Undoubtedly, Far Cry 5 is one of the best games of this franchise, which has a great story, very good characters, beautiful world and good gameplay as always, but suffers in the artificial intelligence of the enemies, the facial animation and technical parts.

One of the most satisfying open-world power fantasies I've ever played. It doesn't waste any time letting you off the leash either. After a relatively brief opening and quickly customizing your character, you're set free to take out the highest-ranking members of a cult however and in any order you see fit to draw out their leader. The structure is very similar to the Just Cause series in that pulling your targets out of hiding requires you to destabilize their presence in a region by completing missions and destroying their property, among other things. The whole process is a joy thanks to how great shooting feels and the amount of flexibility you're given in your approach to tackling objectives. There's also a healthy feeling of growth as completing challenges, a lot of which you'll do naturally without even trying, rewards you with "Perk Points" you can use to buy a variety of beneficial abilities and any cash found can be spent at shops on attachments for your arsenal of weapons. All of which have the potential to turn you into a nigh unstoppable killing machine. You can even bring a buddy along for the ride on top of being able to recruit a diverse assortment of AI companions with their own unique skills.

By far the biggest reason this is so much fun though has got to be the map. The Montana countryside setting leads to a lot of distinctive scenery you can't find anywhere else and the world is brought to life by a believable ecosystem that allows for a wide range of naturalistic animal and human NPC behavior for you to notice. It's also a blast to traverse to the point where I often forsook vehicles entirely in favor of reaching my next destination on foot. Did I mention the plethora of activities littered about it to boot?

Not everything is perfect however. Vehicular combat is a drag because driving in first-person is loose and aiming while behind the wheel is unreliable at best. Particularly in anything that leaves the ground. The load times are fairly lengthy as well and you can't skip the splash screens at the startup before the main menu which is annoying.

There is an online component called "Arcade" where you can try out player-created solo experiences and deathmatch arenas, or make your own. The actual multiplayer side of it is dead though. Next to nobody is online anymore so unless you just want to build stuff that's unlikely to be seen by anyone else you can safely ignore this portion of the game.

Based solely on the strength of its single-player (or cooperative) offering alone however, this is still a worthy purchase. It's a massive sandbox filled with enough content to keep you busy for quite a long time and all the toys you'll need to turn it into your very own playground of destruction, that happened to garner a lot of controversy for its story. Which is weird given what a largely inconsequential feature that ended up being. The cutscenes are little more than a minor nuisance that slow you down from getting back to trying to murder the twisted villains talking at you rather than anything to get worked up over. As a result, an interest has been sparked in me for this franchise that I've been entirely content to let pass me by until now. Far Cry 5's commitment to freedom and transforming you into an undeniable force to be reckoned with led to some of the most enjoyable escapist thrills I've found this side of Saint's Row: The Third and IV. I can't recommend it highly enough.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is easily the most bland and least fun Far Cry game ever made. It is a complete disaster.

    1. The story and side quests are almost all really boring, but even worse are the boss battles. They are extremely repetitive and you can't take your companions with you for any of them... which is when you really want to take them. On top of that, the final boss battle is possibly the most pathetic final battle I have ever played. It is so bad that it is embarrassing, and the ending that I got was one of the most dissatisfying endings I've ever seen. Total failure on the part of Ubisoft.

    2. Getting captured and having to escape has become a total cliche in these kinds of games, and I was hoping that they would finally get rid of that nonsense for this game. It's been done to death, and it's just EXTREMELY lazy writing at this point. But in this game you get captured over and over again (like 10 times). It is beyond stupid. Getting captured once or twice in a game like this is MORE than enough. After that, I can no longer take the game seriously. What on earth were they thinking?

    3. Much like in GR Wildlands, there is just too much stuff happening all over the place ALL THE TIME. This completely kills the sense of being immersed in a remote wilderness. Far Cry 3 did the best job when it came to immersion, as you could sneak through the jungle and really feel like there wasn't a soul around. This made those surprise animal encounters or enemy patrols even more exciting. But since then, Ubisoft has gone overboard with this stuff, and has programmed way too much activity everywhere you go. You can barely even loot bodies on the road without another enemy vehicle rolling up, and then another, and then another.... Wildlands had this problem too, and it was one of the biggest complaints that people had about it. For some unknown reason they did the same thing with Far Cry 5. It really sucks.

    4. The weapon selection is extremely limited - shockingly so - and there is no weapon screen for me to check my weapons/attachments/etc. It doesn't even tell you how many rounds are in your magazine. Somebody at Ubisoft just phoned it in and forgot to add this stuff.

    5. There is no mini map, so you are constantly having to stop and check the main map. Again, somebody at Ubisoft forgot to add this useful feature.

    6. Weapons switching is broken. Like in previous Far cry games, you are supposed to be able to switch back and forth between two weapons using the Y button, but in this game as soon as you travel it resets them, and so it constantly pulls out the wrong weapon when you press Y. This is very irritating.

    7. They kept saying that John was dead even before I started his main mission to go kill him.

    8. There are way too many drug effects throughout the game.... like it is the central theme. It's cheesy and annoying. Sometimes you just pass out for no known reason and end up someplace else. It's just one dumb thing after another with this game.

Overall, Far Cry 5 is a MASSIVE disappointment, one of the biggest of all-time. It is nowhere near as fun as Far Cry 3 or 4, and it isn't even as good as Wildlands. This game is truly terrible, and everyone I know is already bored with it.

    Pros:
. When the game is not throwing 5 tons of crap at you, the gameplay is mostly the same chaotic blast as it's always been. The Guns/Fangs-For-Hire are also a lot of fun to use. . Whilst not to the same extent as FC 4, the game has a good amount of visual appeal to it.
. The soundtrack may genuinely be the best in the series. . Side missions actually have a relative amount of depth

. The soundtrack may genuinely be the best in the series.
. Side missions actually have a relative amount of depth to them (for better or worse). Actually having their own little stories which make them more memorable. . The enhanced customisation for vehicles and your character are a nice touch. . Joseph Seed is a decent antagonist, and a change of pace from the usual psychos. He is also humanised in a similar way to Pagan Min, allowing for more empathy towards him, asking the question of whether or not he really is the bad guy.

    Cons:
. Despite what I said about Joseph, FC 5 may have one of the worst casts in the series. To begin with, the protagonist is a mute, allowing for no chemistry with any other character, which was badly needed here. It doesn't help that a lot of the supporting cast are generic and forgettable at best, and completely annoying at worst.
. FC 5 may also have one of the worst plots in the series. Ubisoft got cold feet over the use of religious and political views for the game, instead regressing the story to a painfully generic liberation plot that can be a slow-plodding grind to complete as you move through each region. . The ending may also be one of the worst in video game history, as it makes everything you did completely pointless and makes every good guy in the game look like idiots.
. There is also no consistency in the plot as not many missions actually factor to the overall story at all. In fact the only missions that do are the ones the game FORCES you to do, when you are captured by one of the Seed Family. 1.There is no way to stop the captures from happening, 2. It can happen at ANY time, even in the middle of a completely ulreated mission, 3. It happens way too often (a grand total of 8 TIMES), which can completely ruin the enjoyment of the game.
. Despite the praise I gave the gameplay, they did make some very questionable decisions over some of the changes they made. They've removed crafting upgrades for your character, making hunting utterly pointless. Manual healing without medkits (a staple of the series), was also removed. A lot of takedown animations and some weapons, including the machete (another series staple) are also absent.
. Even though the game visually looks pretty, the map is also a bland and samey place to Traverse. Montana doesn't really hold up alongside Kyrat and the Rook Islands.

    Score:
    . Story - 4/10
    . Characters - 5/10
    . Gameplay - 7/10
    . Presentation - 8/10

    . Combined Score: 24/40
    . Final Score: 7/10 (Just)

This is the one game where we know absolutely nothing about the protagonist. There is no motivation, no saving “real friends”, honoring a dying parents’s legacy nor saving your tribe. It was deliberately made vague so you can choose a female protagonist in a game that was clearly designed for a male character. Before any one reading this jumps the gun, a female character with a stronger motivation and more stake in the actual events unfolding in Montana would have made a difference. I am not saying Far Cry 5 was terrible, but it isn’t great. If you took Joseph Seed out, I’ll probably give it a 5 or less. TBC Expand

On the graphics side , is everything incredible , on HD is awesome , and if you play it on an Xbox One X on 4k …
The story is a very good one , and I would say (in my opinion) , the most interesting one from all the Far Cry games I've played , because there are 3 different mini-bosses , and then there is 1 boss , that in my opinion is way better than the Far Cry 4 one .
Another thing I noticed is that this game is very addictive , and it makes you always want to play more and more .
I'll give this game an 9/10 , awesome game , and if the correction with the Arcade could be made , then it is 10/10 .

The game is way less practical than 3, and is more pay to win if you will, i highly recommend playing this game on the hardest difficulty, cause the others ones are just too easy. Altough i like the differences beetwen places in the location itself, i do agree sometimes it looks quite the same. The world is good to explore but appart than interesting places it aint worth it.

I recommend this game, but dont go expecting a really deep story or really interesting and complex combat, is really generic but really fun at the end of the day.

Far Cry 5 is an amazing game with many flaws. Lots of missed opportunities, an annoying amount of forced missions and a rather weak story are the biggest flaws. The game probably deserves lower than an 8, probably a seven. But its just the sheer amount of fun you can have just messing around in this game more than makes up for it. Rating - 84%

Degree very freshly finished (46h 13min), that was a great ride. My last Far Cry was part 2, I just wanted the setting and I really liked it.

    Gameplay:

I really liked the gameplay so far after I got better into the game because I had difficulty aiming at the beginning. The vehicles steer themselves okay, only flying the plane was a bit imprecise, but the helicopter was a lot of fun and the game was clearly simplified. I sometimes had real control problems when looting and / or picking up weapons, especially during the last fight it was all very chaotic (keyword: resuscitation).

I actually had a lot of fun exploring and looting, but I would have liked a lot more depth, especially in crafting, and when it comes to modding weapons, it was all very thin. Too bad.
I found the typical Ubisoft packing the map very pleasant in Far Cry 5, I just wanted to, then it is easier to pacify the 15th outpost.

I actually liked the companion system very much, even if it was only implemented very superficially. However, the AI was sometimes completely stupid, had some glitches and bugs.

Even typical open world illnesses have been experienced again and again, but they haven't ripped me off.

    Missions / Story:

So first of all the side missions and individual tasks (prepper - hiding places, for example) were sometimes really strong, so I actually had the most fun. Among the individual missions, whether main or side story, there was one or the other pearl that made me
really thrown on the floor with laughter (Cattle and Marvin Gaye: awesome).

Regarding the story, I'll just say that, as already mentioned at the beginning, I liked the setting very much, but how everything turned out was ok, but not really innovative and surprising. You actually knew quickly what it was going to lead to, especially because there are enough hidden and less hidden clues.

    Graphic:

I can't complain, I liked the graphics and the region was presented nicely. Cut scenes looked really nice too, as did the now famous facial animations.

    Conclusion:

All in all a really great shooter that a little more innovation and the courage to go deep would not have hurt. 8/10 sects - outposts.

The most important things you need to know about Far Cry 5: If you're looking for a happy ending, a heroes ending, you will be disappointed. If you don't like games with layers, you will miss out on half the game, but you might still have a good time anyway (you'd just really hate the ending as it wouldn't make sense).

Personally, I like the ending, as the moral ambiguity of the Far Cry series is what I like best about it. In Far Cry 5, your ending is a lose/lose and the question you're really being asked is 'what counts as living?' or 'what are you really fighting for - the people, or the numbers?'

It's a very thinky ending. Similar to the feeling I had at the end of watching Inception. The question of whether you made the right call or not is left up to what you value.

There is no 'ultimate good' ending. All endings have huge negative consequences.

Far Cry 4's gameplay was too similar to Far Cry 3's for my tastes. I couldn't stick with it because it just reminded me how good FC3 was and how I'd rather be playing that. Far Cry 5 deviates from that just enough that the gameplay is interesting, not enough that it's no longer a Far Cry game. There's always something to discover and do. There is a lot of content and you will definitely get your moneys worth on time alone.

I did get sick of the god/guns/troops/patriotism narrative but they were trying to portray a conservative US state , so it's justified. Just very cringe if you're not in the states.

Far Cry 5 is a great game to pass the time with. Every now and then it becomes really fun to free the areas from the extremists. However, the game never really gets good. Continuously the same NPCs, no ambition in mission design and the world building is not special at all. I can't say anything other than this is another typical Ubisoft game. Why am I feeling like this … the game doesn’t feel the same as Far Cry 3 and 4, the game sure looks beautiful once it starts, the weapons, the animals, the vehicles and even the world, the detail is breathtaking … even the music in the game, took me my heart by storm and I loved that, what a way to capture my attention.

    HUGE (SIGH)

I notice that when am playing, that I have to accomplish certain missions to get “perk points” so that I can unlock skills for my character. This is really dumb move UBISOFT, we normally get skill point through experience (fighting), not by going out to fish … by the way the fishing is good, add it to the next far cry games.

And now I am asked to buy vehicles and boats and airplanes … and to make matters worse, the game world has very little money … what the hell ? Now we have silver bars!!! UBISOFT you want to follow the path of mirco-transacting in this game, am guessing you are just like EA, keep following in their footsteps … and see where that leads you!

I feel disappointed even when writing this, I feel like UBISOFT made a big mistake changing the style of the far cry games with this one. What happened to radio towers and discovering the map through that style ?! Oh well, I guess I have to walk on the whole map and discover every place of interest on my own!

The aircraft mechanics are arcade-like in their simplicity but serviceable. The Midwest locale and religious zealot enemies make for an interesting change of pace whatever your political leanings may be, but as an American I miss the "exotic" locales of the other entries. The series remains its psychedelic streak but the sequences hijack the otherwise open-ended game-play and lack the mythical beauty of the hallucination scenes in Far Cry 3 and 4. All told, Far Cry 5 is one of the best shooters and open world games of the year.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If this game would just shut the heck up and let me play it’d get a higher score, but no, every so often you get captured then escape. Nine times in total. No choice, no chance, just boring exposition while a character talks in a reasonable tone of voice while doing and sayin* the most extreme things. Little of which is interesting most of which is ‘you just don’t understand’. Well, no, because you’re making me listen to stream of consciousness nonsense that’s simply filler.

You get hauled out of immersion for what? Ten minutes each time showing how unhinged the cult is. Well, the dismembered bodies littering the place might have been enough of a clue.

The real annoying thing is the ending, in which the main character puts the blame for the end of the world on you. ‘Not every problem can be solved with a bullet younknow’. Well, I’m not the one crucifying innocent civilians for the lolz am I’m? The games put me in a position where I can only solve problems with a bullet, so the lectures a little hard to take.

The ending is a gross disappointment since it renders redundant virtually everything you’ve done. Plot twists are good.... if done well, but this isn’t. You get told I was right you, were wrong, as if an 8mpendin* nuclear war was sufficient justification for nailing toddlers to the floor. No, just use the bloody bunkers that everyone has in their cellar and forget the torture. But then there’d be no point to the story. The writers seem to have used a desire to produce a shock ending and forgot about any consistency. Like biting into Victoria sponge and finding someone’s replaced the cream with chopped liver. A shock, yes, good idea no.

On the upside the game plays well, but you have to ignore the story, and once you’ve said that you’ve said it all. Mash the b button to skip the cut scenes. I’ve done the hard work for you and it ain’t worth it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Far Cry 5 takes place in Hope County, Montana, it tries to capture the essence and beauty of Montana, United States, it’s a good story with a strong political backdrop. I am amazed with the stories writing, however I am disappointed in it with its prolonged story when we already know what is going to happen. There are fun activities like fishing (an American past-time of mine), and I enjoy having to finish the challenge perks I get to do, I can earn those very easily in the game, the only thing I don’t like about Far Cry 5 it’s a different story every-time, its not canon to Far Cry 4, and Far Cry 3, you really don’t need to play the last two games to understand Far Cry 5, if you have played Far Cry games in the past, it’s always the same premise highlight your target and go exploring, hunting, gathering, what have you. However there are specialists in the game, like Cheeseburger, Peaches, Boomer, etc good ol’ pets and animals, even comrads can join you in the cause of killing The Father, Hurk is probably the funniest in all of them, the crafting system is pretty weak. Customization and gun variants are also not that very good, its basically and I hate comparing games with other games, because I want originality, but its basically Skyrim with guns, the enemy variants are not that strong, and its mostly a rinse and repeat job. The gun system and gun play is however enticing, and satisfying to see the rag doll physics at work here, but it is mostly a X,Y, and Z. I cant help but get sucked back into Ghost Recon: Wildlands, or Tom Clancy’s The Division, the writing is pretty deep in this game, this manifested in the twenty-first century in the form of frequent terrorist attacks such as the September 11 attacks, and financial problems such as the subprime mortgage crisis and in turn caused people to become increasingly protective as they questioned the government. Ultimately the concept of the "global village" began to collapse, which sets the theme of the game and prompted the team to write a story that features a doomsday cult as the game's main antagonist. Far Cry 5's announcement in May 2017 came at a time of heightened political and ideological conflict around the world, namely as a result of the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States and the onset of the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union. Many journalists opined that Far Cry 5's setting and narrative concept, involving themes of religious fanaticism and the emergence of far-right political movements within the borders of the United States—as opposed to the more exotic locales depicted in other Far Cry titles—would likely make the game highly controversial. Yet I do miss Far Cry 4’s appeal towards Nepal, they captured the essence of Nepal rather than Montana, all I thought was of the Red Woods in California. This game exceeds in my opinion, that’s why I gave it a eight it is a lot better in CO-OP with friends. Thanks for the game Ubisoft! Expand

First off - hats off to making a game with a political statement. The craziness that pervades in the USA now is pretty well captured in this game. Its pretty scary actually.
The bad - the game feels disjointed, the story line doesn't really push you along like it did in Far Cry 4. Sure the free exploration is awesome but if you're just wandering aimlessly i'd rather do that in the real

The bad - the game feels disjointed, the story line doesn't really push you along like it did in Far Cry 4. Sure the free exploration is awesome but if you're just wandering aimlessly i'd rather do that in the real world.
The game is buggy - NPCs teleport, 1 minute they are by your side, the next 100yds down the road. You'll liberate an outpost, be jogging out of town to your next destination and start getting shot by bad guys who just came out of town! WTH! There are many sudden deaths - getting stuck on terrain, bad enemy AI - one moment they are super alert, the next very dumb.
The set dogfight scene was just terrible. Taking an outpost is now - get big sniper rifle, blast away from long range till just all NPCs dead, sneak in and stealth kill remainder. If they can't see you they just wander till you finish them - Far Cry 4 outposts were much more challenging. The loot system is pretty ordinary - i've not changed my main weapon since i got it at the start of the game. There is little progression here. Hunting is also pointless - see an animal, blast it to heck with your machine gun for a small vendor hit. In Far Cry 4 you at least hunted animals and got a bonus for a clean kill. Here they are just a waste of time unless pop right in front of you. Fishing is the same really, depends on you mood i guess if you want to do it.
While not perfect, I do like the change to guns for hire - though it would be nice if there was a bit more depth to your sidekicks
And last, there are way too many hillbillies in this game (another sad reflection) - it could be worse, it could be set in Australia with bogans everywhere. I loved Far Cry 4 - so I had high hopes for FC5.

The first thing that brought me down was the uniform and generic appearance of the enemy faction. It feels like every enemy you face is one of 3 or 4 very similar character models, and they all seem unrealistic-looking somehow. Like they don't even belong in this game. Next comes a very disingenuous-feeling storyline, complete with leading characters (both friendly NPCs and leading villains) that badly lack in credibility/believability. The game's entire premise just did not convince me. Disappointing, especially considering how much I enjoyed Far Cry 4 and Primal. As I tried to soldier on and at least enjoy the gameplay, the glaring absence of a knife for stealth kills nearly becomes a deal breaker on it's own. Sneaking up on enemies with one of 2 versions of a lead pipe, a baseball bat or gardening shovel is exciting once or twice, it just doesn't feel as satisfying. It really doesn't.
Speaking of stealth, I like to sneak up on enemies. Whether they're in small groups or a large outpost. Looking through the binoculars and taking my time on an approach feels immersive and awesome to me, so I can't stress this enough: Far Cry 5 never gives you the chance to take a breath and look around and enjoy the beautiful world around you. Just when you spot that group of enemies, drop into sneak and start tracking their movements through your binoculars or scope...a vicious wolverine will suddenly attack you from behind—an enemy plane will spot you from the sky and circle around to strafe you—a truckload of cultists (enemies) will pull up and start unloading from their mounted M-60. All at the same time. Seriously, this happens constantly. Taking a drive from point A to point B also kills immersion b/c an enemy of some kind spawns in or along the road about every 100 yards or so. Considering how many cultists you come across holding hostages on the roadside during any given drive, it seems like the entire population of Montana must be out there kneeling at gunpoint. If you try to confront every enemy you pass, you'll never make it anywhere. Action is great, but give me a chance to feel like I'm part of a world, not the constant center of attention for every hostile inhabiting the place.
This title had some fun moments. But between a storyline/cast of characters that I can't buy into and gameplay that's frustrating, boring and above all, immersion-killing, I cannot recommend this game—even to die hard Far Cry fans (which I consider myself one). Nice visuals/world, but I'd stick to the older titles. Huge disappointment for me. Gets boring fast. Waste of hard-earned money.
PS—There were many bugs/glitches, and the companion system is nothing short of "meh."

Probably one of the best looking games I have ever played. Plays fantastic too. I would have given it a perfect score but docked two points due to the story. The religious nonsense gets old fast and they force sooo much on you it just gets super frustrating and annoying every time I have a new cut scene. End of game was a disappointment too.

My experience with the Far Cry series has been a bit of a mixed bag. There's a lot of good that comes from the series (a lot of good with Ubisoft's games in general). But as time rolls on and newer releases are made I've noticed a few things have popped up that have sapped a bit of the experience away for me. The following are my pros and cons for the title of Far Cry 5.

    ::The Pros::

But as time rolls on and newer releases are made I've noticed a few things have popped up that have sapped a bit of the experience away for me. The following are my pros and cons for the title of Far Cry 5.

    ::The Pros::

Great World Building: The game world is very well designed and has been crafted in such a way where playing the game can cause you to get lost in its world as if you were exploring a real place. Houses and complexes dotting across the land are scattered about in a believable way for a medium to large sized farming community. Vehicles seen in the game are fitting choices for where the setting takes place. Moreover, the character designs for NPCs in the game are also believable for the geographical setting the game itself takes place in.

Superior Combat System: Out of all the other Far Cry games I've played (Far Cry 2 and Far Cry 3 specifically), this entry in the franchise has the best combat system by far. The weapon differences are more than just reskinned models of the same gun. The attachments optional for weapon optics actually have different features aside from how the scope / holo-sight looks. There are also multitudes of weapons in each category that will use different ammunition types, giving the playing more freedom to mix and match and really plan their load out. Moreover, throwables like bombs and Molotov cocktails can damage the environment itself, making unique ways to kill enemies.

Graphics: Okay, so I feel like this one doesn't need any explanation. Pretty much every new Triple A release out there on the market today has awesome graphics. As much as I don't feel it matters for my own personal enjoyment, I'm putting it here for those of you who really value a game's look and overall appearance.

Hunting & Fishing: I don't even enjoy games centered around hunting wildlife or fishing from the bank of a river, the idea itself is unappealing to me entirely. That said, Far Cry 5 managed to take this and make it fun. There's a genuine feeling of joy picking which ally will accompany you on your hunt and going over just how you plan to go about taking out your prey.

    ::The Cons::

The Story: Story might not be a big stable for Far Cry players, as some of the older games in the franchise didn't have much or force much on you in the way of actual plot beyond "these are the bad guys, go shoot 'em up." However, the story for this Far Cry is... Well, there's no other way to put it aside from just horrible. There are so many plot holes, so many things that make no sense whatsoever, and so many events that take place in this game's story progression that not only go beyond any sense of believability for realistic expectations, but go clear out beyond what the game's world itself states is possible earlier in the game. It's riddled with contradictions, forced events that scripted for player failure despite the player's level of skill, and overall the story line within the game forces itself upon the player rather than allowing you to discover it naturally.

Not Truly An Open World: This one's a bit of a mixed bag. The developers claim the game to be open world, make your choices and go where you want to accomplish the goals. Now, this is true to a very limited extent. You do choose which area in the game's world that you want to deal with first, however, during the many quests and side quests you will be forcibly defeated by enemies who appear from nowhere (sometimes whilst in the midst of a currently active mission--which it forces you to fail by the way) just for the game to whisk you away to where it feels you need to be to progress the story. The player is forced through undefeatable enemies into being captured and relocated to areas that the story itself feels you need to complete. This takes the choice from the player and makes the "open world" or "sandbox" claims people make about Far Cry 5 just not true. You could argue that technically once you complete these forced scripted defeat cycles that you can go about how you'd like as a player. However, these are so frequent during gameplay that if you decide to go off away from what the game feels is important for too long, they'll send another undefeatable band after you to put you back on what the developers much have felt is the right track.

Immersion & Believability: A final point tied into my other Cons listed for this title. With the story's constant contradictions and the undefeatable squads of enemies who are constantly dispatched to force you onto the developers' vision of the right track shatters any sense of realism, story telling, and immersion for a player's experience. It's a bad time.

What a brilliant job of removing everything good about a game to replace it with long boring speeches and hired guns that walk in front of your shots and stand in the middle of fires and burn to death. I am entertaining myself by wandering aimlessly through the beautiful country side but the game keeps standing in my way of having any fun. What is the point of having a silent protagonist if everybody else NEVER shut up. I don't understand why when a game is loved by many and has an audience it has to be messed with and ruined. Are my son and I the only ones who loved climbing the radio towers? Forgot to mention Blood Dragon was awesome! After finishing the game I lowered my score and ended up hating everything about this game. The story was ridiculous, the characters were laughable, the music was terrible and I never once had a minute of fun. Disaster! Just a heads up, don't play as a female character as the chatter is even more torturous to listen to. Expand

Far cry 5 is a great game, to a point. Then it becomes stale and a complete grind to play through. The missions lose their variety after a while (minus a few highlights with the alien and cow sex levels) but i found it very hard to get through this whole meaty game because of lack of compelling gameplay and gun play . Also the villains get kind of annoying and just way too OTT after a while...

So if you are expecting to play this game for months I suggest you avoid the main story as long as you can because once you do that you will likely stop playing the game altogether like I did.
To those who don’t know, Far Cry 5 can be summed up into three main genres: action-adventure, first-person shooter, and open world. It is set in Hope County in Montana, and you play as a newbie sent along with other officers to help shut down a cult that has gone out of control. The leader of this religious cult is led by a man named Joseph who uses a drug called bliss to control his followers and your job is to take him out by doing whatever you can to slowly chip and eventually destroy his operation. It is an extremely engaging story and I wish this game’s replayability was much higher because I would definitely play this again if I could have the same fresh eyes as I did when I first started playing.
Far Cry 5 was made by Ubisoft, an extremely large company with other titles under its belt such as The Crew 2 and Assassin’s Creed Origin. This title is part of the much larger Far Cry series and is known for its developers going the extra mile to give a realistic representation of their settings, this can be seen the many details they put into Far Cry 5. Even from the opening title of the game, the music has a religious ominous type of music which gives hints of the cult aspect of the game. Then, when the game is about to begin it shows a very empty and peaceful shot of a town. There is a very slow banjo song that plays and you can hear the wildlife around it from the crickets to the birds chirping. Both of these parts give hint that the majority of the game will be played in the countryside of Montana where it can be extremely peaceful and beautiful… when you’re not hunting down the cult that is.
Considering the strong controversy surrounding Far Cry 5, it seems to attempt to make a political point with the use of satire. Although not through serious methods, it tries to comment on the political climate of today through references and through comedy. I would not consider Far Cry 5 a serious argument in today’s political climate considering it takes many measures to make sure it offends the least amount of people possible while pretending to say something larger, I’m sure the sales department was too afraid of the repercussions. So if you are looking for deeper meanings in this game don’t be surprised when you are met with an amazing open-world game that likes to poke and make fun of the political stereotypes of the political right.
The perceived demographic for Far Cry 5 is the same for its previous games: gamers who enjoy an open world first-person shooter and who love the idea of endless side quests with nearly unlimited possibilities of gameplay. If you are a fan of GTA V or Fallout 4 and can stomach the idea of losing interest in the game shortly after completing the campaign, then you will surely enjoy Far Cry 5 and its extremely interesting narrative and detailed open-world. Ubisoft definitely puts a lot of work and time into this release and I think everyone who is even remotely interested should give it a try because its story and gameplay are AMAZING.

Far Cry 5 is a weird game for me to score. While I thought the main world was huge and had a ton to do, and the graphics on a Xbox One X were absolutely amazing, the story is not that great and the amount of time you spend trying to fight dudes who just seemingly show up out of nowhere was way too high. The enemy spawn rate needs to be drastically reduced IMO. Anyway the story and theFar Cry 5 is a weird game for me to score. With the ending being very odd and not something I particularly enjoyed. I can kinda agree with the stuff that happens but it's hard for me to talk about without spoiling anything. I'd also like for a game that advertises open world exploring to not force the story parts onto you. It literally drags you to the next story mission in the middle of combat sometimes and it's very jarring.
It's a game that I'd recommend to people who really like FPS open world type of games. But the story might not keep your attention for long and might actually start to ruin the experience for you, like it started too for me towards the end. But there's enough here for me to recommend to people who might like these types of games. Prob for a discount however.

To start, Far Cry 5 is a lot of fun overall, but there are aspects of the game that make it feel more like a grind than a fps should.

As far as what is good, it has a decent selection of weapons, a large open map to have fun with, and a large amount of vehicles to take control of. It also has a cast of interesting characters ranging from the insane antagonists to the large cast of guns for hire/fangs for hire. The story is basic, but it keeps your interest for the most part. Of course, this wouldn't be Far Cry if it didn't have explosive combat. It really delivers on that front, but I have to say that it doesn't any more polished than it did in Far Cry 3. Another aspect of the game that I thought was lacking was the choice of weaponry. It felt like a re-hash of Far Cry 3's selection and a lot of the guns are just different versions of the same thing. The mods you can do to the weapons are cool, but I just wish there was more variety.
Some things I'm not too fond of include the silent protagonist. While it is cool that you make a custom character for the most part, it sucks to have someone who just grunts, screams, or does neither. I don't understand the thought behind it; games such as the Mass Effect series and even Fallout 4 had fully voiced over protagonists.
On the graphical front, the game looks good, but I did notice some draw distance issues, which for a game like this is hard to ignore. The missions were pretty good for the most part, if not a little repetitive. My biggest gripes with the story are the weird missions that have to do with the main antagonists and the ending of the game. The missions relating to The Father's three "siblings" range from a little odd to bizarre. This of course has to carry over to three of the four "boss" battles being more tedious than fun. As far as the ending goes without spoiling anything, it is weak and the game doesn't even end definitively.
All in all, its an entertaining game that can grab a decent portion of time if you let it. I was just expecting a bit more out of it than I got. Also, despite having two endings, to me there is very minimal replay value since this game has a decent bit of a grind feel to some of the missions. I would pick it up on sale to get a good fun to price ratio.

Far Cry 5 is exactly what you would expect from a Far Cry game and not much more. It does the open world really well, but the bland story drags it down. The game touches a sensitive subject, but doesn’t have guts to actually say something and couldn’t convince me even for a minute that what’s happening could be real. What the franchise obviously needs is a new beginning, a leap of faith Assassin’s Creed Origins was brave enough to take. [05/2018, p.56]
