Given that this will draw in a huge Souls fan base there really is no need for games mechanics and upgrading of character and weapons to be made so unclear for new players to the franchise. The difficulty is pretty steep from the beginning so newer players would benefit from studying co-op options as a priority. Art direction is pretty decent but overall the graphics are just not good enough by todays standard. Having said all that I am mostly enjoying my play through and will no doubt spend hundreds of hours exploring. Good game but no I would not call this a masterpiece. DKS1 remains my favourite game of all time. Ignore the reviews giving 0 score, typical 14 year old meta critic trolls. Expand

Almost flawless masterpiece, easy GOTY with some of the best mechanics and visuals of any game to date. Not only does it masterfully use the souls style gameplay, it also innovates beautifully upon it.
To anyone willing to "git gud" and use their rage and pain as a fuel for pushing through this game, I greatly recommend.
Also, I can assure you that 90% of the 0 rates are skill issues.

Has the worst camera, lock on system and controls mechanics ever in a video game!!! Completely ruins everything good about game. Controlls are absolutely broken! Hit a button and 3 seconds later stops swinging sword. Remove delay in controls and jumping backwards in neutral on stick immediately!!! Completely ruins everything good about game. Controlls are absolutely broken! Hit a button and 3 seconds later stops swinging sword. Remove delay in controls and jumping backwards in neutral on stick immediately!!! Every time you try an impossible jump and hold run you jump backwards off a cliff. The worst part is leveling up. You can't just play the game through. You'll have to spend weeks fighting the same enemies unnecessarily and repeatedly because game is so short otherwise and makes feel like boring work to the point of losing interest quickly. Absolute nonsense you unable to track any of the vague quests or side ones without googling **** Devs ought to be ashamed of themselves letting it release this way. I guarantee you will die 70% of time due to piss poor camera and lock on mechanics. They deserve a one star until fixed! Put a setting to adjust camera closeness to what user wants!!! Too far away from character whole game. Toon looks 2 inches big on my 50 inch screen while moving wtf!!! Anothe story of a game coming out unfinished so the can steal our money and in 600 updates might fix a few of the horrible mechanical issues. REFUND MY MONEY PLEASE IMMEDIATELY!!! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game ranks amongst one of the best games in the Soulsborne genre, but it STILL lacks what is takes to be a truly great game; or even a 'good' game really.

The graphics are excellent, and the combat controls are relatively responsive, as they need to be in this genre of game. However, that being said, the game falls short on MANY fronts and demonstrates a lack of developer insight into what makes an exceptional game.

While the combat controls are very responsive, the combat in the game often devolves into enemies crowding the player, with the player fighting the in-game camera as much as they are fighting the enemies. This lack of insight, amongst other things, detracts from what could otherwise be a great game.

Competitor 'souls-like' games (e.g. Nioh) so a better job of pacing the combat properly, and offering players some room to actually see what is going on.

Undoubtedly the weebs will shout their lack-of-brain-cells, lemming-like, mantra of 'git gud', but those shouts of mindless of brainless drivel should be directed at the developers, not the players in an effort to get the devs to put forth that 'git gud' effort into overcoming their own barriers, get rid of some of these mindless, idiotic, pacing and crowding issues that mar what could otherwise be a 10/10 game.

Still, all that said, it is still a very 'good' game...and would still a solid 5/10. It really is a 'average' game; but that's just it...it's ok, not 'excellent' or 'exceptional'; it still finds itself leaning on the same tired old soulsborne tropes and cliches. The sole exception to this is that it finally brings magic back into being a viable build.

5/10 would have been as high as it could possibly go with the problems that still exist; and that have existed since the days of the soulsborne infancy.

Unfortunately the Radahn & Fire Giant fights docked additional points because they stand in the way of the player as a 'mandatory' event; and those fights are quite possibly the most terrible fight design I have seen in any modern game. Look to the players, and how many "cheese" strategies players come up with for those two fights alone....that's your barometer for how badly you have designed a fight.

Many other boss fights are likewise a gimmick-driven mess, and not remotely 'fun'; which is the purpose of gaming is it not? That's not to say that ALL of the boss fights are bad; I would say a solid 30-40% of them are well-designed and good; however unfortunately for only 30-40% of 'good' content, the customer should only be charged about 30-40% of the MSRP cost of the game.

There's also some Game Design 101 flaws, for example many times you have to "reload the game world" in order for changes to take effect (e.g. you turn in a quest, and a new pathway is intended to open up; however nothing will happen until you Fast Travel somewhere, forcing the game world to reload)....I mean, seriously, c'mon From Software, that is like High School level basic game design, you guys are supposed to be pros!

All in all, it's decent, and you definitely get your money's worth from a "time-spent" perspective, the game is MASSIVE. So that's a positive. The problem is that From Software still fails to deliver a game that is 100% fun to play. It's about 40% fun, and 60% eye-rolling bad design and annoying. Definitely see some substantial improvements for player experience, but they still have a long way to go.

Definitely not the 10/10 experience that the weebs and fangirls are crying out.

I would have to say the biggest downfall is the continued "lack of respect" towards a player's playtime. My time is far too valuable to waste it doing the same things over and over again. If the dev's target audience is grade schoolers or people drawing welfare stipends, okay sure; but for honest working folk, we don't have time for repetitive garbage.

Another issue is EXCEPTIONALLY POOR quest design & quality-assurance testing. There is no 'Quest Log' to track your objectives; and if that isn't cumbersome enough, most of the quests are flat-out broken, with 'triggers' not happening reliably, NPCs not appearing where they are supposed to be, etc.

The "summons" aspect is a really cool addition, and I really enjoy that aspect of the game. However, I do not appreciate the inconsistency of when/where you are able to summon. There is no explanation to why you can summon in some areas, and why you can't in others; the inconsistency with that game mechanic is mind-boggling from a professional studio.

    Final Elden Ring verdict, 3/10.

Masterpiece Expand

Just not that much fun. Story is pitiful, there is no learning curve for new players (i.e. me). Just grind on nothing creatures until you can muster enough points to maybe kill a boss or two. If you are new to this series just don't.

FRAME RATE DROPS AND GRAPHICS AREN'T AS IMPORTANT AS THE GAMEPLAY. This game is amazing. The story, the music, the art style, the gameplay itself is all absolutely amazing. If you are debating on getting this game and love other Fromsoftware games: GET THIS GAME!

It's incredibly fun, has good stealth, lots to do, great co-op and A LOT of fun. Seriously, it's the best game I've played in years.

Elden Ring is a good game, but... The game has a big optimization problem. Looks like it's from 2017 on the graphisc. Musics bad. You should be ashamed of bluepoint. If we leave this aside there's a lot of sloppy work in the game. They enlarged a normal enemy in sekiro, bloodborne and dark souls and added it to the game as a boss. The venues were the same. Pero estaría bueno que ponga el modo de priorizar los fps aunque sea en Xbox one x, si la xss tiene ese modo yo creo que la one x si puede tenerlo pero lo demás está muy bien Un juego muy difícil pero no imposible

Played on Xbox one S and there is some fps drops and the graphics aren’t cutting edge. But I think complaining ab the graphics is stupid cause there’s nothing wrong with 2017 graphics games barely look hat much better since then. The graphics are actually astounding considering the atmosphere it sets and the inspired world it displays. Especially considering how huge the world is. How detailed was BOTW, still one of the best games. That being said I don’t wanna continue playing the game until they fix the input lag. There’s no reason for it to be a half second delay and the excuse that the run button is the same as the roll button is completely stupid bc it was the same way in the OG dark souls. Fix that and fps and no complaints, it would be one of the best games ever. Fixed input lag by messing with TV and Cbox settings and can confirm it’s one of the best open world games out there. The Xbox One version is just as great as Xbox series version which is the best version of Elden Ring and that Xbox has VRR which makes Elden Ring at most max fps, unlike playstation version. Xbox version has better resolution and better framerate of Elden Ring. VRR does so great! Love the bosses in Elden Ring

If you activate multiplayer features in this game you also get the invasion system which is nothing but a feast for grievers and can‘t be deactivated. Which makes it impossible to play a relaxed coop session. If you don‘t care it might be a great game.
