I've played the stress test and 90% of the BETAs and this game is more Fallout. Yes, it uses the same ol engine (which has been graphically improved) and still relies on the PipBoy for it's menu system (also improved from Fallout 4) but is still a good Fallout game. Every Bethesda game has weird bugs and this is no exception as they've heavily modified the engine to incorporate multiplayer. The combat is mainly the same with the exception of VATS which just takes a couple minutes to get used to. The lack of NPCs is incorporated into the story beats which end up being conveyed via audio logs (a la Bioshock).

I've run into a handful of bugs (nothing game breaking [looking at you Red Dead 2]) but have overall had a great time wether playing solo or with a team. With lots of planned support, events, updates and fixes expected throughout the year, this may be a game that looks entirely different a year from now (looking at you Sea of Thieves). It's not going to be the Game of the Year, but certainly isn't the 1's and 0's that the whiny minority of the internet is claiming it is on here.

It has been a great add to my game library so far. It has its flaws but nothing game-breaking so far. I find it ironic, because this game is meant to be played with people, but I enjoy it most when I'm playing it alone. It's like being alone but not completely, and knowing someone might lend you a hand if they're nearby and you need it well, it's a plus to my experience playing it.

It's far from perfect, but this is day one. Being an online game means that it will be fixed often, so many of these flaws are more likely to be fixed soon, so this is no big deal for me right now. It's not a game for everyone, but it's definitely a game for me.

For an online survival MMO, there's nothing else like it on the market. Every single location my buds and I have visited so far has had an interesting story to tell. Every single location my buds and I have visited so far has had an interesting story to tell. Emotional holo-tapes (some several minutes long), notes, hand-written journals, terminal logs, and sentient robots all shed light on what life was like for past, pre-war inhabitants. Many times, their grim stories will even kick off a variety of small quests. It's a far cry from other survival games like Rust, Conan Exiles, DayZ, and Ark Survival that don't even HAVE quests, let alone much backstory. From what I've seen of the survival genre, the sole fact that FO76 is NOT Early Access already has me hooked.

Overall, aside from a few graphical bugs I've encountered, I've had a ton of fun surviving, exploring, fighting different enemies, building my own mini-base, and uncovering crazy secrets on the map. Even though it's not your traditional single-player Fallout RPG, the amount of content and systems at play in FO76 is staggering for an online survival MMO and can keep you and your friends occupied for weeks. If you're into PvE and Roleplay the West Virginia hills are vast and filled with NPC monsters for hunting and looting. If you're into PvP, there are always good bounties waiting on Hunter/Hunted Station radio.

Some sage advice from an old arcade player, if you're ever not sure whether a modern game is worth it's full price, rate it at $1 an hour. If you can get 60 hours of game-play from a $60 retail game, it's well worth it in my old-school, coin-operated book.

Now that that is out of the way, this game is, simply put, just really fun. It is built for multiplayer, but it can be enjoyed solo (I have played about 33 hours solo including the BETA), and its one of the most fun gaming experiences I've had. Sure it doesn't have human NPC's, and that take away from its personality, but it still has that Fallout touch in the non-human NPC's and the special moments that happen. At level 23 I went in a cave and had one of the most intense, fun moments I've ever had. The cave was filled with nuclear waste barrels, and I was half irradiated before I found a HazMat suit. With the suit on and no armor rating, I got in a fight with a level 30 Legendary (Or champion, the one with the crown, whatever its called) Alpha Deathclaw! Over a few minutes I whittled it down and finished it off with a plasma grenade, and when that thing died I was so excited I had to take a picture with it (the photo-mode is a great addition to the game).

This game isn't perfect, I've had enemies spawn in walls, a t-posing protectron saying Mr. Gutsy voice lines (I'm not joking, it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen), my camp has been deleted a few times, but its still a work in progress, and Bethesda is working hard to fix it. If you have doubts, nobody is forcing you to buy the game, but give it a few weeks and stop giving it a 0 score before you actually PLAY THE DAMN GAME.

But thats just my two cents, I know the game isn't for everyone, but you just need to stop expecting it to be New Vegas 2 and give it a chance, trust me, its worth the money :)

Theirs creatures old and new (Do remember fallout has the same enemies before) and I enjoy them. Weapons are still creative and I like the Idea that you have to trade with other people for high level gear. The cash shop is nothing but, cosmetic yet people still cry and complain that its a cash grab (Be glad its not like ESO were its actualy a cash grab) and you can unlock these points b just playing the game. Your game will freeze once in a while, you will drop down to 2 frames for 3 seconds, you will experience some glitches. When have we not factored that in with Bethesda? This game is freakin' awesome. I have been playing mostly solo. You people realize a 0 out of 10 game is a game that does not compile. This is silly. Basing a game purely on graphics is also silly. This game is worth the pick-up. Free DLC is yet to come and its already jam packed full of content. THere may be no NPC's other than robots, but the stories on the holo tapes are full of emotion. I forget the time when I play this game and I haven't felt that in a long time. This is all just me playing without a team. I then played with a team, and things got awesome. Have you ever watched funny montages of games on youtube where they play together? Everything you do feels like this. There are way too many experiences to be had with this game for a 1 out of 10. I haven't had many issues with the mass amount of bugs people are saying exist, not saying they don't, but it launched pretty on par from what I expect for most games on launch bug wise. A lot of people have been bashing this game hard as a "soulless cash grab" and "not fallout" like they were tricked, but it was pretty transparent the direction they were going since announcement, I think it gets a lot of hate because it's not the single-player story driven narrative Fallout fans have gotten used to, not going in with those expectations I thoroughly enjoyed this game as a hardcore Fallout fan. Secondly, a lot of the negative reviews are flawed, with some being complete lies. Many people who disliked the game (not all, but a majority), disliked it because it wasn't like other fallout games. That is complete nonsense. When you play a game, base it off of itself, especially when it's new. Also, a lot of the bugs that people have been experiencing, I personally haven't experienced.

Finally, what I think is most important, is you should ignore the reviews. Buy it if you think it looks good, don't buy it if you don't. Most reviews are entirely based on opinion, and you don't need to share your their opinion.

So, overall, great game, lots of fun stuff to do, even if it has a few unfinished aspects.

P.S. Anyone whining about the holotapes needs to get over themselves. In my opinion, NPC's are so much more annoying.

Great graphics, solid crafting, reasonable blend of VATS for a real-time world, so much content both audio and written, fun variety in the weapons. Sure I miss the NPC's, but I'm judging and scoring by what the game HAS and not what I (simply) like from the previous that is missing.

We can craft together in the CAMP, we can share resources and quest together, we can walk to the other sides of the map if we want. It's a fun simulator to see if we would really survive the end of the world together.

There's no NPC's, so what? We've played for 10 hours just exploring, crafting, and doing the main and some side quests. I don't know why everyone thinks there's nothing to do, they either have way more free time than I do to dedicate to a game, or they don't even own the damn game.

Even if I were playing alone there would be plenty to keep going, there's event's as well as the main and side quests.

The only bug's I've had are graphical, brahmin floating upside down or whatever, nothing that breaks the game. It's beautifully rendered as well.

The only real downside is the radio sucks, the songs are the same as Fallout 4 basically, and there's no DJ.

First of all, I understand all the 1 star reviews- this game is not like other Fallout games at all and is very much a niche game for certain types of players. It kind of reminds me more of Asheron's Call- exploration and staking area claims over any set story or overlying series of mandatory quests.

For me, I was not thrilled with this game the first day with the hunger, thirst and constant shortage of wood and resources while having heavy radiation poisoning with no Rad Away(s). However, all of that is quickly minor once in a few days and you explore. *SPOILER* You can set up camp right next to a farm and cook up 100 corn soups in twenty minutes of efforts that will keep you fed AND hydrated for days of play, with certain perk cards even longer. The further you progress and level, the less and less the annoyances of this game become, by design. Started out is a chore and then it quickly became fun (for me). Encountering other players has been a positive experience (for the most part on XBox). I solo but sometimes join a pickup group at one of the many active quest locations. I do not care to PvP yet so I enjoy giving people wanted tags when they want to persist to annoy, one day, I will be hunting them. Of course, some feel otherwise and hate this PvP system which I also understand. Again, no game will ever please everyone, each game is for a niche audience.

The reason I am not giving this game a 10 are the bugs. I cannot use power armor because my character is bugged which is major. You can't text chat and can either open mic or no mic/no hear. Camp randomly has to be reset sometimes which is very minor. Crashing after a death when loaded with junk is annoying but minor. Also, soloing is heavily penalized by way of groups getting full exp and loot from each kill they tag. And, grouping with friends allows one to overcome the ridiculous storage limit of 400 in your storage chest. It is hard to find your instance if you want to try and solo mule and drop items to an alt. You will quickly reach max storage even throwing out all worthless garbage, meaning discarding valuable resources you may well need later. So, a lot of early looting, scrapping, storing and eventually just throwing away. Somewhat pointless. With the perk cards, the perfect mule can be made, hopefully one day we can also have a shared storage chest amongst all characters so soloers can also mule as people can easily via their friends to alts. And, yes the graphics are dated and the game is still largely empty and full of the same items and baddies, just altered a bit-

All said, I'm just having a blast playing it, moreso than any other MMO to date and I expect lots more to be added and fixed by the next expansion.

Its buggy, but the bugs are definitely getting fixed. It is less like a fallout game in the sense that there are no human npcs, but more like a fallout game in that the world seems more grim, harsh and genuinely post-apocalyptic without them. If you like any of Bethesda’s other games or previous Fallout games such as Fallout: New Vegas this will definitely be a game to sink many hours into. With promising updates on the way and an already satisfying multiplayer and single player experience, Fallout 76 isn’t the dumpster fire reviewers made it out to be at release. Minor infuriating bugs such as creatures sometimes disappearing into the floor after killing them but before you can loot, or just general lag, but if you’ve played a Bethesda game before, this isn’t anything new. Maybe not the most inviting game for players new to the franchise but definitely a good new experience for existing fans. Expand

Though rocky at launch, this game has only gotten better over time. With an active community and consistent free content, I can’t wait to see where it is in the future.

But it’s hard to feel as if you’re truly affecting the world when there are no NPCs to express satisfaction or disdain, or to be directly influenced by your actions. Even killing feels hollow. Some of my best battles in Fallout 4 came when I stumbled across an outpost and found there a raider in there; he’d yell and scream at me as we were facing off. The Scorched, while armed, feel like nothing more than zombies.

The addition of multiplayer feels as though it comes at the expense of Fallout’s memorable story-driven moments. What good is a vast map full of players if they're given little to no purpose? When no other players are around, the game’s world feels almost empty. The attention-grabbing locales and landmarks add to Appalachia's charm, but it's difficult to not wish for living, breathing characters to inhabit it. Post-apocalyptic West Virginia is described as a wasteland, and this term paints an inadvertent but accurate picture of what Fallout 76 is right now.

If you enjoy multiplayer games of this type and are willing to overlook the engine anomalies, you may find yourself rapidly addicted to the game's exploration density and loot systems. If you're easily frustrated by bugs and issues, you may want to sit tight a bit to see what Bethesda does to polish things up, cus oh boy, it could use a bit right now. If you're a fan of the single player, branching narrative the series is known for, you'll want to wait for Fallout 5.
