IF you loved Fallout 3 and Skyrim, then you should love this. The freedom of play and immersion are second to none. The settlement building aspect, as well as the modding community, ensures the longevity of the experience. I have played this game for years and years,

The game had a few problems, which translated into a lot of damage. These problems, moving away from the roots of RPG and the imbalance between RPG and shooter, made it not become a top Bethesda game.
The problem of the dialogue system and the character not being silent and the very few choices of this game was very good overall game

I have done 100% of this game and I have to say I enjoy it. It has lots of content not to mention DLC my only problem is how badly polished this game is and how much it will crash in the middle of playing. Overall worth the money.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This was the one and only "next gen" version of Fallout 4 and you can feel it in the size of the world vs Fallout 3 and New Vegas.
I love how vivid and colourful the world is compared to those 2 Fallout games, it was a stark contrast and highly needed after being so bleak and dreary (rightly so for the circumstances but still).

I did not really enjoy the building a village part but it does add some additional realism I guess because our hero needs somewhere to live and some support to survive.

Another memorable storyline with a few unexpected twists and turns, it deserves a place in your library.

Perhaps I got lucky but it ran surprisingly well for a Bethesda game. Despite this, the game was very lacklustre in terms of story, gameplay and dated graphics. I was a huge fan of Fallout 3 and New Vegas but Fallout 4 just left me feeling disappointed. Bethesda’s strengths have always laid in exploration and world building but even the world of Fallout 4 became tedious after a few hours. Returning to this game years later to give it another go, I find that it is now completely unplayable on the Xbox One. Searching for answers online, it seems that back in 2018/19 Bethesda launched a vast amount of compulsory “updates” based around Creation Club (a feature most people never even wanted or asked for) which completely broke the game and introduced a wide array of crashes, particularly in the downtown Boston area. Not only did they break their own game, they then proceeded to abandon it shortly afterwards meaning they have left a shell of a game on the original console it was launched on. Let this be a warning to players before deciding on picking up any other future Bethesda titles. Those who have never experienced this game before, I highly recommend you give it a miss on Xbox as its current state is unplayable and Bethesda are very unlikely to ever return to fix what they broke. Although, for those who have never played it before, you’re not really missing out on anything. There are far better role playing games out there including ones set in a post nuclear apocalypse. I actually really enjoy to combat even though it is not incredibly polished. The crafting and building is so in-depth and addicting. The DLC's are all great and add so much to do. Far Harbor might be the best Fallout story yet. The humor in the game is also very funny. This is a game you can sink a ton of time into very easily. I fully recommend this game. The story starts pre-war, which is a phenomenal setup and a great start to go off of, however, it doesn't do a great job fleshing out the 'soul survivor's' motives in any real way. The player never really feels the loss of his son in the intro in any real way because the game didn't give us a reason to care. The intro sequence was brief and sets up the main character without really delving into his identity. (Although this is kind of a moot point because it is suggested in the far harbor dlc that the MC may actually be a synth.) If you're going to give a talking protagonist, make him a story. The key failure here is that Bethesda tried to make that cake and eat it too. The inventory is still clunky, you need to quicksave often to safeguard from crashes, and the gunplay is a bit dated, but what really shines is creativity with the workshops, npc connection, and side missions. (Aside from the settlement gigs). With every release of a new dlc or even functionality with the main game, bethesda found ways to introduce new and cool features to sink hours into, ie raider settlements and robot customization. Some of these needed to be a little more fleshed out, like the vault dlc, but the aspects they add to make the game more enjoyable really do make the game stand out. The story is, well, not that deep. It lacks some finer tuning and deeper emotional value than some of the previous games in the franchise with characters like Shaun and Preston Garvey being particularly overlooked and fundamentally disinteresting. However, the recovery of Shaun and DiMA's secret are two twists that really emphasize what aspects of the stories are good. The general plotpoints make the story worth fleshing out. It's like having a phenomenal storyboard and a so-so script. It just needs to be put together. The guns, robots, settlers, trade lines, settlement customization, VATS, mods, dogmeat, dlc content and faction diversity are all really great. Really the most revealing aspect of my Fallout journey is just how bad Fo76 is, because as average as this game is story-wise compared to all of the previous games, it is light years ahead of Fo76 in almost every conceivable metric. Fo4 is a joy to replay, a solid title entry, and an otherwise unique relic from a developer that has since completely lost their way. 7/10. Expand

For the record, I don't use any extra content apart from Bethesda's own official DLC and, as a somewhat technically savvy person, I have spent many hours trying to put an end to the constant crashing. Albeit, in vain. The game is a mess and since it is almost six years old, I very much doubt the crashing is ever going to end. Therefore, I strongly recommend that you avoid this game. Expand

In terms of pure gameplay, this is by far the best fallout in the series. I know New Vegas gets a lot of the attention, and justifiably. It's a great RPG. But Fallout 4 is a better *game*. I mean it's post apocalyptic the sims, people try to say as a criticism. What about that doesn't sound fun!?! I have probably a thousand hours of just building stuff in this game.

I've been playing fallout since the first one launched, 4 is my favorite in the series. Sure, the dialog got a bit gimped. Sure, the writing is kinda weak at times. But it's got the best npcs (Nick and Hancock being standout characters, and Nick being the first companion in fallout history to get his own dlc) and when it's good it's incredible.

Don't listen to the people telling you "if this is your first fallout, play 1. 1 aged terribly, and fallout fans are famous for absolutely hating the most recent game. It happened to 2, it was too casual and silly. It happened to 3, it was 3d. It happened to new vegas, it was a broken mess at launch. It happened to 4, "wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle. Not a real ar pee gee!" It's happening right now to 76 because 76 actually is a dog turd wrapped in 50s americana. And like the criticism of 2, 3, and new vegas, the backlash about 4 was totally overblown.

    This is a solid game all around, yes it isn't as good as Skyrim for a number of reasons;

--Too many boring go clear a building quests
    --Locations reused multiple times
    --Uglier terrain
--Nameless NPCs to 'flesh out' cities
    --Lack of location variety
    --Obvious copy and pasted areas
    --More bland infinitely generated quests

But it does come with a bunch of upgrades

--you don't have to level up a perk to unlock a perk, you are free as long as you meet the level requirement for that stat
--you don't have to go into a menu to loot containers and bodies
--your followers all have their own backstories, and as they get to like you they reveal a little bit of it here and there, until they ask you to go on a quest with them!
--completing said follower quest unlocks a perk
--there are multiple factions that actually oppose each other, you can't just join them all

There are also times it seems Bethesda didn't care about the game. When you clear out a location to build a settlement, the dead bodies stay there forever, and I am playing in 2021. You'll be addicted and frustrated. It feels so annoying and passive aggressive when they force a random event "kill some people for no real reason" missions to be selected and pop up on your HUD.

I had so much fun and i fell in love with the characters and i was invested in the story. Trying to find Shaun through the wasteland was the best experience i ever had and all of the side quests made the game last so long and it never got boring. Ignore all these people who get hard off graphics, this game graphics aside is a champion and i doubt there is a Fallout that could compare in quality of story. The sound of the game is amazing with just sitting around and hearing the booms or the bugs just makes it all feel the more real. Overall this game is the best around. Expand

The lore is very detailed and each location has some lore attached to it. Combat and gameplay feels good, and overall it is an upgrade from NV.

Settlement building was new to FO4 and I really enjoy it. It is one of my favourite things to do, gathering materials and then building my settlement, full of settlers, bars, stores, etc. Definitely a very rewarding thing to do.

When this game was released, I was head over heels in love with it. I sank over 50 hours into it in its first week of being released and that was when I was still in High School so that's kinda saying a lot. It seems like everyone loved this game upon release and started to grow bitter towards it once the honeymoon period was over, myself included. I stopped playing it and started to forgot just how much I really enjoyed it. This was a game that I asked to get for Christmas a second time just so I could get the Pip Boy edition so I really must've enjoyed it.

Upon revisiting it, it isn't a bad game. Not by any means. Fallout 4 is very good at doing things that Fallout 3 and New Vegas couldn't but the opposite is also true. Where 3 and New Vegas shine in things like roleplaying, world building and memorability, Fallout 4 shines in things like character customization, combat and building settlements. I enjoy the Fallout 4 for different reasons and while there are genuine issues I have with the game, I've decided to not let "it's not roleplay-y enough" be one of them.
I beat this game in November of 2015 and November of 2019.

The World is great, but it doesn't really feel like a Fallout game when almost everywhere there are humans. I would love to see more of a dying world, not a Fallout Renaissance.
The main story is great. I really liked it. But I didn't really get the point of the Institute, replacing Humans with robot Humans? Yeah, doesn't really make sense. Other factions are good tho.
The Variety of Enemies was fine, but I often just stood there and was shooting a gang of ghouls.
The Building is good once you know how it works. There isn't a tutorial for settlement building in game in which i was incredibly disappointed and challenged.
In Overall these issues were for me like a hair in the soup. The main problem of Fallout 4 is its almost unplayable state. On my Xbox One I experienced crashes every 2 hours.
Verdict: 9/10 if the world wouldn't be so peaceful and it wouldn't crash every 2 hours. 7/10

It's a great game. But, in comparison to Fallout 3/NV, it's almost like a few steps back were taken. For example, i find the loss of the original skill points system a bit of a flop, as with the new S.P.E.C.I.A.L/perk system, which just feels a bit sloppy. On the flip side, there is a huge selection of perks to chose from, which can all be levelled to your choosing, and with no level capIt's a great game. Game play wise, i love it. The graphics (Even on my low spec Xbox one) are a huge improvement over Fallout 3/NV, with great visuals and colouring. The shooting mechanics feel good, as well as the pip boy, map etc. Crafting is also majorly improved, as you can now tag the objects you need to make a certain mod for a gun, amour etc.

I enjoyed the quest line, if anything i found it to be a little bit too short. It's not quite as impressive as the Fallout 3/NV quest line, but enjoyable none the less. Side quests do get very repetitive however, but with the addition of a few good DLC's this changed my view on the game a fair bit.

Overall, it's a good game. It's got the odd classic Bethesda bug here and there, but it's a very enjoyable game none the less.

I expected this game to be very action packed and have really good depth and detail in the scenery and I expected it to have a very intriguing storyline and very addicting character personalities. I expected to be fighting radiated corpses due to the trailer including the scene of a nuke dropping and the use of the fallout shelters. I expected to find companions and explore radiated villages. I was hoping for a really big map with a lot of secrets creating for heaps to do and I really wanted to discover more fallout shelters and find other survivors like your playable character is. I was Sort of expecting to see some massive radiated beasts due to it being a game needing bigger bosses and enemies to battle.
The plot for this game is first of all set in the future and you start off in a happy couple where you can choose to be the female or male and you have a robot assistant who alerts you of the news on their television. Shortly before this happens a man approaches their door and informs them about joining a company called vault tech. This company provides the signed up people of a place inside a radiation-protected place to survive a nuclear explosion.

For example I've been playing shooters in which your character really has fast reaction times. With Fallout 4 it feels like your character's reflexes are moving slowly like he's underwater. It just doesn't feel responsive and quick. The shooting action and movement seems lethargic. I realized early on that I wasn't going to like this game when I shot a raider four times in the chest at point blank range with a 10MM pistol. And he wouldn't go down. Your enemies are always stronger than you and they are bullet cushions. Ammunition is always in short supply because only head shots will bring them down. So you'll spend a great deal of your time just looking for ammo. Also, what passes for a weapons wheel isn't a wheel at all. You're instructed to pick up a laser cannon to defend the museum but it doesn't show up on the weapon selection when you do. A weapon selection wheel is supposed to show all of your inventory. Every other modern game has a detailed weapon wheel. But not Fallout 4. And every other modern game on Xbox One has the "B" button designated as "crouch." Not Fallout 4. As such the controls are unfamiliar and clunky. The controls and menus differ so far from other games as to be alien. Fallout 3.5 is more accurate. It's Fallout 3 with better graphics plus a poorly conceived base building addition which seems like it was cobbled on at the last minute. I completed it so must have enjoyed it but no part of the story sticks in my memory. A big disappointment.

Really enjoy the mods on console, it isn't a true RPG game though, but in a overall it's fun to waste time on.

I mostly have a love-hate relationship with Bethesda but eventually grow to love the game once I relax and let the game be different to the one that preceded it. The worst example for me was Skyrim- it has taken me five years to even begin to enjoy it. But, I digress- onto FO4.

The game was quite average out of the box but made brilliant by the addition of mods on the Xbox. Thanks to Beth and the awesome PC community that have really made this game rock. I was able to correct those little annoying parts of the game that stopped short my enjoyment. Things like timescale, radio stations, enhanced blood textures, weather, moon replacement, smoking, layered armor over all clothing, darker nights, campsite, shelf clutter, shotgun, desert eagle and chinese rifle, reverb audio etc have all made the game fantastic.

Moving on from Washington Beth have given us a Boston take on the post apocalyptic life, hunting in the ruins of a fallen world and struggling to survive. Well, that is how it should work, except we can also level our character 100 times and turn them into a demi-god. Lol.

    Pros-
    Nice game world to explore
    Mods
    Fun combat
    New upgrade system for weapon/armor
    Locations respawn
Balance of weapons and gear is much better than FO3
    Far Harbor atmosphere is awesome
    Super Mutant suicider
    Folllower quest stories
Rain audio changes when under shelter
No rain through solid objects. Finally!
    Power Armor is well done
I like the way radiation lowers health bar
The freedom of choice to role play and ignore quests

    Cons-
Only 2 gig of mod space.
Too many fetch and carry quests
    Creature texturing is too smooth
Condensed map and low number of satellite towns
Disappointing radio stations. Both in songs and number of stations. Crap!
    Season pass was a rip-off
Followers block you every time you walk slowly
    No centaurs!
    Shotgun/combat rifle use same skin
Minutemen lore and quests were connected to settlement building

The Bethesda style of story writing is something I will not comment on as the quests are only a reason to travel across the map and explore. The game is all about role play and exploring. People can rightfully complain about it but that is the truth. And no doubt my high score comes from me loving the Beth style of freedom and exploring for hours on end.

I enjoyed the voice dialogue as the female voice over was really well done ( I have not played a male yet) and I would be happy enough to see it return again. But, Beth, please, not in Elder Scrolls. A male and female for every race would be overkill. Written dialogue is fine.

I was also happy enough with the settlement building as that was one aspect I always wanted to do in FO3 but never got a chance to do so. Waaaay too much DLC was dedicated to settlement building though. I really hated that.

The only DLC I have not played yet is Nuka World. I was hoping that we could join and play an evil faction but reading the reviews I am not sure that they pulled it off well.

My game crashed to the start up menu probably once every 10 hours of gameplay so that is something to consider if you install too many mods on the Xbox. It was worse in the downtown area with all the extra textures it has to load.

Game Content- 9 out of 10
Fun Factor- 7 out of 10
Overall Rating- 8 out of 10

I would only have rated Game Content 7 out of 10 without mods.

Fallout 4 is an extremely fun game to play with interesting story line, enjoyable quests and amazing DLC. I definitely feel it was worth its 60 CHF price tag, it kept me entertained through its replayability going through the different factions storylines and the very good DLC. Adding mods was also a great step that meant people could enjoy the game in even more ways.

Fallout 4 is an amazing game, and I would recommend it to anyone. It has a good story line, great game play, and has so much content for you to explore. It also features some very good DLC, such as Nuka World. Amazing game.

Fallout is a fantastic Rpg that has seen many transformations over the decades. Since Bethesda acquired the Fallout IP in 2007 the series has stayed as a first person shooter. Many fans prefer fallout 3 to 4 but not me. 3 is fantastic, and it's no secret that 4 takes a step back, but the combination of gameplay, characters, and story make 4 the best Bethesda fallout game.

Awaking to a neighborhood on the brink of nuclear fallout was mesmerizing to me. Bethesda nail this opening sequence and it sets the tone for the rest of the game. You exit the vault and begin your journey through the wasteland, and what a marvelous journey it is.

Walking through the wasteland listening to glorious 40s and 50s music on the radio is fun and frankly never gets old.

Fallout 4 is a splendid game with good graphics and new features and the mod menu and dlcs to the game . The power armors are not like the wearable ones in Fallouts 3 and new vegas. It feels like a tank. Totally playable. But the story is an exact copy like fallout 3

It's big, fun and buggy, but then what game isn't buggy that Bethesda make. It's a good RPG and a solid FPS which certainly helps bump up the score on combat. Graphics are a bit outdated but then what Bethesda game doesn't have outdated graphics

I know a lot of people dislike this game, and I'm sure they have their reasons. However, I played it through to completion a couple of years ago on the PS4 and enjoyed it fine.

I'm 80 hours in and haven't even gone to Diamond City yet. The settlement building aspect doesn't appeal to me, but I ignore it. Just wandering around the wasteland, stumbling across quests both serious and ridiculous (Silver Shroud, Cabot House), is a blast. FO4 scratches me where I itch.

Great game, but not an RPG. The RPG elements in Fallout 3, and Fallout New Vegas where pretty good. I also love the look of Diamond City, and the whole map looks very fitting. Looting's great, and vats are better then ever. The DLC is very good, but a bit overpriced. And I do love the building in it. Overall, good game, I just wish there where more RPJ elements in it. Expand

Sometimes beautiful, a bit broken, and really quite brilliant in many places, forgiving fans will adore Fallout 4. [Christmas 2015, p.60]
  3. More Fallout 3.9 than 4, but still absolutely essential. Skyrim 2 has a hard act to follow. [Jan 2016, p.67]
