Fallout 4 is probably the best fallout game thats been made. It is definitely the fallout with the most features, the best graphics, and the most content overall. I love the edition of survival mode which adds additional difficulty and complexity to the game, making it truly feel like every descision you make while playing can have serious consequences. Its thrilling to run away from an enemy that would usually not kill you in a couple shots that you know might be able to one hit K.O. you and delete a chunk of progress. As great as the game is and as enjoyable as it is, it has some serious flaws that need to be addressed. The aiming feels clunky and its hard to be precise with your shooting, thankfully vats compensates for this issue but it definitely ruins some of the immersion. Additionally, even though this game has been out for about 3 years , it still is a bit laggy at times even though I am playing on an Xbox One X. Whats even more frustrating is that the game still froze for me once while I was playing , deleting an hour of gameplay since I am playing survival mode and can only save at a bed when there is one available. I got this game on launch and it definitely has improved since then, but at this point I expect the game to run flawlessly given 3 years of time and playing on an improved console. Overall, its an awesome game and really tons of fun, its a game you can easily get sucked into and lose track of time. Expand

I am a really big Fallout fan I started out playing Fallout 3 then played Fallout New Vegas and then I went on to play Fallout and Fallout 2. Really Fallout 4 was the first game I got for my PS4 and really thought it could be a really good Fallout game. Really I felt it was a little dumb down maybe for new coming Fallout players. Either way I kinda felt the enemies were made a bit too easy in fact there is a death claw very close to the start of the game that you just kill really easy, if this was one of the older Fallout games a death claw would really kill you and the thing is death claws were a bit more smaller than they are in this new Fallout game. Really and it's not just the fact that I hate the game just for one enemy I really felt they could do a little more to help out with the story of Fallout 4. There are a few things I like about this game like the fact that your health is now effected by how much radiation you take on so you have to keep your radiation low to make sure you keep in good health. Back in the older Fallout games if radiation got to 100% then you were dead and it didn't effect your health at all. I just feel like it makes more of a penalty for having radiation so you are more likely to avoid radiation. And don't get me wrong this game is good it's just not what it lived up to when it comes to older Fallout games. Expand

With the recent advent of Fallout 76, I wanted to cover this game before I jump over to the next entry.

The presentation is actually alright but nothing special compared to other games that came out the same year.

I heavily disagree with people calling it the worst Fallout game because Fallout Brotherhood of Steel exists and was once canon...

Overall, not a bad game but is heavily held back and can get repetitive once the main game is done. A great start for people interested in the Fallout Series but for veteran RPG players, it isn't a good option over New Vegas and Fallout 3, 2 and 1. Where Bethesda plans to take Fallout with Fallout 76 is still a mixed debate.

It's absolute garbage; Bethesda should be ashamed.

As a kid I used to play Morrowind on the PC, Watching your modding community flourish around the Construction Set was beautiful. The game itself didn't need character narration; the game was smooth, the characters were well thought out (Vivec, Dagoth Ur still bring a smile to my minds eye), There was a massive depth to your plot back then it seemed. I could depend on dropping into this RPG for hours at a time; if even just to play around with different cheats or spells for sillies. ( or even better mods from the community)
With Fallout 4 . . . on Survival. . . I hope you realize your engine's bugs crash the game every 30m - 2 hrs consistently right? yet the game of the year edition came out and i see no updates fixing these issues. . . seemingly you want everyone seeing a loading screen (laments; fast traveling in lower difficulty with a smaller loot tree)
every 30 min or the game will crash due to zone renderings, or any # of other immersion breaking issues.
( i have had cars thrown into me by companions instantly killing me, even discovered running into said cars sitting still can be fatal. . .)
I am sure every player has noticed falling cars from highways and other needless animations that bug up the engine, when all we did was max-craft our character to run fast through the zones (because minutemen) and here we are, un-immersed, probably broke due to the expansions/skins, and nothing to really show for it except our Bethesda Fandom. . . & all the aforementioned hours spent in a broken game you refuse to spend any time(or $) fixing . . . despite how much money we have literally just thrown at you.
I can't even fathom how much you probably make off these ripoff's you call creations in your club but it is downright despicable how you went from a Construction Set to a Creation Club. . .
& you think your better than EA. . . Tsk, tsk.

Watching the hype following your latest presentation at E3 I am feeling all sorts of deja vu when compared to f4's hype.
I am not enthused, I am not excited.
I am mildly disgusted and sad to see a great company brought so low by it's shareholder greed.

Until you start acting more like Cd Projekt Red
(you know a responsible game developer that keeps it's audience in mind, doesn't give in to corporate greed, and seemingly loves doing what it set out to do in the first place; creating)
I won't be buying your games. I am done. You gave up on me. Us.

Worst game in the franchise: Very tiresome, boring, and character interactions are lame. The plot in this game is dull and it's the same map as previous games with nothing fun but agitation. Disappointment of a game, no good story at all, the beginning, however, was okay.

I'm a total fan of Fallout, but this one has disappointed me a lot. Compared to Fallout 3 and New Vegas, it loses almost everything despite being a next gen game. And they have incomprehensibly decided to eliminate many of the things that made this saga great.
Of the bugs I do not even speak ... just say that I've had them of all types:

Sudden expulsions to the menu losing the progress you have not saved, hang up the game that made me turn off the console, missions that do not start, continuous failures in the map marker (with what that means in a giant map like this) failures in the Nuka World DLC that prevented me from finishing it, etc etc etc ...

Conclusion: in this way Bethesda loses loyal customers who feel deeply disappointed.

Is this the best Fallout game? No. Is this the best RPG Fallout game? No. What it is, is a very well designed open world fps, to be completely honest. There are some minor RPG elements here and there to keep it in the category, but most RPGs these days are significantly dumbed down.

    Positives:

    - Great and expansive open world
    - Excellent gunplay mechanics (You can finally aim down sights reliably)
    - Fun settlement building system (better with mods)
    - Good character building system (perk chart)
    - Good DLC content
    - Replay value
    - Some great characters
    - Expansive mod list (Xbox & PC only)
    - Fun to play

    Negatives:

    - Dialogue wheel is just unnecessary with limited options
    - Story is weak, along with some of the characters, especially yours
    - Missing some major rpg elements
    - Repetitive side quests (shut up preston)
    - Typical rpg bugs and crashes
    - Mehh graphics

Overall, IMO, Fallout 4 is a worthy successor to NV in the fallout series. I do not believe it is better than New Vegas, but it is certainly worthy of carrying the name. A good effort overall by Bethesda bringing the series to the next gen consoles and hopefully the next instalment will include more rpg elements with the positives of this game, because that would be an amazing product. Something to build on for the future. 83% = 8/10.

The graphics aren't that impressive for 2015 standards, but are passable. The noticable frame rate drop (especially during combat) becomes detrimental to my enjoyment and immersion, but this is only an infrequent occurance. Furthermore, the story is unoriginal and average, as it is inferior to the storyline and plot that 3 and New Vegas had presented to us; it is still decent though. The soundtrack doesn't distinct itself much from Fallout 3 but is still quite mesmerising to hear. There are good improvements to the gameplay mechanics of the game, for example, the VATS system. Previously, when you entered VATS, you could you use it as an alternative pause menu, eliminating the sense of urgency. But now, it has been altered to slow motion, creating a better yet subtle sense of said urgency as well as giving the player enough time to make decisions. Despite the improvements to things like gameplay mechanics, the game doesn't innovate from previous titles in all other major aspects. It feels like a slightly-improved and rehashed version of Fallout 3. You can even say it is inferior to it, especially in terms of story and RPG elements. However, the immersion factor really saves the game for me; the world is huge, and full of mysteries yet to be uncovered. There were even a few landmarks that caught my eye. All in all, I think this is a good game but plays it a bit too safe for it to deserve a higher score. You may either like it or hate it, depending on what you seek in video games. The combat is vastly improved, having an almost COD feel about it. While that may be a negative to some, it's a positive for me since it adds fluidity to the combat and even the feeling of just walking around. The map in this game is fun with many places to explore and many enemies to fight. The graphics are a vast improvement to the prior two games (Fallout 3 and New Vegas), especially coming from playing those games on the console only. One of the bigger additions to the game was the addition of a voice actor to the protagonist. I thought it added a bit of depth to the game and story. Speaking of which, the story was pretty good, maybe not as good as Fallout 3, but it didn't bore. One of the positive aspects for me was the ability to continue playing after the completion of the main story, which was a big gripe I had with Fallout New Vegas. Some of the things I didn't like about the game as much had to do mostly with the power armor updates. It was cool that they added new features to the power armor from the previous games, but having to get fusion cores for the armor to actually work, was a bad idea in my mind. While some may not like the deletion of the morality system (and I am one of them) and the wear of the weapons and armor, I have to say that some ideas are better than others. After putting more than 85 hours into this game, I came to the conclusion that it is a well made game that kept me entertained for hours on end, and it didn't have as many flaws as people made it sound like.

Fallout 4 might not be very technically advanced, but it’s a game full of charm and substance, which makes up for an ageing Creation Engine. Fallout 4 boasts an incredible world full of intrigue, mystery and suspense, backed by a whole host of weird and wonderful characters. It’s a world you’re going to want to go back to, time and time again.

Not quite as good as 3 or New Vegas even with the new editions added to 4. Still a good game but lacks in the storyline department. I like the new base building and with all the DLC's now added it has a lot more to offer than it did at launch. Could of easily been a 10 out of 10 game but a one time shock value storyline does not offer much incentive to replay.

And am over level 60 already. Any kind of game that allows this kind of investment in time, and enjoyment, gets the thumbs up in my book.

Sorry just one more thing. As to the glitches, they are not game breaking, but are built in to the game mechanics. Perhaps with the exception of if you kill a vendor, everyone will attack you. But the idea that you can buy materials, and build with them, and then scrap and rebuild. As well as build water purifiers and pumps, for free resources, which replenish at periodic intervals, is really a great formula, which is hard to beat.

On the positive side for me, it is a vast open world and you are pretty much free to do as you please. The first person view & controls are decent but I cannot get used to some of the button assignments on the controller. Graphics to me are reasonable. I don't think having higher resolution garbage/waste to look at would improve things much. Many weapon styles to choose from and to some degree you can tailor your perk points for different styles of play. I have been basically crash free and the quick save feature is nice (if you remember to do it once in a while).

Where it falls short to me:

    * NPC's are awful (to look at, talk to, listen to)
    * Inventory management overwhelms play time
    * Weapon mods improve weapons well, but renames them and they are lost in my pip-boy (see item above)
    * The naming of armor,/weapons in general makes it a chore. All names start with adjectives instead of nouns.
    * Interacting with NPC's generally requires spamming the 'A' button (or more patience than I have)
    * My character is a complete dork and generally looks like a fool in his mismatched outfit of junk
    * Romance option? With these NPC's?
    * Monetary system (caps) seems pointless. I never seem to actually buy or sell anything.
    * Really don't care for the old style dumb terminal pip-boy/computer interface (map, inventory, hacking, etc.)
    * Just too gray, dark, dismal, littered for me.
    * No rhyme or reason to damage levels. A big mosquito should not survive multiple .50 cal. sniper hits.
    * What actually is the main story? To recover my son that I bonded with for 13 seconds?

Well, It could have been 9 or even 10, but there are some stuff you just can't ignore that drops the score.
Massive Open World with tons of stuff to do: exploration - at first it fells overwhelming, the map is very large with lots of location to visit. each indoor location is huge by itslef with multiple rooms and floors and sometimes only one side mission location can keep you busy for couple of hours.
Combat - it is OK could be a lot better but it is OK. the weapons feel overall good and uniqe, 1st person3d person are both fine, AI is unsurprisingly dumb and embarrassing which brings me to the challenge aspect: the only difference between the games difficulty levels are the enemy's HP, so essentially the hardest difficulty will bring same dumb enemies only with ridiculous amount of HP and that's it. stealth is unbalanced in way that sometimes you stand right in front of enemy and the idiot cant see you and other times moving slightly fast across the other side of the room will instantly trigger the enemy.
build your own settlements, basically build you own town and manage the resources and settlers, what food to grow which areas to build defenses which point to assign settlers to defend and more - not a big fun of those but still found myself not once building an elaborate settlement which took sometimes a few days to finish. no doubt there is tons o fun to have there.
customize Weapons and Items - each weapon and item in the game is customizable, some more than others but the variety is large and can fit many different playing styles. the only main problem with gameplay wise is the lack of diversion in mission design, a lot of them feel the same not to mention the majority of the side missions which are basically the exact same mission only in different location. never the less, it never gets old shooting an upgraded Rail-Gun and watching your enemies heads explode in slow motion with blue and green glowing fireworks coming out from the remains :D :D :D

    B. Graphics: 7
    The Bad:
there are numerous graphic bugs and glitches which makes the game look goofy at times and kill the immersion. enemy units and NPC units lack of variation and they all look the same with colorsize difference or clothing difference for the NPC's, no creative work what so ever in that section. other than that, generally the graphics doesn't fells that it belongs to a 2015 AAA Game.
    The Good:
the open world looks and feels very atmospheric and immersive with each different area having a different vibe and feel to it. weapons have a variety with unique and somewhat creative design for each one and overall are looking not bad, dynamic weather is pretty good, player customization is huge and you can basically create anyone, really!

    C. Audio: 9
Job Well Done Here! the soundtrack is very unique and fits perfectly to the game which contributes greatly to the atmosphere of the games world and never fails to be exciting. Voice acting is not bad, although the female protagonist "acting" is far better than the male one and there could be a bigger variety of choices for what to say during dialogs. the radio is Amazing, the talk show is funny and the classic 50's-60's song selection is awesome and will get stuck in your head long after you finished playing.

    D. Story - 7
The story is good for the most part, although the huge open world and a very long To Do list sometimes can distract you and make you forget about the plot but never the less it is good and interesting overall.

    E. Content Vs. Value: 9
well to put it short: this game can keep you busy for easy 100 hours and that's without even doing the settlement building stuff. also the option to add mods can basically make this game a never ending experience.

    F. Controls and Mechanics: 7
the controls are good for the most part. the layout is pretty good and the controls are responsive, the problem is in what its lacking: no cover system. no climbing system whatsoever, if you can't jump there you can't get there which is a big shame because there is a good sniper gameplay to have here.

    G. Stability and Performance: 1 Horrible and unacceptable
Well, here is where everything good about this game goes out of the windows and makes it one of the worst gaming experiences I have ever had.
where to begin? the most annoying part is that surprise surprise it crashes a lot, A LOT ! sometimes up to 6-8 times in a couple of hours sitting, so have fun saving your game every 5 minutes because you never know when its going to crash. then there are the constant fps drops, stuttering, screen freezes for 2 seconds, videoaudio goes out of sync. settlement build is constricted to small ones only every thing beyond will result in single digit FPS. loading times are the worst possible every entranceexit to indoor location will have couple of minutes worth loading screens same for loading games.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fallout 4 is an excellent game. The graphics, sound effects, music, open world environment are fantastic. But, it struggles to be an excellent 'Fallout' game. The problems that this game faces are not easily spotted unless you have played previous titles. And it is through comparison that the issues creep in.

The number one issue is by and large the dialogue. Not what is actually said, having played over 25 hours so far I have heard enough of it to see it as 'ok', but rather how it fits into the setting and story. Your character, unlike in previous titles, is completely new to the world. (Thawed out of a cryogenic tube 200 years after the nuclear war and released into a completely new and destroyed world). But through the dialogue with both major and random NPCs your character is barely fazed by any of this. The dialogue options occasionally point to a 'what are super mutants/gunners/brotherhood?' option if it has been mentioned by an NPC but your character isn't fazed by anything that is said and it takes you out of the setting because your character already knows what is/has happened and characters met before they logically should. Furthermore, the dialogue options force you to take the 'good guy' approach to almost all situations with the 'bad' option essentially ending the conversation till you agree and the other two, more info/sarcastic, options adding nothing.

My second issue, is the combat. There is so much combat in this game! Dialogue, quest, randomly walking through the wasteland all you do is constantly fight people. You never get a sense that you are in a post-apocalyptic world, rather a random destroyed city with roaming gangs. Gouls for example, the mutated remnants of those not lucky enough to find a Vault to hide in, aren't found in dark subways or tunnels away from people but walking around in broad daylight, randomly, everywhere, just so you have something to kill on your way to the next quest.

Other things such as perks being completely removed, useless companions, crafting (although fun especially with weapon add ons) gets frustrating for lack of materials and more fetch and kills quests than you can shake a stick at make the game a dumbed down version of previous titles.

If this is your first Fallout game you'll love it which is why I gave it a 7 and not lower, but for veterans it will be nothing more than a nostalgia trip, ticking the boxes of deathclaws/power armour/vaults/gouls and so on (all of which you'll find within the first 30mins completely ruining the anticipation of bigger/better enemies/gear to come).

Overall, fun, even for vets, but empty your brain first, newbies with enjoy a lot . . . 7/10

Bethesda killed the immersion of a well-written dialogue system, which kept me so engaged and immersed for literally thousands of hours in previous FO games.. Story is such **** that I turned off my xbox one 44 hours in and haven't been back.
They also lost the 50's apocalyptic feel of previous titles. They took my beloved series and crammed so much mass appeal into it that I fear the franchise is just going to be game after game of similar b******t, churned out COD fashion every couple years.
I will not spend money on DLC. The game has little replay value, unless you really love pointless, shallow grinds with unending slaps in the face every time you have to dialogue with NPC's.

After everything that made Skyrim, and previous FO's great, I have lost my faith in Bethesda with this offering. I am not even angry...just overwhelmingly sad.

I couldn't finish it because I lost direction of the main quest and got sick and tired of rescuing the settlers. (I absolutely loved Fallout: New Vegas and even though it was open world too it made sense.) Inventory control was just so tedious and painful. I found someone's flow chart of the main quests, faction quests, side quests, etc. and how they tied together and the complexity sickened me. Felt happy when I accepted that I just wanted to quit--and did. With an average user score of 6.2 this game is a loser. Also...I picked Nora and wanted to rescue her baby. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Continuing on with Bethesda's control over the license of the Fallout franchise is their third dive into the world, or in this case, the fifth main title, Fallout 4. Faults with the first attempt at Fallout, such as the poor, drab graphics, repetitive textures, lack of weapon variety, and simplistic morality system have been fixed in Fallout 4, albeit, bring new problems of it's own. The world of the Commonwealth is seamless and has a emphasis on huge and expansive: roads actually look like they were once driven on, especially the sprawling highways and overpasses that hang over places like Boston or Lexington, instead of Fallout 3's single car overpass and highways that go to nowhere for no reason. Attention to detail was this games main focus, from the details inside and outside the buildings, to the ammo, the weapons, and the armor, giving them a more practical look that coincides with their ammo type. As for said weapons and armor, they have expanded through means of the crafting system, expanded upon the weapon mods from Fallout New Vegas; you can add powerful recievers, silence weapons, add beam splitters, and change the fire rate of certain weapons, as well as adding extra buffs to your armor as well. The same goes for Melee, although to a lesser extent. Armor components also deride on different parts of the arm and legs as well, rather than just simply being an outfit and a helmet from FO3. Which brings me to the Power Armor.

Power Armor by far has been the most changed aspect of the previous game, now serving as a sort of 'Gundam Suit' rather than a heavier variant of the Outfit/Helmet set from FO3. You can add different parts of different power armors, from the weak T-45A to the most powerful X-01 power armors. Not only that, but like with basic armor components, you can add extra buffs based on what materials you have as well as what paints are available, which brings me to crafting. Collecting useless junk is actually useful compared to FO3, which only served to increase your cap rate, which by the way, has been balanced quite well in this game where you won't have 900,000 caps and nothing to spend them on. Shipments, ammo, guns, trading shops will all drain your cap amount significantly where you will have to consolidate said resources, so looting areas doesn't become a matter of collecting that one unique from said area.

Although, here comes the first big negative. The Settlement System. Now, the settlement system was a good idea at the start: give you the opportunity to make civilization thrive again, but the micromanagement of 20+ separate settlements with settlers who will never be satisfied no matter if you have 5 different medical stores to keep happiness up, so you will be running from pillar to post to expend all your junk and caps to make more pointless stores to keep that arbitrary happiness meter up, assuming it works. The settlements in question glitch a lot, as some places will show up with unexplainable triangles on certain things, or inexplicably have no water or food resources despite the contrary. The Minutemen questline focuses on this heavily as a result, so if I were you, I would suggest avoiding this, as this will be the main crunch of your time, if you want to get right into the story.

As for the story, it is ambiguous in it's morality system, as it doesn't hit you over the head with basic black and white statements: The institute is well off but isolationist and distrustworthy of life above the surface; The Brotherhood is powerful but otherwise opportunistic and militaristic in their control; and the Railroad wants freedom for all synths, at the great risk of said synths becoming raiders and terrorizing otherwise peaceful settlers. Minutemen is the only faction that will warrant an overall 'good' ending, as you only need to sacrifice one of the three main factions. It's a shame that the story does get heavily sideswiped by the intense focus on settlement building. As for the NPCS in question, there are positives, and negatives.

NPC dialogue is a lot more fresher in previous installments, as I never came across an NPC with the same voice other than the same generic NPCS like Raiders or Settlers. Dialogue sounds more authentic, rather than a bit blocky or unaware, but ultimately, the dialogue wheel and making the protagonist actually speak was a mistake. It limits the ability to branch your character off in different ways, or find inventive ways to convince said NPCs or companions, although, Morality is not based on a meter and actually feels authentic as well, as you can feel the decisions you make affect others around you based on the affinity system, as well as making said choice felt throughout. But the dialogue wheel, combined with the streamlining of the leveling system to strictly a perk system, do limit your player choice as Charisma is the name of the game, as you will be able to pass all speech checks, gain all settlement perks, and woo any companion.

The Post-Season pass review of Fallout 4 from a dedicated Fallout fan:

I will be frank, I don't think Bethesda had the players in mind when they made the game. The initial release of the game was SOOO exciting for me, and I was met with a dilemma a couple weeks after playing the game a bit. Get this, I bought an Xbox One JUST to play Fallout 4 because my laptop isn't strong enough to handle the game in its full glory; I loved the last 2 fallout titles so much that I didn't need to play the game to know it was incredible and full of gameplay.

    But I was wrong.

At first, I was amazed by all of the new mechanics. I didn't particularly care for how they changed VATs, power armor, level up system, or how the every-playthrough-worthy companion Dogmeat was reduced to a dumb ass german shepard whose sole purpose is to get in the way of your walking path and line of fire, or the "Legendary Items" system. What they focused on were the aesthetics of the game- a giant, seemingly full map full of variety, and remodeling the creatures and weapons, and they left out crucial components that made Fallout 3, New Vegas, and even Skyrim amazingly fun, high-replay value games.

After 2 weeks of playing it and accumulating around a hundred hours of gameplay, I stopped my wishful thinking that the game would get better and realized that they RUINED fallout. There were always missions and items that I had fun doing and obtaining solely from the knowledge and experience of my last playthrough, which added life to the game. For instance, in New Vegas, I always got Chance's Knife, Love and Hate, and the YCS gauss rifle as soon as I started the game- they were my favorite weapons in every playthrough, and were as powerful as the skill points I assigned to them were- much like The Terrible Shotgun in Fallout 3, or how I walked to get dogmeat immediately after entering the wasteland. There were plenty of unique items and interactions that I thoroughly enjoy and remember from both of those games- I could go on for hours and hours. The point being, the variety of experiences kept my interest peaked for long periods of time, and with so much to do in one save, it was never dull to see or do those things again, maybe differently in the next playthrough.

Fallout 4 demolished that value. I played fallout 3 all the way through countless times, totaling about 1200 hours of gameplay. I played New Vegas almost 40 times- totaling abut 1600 hours. I played skyrim until I just simply couldn't have a new experience- for over 2500 hours.

    I.

    F***ing.

    Love.

    Bethesda.

But fallout 4 is soooooo monotonous. They made a map that was way too big to fill and they bit off more than they could chew filling it with unique things to do. The glowing sea for instance takes up about 1/8th of the total map and literally the only thing there is a high chance to spawn monsters. There are no unique items to tiptoe through hordes of deathclaws to, nor are there even any items to pick up for that matter. Its a walkthrough gallery of CGI garbage- literally. There is a giant city, FULL of locations to discover and massive buildings, but most of them have nothing more than low-level enemies and scrap in them.

When it comes down to it, the most substantial amount of your time with fallout 4 is collecting BS so that you can build a crappy settlement that serves no real purpose but to house your mounds upon mounds of worthless loot and trading for ammo which always seems to be in short supply- no matter how powerful your weapon- another bothersome aspect. I can't simply walk to Evergreen Mills and get myself a legendary weapon that is universally good against enemies, I have to make due with the OKAY weapons that you need a ton of parts and leveling to improve.

The story of this game is trash. "Like, dude, what if in fallout 4, instead of a son wanting to venture out of the safety of the vault to find his dad, we had a dad in a vault he didn't want to be venture out to find his son?" On that note, I think enough is said. The idea of the institute and androids being connected- is just forced. It would be like finding out your dad was the leader of the enclave in fallout 3. It's just stupidly unoriginal.

And to top off the rest of the disappointments, the season pass was about as worthless to improving the game as possible. It just forced a bunch of impractical devices and patch-worthy new items into the crafting menu, and included 2 very small, clearly rushed expansion packs known as Far Harbor and Nuka World. The rest of the DLCs were low-interest settlement upgrades that people would have just modded into the damn game if they really wanted them.

THAT is why I think it deserves a 1/10. One point for keeping my stupid, gullible ass occupied for about 250 hours. Had they released the DLC all at once, I would have stopped after realizing there was nothing more to come. Here is 5000 characters worth of what I think of Fallout 4, summarized:

If you've played the this series from the first game on it's just dissapointing how far it developed away from a story-based RPG to a shooter. It's still cool to explore that world - but at what cost? It would be nice to see remakes of the classics with that engine. Still fun, still playable, lots of opportunities, but it feels kind of empty for me.

This atmosphere is what is known as Fallout 4, and the Fallout universe as a whole follows this same formula. Fallout 4 has its ups and downs like any other game, improving upon certain mechanics, while also leaving out other mechanics that are pivotal to the Fallout universe. The world is huge, allowing for the Indiana Jones in you to jump with glee as you explore various places, collecting loot to upgrade your weapons, armor, and even build structures for certain places. Or of course you can also sell whatever you grab as well, if that takes your fancy. The graphics are a bit watered down in certain areas, and the wasteland as a whole all looks the same from the exterior side of things, but all in all the game does look gorgeous. The weapon and armor system do allow for upgrades which increases the amount of options players have when approaching certain situations, but the lack of base weapons in general is noticeable when compared to the amount of weapon selection that Fallout New Vegas had. Quests are a bit linear, simply sending the player to pick up this at this , or to kill a person to save this person from death, but that is concerning mostly the side quests, not the main quest line which is diverse and fun to traverse at least the first time around. The Pipboy side of things has pretty much remained the same as past Fallout games as well, allowing the player to manage their inventory, do their quests, tune in to radio stations across the wasteland, among various other things. When it comes down to it, if the player wants a huge world to explore, a bunch of quests to do, quite a bit of weapon customization, and plenty of people/creatures to interact with, then Fallout 4 is the game for them, even with its certain flaws. If you think that scavving a radioactive wasteland for materials to rebuild villages, forts and outposts and then defending them against hordes of ghouls, super mutants, robot raiding parties and other nasties sounds like your idea of fun then this might be the game for you. The game also rewards characters for changing apparel and interacting with npc's so the net effect is that of a super hero with an alter ego persona. My relatively low-level character is by day a burgeoning industrialist raking in thousands of caps every day. By night she is a fully mechanized-suit wearing superhero. F.O 4 has an average play time of over 100+ hours and counting which ranks up there with Skyrim, so the people who "get" how it is meant to be played really love it. Expand

The story is very good so far but if I had to pick one thing to give credit to Bethesda for in the story it would be the pacing. In some giant R.P.G's. with very long stories the pacing can be a bit slow at times but the pacing in Fallout 4 is spot on, has you interested and having fun the whole way through. It forces you to get creative, which is an area that most games fail in. The variety in weapons and enemies are fantastic, and there have been numerous battles that have really got my heart pounding. The variety in builds are also great, allowing you tons of options to customized your character through traits and clothing. Some people have complained about the graphics, but I think they're fine. If you use mods, like Springtime in the Commonwealth, it will greatly improve the landscape, and make it feel less baron and depressing. Mods in general greatly improve the game in my opinion, especially during a second play-through. The world is large like the other fallout games, but they learned from their mistakes and added more urban areas to make the world feel a little more dense. Being able to customize your weapons and armor is also nice.

Now for the cons: Like fallout 3, the game suffers from a sub-par story, an unsatisfying ending, and non-memorable characters. They also dumbed down the dialog system, making it so you can only respond with Yes, No, Sarcastic, and what the hell are you talk about? This makes it so you don't actually know what your character is going to say in a conversation, not like it really matters because the choices you make don't really make any difference. This is a game that brags about have a **** ton of dialog, but it's mostly post-apocalyptic psycho-babble that gets tedious very quickly. They also destroyed the desire to go out on your own and discover new locations. You'll come across a cool building and go inside and clear it, but later on in the game you'll be given a random quest that sends you there anyway, making it pointless to have gone there before the quest. Pretty much all the side quests are dumb, randomly-generated fetch quests, and you'll have to do a bunch of them if you want to progress in one of the 4 factions. Like all of bethesda's RPG's, the companions are a joke, and you're better off just going it alone. Like I said in the pro's, upgrading and modifying your equipment is a nice touch, but actually pulling it off is the most tedious thing in the game. You'll spend half the game looking at broken selves, lockers and desks looking for items like duct tape and glass. Because a lot of the items you need to upgrade your equipment are heavy, every 10 minutes you'll be fast traveling to your settlement to unload all this junk. You'll constantly be plagued with "You're carrying too much to run" notice, making it you have to reorganize your inventory every 5 minutes. The crippled limbs system is still in place and is as infuriating as ever. All of these issues would be tolerable if it wasn't for the game-killing crashes. As I write this I am currently stuck in a building where it crashes if I try to get to the top, but also crashes when I try to descend and leave the building, making it so I have to load an old save. Seriously Bethesda? This game has been out for almost a year now, these kind of issues shouldn't exist.

I vented about the con's a little more than I meant to, but overall I think this game is more good than bad. I just hope in future versions of the game that Bethesda will fix these issues instead of patting themselves on the back because of these ass-kissing critics.

The world, as always is fantastic, so is the atmosphere. The almost intact skyline and city of Boston is fantastic. It has the feeling, the humour and the darkness a fallout game should have. There is the usual junk and item scattered everywhere, with thought about where they are placed, even if they are not at all important. In addition, EVERY junk item in the game can be scrapped for part to use in the new crafting system.
The crafting system is brilliant. There are so many weapon upgrades and combinations, you can make practically anything with the right resources and perks. The new power armour mechanic is brilliant, and makes you feel like you are a walking tank, like it should. Power armor can also be modded in a variety of ways. What other game lets you walk around in a bright pink human tank with a rocket powered sledgehammer?
VATs is as good as ever. Aiming has been improved from other fallout titles and feels less, but still sufficiently clunky (as in my opinion it should).
The main story-line is strong, with kind of two parallel but linked main quests. I can usually predict plot twists but i genuinely did not see the one in this game coming. There are a decent amount of side quests, not quite on the level of the previous games, but still enough and interesting.
The settlement feature I loved, especially with the add-ons. It was a great part of the game, tedious at first when you have little resources, but once you get the perks and materials, you can build amazing things.
This game will not be for everyone. You NEED to invest in it, you need to be patient. If you spend the time levelling up your character, exploring the wasteland and immerse yourself this game will just keep giving. If you like to rush through a game, complete the main quest and a few side quest then move on, you will miss the best parts of the game. This isnt COD.

The moral depth to the story is excellent, and none of the 4 factions are truly good or evil, which makes some endgame decisions all the more difficult. This game, despite appearing at first to be an FPS, is not an FPS. Despite the mainly first person view and the abundance of firearms, any comparison to CoD are completely misunderstood. The best aspects of the game lie away from the combat and with the immense depth of story and detail is this barren yet vibrant game world. Expand

It's the opposite for New Vegas, and I can understand being disappointed with that, but its just not this type of game.

Crafting and item hunting is fairly well done, although it would have been much more enjoyable without such a hash item weight limitation.

At the beginning there are really not many interesting questchains. None of the factions seemed that interesting or intriguing to me at first. It does get better the more you progress. The new graphics patch has improved the visuals significantly, the environments look very good. Voice acting is sometimes not that good in german, but good in english.

Many animations and coversation cutscenes are fairly wooden and not really believable. The writing sometimes doesnt seem to be very smart.

The pip boy interface is a bloody nightmare. Locating a specific item is fairly hard and often not the entire name of an item is displayed. Navigating is not intuitive.

The music is quite good, some City tunes are really beautiful.

Overall the game felt a bit like a drag in the beginning, mainly due to the fairly lackluster, generic quests. However, this seems to be a game that gets better the longer you play. After a while the bizzarre world really captivates you quite nicely and the story picks up pace after a while

-graphics: if you only play games for snazzy graphics at the expense of everything else then you probably loved the dumb later FF series where you push a button or two to watch a bunch of cutscenes.
-gameplay: the game is huge. Huge. Folks who played for "seven hours" are truly not giving the game a chance, as 7 hours means you didn't manage to open ANY of the interesting quests and storylines.
-dying too much: learn to play an RPG n00b.

This game is a mashup of a town-building minecrafty game with an RPG/shooter, set in as open a world as they could make it but still ensure there is a story line. In order to get anywhere, you need to go slow, finding stuff you can use to get better armor weapons etc., all the while levelling up your character.
I am over 75 hours in, and have barely touched the main story, being busy building up an infrastructure of settlements, where you take control and build everything, from walls/turrets/defenses, to houses (complete with furnishings decorations etc), from the floor up. I loved the idea of these two disparate game styles coming together so well, and Bethesda did a great job on it.

The main story is not a particularly strong one, but when I play a Fallout game, I just like to explore these new worlds more than anything else.

The game has no RPG element, other than designing what your character looks like. The new voiced dialogue is horrendous and gives vague options like, Choice = Sorry, Character says: "Sorry your daughter was too stupid to not run away", on top of that, practically everything you say is just another way of saying yes. Pretty much it goes like this: yes = yes, no = yes, sarcastic = yes, whereas in Skyrim, your choices would actually affect the quest. Also, the story in general is just boring. I had to force myself to play a bit more before just giving up. There were also some things that didn't make sense, like, how is it that your character's wife can easily use a power armor without any training? I understand how your military-veteran could do it, but his inexperienced wife? The game didn't come with choices as well. In Skyrim, you were the hero of the land, but you could still be evil. In FO:4, however, you can simply be slightly naughty in how you phrase things. The only thing Bethesda did well was in making a stable gun play system. In fact, FO:4 is mostly an adventure-shooter rather than an RPG.

    As a shooter 7/10

    As an RPG 4/10

I didn't like this and I just can't imagine how a hard-core fan feels, don't waste your time on this game.

Think of it as an open world Action RPG with a greater emphasis on being an open world game. This isn't Fallout 3, this isn't Skyrim with guns, this is Fallout 4. It's a totally different beast that becomes more fun to play when you come to terms with the fact that it isn't a pure rpg.

This game is OK. But this just ins't my style of game. It takes why too much time to get invested into the game and the graphics aren't that good. I don't really like this game but it's not because of the graphics it's just too hard for me to be interested in this game. So I brought it back. If you have patience and like slow gameplay, buy this game if not, just ignore this game.

Well, 7 months later with countless updates, 3 DLC packs, and mods finally coming to Xbox One i can happily say that Fallout 4 is a phenomenal game. Never in my entire life have i had this much fun with a video game. To start off, 2 of the 3 DLC packs are actually worth your money as they are damn good. Wasteland Workshop on the other hand is only good if you enjoy building settlements. Anyway, the two packs that are good Automatron and Far Harbor stand with previous expansions such as Lonesome Road and Point Lookout as the most enjoyable DLC packs we have been given. Console mods are the main thing that hooked me back to this game as i can finally experience what PC players have been bragging about for years now. I can now finally run across the Commonwealth wielding a lightsaber with a trusty Behemoth companion by my side. Anyway, everybody who gave this game a low score (0-5) should honestly give this game another chance. Bethesda have truly listened to the fans and i am excited to see what content we get in the future Expand

I get why many people like this game but it is just riddled with too many game breaking issues for me to be among them. Yes it is a large world to wander across and I guess you can at a stretch say that you can play it through in a couple of different ways but for a AAA release in this day and age to still have your main character jumping like a poorly animated clown and clumsily bumping his way through doorways and getting caught on debris as you fail yet again to avoid a hidden mine or an unlimited supply of grenades chucked superbly by idiotic AI enemies at your feet, there really is no excuse while you reluctantly reload your last save to do the clustercluck of a mission again, only to watch your companion blunder their way into your line of fire and set some maddening excuse for a combat scenario off again.
Like many others have stated, the RPG elements are woefully over looked and really come down to collect this and make that but ultimately any weapon or armour that you may have spent an age lovingly crafting out of a chore of ingredients can be just as easily found after killing some random villain which makes the whole effort pointless and the storyline really cannot be defended by anyone with any imagination to be more than go here and kill some dudes. There are the shelter/sim section is painful to maintain and manage and I guess the worst crime that this game is guilty of is being boring, I have plodded my way through for 20 odd hours and am just sick of every character including my own and feel no connection with any of them. Now I know that there are gamers that obviously don't think that this is the case and I'm honestly glad that there are folk out there enjoying themselves but when you consider games with plots and characters like the Mass Effect series and sublime animations and character movements of titles like the previous Uncharted games, all of which came out years ago, then there really is no excuse for such a clumsy and ugly offering to be slapped on the shelves (and by ugly I don't even mean the shonky graphics but rather the nasty interface, debilitating controls and all-round laziness of the design)
I am a long time gamer, I have played everything from the original Elite on my Acorn Electron to Angry Birds on my phone and everything in-between so I am not new to gaming or the flaws that can be found in even the best games but the very essence of this title really does just make me shake my head. We should be expecting better of such big releases and the studios should be a hell of a lot more innovative rather than just banging out something so very broken. Shame on them.

It's a very experimental game. One that adds some surprising new features to the Fallout formula while also making changes to some of the already existing ones. While not all of the changes are for the better, Bethesda still gives gamers plenty of reasons to get lost in Fallout 4's world.

I'm going to start off by getting the bad of Fallout 4 out of the way. A big aspect of this series has always been player choice. I don't mean in just what kind of character you'll build or how you'll approach combat. Your influence on the story and world around you have always been significant to the experience. Fallout 4 still has all of that, but it's noticeably dumbed down.

There's no karma system and the only big choices you make are which faction to side with in the end. Admittedly that is pretty big decision to make as whichever fraction you side with becomes the dominant force in the Commonwealth. However that still feels lacking compared to the previous games' ability to throw numerous morality decisions at you that really got you thinking. You genuinely felt that your influence on the world was more than just setting up who rules the land. It also doesn't help that you feel like you get locked into one group too early. Once you stick with one there isn't much chance to learn about the others. It feels less you're making the best choice based on the groups goals, and more like blindly following without knowing their full goal(s). Like I said this aspect of the game feels dumbed down. Like an afterthought compared to the rest of the gameplay options. A pretty significant hit to the series.

However, Bethesda still delivers in just about every other department. While you influence on the story does feel lacking in comparison to previous Fallouts, you can still feel like you are influencing the world and your character. You get some exciting new abilities as you level up and dive into the massive amount of perks the game offers. You can really build any character you want. You can be a stealth master, melee tank, long to medium range gun expert, or the type of person who talks their way out of everything.

The game also puts a big emphasis on crafting. You can acquire settlements and build them up however you like. The amount of armor and weapon mods allow you to customize your gear to your liking. However doing any of this requires a lot of resources. Those random items laying around the wasteland finally have some use. However the need to collect and break down so much of it kept me from really diving into it. Those with a taste for this kind of thing though are sure to be pleased with the amount of options available. Growing you settlements and keeping the inhabitants happy is remarkably sim-like and feels like another game inside your game.

If that's not your thing Fallout still delivers plenty of quests, combat, and exploration to sink your teeth into. The new iron sights system makes the non-Vats action so much better. Exploring the world can still lead you to plenty of goodies and hidden surprises. You stumble on plenty of new enemy types and more difficult variations of the standard enemies. Outside of some repeating chains that ask you to do the same things over and over again, the side-quests are just as entertaining as ever. They often add cool new stories that take place outside of the main-quest. Unfortunately they don't add much more notable decision making.

One thing you'll notice about the game is that it borrows a dialog wheel and fully-voiced player character from Bioware. While that falls short due to the, again, dumbed down decision making, you'll notice it's not the only thing they borrow. Your interactions with companions are more meaningful this time. Just like in Bioware games gaining your followers trust is important as they watch your actions. It doesn't reach the same depth, but it's a cool new addition. Especially since you can romance them this time around.

Fallout 4 experiments with a lot of things. Most of which pays of really well. While the notes Bethesda has taken form Bioware appear to have been hastily scribbled and the decision making is lacking, the developers manage to deliver in other ways. It can be downright brilliant at times, and not just on the gameplay side of things. It stumbles with some of what made Fallout so great in the first place, but there's still plenty to love here for those who are willing to except it's faults or at the very least not blow them wildly out of proportion. In a time where gaming is becoming more and more multiplayer-centric, Fallout returns and delivers another lengthy single-player experience that's filled with content. The majority of which is excellent.

Fallout 4, before I played this game I thought it was the most stupid game ever because it was confusing. But I played it now, I’ve watched people play it. The premise of the game is a nuke goes off and before it goes off you are invited to join a vault, just for precautions. The nuke goes off and you, your wife, and your son get frozen in a cryogen container and fall asleep. 200 years later you wake up and see your wife get killed and your son gets kidnapped by the people who created the vault, then you fall asleep again. When you wake up the land is destroyed and animals and people are infected. It’s the apocalypse. You have to get food and water, build resources and buildings. You’re the main character and you do missions and try to find your son that was kidnapped.
This game is super fun, I love how you can modify your weapons and make them to your needs, not the needs of the game. You can put different sights on your gun. Also, you can make it better, so it has better damage, ammo clips, grip, etc. You can make it so it has a different paint job. Or make it shoot a different way. Modifying your gun the right way will make playing the game a lot easier.
You can create your character, and you can control how big or small he or she is. You can pretty much make him or her however you want, it’s pretty fun. You can make him or her whatever race you want, you can make him or her have whatever scars or color hair or eyes. It took me an hour to create mine. You can also pick your name. Creating your character is a really good part about the game. Also, at the beginning of the game you get aspect points. Beginners, experts, anyone, at any level can control their strength, perception, endurance, charisma, intelligence, agility, and luck for the game.
Another fun aspect of this game is having a dog, especially because it can’t die. The worst it gets is that it won’t be able to attack enemies. Also you can give him armor. You can also get different species of dog, like a german shepard or a bull dog. Some breeds are better than others. Some breeds do more damage, some smell better, or can sniff out better items.
The graphics in this game are amazing. The picture on the right is exactly what the game’s graphics look like. The reaction time is also amazing. If you made this game’s graphics any better than it would look just like real life compared to older games.
This game has more advanced technology and weapons in the game compared to real life. You use things like laser rifles and battle armor very advanced stuff. In the battle armor you are way more protected than just out in the open. You can drop from a building and barely lose any health.
This game is rated M. Only because of language and it’s pretty scary, considering all of zombies popping up. It’s mostly dark so that adds to the zombies being scary. It cost somewhere between $50-$60. You can play on Xbox One and PS4. I really recommend this game, it is really worth the money.

I keep coming back to this game, where many other current titles never get a second play after I've done the main story, side missions and collectibles. In FO4 I've done every mission possible in one play through, plus all the DLC to date. Second best game on Xbox one (behind the Witcher 3).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fallout 4 is a good game. But it's just that. A good game. It's not great, like its predecessors. It's just good. I found myself playing the game and I just didn't feel the same as I did when I originally played Fallout 3 or New Vegas. It just wasn't the same. The main quest did nothing for me. I had absolutely no attachment whatsoever to my characters spouse (whom I had barely known for 5 minutes before her death) or my baby son (who again I had barely known for 5 minutes before he was kidnapped). Then just as I thought I was about to rescue him, it was the biggest anticlimax I can remember from a game. Turns out he's now the big bad guy! Of course since it's a Fallout game you can choose to side with him, but hey guess what happens then? Yupp, you guessed it. He has incurable cancer and dies at the end of the game. I mean seriously Bethesda, what the **** You make me spend hours thinking I'm gonna be rescuing my kid to make him out to be the bad guy so I decide to side with him, but nope, that's not a good enough laugh for you, so you then kill him when I think we're gonna rule the commonwealth together? It's ridiculous. I mean what is even the point?

The companions are also rather crap compared to previous Fallout games, although it does mark the return of a canine companions (also called Dogmeat, obviously), and Nick Valentine, a synth detective, is a pretty cool guy to keep you company. The rest? I wouldn't even let them clean my toilet, seriously, they're that boring.

The graphics also aren't up to my expectations. Sure, they're better than New Vegas, but they're just not what you'd expect form a next gen game that's been in development for the past 3 or so years. Then there's the vast multitude of bugs and glitches. The amount of times I've got stuck in the floor, fallen through the floor, gotten stuck in a wall, had a dead enemy floting in fornt of me etc. is just insane. Again, with a next gen game you'd have thought these errors would have been more minimal than in the previous titles, but nope, they're just as pronounced here.

It's just, after 5 years I was expecting something more, you know? I mean, yes it's a good game, yes there are some improvements to the graphics, your character is now voiced, the crafting system is 100 times better, the shooting mechanics are vastly improved, and it is a Fallout game. But I was just expecting greater things. I guess I just got too hyped and was disappointed when it didn't meet my expectations, but there you go.

With such an immense map and a surprisingly gorgeous wasteland to discover, there are endless possibilities. Fallout 4 shines in so many ways, similarly to Skyrim. However, it’s better. Why? Because it’s got guns baby.

Fallout 4’s campaign was something to behold. With these decisions you make, you ally with multiple factions. It’s up to you which one you want to side with. The decisions you make in this game play a large role in what you shape your character to be like and the campaign does not shy away from making sure you know you made your final decision. I thoroughly enjoyed the interactions with characters (except the Brotherhood of Steel, they’re a bunch of **** holes). The campaign ended with a “bang”, extremely emotional while satisfying. Fallout doesn’t need a multiplayer, the single-player is more than enough.

Now onto what to do after the long campaign. Truth be told, the campaign takes forever because it is so hard to stick to it when you keep getting addicting side quests. For instance, the Silver Shroud quest line. This game made me truly fall in love with the Fallout world. From building and stocking up my settlement to running around gunning down enemies, I never thought “what next?” There is always something to do and something to enjoy.

DLC: Automatron includes a mini story mode and, most importantly, lets you build robots! You can literally build walking tanks as your companions. THAT IS AWESOME. I loved how great this ended up and it made a great game even better. Wasteland Workshop expanded the sandbox for creating settlements and allowed the user to capture wildlife in cages. Deathclaw battles shall be happening soon. Along with that, more DLC is to be released and I'm excited to see what will come next.

My only true beef with this game is that it suffers from bugs. I found odd glitches and immense lag at times. These I'm sure will be addressed over time (or at least I hope), but to be a truly phenomenal game, it should be more polished. I also am a little let down by the lack of variety on some side quests. At first, it is fine. However, after a while, they start get repetitive and don't seem to add much. The prime examples are the Minutemen quests, where you literally go to one settlement and just shoot things, then report back to Garvey, then rinse, lather, repeat. Though, despite its downfall, it's still one heck of a game I enjoyed playing.

There's always something to do when you walk out into the fallout.

Here is what I love about this game:

    - I loved its open world, straight after the vault you can go anywhere in the world

    - So many places to go to, on my first run through I went to about 1/20 of all the locations, so much to do it always brought me back

    - The unique guns in this game, The Cryolator, The Gauss rifle, Every gun felt special

    - I loved the conflict in the story, Deciding who to side with and who is more evil than the other

    - The perks, I love them, I like how many there are and how just a little change can completely change how you play

    - I liked how once the story ended you could keep playing, That makes it feel like you can accomplish everything in the world

    - The customization in weapons, Armour, Chems and power Armour, It felt like I could choose how I wanted these items to feel and they really did a brilliant job on this subject

Though I currently really enjoyed this game there were some downsides

Here is what I didn't like so much about this game:

    - The songs, They felt like 8 songs in 1 playlist on repeat

    - The mire lurks, Every time I saw them I was disappointed, I could take them down but they just didn't feel right, I felt like they had way to high damage resistant, even when shooting the inside of the shell

    - Though I loved the guns, There wasn't much variety, I felt like I was seeing the same guns every time I killed a raider or anyone/thing that had a gun

    - The way they handled the perk points, I feel like I will NEVER get all the perks, You have to be level 254 or something to get all of them and that makes me feel very sad as by that level you are just grinding

    - The speech options, Some times I had the intent of saying something but with the way the system of speech is right now I was saying the opposite of what I wanted, The should definitely look into how they handled this part as I was a let down for me finding out that speech choices rarely mattered.

    - The settlement system was a really good idea, But it felt like a gimmick, I never really used it as the way it was laid out and the way it was explained was almost non-existent, I felt like I couldn't connect with any settler as they had no personality or even their own names!

I really really enjoyed this game and I would highly recommend to buy this game, Long time Fallout fans may feel disappointed and I can see why, But I felt like this game felt right to me, and that's why I give it a 8/10 :)

When I first turned on Fallout 3 years ago it was amazing to say the least. The open endedness of it, the deep levels of interaction, the heavy and depressing world- it all combined to create one of the greatest gaming experiances ever. Now Fallout 4 is good (maybe great) but fails to capture that feeling of Fallout 4. Lets start then with what Fallout 4 does worse.

    Worse
-The world lacks the same heavy depressing feeling found in Fallout 3. This does not feel like a world ravaged by nuclear war- but rather a dirty city. It lacks that authticity that made F3 so great
-There is almost no world interaction. The days of trying to find a way around a mission by pickpocketing, or hacking, or speech checks is over. EVERY mission is shot everything and leave. Without fail- every single mission.
-The factions are less engaging, the plot less believable
    -Character motivations seem forced
-Graphics, while generally better, are too cartoonish. It lacks that raw brutality found in F3.
-No Karma system!!! Makes no sense
-You'll never steal or even be temped to because the world of F4 is plentiful and provides all the **** you need. It lacks the feeling of a apocalyptic wasteland
    -Stronger story
-F4 lacks the awesome RPG systems of F3. It lacks any skills- instead of upgrading your "big guns" or "medicine" skill and then picking a perk- you just pick a perk. It restricts the level of engagement with the character.

    Better
    -WAY WAY better shooting mechanics
-The whole "pick your ending" thing was really cool
    -Great companions
-More diverse and jam packed world
    -Great side missions, more developed
    -Power armor is better
    -Weapon crafting
    -General armor is better
    -No weapon degrading, thank god
    -Weapon diversity is great
    -Larger arsenal of weapons
-Settlement system is cool but lacks any real use, seems half finished and undeveloped. Could be added onto and made better though

Sadly Fallout 4 is not a step towards a better game. Rather it is a small step back. Don't get me wrong it is a fun game and I loved it. However Bethesda abandoned the deep RPG elements and involved world in favor of making a strong shooting game. It needs to have a return to form for the series before it becomes another COD shooter, in a long line of COD shooters

With Fallout 4, I can say I was satisfied and got my money's worth into the game, that being said it wasn't perfect, respectively no game is, but fallout 4 is so close to hitting that perfect score it hurts me to give it a 9/10. Before I jump into what I loved, I want to go into my dislikes first. The start of the game is just not what I hoped for, it was too short before the bombs fell, even though that intro scene gave me goosebumps, the rest just left me wanting more out of the pre-war world. I mean imagine having the feel of going to concord or something without the missing walls and dead people everywhere, and Preston telling me about another god damn settlement. It would create this impact of going into it later when it is all destroyed, or having a flashback of shopping with your family there, it would have created this much deeper feeling of rescuing Shawn and fighting for my partner, this is my biggest con of the game, a weak start. However, this in no way shape or form resembles the middle and end, finding Shawn had me feeling mixed emotions, with a strong entrance to the plot twist, that was fantastic, and the ending, mine being the minutemen had me standing tall as I created this army, and destroyed the institute. That is where the game succeeds, along with its strong combat mechanics and extensive amounts of perks to use at my will. I have not yet played as a female character but from what I have heard the voice actor is great, and that's another pro for fallout 4, the game now has a voiced protagonist, I was on board with this from the start and it is safe to say Brain T Delaney did a stellar job on being the lone wanderer, the tone of his voice made the experience so intense and I loved it. All in all fallout 4 did its job in being an rpg and personally made me love the fallout universe even more so than I did with fallout 3 and NV. 9/10 easily, if anyone has for whatever reason not picked up, trust me the money is worth it, it is without a doubt my favourite game of 2015 Expand

I honestly find this to be one of the best Fallouts because it fixes some issues that I had with the previous ones but it does do some things wrong (like every Fallout). Fallout 4 brings the best combat and crafting in the series while bringing an excellent open world with a really interesting story with great characters and factions that bring shades of grey. Fallout 4 brings the best combat and crafting in the series while bringing an excellent open world with a really interesting story with great characters and factions that bring shades of grey. The one real problem that Fallout 4 has is just because of the feedback that Bethesda got before it's launch. Bethesda obviously tried to make it similar to Fallout 3 because before Fallout 4 came our it was praised as the best Fallout. Now that everyone got what they want they're unhappy. But I do agree that Fallout 4 should've had a deeper RPG system. If Fallout 4 had deeper RPG mechanics it could possibly be the best Fallout in the series. But due to it having the weakest RPG mechanics in the series it is held back. I feel like 1 mechanic doesn't define a game. It still is an RPG with big decisions. People tend to over look the fact that you are 1 person and some how you have the power to push an entire army into victory costing the lives of other entire armies. That is a dramatic change in the world how has that been over looked? The one other problem I have with Fallout 4 is the lack of side quests. There is a great main story and great side quests but there aren't as many LONG side quests as in previous titles. I still love these games and I hope that Far Harbor brings what the community wants because that's all Bethesda has been trying to do. Expand

The amount of content available is really quite incredible. The side quests are what most people gravitate to in these types of games, and its crucial to make them fun, and for the most part they are. Some quests are repetitive, (especially the ones at Sanctuary), but otherwise they feature fun characters and interesting diversions. The issue I have is that the main story isn't all that interesting. While some of the twists were impressive, I left the game not feeling the same attachment to characters that I did in Fallout 3. The ending was pretty anti-climatic as well, (although I guess that also applies to Fallout 3).

The mechanics are improved quite a bit and the improved map system and opening items system really made this game a lot more accessible than Fallout 3. Still, the characters weren't as memorable, main story not as interesting and locations not as iconic. Fallout 4 is a fun game for sure, but isn't one I fervently return to.

This version of Fallout, is more cartoony and less realistic and dark. The dialogue system has been nerfed, but the combat system has improved. The story missions are not as fun as the previous fallouts, but the world feels much more full and alive. It will definitely surprise you as a fallout game, for some this change is needed but for others it seems to strange. For me fallout 4 gets a 7/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a part 2 from my first review of Fallout 4.
Still on THE GOOD: The power armor in the game is the best of the other Fall outs. Its a robotic suit instead of just armor you put on.
The combat is awesome, it's a lot smoother and more fun.
The locations are awesome like the glowing sea, where the nuclear bomb stuck the commonwealth. It is a great location because it feels like your actually there in the sea (not really a sea). Its cool that you need radiation gear to survive. Other locations look cool like the super mutant bases.
The side quests are really good also, you never know what you'll encounter. I don't dislike a single quest in the game.
The new level system is really awesome since you can level up indefinitely. There ain't no skills but I am satisfied by all the perks. I'm a level 70 and there are still plenty of skills to get.
The graphics look awesome to me.

THE BAD: The only thing I wish was better about Fallout 4 is that I wish they added more side quests. There are plenty of quests to do but I felt like there should've being more.
BUGS: This game has froze more than any other game I played on Xbox 1. Though that ain't that many. I have run into my pip boy getting stuck(happened once). I have got stuck a few times, though that's easy to fix because you can just fast travel to get out.

Over all Fall out 4 has kept me very interested for 200+ hours. It is my most favorite game. I gave it a 10 because everything they did with it was really good.

THE BEST: Amazing characters including your protagonist, main quests are good and keep you interested, extremely fun to build and explore.

How can you say stupid s**t to this game? WTF? Just because they don't pursue HARDCORE MODE, dosen't mean you already get to say s**t? Seriously about this game, is an absolute PLATINUM solid-rock-gold RPG! You'll get to create stuff, and kick some ass, but damn, this game is funny. Why does it funny? I'll tell you why, kids:
    - If your name is random s**t, Codsworth will say the funniest

It is a bad RPG and a misdirected installment in the franchise. Still, many Bethesda fans or just players who enjoy exploring unfamiliar worlds will be satisfied with it, as it has one of the richest, most detailed game worlds ever created. Lore is presented to the player in different ways around every corner of the game world. Together with the masterfully crafted sound design it will help immerse even newcomers in the interesting world of Fallout. The game also has a lot to offer to gun nuts as the game features improved shooting and an expansive crafting system that takes resources from the clutter in the open world.

However, Fallout 4 is a big departure from the franchise in terms of its way of storytelling and RPG mechanics, which will most likely disappoint long-time fans of the franchise. It is apparent that BGS have taken inspiration from other popular games. It seems to me that in the beginning of the development cycle of the game, the developers asked the question “can we” too many times and didn’t ask the question “should we” enough. As a result the narrative of the game suffers, as the actions of the player often contradict with or completely undermine the meaning of the main story of the game.

For the first time in a Bethesda game, the protagonist is given strictly defining traits that force them to follow a linear path towards an endgame goal. This not only limits the possibilities for role playing, but it creates a pseudo narrative dissonance between the actions that the player makes during the main quests and the rest of their journey in the open world. On one hand the game tries to be an emotional story about family and difficult choices. On the other, it tries to tell a story about hope, building a new healthy community in the post-apocalyptic world. Unfortunately it does not spend enough time on any of these two sides and fails to tell a coherent story as a result of their inability to exist in correlation.

This new way of storytelling is totally uncalled for and it betrays the philosophy of player freedom that BGS has always had. Fallout 4 is a lesser RPG in almost every aspect, even compared to Fallout 3: The removal of the karma system (and the ability to role play as an evil persona); The new “dialogue wheel” which only gives the illusion of choice but ultimately lacks any consequences; The voiced protagonist with defined traits and goals; The removal of skills making your character inexplicably proficient in any kind of weapon and power armor from the very start of the game; The overall lack of choice in quests or the illusion of such. All of these aspects were hallmarks of the franchise and, in my opinion, made the previous Fallout games one of the best RPG games of all time.

Moreover, the quest scripts themselves are repetitive, uninspired and boring. In terms of their mechanics, the quests of Fallout 4 could very well exist in an MMORPG, just in bigger numbers. All quest objectives can be narrowed down to: Acquire X item, place X item, kill X NPC, talk to X NPC, escort X NPC. Inexplicably, 95% of the population of the Commonwealth consists of generic, respawning enemies to kill in an attempt by Bethesda to bring the franchise to the mainstream audience of action hungry FPS players.

The lack of innovation in the mechanics of the game might very well be due to engine limitations. Unsurprisingly, Bethesda decided to use an upgraded version of the engine that they used for Skyrim. This is not the first time that the Fallout franchise receives this kind of treatment as Fallout 3 used an upgraded version of Oblivion's engine. It might have made sense at the time, as Fallout 3 was Bethesda’s first try at the IP and there was a certain amount of risk involved but it cannot be justified after the huge success of both Fallout 3 and Skyrim.

There has been an argument that the team behind these games is considerably small and they like to keep it this way because they are used to working with each other. This is possibly the biggest lie that Bethesda’s PR team has come up with and anyone with even a little knowledge about the game industry can pick it apart. I am totally fine with BGS keeping their artists and world designers and writers as they are. However, the choice by Bethesda not to hire more software engineers and graphics designers is a purely business decision since those types of employees rarely have any influence on the overall theme of the game. It is unforgivable for a AAA title in 2015 to have so many bugs, to look considerably worse than other games that came out in the same year while running poorly. This is not the quality that we should expect from the company behind some of the best selling games of the decade. As long as the community shows that they are willing to forgive poor mechanics, ugly, not optimized textures and game breaking bugs, BGS will keep releasing games in an unfinished state.

The game is horrible. The quests are boring as f*** and always about killing everyone. You will die 100+ times while doing them. You don't even need VATS anymore, just point and shoot. The wasteland itself feels dull and empty.
