The game has many bugs and issues and should be labeled as early access title. But exploring the huge world, collecting loot and finding new weapons and lore items is still very fun. If they fix the issues it could be a great game. The cosmetic microtransactions are very expensive (12-18 € for a skin).

Bethesda being well known for their glitches has in fact come in to 76 whether its a mission bug where you can't complete the game or forces you glitching through walls or enemies or not being able to sell items to vendors you will encounter tons of bugs. PVP seems to be extremely watered down i encountered one other person who was attacking me in the game decided to match off with him,he ended up killing me and was a very boring experience no fun or threat or loss of items really just some crafting materials your left with all your main stuff. How much you can carry is definitely a HUGE issue in the game i found only after 4 hours of playing having to drop rare and valuable guns and items just to make some room so your not carrying more weight than you can handle. I am really upset that this will be the last fallout game will see likely of this console generation and for the foreseeable future and hope when Fallout 5 comes out its the experience it once was. Maybe it will do a No Mans Sky and turn into something pretty decent eventually, but at launch this game should be avoided. It is currently drowning in problems both technical and creative and just generally feels like a game thats still in development and about a year off launch.

    - Lack of NPCs takes away a lot of the motivation to explore and pretty much kills PvE, especially solo.

    - Lack of NPCs takes away a lot of the motivation to explore and pretty much kills PvE, especially solo. All you're ever going to find is a holotape or note.

    - The PvP system is also quite poorly implemented. Anyone you attack will take drastically reduced damage unless they retaliate, the world is huge and resources are plentiful so theres just no real incentive to do it right now.

    - The world is ironically too much of a wasteland. Some of the environment design is decent but with no proper NPCs (other than protectrons, Mr Handys etc that have limited dialogue) and a very small amount of other human players around (relative to the size of the map) it feels like you're walking through an abandoned museum. Yes, its supposed to be post apocalyptic, but this takes that way too far.

    - The hunger/thirst mechanic is just an annoyance that gets in the way. You need to eat and drink far too often and of course most food/drink gives you radiation.

    - The game lags to absolutely preposterous levels as times. I'm talking literal slideshow.

    - A lot of times it feels like enemies simply materialised 5 feet behind you then darted at you at 100mph with absolute laser focus in a way that you couldnt possibly have pre empted. You can be in the middle of an empty field and then 2 seconds later getting swarmed by enemies that were nowhere to be seen.

    - Graphically its if anything slightly worse than Fallout 4 was.

It can be mildly entertaining for an hour or so here and there in co op with friends, but most things are. To reiterate - I strongly recommend you wait and see how (or if) Bethesda fix this game, and what they add to, before you consider buying it.

PS: Gotta love Bethesda spending time implementing microtransactions when the game has a myriad of serious issues that they should be working on first. Absolutely shameless.

I'm glad you don't feel robbed of 60 bucks (or 40 bucks now). This game is an embarrassment to the Fallout series as a whole. A soulless husk of a game with nothing more than re-used assets from Fallout 4. Terrible bugs and glitches that far exceed what fans have come to expect from a Fallout game. This is not the usual charming jank that are present in all Bethesda games. Crashes quite often, sometimes up to 3 times in as little as 2 hours, though I'm playing on the Xbox one s and not the X. Maybe it will play better on the X I don't know. The thing is though even if this was a perfectly polished experience that ran smooth consistently it would still be utterly boring. I was at level 12 I think before I decided to walk away for good and I rarely saw any players, and on the off chance that I did, none of them were even remotely interested in fighting or doing anything more than a wave as to say hello. Then again why would they fight me because even if they do kill me they get ABSOLUTELY nothing lol. There is no reason to fight another player. So co-op then right? Good luck getting a party together. You will spend 80% of your time getting it to work right. All in all this game is an embarrassment all around. Old engine, new engine, updated engine, it doesn't matter the game sucks to play and to even look at. How awesome would it be if Bethesda just gave the rights to Obsidian. Sure there were bugs in New Vegas but it was STILL one of the best Fallout games ever. If you are dead set on buying 76, do yourself a favor and wait until it hits about 20 bucks. Trust me it wont be long until it does. Expand

Glitches galore, unstable frame rates, major, MAJOR pop in, screen tearing, uneventful and stupid AI that goes from popping and spawning in anywhere they damn please to just freezing and looking at you at times in one place as you just pick them off. Remember NPCs? They are all gone. Now instead you have fetch quests. Even some as eventful as picking up a bottle...Instead of NPCs you are given quests through holo tapes and robots. What else is there to say about this game. Its a stripped down, dirty lazy, cash grab version of fallout. Its an online only, live service game with an outdated combat system that does not work in this online world. Dont let those people that spent their hard earn $60+ on this game and are defending it till no end and giving this game 10s fool you. Rent it first for yourself and make an educated decision before spending your hard earned money or just let Mommy and Daddy (grandma grandpa) buy it for you. A shell of a fallout game. A wannabe fallout game. A vast wasteland devoid of any meaningful things to do while trying to earn your cash through putrid micro-transactions. Im sick of this excuse. Fallout 76 should not come as a surprise to anyone complaining about the lack of human NPCs, this was disclosed at e3... so when you call it "empty" because of that, it is clear you either have not played at all, or played for 20 minutes but were dead set on hating it.

It looks like some of you should be thanking F76, especially YouTubers, because it has brought more attention, likes, and clicks, than anything else many people have done, congrats on your success, but you're all spouting the same complaints as the previous person.

Fallout 76 is bad simply because the game is unrefined and released way before it should have, whether that was Bethesda's or Zenimax's fault, it really does not matter, this game was rushed out and was designed to be a cash cow. Your fans did not want a multiplayer game, but were willing to try it out because of sheer loyalty, but this game is barely playable, due to abysmal frame rate, game-breaking bugs, uninspiring quests, useless pvp system, and an outdated engine... all of which could have been fixed, if more time was given to production.

There are some minor positives in this game that brought my score to a 4, simply, the new map is huge and has some interesting locations and biomes, playing fallout with friends is interesting and nice to finally experience, the lore is there in the form of terminals and holotapes which IS NOT FOR EVERYONE, but can still satisfy the most extreme of fans and is better to experience solo.

+ Nice, big open world to explore
    + Interesting environment/biome diversity
    + Some interesting lore stories
+ Good to finally experience Fallout with friends

    - Bugs, bugs, bugs
    - Poor frame rate
    - Outdated engine
    - Solo is still better than multiplayer
    - No incentive to participate in PVP
    - Micro-transactions are always bad
    - Rushed production, should not have been released in this state
    - Clunky hud and control scheme that is somehow worse than Fallout 4
    - Tarnished Fallout reputation for a quick cash in

Overall, as a Fallout fan, this is an absolute disappointment, and I am deeply concerned for the future of Bethesda's games, this looks like nothing but a cash-in to me, and I honestly wish Bethesda would just stick to creating single player games like they promised to with the Save Player One campaign that I have not forgotten about, for a reason. I have no doubt that this game could be improved in time, but this business of releasing unfinished games needs to stop, and now that it has happened to one of my favourite titles, I am incredibly disappointed in Bethesda, do better!!!

I love the world they have crafted. I like playing this with friends, which inherently makes the game fun for my personal expenses and possibly others.

I enjoy the 'survival' mechanics of the game and progression it provides to aiding your playstyle.

The innovations, where you have to scout out plans to craft your fortress, tho with some downsides but a good idea. The regions, another innovation giving all players places to go and fight to progress and not feel cheated at times, which again still issues. The settlement menu feels more fluid and easier to navigate, making it a joy to build, but that's all and now onto negatives. Now I'm level 37 and haven't discovered everything yet so the score could change but as it stands right now:

I hate stuttering. Never in my life have me and my mate felt so frustrated with a game where we enter a high-level area and the game decides to spawn not one, not 2 or even 5, but 15-20 enemies in the same locations. This threw us off and we were annoyed because it wasn't a quest to defend a workshop but the game-deciding to spawn in too many enemies that tho may seem to be a challenge, it stutters the screen. Even worse, they haven't addressed the automatic stuttering from the beta. Every time you fire an automatic, the game just starts to stutter and you end up missing a couple of bullets that could've killed them. I'm here trying to run a revolver and submachine gun build but can't cause the game decides to stutter. If this doesn't get address ASAP, this game isn't going to be as supported I'm afraid. My friend spoke on this in one of our sessions: What is a game with a beautiful open world to explore if it constantly lags on an ageing engine?

Limitations in the settlement are a pain in the ass. I get some of the premises behind it, being not being able to 'float structures' (to an extent) or building certain things. But you need plans for a rug, yes, a rug. Not the fancy bear ones but a simple rug. The budget is far too small or the budget cost for certain items like turrets and building is too much, either way, it prevents me from building a cool base for my mates and other players to hang out in the cause of the budget. Stash is also another issue. How the hell can i store items I may need later that are very valuable like most heavy guns and power armour bits if my stash had a limit? You simply can't.

Various bugs encountered, no surprise there. This one annoying bug has been really bullying my mate I play with and it's such a broken mess it drives him mad. The enemies that can melee him can do damage to him, even when it's not in range of him but still do the damage and he can't fight back, so he is basically fighting ghosts he can't kill. There are times where there would be naked versions for people characters that T pose, there are crashes which don't let you keep the workshops you claimed, the power armour skeleton glitch is back and many more I've not encountered but I'm sure you all have.

Having no NPCs for me is a big misstep in the wrong direction and makes the world empty, tho I can still play the game without them but it doesn't feel the same. All the charisma and flavour those NPCs had from previous games just made em so memorable and all were are here for is to listen to. I also don't like the linear quests, which is brought from fallout 4s story. Now I haven't done every single quest but from what I've done, it's all pretty linear. Do this, read that, kill it, listen, collect, defend all in its quest lines and now deviates from this formula that should've stayed in Fallout 4. But wait, its a "Fallout 4 multiplayer mod" as most tend to agree, where it has no NPCs and hasn't improved as much? maybe to an extent that your choice to decide.

Overall, Fallout 76 is an average experience for the player. If you like to play with friends, you will have a lot of fun with them. If you play individually, all the tools are there for you, but at the cost of losses, which you may not like. Though the game does provide good quality of life improvement and a rich world to explore, it is still plagued by issues of the creation engine with all the bugs and glitches that weren't touched and resolved. All I can personally say to Bethesda is this, "roll out weekly updates, patch issue consistently and keep making content, or else your game is going to suffer like it's starting.

But it is overly buggy, rendering is atrocious and the story is from dull to non-existent... The way the game runs is laggy, buggy, rendering is terrible even on a decent speed computer and the fact that the textures and look close up isn't much better than Fallout 4 worries me. Most of the textures and items had been copied over from the Fallout 4.
The game itself... The skeleton is there and I can see its potential, I hm not just here to **** all over the game, there is promise. The story is boring, not engaging and short, the side quests aren't very exciting and make me not care for the characters or lack there of... I think that the game could really benefit from NPCs, maybe add them into a DLC where they come from another vault. The format and the way the game plays seems not player friendly and rushed.
[I do like the new camera system, the idea of the field of view, the attempt at lighting and other experimental features... Also the nuke idea and the new monster are cool]

Overall I can't believe I took the risk and bought this full price, I am in shock and only play now because I feel I have to get my moneys worth.
I would advise against this game till it does a No Man Sky and does a 180 in a year, let us hope for its great future and hopefully Fallout 5

The whole MMO idea was great, but by removing EVERY human NPC (unless it's a dead body) was a really really bad idea, as reflected in the quest line, which is absolutely terrible.

The level of initial bugs was embarrassing, and this reflected in the game play. It was incredibly hard to play at times, with bugs like invisible enemies, environments not rendering, and quest lines not triggering correctly to name a few.

The map is fantastic, like awesome. It's huge, you'll never run out of places to find, it's really nicely designed, and just a very interesting place to explore. With a huge variety of environments and terrains, it's a really nicely done aspect of the game. It's just a huge shame the rest of the game lets the experience down.

I personally found that leveling up takes an absolute age... especially with boring repetitive quests, that don't really feel like they have any depth or interest at all. (Such as, find these objects, bring them here, or escort this robot to this location sort of quest) Like i've sunk 3 days of solid gameplay into it now somehow, and i'm not even level 50 yet. The special / perk system is also absolutely terrible. Fallout 3 had it perfect, Fallout NV improved on it, Fallout 76 took everything good about it and emptied it into a bin. It's a clunky confusing mess that really hinders your characters progression.

Item condition is back, which means your guns are now essentially made of paper apparently, with them breaking constantly. On the flip side, quite cool how condition has been applied to cooked food items / organic foods, as they can go off and spoil if not eaten in time.

The soundtrack (as in the atmospheric exploring music) is also great. Visuals are great, from landscapes to guns.

Overall, this game could've been absolutely amazing. It's just a shame it was botched so badly, meaning we got a really unsatisfying entry to what is a fantastic franchise. Can be fun if played with a few friends, but it gets tiring pretty quickly.

I dont usually write bad reviews, however I had to make an exception for this trash heap. Fallout 76 might just be the worst AAA game of 2018. Buggy, dated, and boring with next to no enjoyment to be found. It is sad when a fan mod does better then a AAA release, will not be preordering from Bethesda again.

First off, anyone giving this game a "10" are being completely dishonest and/or are trying to offset much of the low scores other users are giving this game.

Is this the Fallout that people loved? it is. However, it's like the kid voted "Most Likely to Succeed" and goes on to become an utterly hopeless junkie. They're still the same person, but just the worst version of themselves.

Is this the Fallout that people loved? it is. However, it's like the kid voted "Most Likely to Succeed" and goes on to become an utterly hopeless junkie. They're still the same person, but just the worst version of themselves.

Let's discuss the graphics first. The game is slightly better looking than Fallout 4, but isn't as polished. You'll see tons of clipping issues, and you'll also see tons of things floating instead of resting on the ground.

The gameplay for the most part is the same as Fallout 4, except they made VATS real time. VATS occasionally works, and when it doesn't it's frustrating. Like, when you have 95% chance to smash a Stingwing with your super sledge, just to hear the thump of the hit and see your AP go down and the Stingwing take 0 damage. Then you see the same result the next 4 times you try it. VATS is only really useful to close distance in Melee or to land a shot on an extremely agile enemy.

Then there's the stash issue, and the fact that they lowered the base carry limit from the prior games. So having strength of 10 only gives you 200 units of weight you can carry before you become encumbered, and they give you 400 units for stash. Not to mention, this game is set in the "survival mode" of the previous Fallout 4 and New Vegas. So everything has weight. Oh, and good luck trying to sell anything. Vending machines have 200 caps to buy, and yet you can't sell to them. Vendor bots and various traveling merchants have 200 caps available to buy and it takes forever for them to restock; and when you buy from them, only a small percentage of the caps are returned to the vendors available caps. Also, you can't sell most items. When you can, you get pennies on the dollar; even with max haggling perks, everything always is sold to you at a significant mark up. This inventory issue was the biggest complaint throughout the BETA, and it's unacceptable that it wasn't fixed prior to launch. I've spent 99% of my time in game over-encumbered and unable to fast travel. I've been super encumbered, and forced to crawl , for way too long. That's with weight reducing perks and other tricks.

Then there are the broken quests. How do I love having my quest giver reside on the SW corner of the map and my objective being on the NE corner and get to the objective just to realise you can't interact with the object in order to complete the quest. Then another you need to search an area and install a tracking signal; only to have the tracking signal stop working; and when you quit, you have no way to install it again, so you it makes finding the item like looking for a needle in a haystack. I've come across at least 3 quests with quest breaking bugs.

Death in Fallout 76 is like Dark Souls, just instead of dropping all your souls on death you drop all your junk in a, at times hard to see, brown paper bag with all the junk you've accumulated. Usually, when you try to retrieve it while you have a marker to guide you, you either get ambushed by some radically OP mob of enemies like Death Claws, Glowing Ones, Wendigo, Scorchbeast and Yao Gui. They also have a real problem with enemy and weapon balancing, which can be compounded by getting swarmed by the mob of top of the food chain. I hit a KIng Mirelark with 2 mini-nukes, and it may have only took 1/4 of their health; and it was equivalent to the level of the Fatman I was using. Yet, back to my point on retrieving your loot after death, if you die before retrieving it, good luck trying to find it then afterwards. You'll still 400 units over encumbrance. Also, people can take your stuff if they get to it before you do.

Bounty system is broken, and because of it there is no way to escape PvP. You can open a nonplayer owned box, that clearly doesn't have a player owned item in it, only to get a message that you have a bounty for stealing another player's stuff. Yet when you actually take another player's loot from a world loot box, you get nothing. If you have "pacifist" mode on, it's literally like stealing candy from a baby for anyone hunting you. You do significantly less damage and they can do full. So never, ever, ever, put on "pacifist" mode. Player's can still kill you, and they usually wait to wail on you while you're in someway indisposed so they can whittle you to death, if you never intend to engage them back; and then they get a bounty for murder. You get like 10 caps for a bounty, and basic ammo is like 5 caps each at a vendor.

Final verdict, is the game fun or have some redeeming qualities? Yes, it can be fun. Even with the "emptiness" and lack of civilized life, it has potential. The fact that they knew about these issues by no later than day 2 of the BETA and failed to fix it by launch, is why the scores, and mine, are so low.

Pros - Fallout with friends; very neat art direction including fantastic bosses; enjoyable C.A.M.P building
Cons - No story; very limited loot storage - this is such a huge issue in a game where looting and storing resources is paramount to the experience; regular crashes occur; terrible frame rates in high traffic areas; countless functionality and visual bugs; server hiccups

I remember the days when QA was imperative to the release experience for players, when regulations were in place, and games couldn't release until expectations were met. Have Microsoft and Sony softened their expectations to stay in play while indie, pre-beta "free QA" marketing campaigns thrive? It would make sense if this were the case considering the quality of Fallout 76. It's horse manure with a garnish of mutfruit.

I've not been a fan of the fallout games for very long, my passion for these great games and their interesting setting started in 2013, when I discovered Fallout 3, within moments of playing , I was in love with the series, and played New Vegas and 3 to death, even played 2 for a while. When I heard 4 was coming, I exploded with excitement, I was so happy the day I had Fallout 4 in my hands I could have died. Fallout 4 was a good game in my opinion, I was only slightly disappointed about minor changes. It was my least favourite I had played so far, but I still loved it.

But anyway, this year, when the 76 trailer dropped, I again, was ecstatic, I stayed up until 3 in the morning (Despite the fact I had exams next day) waiting for any news on 76, and I was really disappointed, but optimistic. I got the power armour edition this Monday, I had played some BETA, and the helmet etc was amazing, but, when holding the little steel book which the game was held in, I wasn't excited. Here's the pros and cons.

(This is what ive gathered from my 8 hours BETA playtime, and my 5 hours full game time)

    Pros:
Finally, a wasteland I can explore with my friends! (if my friends bought this game and weren't warning me about how crap the game was going to be)

    New lore! New places!

Meet new fellow Fallout fans! (Or a bunch of 10 year olds with all the spare time in the world to get power armour, new powerful guns etc, and trample over you when you say ''Hello!'')

(thats about all I can think of for pros)

    Negatives:

Fallout is a Role playing game, you cannot have this without exchange of dialogue. You cannot communicate with anything in game (Grafton Mayor for example) Though Fallout 4's 'Sarcastic' or 'No' dialogue options were lackluster, lazy and bad? Well, Now you cannot speak to anything in game, unless its another player, and theres a 99% they have no microphone, so you have to communicate with emotes. Weak.

Alone. You NEED a friend with a microphone to enjoy this game, otherwise its so lonely and deprived of any substance.

You need so many Caps its unholy. Whats that? You want to fast travel? 16 caps please. Whats that? you want this workshop? 60 caps please. You got killed? bye bye caps! In previous Fallouts, there were caps everywhere, and everything was free. Now I feel like Ebeneezer Scrooge, 'Do I pay 36 caps to teleport there, or do I walk?'

Brain dead story. With no Npcs to play with, your rely on the odd robot or holotape to tell you where to go, or to get an item. Boring fetch quests. Really Bethesda?

Welcome to Little Lamplight! Kids galore. Kids with no mics, roaming around in gangs, killing as they please because they have a **** ton of spare time to level up, get op guns armour etc. Anyone under 14, please go back to Fortnite. This game is suffering enough without sweaty children roaming the map.

Bugs are a huge problem, whether its textures loading painfully slowly (Fallout 3 looks like a work of art in comparison) or the servers lagging, or just some visual bug (A texture not loading for example) Bugfest 76 is full of glitches.

So much more. Vats, settlements, perk cards etc. I could go on for ages.

To summarise, what made Fallout great was its setting, and its genre. RPG. This Fallout is a shadow of its former self, if anything, this makes me want to just go play Fallout 4 again, to be reminded of what fallout is. This may be a good, fun MMO game, but its not a good Fallout Game.
I look forward to Fallout 5, four years away, with a mix of fear, and hope.

Seriously, just buy Fallout 3, 4 and New vegas and all the DLC's sor a fraction of the price, you will have a much better Fallout experience, wait until this thing is in the bargain bin, then you might consider buying it.

(The elder scrolls online was **** Bethesda, take a hint, Turning RPG story driven single player games and turning them into money grabbing, low common denominator sellout MMO's doesn't work.)

Don't buy this if you're a Fallout fan or want you money's worth, its a broken game and a lifeless world. The enemies are interesting and the world looks good for the most part but besides that there's not much about the game thats any good. Controls are still Bethesda-style clunky and downright terrible when compared to most other games released today. It's a half-baked exploration game with a Fallout skin, and that's about as deep as the game goes. This feels like it would have been good on the last gen, but on its own and especially comparing to other games out now you could be buying, the case for Fallout 76 is pretty weak. Expand

The game is a buggy mess, the world feels more empty then previous games. The game is disappointing and only somewhat fun with friends but this is not a fallout game. The "story" is disconnected but the quests are boring, easy and repetitive. Would prefer a single player fallout with co-op, this is just incomplete and a big mess.

But it’s hard to feel as if you’re truly affecting the world when there are no NPCs to express satisfaction or disdain, or to be directly influenced by your actions. Even killing feels hollow. Some of my best battles in Fallout 4 came when I stumbled across an outpost and found there a raider in there; he’d yell and scream at me as we were facing off. The Scorched, while armed, feel like nothing more than zombies.

The addition of multiplayer feels as though it comes at the expense of Fallout’s memorable story-driven moments. What good is a vast map full of players if they're given little to no purpose? When no other players are around, the game’s world feels almost empty. The attention-grabbing locales and landmarks add to Appalachia's charm, but it's difficult to not wish for living, breathing characters to inhabit it. Post-apocalyptic West Virginia is described as a wasteland, and this term paints an inadvertent but accurate picture of what Fallout 76 is right now.

If you enjoy multiplayer games of this type and are willing to overlook the engine anomalies, you may find yourself rapidly addicted to the game's exploration density and loot systems. If you're easily frustrated by bugs and issues, you may want to sit tight a bit to see what Bethesda does to polish things up, cus oh boy, it could use a bit right now. If you're a fan of the single player, branching narrative the series is known for, you'll want to wait for Fallout 5.
