for example but these are consumables that can only be used a limited number of times and rather than offer a challenge or introduce some fun gameplay element they are literally there to temporarily reduce the grind and encourage you to buy a loot box. Unfortunately Forza 7 just isn't that fun anymore. To make matters worse you can now customise your driver in a variety of outfits . To my absolute horror and disgust Forza Motorsport 7 will allow you to dress up your driver as a clown, a diver, a knight and a whole array of other ridiculous outfits that just shouldn’t be in this game. I want to like Forza 7 but it's taken a step back this year and is less of a sim than i would have liked. Expand
