Can't deny that this is the best racing game that I've ever played . But if you're a beginner it's unforgiving. I thought myself to be good at racing games (forza 6) but in this game I keep crashing, flipping the vehicle and driving off cliffs. Even with all assissts on I am having troubles. I played Dirt, Dirt 2 and other codemasters titles. Still I welcome the challenge. And now, I'mCan't deny that this is the best racing game that I've ever played . I'm really surprised there are not more user reviews for this game. If you are on the fence about getting Dirt Rally you should get it. I dont believe there is a better rally game/sim available. One complaint I have about the game so far is not having more options for race types like in previous Dirt titles but that is it. Expand

Funny how people are calling this a simulator. The physics are so bad the avgn should do an episode from this. There is absolutely no consistency in the handling. Never have I ever seen sides of the road so deadly as here. Even the smallest objects will send your car flying. If you drive just an inch off the road, your car will immediately solve the problem of interstellar travel and find itself on Mars.

But when you plug in a racing wheel and pedals every handling issue vanishes like a fart in the wind. I found myself driving almost two times faster than I did with a pad. But physics are still there an they suck ass.

The car roster is pathetic, music sucks and track list is too small. Sensation of speed doesn't translate very well. It's difficult to know when to brake, when it seems like you are doing 70mph but when you look at the speedometer you are actually doing 100mph. Co driver notes are always too early or too late, so you have to memorize every track. Hardly rally anymore, is it?

Looks like we are still waiting for the perfect "next gen" rally game. This isn't it.

    Weird bugs here and there.
Rallycross AI opponents set lap records only in your races, as you can see their times in the other seats and they are always 2-3 seconds faster in yours.
Overall lack of content. Not enough stages / bland line up of rallycross events.
Some small roadside obstacles absolutely demolish your car or send it flying.
    Indestructible banners.
    Incredibly long load times.

I have to give it a zero or as low as scores go.

Very little content and not worth spending hours to try and master. Simply no fun whatsoever. Loading times are terrible. As bad as the Witcher. And the AI cheats. For me it was no more than a tech demo but no real fun at all. Tried to like it. Went to the forums to get hints but just pure frustration and that's not what games should be about.

Yes it's a challenge and I love challenges but this has gone overboard. I'm not wasting hours and days trying to master it when I can be having fun playing something else. I think the 'challenge' is put there more to compensate for the lack of content and as 'filler'.

The devs just tried to make as much $ with the least effort and creativity possible so upped the difficulty to make people feel 'challenged'. Lack of variety and content spoiled the game for me. The challenge would have been easier to put up with if there were more tracks and cars but this is as bare bones and vanilla as one can get and it's clear that $$$ was the overriding factor not a great experience for the average gamer.

I can't see many reviews because I can't see many wanting to play this after a couple of days.

Racing games are my favorite genre and this is one of the best I have played in awhile. This isn't as easy to pick up as other games, but if you hang in for awhile and get used to it, it is a very fun game. This is the rally game the next gen really needed. DiRT Rally is a very polished, very fluid and very challenging sim. The learning curve is steep, however the tutorial videos which are easily accessible at the beginning of the game, are excellent.

The shining point for me is the daily, weekly and monthly events. These are very unique in the way that once you've started, there's no going back! Not allowing for restarts allows for anyone to put that blazing run in, not the same dweeb who sits and runs the track over and over for days!
The thing that prevent it getting a perfect 10 from me, is the fact that the content is quite limited in terms of locations and cars (hopefully more to come), as well as load times being quite long..

I have been waiting for this since colin mcrae rally 2 on the ps1, due to having to repair your car inbetween stages and the more realistic feel of the cars and game in general. Don't expect to go into this game a champ, the difficulty is punishing I chose RWD (rear wheel drive) don't do this unless you are adept at controling rear wheel drive cars, it was fine on sold surfaces and gravel but in snow could I get it to go round a corner no i could not, when going off the track in some places it will but you right back which can be annoying, it happend to me going round an hair pin in greese my front tire touch the apex and I was reset on track but later in the same track I slid off the track and expected it to reset me because I DID fly away but it didn't which gave me a really bad split time.

Graphicly it brilliant, the over all feel is fantastic, I'm going to spend somemore time with over the coming weeks, but it's going to take alot of practice to back into the flow of things been ruined with too many arcade stye racing games.

Sincerely one of the best simulation racing games, let alone one of the best rally sim games I've ever played. DiRT 3 is a personal favourite of mine. On account of the handling alone, this is a different breed of DiRT; this isn't plain sailing and easy driving! There are no more flashbacks to rectify your mistakes, or lightweight handling to get you through unscathed. You'll feel the car going through the bends, and into every ditch, and you'll have all this to bear through long, challenging stages.
If you've longed for a real challenge in simulation rally racing, or racing games among what's currently available on the Xbox One, this should be essential for your game library!

I'm also a rally fan and ex-junior league pilot IRL, so I won't complain that car is not going straight with full throttle on gravel. It's old school in Dirt Rally, so if you're like me and heard about CmR franchise or even played Richard Burns rally, grab it, you won't be disappointed. Of course you don't need to be a rally pilot IRL to play and enjoy this game, but there is a learning curve. And the more you know about rallying, the easier it will be for you. If you're an absolute beginner, proceed with caution. My advice is to try the game before you'll buy it or get it on sale like I did.

What you need to know: there is no rewind, there is no pay to win, VIP status or style points. One of the biggest misconceptions is that you need a steering wheel to enjoy the game: you don't. It's easily playable on controller with minor adjustments, but keep in mind that the way you drive in rally games is far different than you drive traditional track racing games. You will be correcting your trajectory constantly and that's perfectly normal.

Is this a hard game? No, if you know the basics and ready to learn from your mistakes, but It's unforgiving by today standards. I completed 1/6 of first open championship while speaking on the phone on 2nd position with several restarts, but without knowledge of the tracks using Alpine A110 on XB1 controller, only adjusting saturation and sensitivity. Yes, there was some minor car tuning (gear ration, brake balance and no suspension tricks).

I'm strongly advising all beginners to visit Tutorial section, starting with the part called Mindset.

Hard as hell, but better for it. There are no real guides or techniques, the game really does bottle down to reflexes and reflexes alone. No rewinding, no adding 35 different assists so you win, just a realistic, impeccably designed driving game. It does suffer from lack of content and variety, but everything it does do, it does perfectly.

Best rally game out there. Writing this in 2017 there are still no competitors to this game, adding that it still looks decent.
It is HARD though, dont get it twisted. At the end you can be happy that you finish the stage without having to reset your car twice. That is why there are 10 negative reviews, kids these days got no patience / sense of challenge in them.

Terrible game. The RWD handling on dirt and gravel is far too sensitive, meaning you have to drive too slowly or retry countless times till you learn the stage. Dirt Rally was, almost certainly, not even tested on a console gamepad, as it's virtually unplayable - but the game is far too minimal to be worth buying an entry level wheel and pedals for (>£150!).
Game modes are very poor. Rally Cross has unfair AI at top level, where the AI cars drive flat out even when sideways and are solid when shunted, but easily smash you off the track when you're winning. There's no time attack mode, no ghost cars, no real way to test set ups, there's no official World Rally Championship licence - which is very n i g g a r d l y considering how low budget WRC has gone, so they could've bought it cheaply. The fake rally season mode only has 6, yes SIX, events! It all seems pointless.
Online modes and leaderboards are worthless, only silly Rally Cross races against humans, who no doubt cheat as there's no non-collision options, and no downloadable car set ups or user ghosts to time attack.
Very overrated, a very small and minimal game which should be a budget game, it's not a full game. Even if this game was perfected it's so basic it'd only score 6/10.

It looks great, it's smooth and packed with real-world rally cars to get your motor running. It would benefit from a wider variety of locations, particularly in Hillclimb and Rallycross, but what you do get is very much worth playing.
