IF you loved Fallout 3 and Skyrim, then you should love this. The freedom of play and immersion are second to none. The settlement building aspect, as well as the modding community, ensures the longevity of the experience. I have played this game for years and years,

The game had a few problems, which translated into a lot of damage. These problems, moving away from the roots of RPG and the imbalance between RPG and shooter, made it not become a top Bethesda game.
The problem of the dialogue system and the character not being silent and the very few choices of this game was very good overall game

A game, where you can dive in for hundreds of hours. The setting can't be beaten by any post-apocalyptic movie or game. Overall rating: 8.5.

I have done 100% of this game and I have to say I enjoy it. It has lots of content not to mention DLC my only problem is how badly polished this game is and how much it will crash in the middle of playing. Overall worth the money.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This was the one and only "next gen" version of Fallout 4 and you can feel it in the size of the world vs Fallout 3 and New Vegas.
I love how vivid and colourful the world is compared to those 2 Fallout games, it was a stark contrast and highly needed after being so bleak and dreary (rightly so for the circumstances but still).

I did not really enjoy the building a village part but it does add some additional realism I guess because our hero needs somewhere to live and some support to survive.

Another memorable storyline with a few unexpected twists and turns, it deserves a place in your library.

But outside of the story lacking a bit and the bugs this game is amazing and endlessly fun. The side quest content is amazing, the world and worldbuilding is absolutely incredible. I actually really enjoy to combat even though it is not incredibly polished. The crafting and building is so in-depth and addicting. The DLC's are all great and add so much to do. Far Harbor might be the best Fallout story yet. The humor in the game is also very funny. This is a game you can sink a ton of time into very easily. I fully recommend this game. Especially since it is on Gamepass!

The game is very wide and long, but I enjoy its freedom to create things and places to visit in Boston. In which the protagonist has a voice, I liked him. The modification of weapons and naming them I liked. Some enemies are challenging, but they are more difficult depending on the weapons and range they are. Companions are a challenge to persuade and I really liked. It is a gem of Fallout.

I mean it's post apocalyptic the sims, people try to say as a criticism. What about that doesn't sound fun!?! I have probably a thousand hours of just building stuff in this game.

I've been playing fallout since the first one launched, 4 is my favorite in the series. Sure, the dialog got a bit gimped. Sure, the writing is kinda weak at times. But it's got the best npcs (Nick and Hancock being standout characters, and Nick being the first companion in fallout history to get his own dlc) and when it's good it's incredible.

Don't listen to the people telling you "if this is your first fallout, play 1. 1 aged terribly, and fallout fans are famous for absolutely hating the most recent game. It happened to 2, it was too casual and silly. It happened to 3, it was 3d. It happened to new vegas, it was a broken mess at launch. It happened to 4, "wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle. Not a real ar pee gee!" It's happening right now to 76 because 76 actually is a dog turd wrapped in 50s americana. And like the criticism of 2, 3, and new vegas, the backlash about 4 was totally overblown.

The lore is very detailed and each location has some lore attached to it. Combat and gameplay feels good, and overall it is an upgrade from NV.

Settlement building was new to FO4 and I really enjoy it. It is one of my favourite things to do, gathering materials and then building my settlement, full of settlers, bars, stores, etc. Definitely a very rewarding thing to do.

It's a great game. But, in comparison to Fallout 3/NV, it's almost like a few steps back were taken. Game play wise, i love it. The graphics (Even on my low spec Xbox one) are a huge improvement over Fallout 3/NV, with great visuals and colouring. The shooting mechanics feel good, as well as the pip boy, map etc. Crafting is also majorly improved, as you can now tag the objects you need to make a certain mod for a gun, amour etc.

I enjoyed the quest line, if anything i found it to be a little bit too short. It's not quite as impressive as the Fallout 3/NV quest line, but enjoyable none the less. Side quests do get very repetitive however, but with the addition of a few good DLC's this changed my view on the game a fair bit.

Overall, it's a good game. It's got the odd classic Bethesda bug here and there, but it's a very enjoyable game none the less.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is beyond incredible, it has everything i’d want in a first person adventure and action game. I love all the different region and the remaking of boston urnt into a radiation destroyed place with large monsters and small survivor hoods
I expected this game to be very action packed and have really good depth and detail in the scenery and I expected it to have a very intriguing storyline and very addicting character personalities. I expected to be fighting radiated corpses due to the trailer including the scene of a nuke dropping and the use of the fallout shelters. I expected to find companions and explore radiated villages. I was hoping for a really big map with a lot of secrets creating for heaps to do and I really wanted to discover more fallout shelters and find other survivors like your playable character is. I was Sort of expecting to see some massive radiated beasts due to it being a game needing bigger bosses and enemies to battle.
The plot for this game is first of all set in the future and you start off in a happy couple where you can choose to be the female or male and you have a robot assistant who alerts you of the news on their television. Shortly before this happens a man approaches their door and informs them about joining a company called vault tech. This company provides the signed up people of a place inside a radiation-protected place to survive a nuclear explosion.

Whilst not at the forefront of your attention, the music is always there and sometimes you won't even notice it until it goes silent. Your heart might be in your mouth as you hack a computer or lockpick a door with enemies nearby, and the music will do a great job to reflect exactly how you are feeling.

I loved the addition of legendary equipment and workbenches BUT building my settlement became too large a part of the game for me. The game was quite average out of the box but made brilliant by the addition of mods on the Xbox. Thanks to Beth and the awesome PC community that have really made this game rock. I was able to correct those little annoying parts of the game that stopped short my enjoyment. Things like timescale, radio stations, enhanced blood textures, weather, moon replacement, smoking, layered armor over all clothing, darker nights, campsite, shelf clutter, shotgun, desert eagle and chinese rifle, reverb audio etc have all made the game fantastic.

Moving on from Washington Beth have given us a Boston take on the post apocalyptic life, hunting in the ruins of a fallen world and struggling to survive. Well, that is how it should work, except we can also level our character 100 times and turn them into a demi-god. Lol.

    Pros-
    Nice game world to explore
    Mods
    Fun combat
    New upgrade system for weapon/armor
    Locations respawn
Balance of weapons and gear is much better than FO3
    Far Harbor atmosphere is awesome
    Super Mutant suicider
    Folllower quest stories
Rain audio changes when under shelter
No rain through solid objects. Finally!
    Power Armor is well done
I like the way radiation lowers health bar
The freedom of choice to role play and ignore quests

    Cons-
Only 2 gig of mod space.
Too many fetch and carry quests
    Creature texturing is too smooth
Condensed map and low number of satellite towns
Disappointing radio stations. Both in songs and number of stations. Crap!
    Season pass was a rip-off
Followers block you every time you walk slowly
    No centaurs!
    Shotgun/combat rifle use same skin
Minutemen lore and quests were connected to settlement building

The Bethesda style of story writing is something I will not comment on as the quests are only a reason to travel across the map and explore. The game is all about role play and exploring. People can rightfully complain about it but that is the truth. And no doubt my high score comes from me loving the Beth style of freedom and exploring for hours on end.

I enjoyed the voice dialogue as the female voice over was really well done ( I have not played a male yet) and I would be happy enough to see it return again. But, Beth, please, not in Elder Scrolls. A male and female for every race would be overkill. Written dialogue is fine.

I was also happy enough with the settlement building as that was one aspect I always wanted to do in FO3 but never got a chance to do so. Waaaay too much DLC was dedicated to settlement building though. I really hated that.

The only DLC I have not played yet is Nuka World. I was hoping that we could join and play an evil faction but reading the reviews I am not sure that they pulled it off well.

My game crashed to the start up menu probably once every 10 hours of gameplay so that is something to consider if you install too many mods on the Xbox. It was worse in the downtown area with all the extra textures it has to load.

Game Content- 9 out of 10
Fun Factor- 7 out of 10
Overall Rating- 8 out of 10

I would only have rated Game Content 7 out of 10 without mods.

Awaking to a neighborhood on the brink of nuclear fallout was mesmerizing to me. Bethesda nail this opening sequence and it sets the tone for the rest of the game. You exit the vault and begin your journey through the wasteland, and what a marvelous journey it is.

Its thrilling to run away from an enemy that would usually not kill you in a couple shots that you know might be able to one hit K.O. you and delete a chunk of progress. As great as the game is and as enjoyable as it is, it has some serious flaws that need to be addressed. The aiming feels clunky and its hard to be precise with your shooting, thankfully vats compensates for this issue but it definitely ruins some of the immersion. Additionally, even though this game has been out for about 3 years , it still is a bit laggy at times even though I am playing on an Xbox One X. Whats even more frustrating is that the game still froze for me once while I was playing , deleting an hour of gameplay since I am playing survival mode and can only save at a bed when there is one available. I got this game on launch and it definitely has improved since then, but at this point I expect the game to run flawlessly given 3 years of time and playing on an improved console. Top that off with multiple competing factions and armies to align with or receive a kill-on-sight order on your head.
Do yourself a favor and play the DLCs - Far Harbor and Nuka World. These add missions, weapons, armors, settlements, creature types (hermit crab + fog crawler = death), and followers. Other DLCs add crafting functionality (Automatron = crafting new robotic followers) and are worth your pennies too.

Is this the best Fallout game? No. Is this the best RPG Fallout game? No. What it is, is a very well designed open world fps, to be completely honest. There are some minor RPG elements here and there to keep it in the category, but most RPGs these days are significantly dumbed down.

    Positives:

    - Great and expansive open world
    - Excellent gunplay mechanics (You can finally aim down sights reliably)
    - Fun settlement building system (better with mods)
    - Good character building system (perk chart)
    - Good DLC content
    - Replay value
    - Some great characters
    - Expansive mod list (Xbox & PC only)
    - Fun to play

    Negatives:

    - Dialogue wheel is just unnecessary with limited options
    - Story is weak, along with some of the characters, especially yours
    - Missing some major rpg elements
    - Repetitive side quests (shut up preston)
    - Typical rpg bugs and crashes
    - Mehh graphics

Overall, IMO, Fallout 4 is a worthy successor to NV in the fallout series. I do not believe it is better than New Vegas, but it is certainly worthy of carrying the name. A good effort overall by Bethesda bringing the series to the next gen consoles and hopefully the next instalment will include more rpg elements with the positives of this game, because that would be an amazing product. Something to build on for the future. 83% = 8/10.

The graphics aren't that impressive for 2015 standards, but are passable. The noticable frame rate drop (especially during combat) becomes detrimental to my enjoyment and immersion, but this is only an infrequent occurance. Furthermore, the story is unoriginal and average, as it is inferior to the storyline and plot that 3 and New Vegas had presented to us; it is still decent though. The soundtrack doesn't distinct itself much from Fallout 3 but is still quite mesmerising to hear. There are good improvements to the gameplay mechanics of the game, for example, the VATS system. Previously, when you entered VATS, you could you use it as an alternative pause menu, eliminating the sense of urgency. But now, it has been altered to slow motion, creating a better yet subtle sense of said urgency as well as giving the player enough time to make decisions. Despite the improvements to things like gameplay mechanics, the game doesn't innovate from previous titles in all other major aspects. It feels like a slightly-improved and rehashed version of Fallout 3. You can even say it is inferior to it, especially in terms of story and RPG elements. However, the immersion factor really saves the game for me; the world is huge, and full of mysteries yet to be uncovered. There were even a few landmarks that caught my eye. All in all, I think this is a good game but plays it a bit too safe for it to deserve a higher score. You may either like it or hate it, depending on what you seek in video games. Fallout 4 is recommendable, so check it out if it piques your interest. Expand

While that may be a negative to some, it's a positive for me since it adds fluidity to the combat and even the feeling of just walking around. The map in this game is fun with many places to explore and many enemies to fight. The graphics are a vast improvement to the prior two games (Fallout 3 and New Vegas), especially coming from playing those games on the console only. One of the bigger additions to the game was the addition of a voice actor to the protagonist. I thought it added a bit of depth to the game and story. Speaking of which, the story was pretty good, maybe not as good as Fallout 3, but it didn't bore. One of the positive aspects for me was the ability to continue playing after the completion of the main story, which was a big gripe I had with Fallout New Vegas. Some of the things I didn't like about the game as much had to do mostly with the power armor updates. It was cool that they added new features to the power armor from the previous games, but having to get fusion cores for the armor to actually work, was a bad idea in my mind. While some may not like the deletion of the morality system (and I am one of them) and the wear of the weapons and armor, I have to say that some ideas are better than others. After putting more than 85 hours into this game, I came to the conclusion that it is a well made game that kept me entertained for hours on end, and it didn't have as many flaws as people made it sound like. Don't believe all the negative reviews. This is still a VERY good game. While Bethesda did remove some things that were popular in prior fallout games, they implemented others that were awesome. Fallout 4 might not be very technically advanced, but it’s a game full of charm and substance, which makes up for an ageing Creation Engine. Fallout 4 boasts an incredible world full of intrigue, mystery and suspense, backed by a whole host of weird and wonderful characters. It’s a world you’re going to want to go back to, time and time again.

Not quite as good as 3 or New Vegas even with the new editions added to 4. Still a good game but lacks in the storyline department. I like the new base building and with all the DLC's now added it has a lot more to offer than it did at launch. Could of easily been a 10 out of 10 game but a one time shock value storyline does not offer much incentive to replay.

I'm going to give this game a ten. Now i realise the game is too big for it's own good, and the script/plot writers kind of run out of ammo. And am over level 60 already. Any kind of game that allows this kind of investment in time, and enjoyment, gets the thumbs up in my book.

Sorry just one more thing. As to the glitches, they are not game breaking, but are built in to the game mechanics. Perhaps with the exception of if you kill a vendor, everyone will attack you. But the idea that you can buy materials, and build with them, and then scrap and rebuild. As well as build water purifiers and pumps, for free resources, which replenish at periodic intervals, is really a great formula, which is hard to beat.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Continuing on with Bethesda's control over the license of the Fallout franchise is their third dive into the world, or in this case, the fifth main title, Fallout 4. Faults with the first attempt at Fallout, such as the poor, drab graphics, repetitive textures, lack of weapon variety, and simplistic morality system have been fixed in Fallout 4, albeit, bring new problems of it's own. The world of the Commonwealth is seamless and has a emphasis on huge and expansive: roads actually look like they were once driven on, especially the sprawling highways and overpasses that hang over places like Boston or Lexington, instead of Fallout 3's single car overpass and highways that go to nowhere for no reason. Attention to detail was this games main focus, from the details inside and outside the buildings, to the ammo, the weapons, and the armor, giving them a more practical look that coincides with their ammo type. As for said weapons and armor, they have expanded through means of the crafting system, expanded upon the weapon mods from Fallout New Vegas; you can add powerful recievers, silence weapons, add beam splitters, and change the fire rate of certain weapons, as well as adding extra buffs to your armor as well. The same goes for Melee, although to a lesser extent. Armor components also deride on different parts of the arm and legs as well, rather than just simply being an outfit and a helmet from FO3. Which brings me to the Power Armor.

Power Armor by far has been the most changed aspect of the previous game, now serving as a sort of 'Gundam Suit' rather than a heavier variant of the Outfit/Helmet set from FO3. You can add different parts of different power armors, from the weak T-45A to the most powerful X-01 power armors. Not only that, but like with basic armor components, you can add extra buffs based on what materials you have as well as what paints are available, which brings me to crafting. Collecting useless junk is actually useful compared to FO3, which only served to increase your cap rate, which by the way, has been balanced quite well in this game where you won't have 900,000 caps and nothing to spend them on. Shipments, ammo, guns, trading shops will all drain your cap amount significantly where you will have to consolidate said resources, so looting areas doesn't become a matter of collecting that one unique from said area.

Although, here comes the first big negative. The Settlement System. Now, the settlement system was a good idea at the start: give you the opportunity to make civilization thrive again, but the micromanagement of 20+ separate settlements with settlers who will never be satisfied no matter if you have 5 different medical stores to keep happiness up, so you will be running from pillar to post to expend all your junk and caps to make more pointless stores to keep that arbitrary happiness meter up, assuming it works. The settlements in question glitch a lot, as some places will show up with unexplainable triangles on certain things, or inexplicably have no water or food resources despite the contrary. The Minutemen questline focuses on this heavily as a result, so if I were you, I would suggest avoiding this, as this will be the main crunch of your time, if you want to get right into the story.

As for the story, it is ambiguous in it's morality system, as it doesn't hit you over the head with basic black and white statements: The institute is well off but isolationist and distrustworthy of life above the surface; The Brotherhood is powerful but otherwise opportunistic and militaristic in their control; and the Railroad wants freedom for all synths, at the great risk of said synths becoming raiders and terrorizing otherwise peaceful settlers. Minutemen is the only faction that will warrant an overall 'good' ending, as you only need to sacrifice one of the three main factions. It's a shame that the story does get heavily sideswiped by the intense focus on settlement building. As for the NPCS in question, there are positives, and negatives.

NPC dialogue is a lot more fresher in previous installments, as I never came across an NPC with the same voice other than the same generic NPCS like Raiders or Settlers. Dialogue sounds more authentic, rather than a bit blocky or unaware, but ultimately, the dialogue wheel and making the protagonist actually speak was a mistake. It limits the ability to branch your character off in different ways, or find inventive ways to convince said NPCs or companions, although, Morality is not based on a meter and actually feels authentic as well, as you can feel the decisions you make affect others around you based on the affinity system, as well as making said choice felt throughout. But the dialogue wheel, combined with the streamlining of the leveling system to strictly a perk system, do limit your player choice as Charisma is the name of the game, as you will be able to pass all speech checks, gain all settlement perks, and woo any companion.

If you think that scavving a radioactive wasteland for materials to rebuild villages, forts and outposts and then defending them against hordes of ghouls, super mutants, robot raiding parties and other nasties sounds like your idea of fun then this might be the game for you. The game also rewards characters for changing apparel and interacting with npc's so the net effect is that of a super hero with an alter ego persona. My relatively low-level character is by day a burgeoning industrialist raking in thousands of caps every day. By night she is a fully mechanized-suit wearing superhero. F.O 4 has an average play time of over 100+ hours and counting which ranks up there with Skyrim, so the people who "get" how it is meant to be played really love it. Expand

The story is very good so far but if I had to pick one thing to give credit to Bethesda for in the story it would be the pacing. In some giant R.P.G's. with very long stories the pacing can be a bit slow at times but the pacing in Fallout 4 is spot on, has you interested and having fun the whole way through. The world, as always is fantastic, so is the atmosphere. The almost intact skyline and city of Boston is fantastic. It has the feeling, the humour and the darkness a fallout game should have. There is the usual junk and item scattered everywhere, with thought about where they are placed, even if they are not at all important. In addition, EVERY junk item in the game can be scrapped for part to use in the new crafting system.
The crafting system is brilliant. There are so many weapon upgrades and combinations, you can make practically anything with the right resources and perks. The new power armour mechanic is brilliant, and makes you feel like you are a walking tank, like it should. Power armor can also be modded in a variety of ways. What other game lets you walk around in a bright pink human tank with a rocket powered sledgehammer?
VATs is as good as ever. Aiming has been improved from other fallout titles and feels less, but still sufficiently clunky (as in my opinion it should).
The main story-line is strong, with kind of two parallel but linked main quests. I can usually predict plot twists but i genuinely did not see the one in this game coming. There are a decent amount of side quests, not quite on the level of the previous games, but still enough and interesting.
The settlement feature I loved, especially with the add-ons. It was a great part of the game, tedious at first when you have little resources, but once you get the perks and materials, you can build amazing things.
This game will not be for everyone. You NEED to invest in it, you need to be patient. If you spend the time levelling up your character, exploring the wasteland and immerse yourself this game will just keep giving. If you like to rush through a game, complete the main quest and a few side quest then move on, you will miss the best parts of the game. This isnt COD.
