Doom Eternal asks the player to do more and be more thoughtful with their approach to rip and tearing demons, this makes the combat encounters more satisfying when you pull them off. However it in my opinion slows down the pace and negates what made Doom 2016 so much fun. Enemies like the Marauder aren't difficult| (if your not a games journalist) they just slow down the high octane action and make you fight him one on one while your getting gang banged by like 20 demons at the same time, not to mention that a lot of the demons have weapon specific weak spots and when all of this is at the screen at the same time it's extremely overwhelming. If you liked Doom 2016 because you could go around blasting demons to heavy metal as a way to blow off steam, then you will have a bad experience with Eternal. If you liked the combat from 2016 and wanted more of it, while also being challenged even more. Then I`d highly recommend Doom Eternal, however if you loved 2016 and don`t want to strategics so much in your FPS you`d should wait for a price drop. Expand

Pretty good game. All mechanics explained clearly which makes killing demos nice and easy. Even when you die sometimes its not a problem because game is so fast that couple of meters walk doesnt matter.

I have enjoyed all the Doom games, this was no exception. After beating them I always liked using cheats to mess around a bit with. I dislike not being able to use them until after you neat a mish, and Only if you have gathered them previously .

Единственный кто мне не очень понравился, это титан (просто в doom 2016 его дизайн мне нравится больше). Сюжет интересен, а главное, что не навязчив и не отрывает от геймплея. Pickups are either super-bright, colored like candy or bob up and down while violently flashing. It might not sound severe but it is really irritating. Like... the chainsaw you rip out of a guys body in Doom 2016, or the rifle you tear from a dead soldies arms. In Doom 2020 they just hover on the ground in the dedicated weapon room at some point in the level, flashing wildly.

This diconnect carries over into the sound design and animations. For one it's really strong and snappy but now and then you have this comical sounds - like when some headshots or ripping out a cacodemons eye will make an audible 'pop' sound that could come straight out of a kids tv show. It might sound super-petty but imagine listening to a metal opera and every now and then the lead goes 'hyuck-hyuck' like Goofy.

Gameplay wise it's good with even more emphasis on movement and a lot more enemies to fight and manage. The pistole is now gone which ... i can understand, but the replacement is that you now always have 1 fuel for the chainsaw with which to kill lesser enemies. The resulting candy explosion is your main way of regenerating ammo. And that's something that does not work for me. When i fight a big demon it's just tideous to turn around and look for one of the endlessly spawning minor zombies so i can get some ammo back. By now every now and then when it happens i roll my eyes with a sigh.

Doomguy itself started bulking and went from just an angry guy who had enough of this **** to stereotypic antihero with a heart of gold, that constantly gets told by everyone how awesome they are. They really go out of the way with pampering the player. Not my favorite design choice.

All that said, it's still a good shooter. It's still an id shooter and they managed to get some fun new gameplay mechanics that act as modifiers on the existing combat. If everything of my complaints sounded like minor issues, you might want to give it a try.

Inside Doom Eternal is possibly the best FPS of all time, sadly ID software took that game and slapped a bunch of unnecessary jank onto this perfect game and marred it in the process. Even this doesnt stop the fun you will have playing through this game and most of the time you will have a beaming smile on your face as you rip and tear through the levels. If you even slightly a fan of Doom 2016 or single player fps then this is well worth checking out!

This is maybe the best Doom have to offer, in scale and variation. I love that you can upgrade everything, and you have to fight like hell for it! And cool cosmetics for armor, weapons and demons. Fortress of Doom is excellent, and the action is awesome! But too many rooms of the same enemies, lack of enemy intros and timed missions are things that ruins some of the fun for me.

one thing is clear too.. this game basically has ripped a TON from prince of persia if you have ever played anything of that series.. environment, platforms, etc.. some of it could be straight out of those games.. sometimes to such an extent it almost seems copy/paste.. like a game like the two thrones..

Multiplayer: 0/10.. total trash.. something obviously made in some corporate echo chamber to be "innovative".. not even worth the time.. doesnt even feel like multiplayer.. most of the time youre just fighting against random AI.. they said they wanted to make sure it still felt "like doom" but really it still just feels "like single player".. there is zero sense of failure or accomplishment on a person to person basis when you win or lose.. its almost random.. its basically their "invasion mode" but in a small arena.. most of what youre fighting is just single player AI

Its a good game but doom 2016 was better in every way.. and here youre missing a ton of features, snapmap, real multiplayer, everything totally gone

You can tell a lot of passion went into this and was created with gamers in mind rather than shareholders. The one negative I have about the game is a huge one & is so frustrating that I probably won't reinstall & had to forced myself to keep playing through 1/2 the game. On the bright side Best Buy was sold out of the Deluxe edition so I only threw away $60, not $90, & no season pass.. I saw gameplay before buying with Doom Guy falling, dashing in mid jump, to double jump on a dime then dash to climb up disappearing floating rock maze before the pieces sink into lava & remember how gravity works as soon as you touch them just like Lara frikin Croft. It made exploration look more frustrating than it's worth & iD said the games environment encourages exploration so i figured the NES Ninja Gaiden sequences probably arent required to progress the story. The few clips of rage inducing, platforming I saw prior to purchase seemed like filler activities for achievement hunters & completionists, Every hint of immersion was abruptly met with another abyss to traverse & then I realized finding extra lives was pointless when they're used up by taking more fall damage than from bosses in combat. Imagine Mario in the Brotherhood of Steel....Mario 64 with power armor from Fallout and the Witcher 2 map thats how it feels to navigate this thing. I only rated as high as I did because it is good at what it sets out to do.... So I hate platforming but that doesnt make it trash because its no longer the formula that I loved. However, I hope this review saves at least one person $60 just to learn that Mirrors Edge wouldnt have been any better if it had a bad ass soundtrack & glory kills.

Oh, and the multiplayer! I I cant suggest buying just for multiplayer mode, but it is the highlight of the game for me. Its original, and creative...not just more team deathmatch, capture flag generic modes. Level up demons, unlock skins & in game customizations without loot boxes....just by playing the game, That's crazy......next they'll me that you can still play Doom Eternal without signing into. bethesda.net account.

This is going to sound counter-intuitive, but there are too many weapons, power-ups, and special abilities in Doom Eternal. All the weapons, and weapon modes, and grenades, flame belcher, chainsaw, crucible sword, blood punch and when best to use them is annoyingly complex. I love the original Doom for the simplicity of blowing up things without thinking too hard about it.

There's a lot of cut-rate RPG lore added here that expands upon the history and various factions in the world of Doom, and it's very unwelcome. It's some cheesy paint-by-numbers world-building that reminds me of Diablo's story, and it's unnecessary and just drags the gameplay in Doom. Again, I don't need to know why I'm blowing up demons. Why are they making this needlessly complicated.

There's also some light puzzle-solving of the Uncharted/Tomb Raider variety added in that I have mixed feelings about. It seems out of place for the franchise.

This version of Doom is too much of a lot of things that make the game lose focus. Less would have been more.

Overall enjoyable with several questionable design decisions from the devs. If you played Doom 2016, you already know the strengths. A fast pace, unapologetically hyperviolent , power shooter. Since there's already a litany of praise, I want to take some time to focus on the flaws with this sequel.

    1) There's a very clear 'right way' to play this game. Unlike Doom 2016, the developers all but force you to play Doom Eternal their way to have fun. If you don't routinely and proactively use the Chainsaw to get ammo, you'll consistently run of ammo leading to frustration. If you don't use the flame belch feature for armor routinely, you'll die quickly to heavy and super heavy enemies. If you don't exploit and memorize enemy weak point with certain weapons, enemies feel very bullet spongy and your guns feel weak. After you've mastered the 'dev approved way' to play the game, it's really fun, but it is a frustrating, miserable chore up until that point. This makes me caution casual shooter fans against purchasing this title.

    2) There's a ton of tutorials. After watching several developer commentaries on Doom 2016, I thought the devs understood how important it was to maintain a consistent, engaging pace and gameplay not bogged down by tutorials especially in the beginning. Apparently, I was wrong. By default, Doom Eternal provides you with a tutorial with your first encounter with every new gun, enemy, and ability. This leads to a pace consistently brought to a halt by menus. Since the devs have created a 'right way' to play this game, you need these tutorials to enjoy the game, but it really harms the feeling and pace when a new super demon burst onto the scene for the first time, and you're greeted with a mandatory tutorial telling you exactly how to defeat said enemy. Can't help but think of how other titles like Dead Space use a weak point focused combat without relying on tutorials.

    3) The narrative is again hidden behind codex entries. If you're interested in who the heck are the Sentiels or King Novik or the downfall of earth or the Makyrs, it's all in the codex in the menus

    4) The multiplayer, Battlemode, is a disaster. With assymmetrical multiplayer shooters, the main challenge is balancing the different classes for the devs. In this respect, Doom Eternal's multiplayer may be one of the most poorly balanced assymetrical multiplayer games I've ever experienced...certainly from a AAA studio. There a 2 demons vs 1 slayer which already provides a numerical advantage. The demons can spawn other demons consistently furthering this advantage. The demons have no ammo limitations just timers for abilities. The demons often have mobility advantages/can fly. To win, the slayer must not only kill both demons, but also do so within 20 SECONDS of each other...or the 2nd player controlled demon respawns with half health. Due to these truly awful design decisions from the multiplayer lead devs, the difficulty between playing as a slayer and demon is not even close. The lead designer on the multiplayer is borderline incompetent. Do not waste any of your time on this mode.

I needed this game, things are tough for everyone right now and this was a little light along the way until I could see the light at the end of the tunnel. They managed to take the few things I didn’t like about Doom 2016 and ramp them up to the max. This mechanic of using a particular weapon to get a certain item type in a fight takes away about 3/4 of any strategy from a shooter. Melee attack? Nope, not anymore it just pushes them. Critical attack so you could just polish them off immediately? Nope they flash every time to give you the opportunity to get health so you get to pop them again. Oh and let’s lower the ammo counts so you HAVE to use these REVOLUTIONARY mechanics. And get ready to do some spinning!! Cuz our frenetic next generation game is gonna HABITUALLY spawn enemies behind you. The graphics are good, the music is AMAZING. You get to see Doom guys face, and thats...just...whatever. In 2016 I’d gather my ammo make my plan, try to gather what armor I could, then open up the gore nest and get to work. Now it’s just spin around go through each weapons paltry amount of ammo, chainsaw, ammo, rinse and repeat. And the whole world loves it. Guess it’s time for Grandpa to take a nap, this game makes me tired, sure wish I’d have bought 60 dollars worth of toilet paper instead of this. Expand

I hate to admit it but I’m going to be 100% honest. I beat the campaign, went back and got all the collectibles and after all that I selected the multiplayer mode (didn’t know there was no PVP) and I was crushed. On top of that just from the main menu I could tell this game had no snap maps which makes me very sad because Doom 2016’s snap maps was incredible and reminder me Halo Forge. But I understand budget cuts here and there. The campaign is a little bit of an improvement over the 2016, but at the end of the day there’s too much little tiny cut scenes here and there. Too much dialogue and reading trickled in. In Doom 2016 you punched a monitor because it talked too much. That is Doom Slayer to me and I don’t know what this game is trying to do but it’s changed and not in a good way. There’s a major personality shift here in Doom Slayer, in Doom 2016 they never once told me Doom Slyer is bad ass, but in this game they are constantly telling me, hey look how bad ass he is, but I really just I don’t know, it’s missing something. The battle mode multiplayer honestly just sucks the demons are severely under powered I have never won a game with them and I’ve never lost a game as the Slayer. It may not reach the sublime heights of its predecessor, but Doom Eternal is bursting at the seams with hellacious action.

An absolutely spectacular game, and one of the early highlight games of 2020. Doom Eternal will make you think as you kill, pushing your mind to its limits. That’s not a bad thing. It’s the perfect trip to hell.

Doom Eternal is an outstanding entry in the series marredby a few setbacks. There is a ton of content including one of the best shooter campaigns I have played this generation. The push and pull method of the combat is addictive to master and a blast to play. Everything looks and sounds fantastic and this is a game that makes me smile as a fan since the beginning. While the generation may be coming to an end, Doom Eternal is one of the games that will send it off with a bang.
