If you are a pad player, stay as far away from this as you can. When playing with a pad, the cars will begin to act like clown cars. Funny how people are calling this a simulator. The physics are so bad the avgn should do an episode from this. There is absolutely no consistency in the handling. Never have I ever seen sides of the road so deadly as here. Even the smallest objects will send your car flying. If you drive just an inch off the road, your car will immediately solve the problem of interstellar travel and find itself on Mars.

But when you plug in a racing wheel and pedals every handling issue vanishes like a fart in the wind. I found myself driving almost two times faster than I did with a pad. But physics are still there an they suck ass.

The car roster is pathetic, music sucks and track list is too small. Sensation of speed doesn't translate very well. It's difficult to know when to brake, when it seems like you are doing 70mph but when you look at the speedometer you are actually doing 100mph. Co driver notes are always too early or too late, so you have to memorize every track. Hardly rally anymore, is it?

Looks like we are still waiting for the perfect "next gen" rally game. This isn't it.

I have to give it a zero or as low as scores go.

First it's hopeless playing with just a controller and there's a learning curve too steep for my liking. But what annoyed me was the few tracks provided and driving the same tracks again and again got terribly boring. I ended up deleting it as it's just too frustrating and not for the average gamer. Very little content and not worth

Very little content and not worth spending hours to try and master. Simply no fun whatsoever. Loading times are terrible. As bad as the Witcher. And the AI cheats. For me it was no more than a tech demo but no real fun at all. Tried to like it. Went to the forums to get hints but just pure frustration and that's not what games should be about.

Yes it's a challenge and I love challenges but this has gone overboard. I'm not wasting hours and days trying to master it when I can be having fun playing something else. I think the 'challenge' is put there more to compensate for the lack of content and as 'filler'.

The devs just tried to make as much $ with the least effort and creativity possible so upped the difficulty to make people feel 'challenged'. Lack of variety and content spoiled the game for me. The challenge would have been easier to put up with if there were more tracks and cars but this is as bare bones and vanilla as one can get and it's clear that $$$ was the overriding factor not a great experience for the average gamer.

I can't see many reviews because I can't see many wanting to play this after a couple of days.

Did my homework on this review, this game is not by the original codemasters that made dirt 3, 2, 1. It's the same guys that bought out the franchise of wrc 4 and there horrid with controls over the car slow in all aspects!! an atmosphere of the game they made so yes dirt rally is not apart of the real dirt franchise. Terrible game. The RWD handling on dirt and gravel is far too sensitive, meaning you have to drive too slowly or retry countless times till you learn the stage. There's enough different cars, but each class has one outstanding car which renders the others pointless. There's enough different cars, but each class has one outstanding car which renders the others pointless. Dirt Rally was, almost certainly, not even tested on a console gamepad, as it's virtually unplayable - but the game is far too minimal to be worth buying an entry level wheel and pedals for (>£150!).
Game modes are very poor. Rally Cross has unfair AI at top level, where the AI cars drive flat out even when sideways and are solid when shunted, but easily smash you off the track when you're winning. There's no time attack mode, no ghost cars, no real way to test set ups, there's no official World Rally Championship licence - which is very n i g g a r d l y considering how low budget WRC has gone, so they could've bought it cheaply. The fake rally season mode only has 6, yes SIX, events! It all seems pointless.
Online modes and leaderboards are worthless, only silly Rally Cross races against humans, who no doubt cheat as there's no non-collision options, and no downloadable car set ups or user ghosts to time attack.
Very overrated, a very small and minimal game which should be a budget game, it's not a full game. Even if this game was perfected it's so basic it'd only score 6/10.

It looks great, it's smooth and packed with real-world rally cars to get your motor running. It would benefit from a wider variety of locations, particularly in Hillclimb and Rallycross, but what you do get is very much worth playing.

A great rally racer, true to the roots of Codemasters' series with a no frills approach to the core of the rally experience and brilliant visuals. Challenging and satisfying, it a definite must buy for any rally lover.

I have nothing but praise for Codemasters’ return to the muddy motorsport of rally.
