So far I am really enjoying the game. It has a Warframe feel to it, but with more polished controls and better shooting mechanics. I love how you can vendor items straight from your inventory. 6v6 matches are intense and varied, and the allowing of vehicles in the matches is fantastic! The art design is perfect in my opinion... Not over the top, but still breathtaking.

The one major complaint I have is the lack of match making for PvE missions. You will run into people during your "quests", but for the most part they are doing their own thing and don't want to join you. They really need to add a mission/group board similar to PoE, allowing you to find/advertise for groups as needed. I know this is the number one feature requested by the community, so I expect it will come at some point.

Another thing they need to implement is some form of main city chat. Either by voice or text. SO many people I can't talk to! Also, where is the clan support? It's on Bungie.com but seems to be disabled...

I honestly think they have delivered a fantastic foundation and a truly fun game, and I hope they continue to build upon it. If they maintain an MMO content model with the only purchases past initial game as ~$10 DLC packs, then I am in for awhile.

I rated this game a 7 earlier. However, after spending a few more hours with it with a full party of friends i would have to rate it around an 8. The PVE is absolutely a blast to play with friends, especially on the hard modes.

The PVP is fun, but it does need some tweaks and it could have really benefited from 60 fps.

Destiny is a big game with a lush variety of atmospheric worlds and their mysterious inhabitants.
You are thrown in the game without much explanation and puzzle your own picture together in the 12 - 15 hours of storymode. Which is the biggest criticpoint of Destiny and was to expected to be, but not for the -in other reviews- stated reasons. You make your own story, the game was never intended to play like a Halo nor a Borderlands. You are one guardian of the city, one of many. So your character lacks the depth a few people were expecting. But there is not a single second in the game you don't feel as part of a larger struggle for riddled mankind to fight its way back to the golden age. Atmospheric, the Game is an absolute blast. From gorgeous graphics to the variety and appearance of enemy's to the deep, yet to be explored lore. Backed by martys ( he will be missed ) incredible music.
The Game sucks you in its world so much that it leaves to much unanswered. The story feels to short for the big Universe which is its biggest weakness. It cries for more because you had so little interactions with other characters and you are left with so many questions. But Bungie could patch sidequests or unlock more story endgame as time goes on.

As a level 20 you have everything what you see unlocked the game guides you no more and you are on your own. The Strike playlist lets you replay random strikes at 4 different difficulties ranging from normal which is quite challenging on its own up to hard and extremely hard difficulties which grant access to high end loot and vanguard points that can be invested in any legendary vanguard equipment back at the tower. Currently there seem to be 5 strikes all quite unique, all rewarding if you succeed.
The Game never feels like a big grind which is a good thing if you don't like this mmo aspect its always rewarding because every enemy has the chance to drop engrammes that contain random loot from common to legendary.
Crafting is a bit simplistic but never the less lets you many options for customizing your gun ( especially high end ones ) and upgrades can become expensive calling you to collect the ingredients or demontating your unneeded equipment for parts.
The Guns all feel really good and fit in with the smooth gameplay which plays like a hybrid between halo 2/3 and MW 1/2 not to slow not too fast making it one of the best playing fps games in a long time.

This especially shows in the crucible ( multiplayer ) when fighting other guardians. The game has a huge focus on skill, allowing a good sniper to dominate the map, even sniping drivers out of enemy vehicles. Map control is hugely important for controlling the crucial ammo spawns ( one guy with a loaded machinegun can turn a game ) and vehicles all off whom are balanced allowing for a easy flank or a blast to hell with your super.
It also brings Halo like medals and complete gamestatistics all stored on bungie.net leaving only the wish / hope for some kind of theatre mode in the future to complete the experience.
For people complaining the multiplayer is unbalanced, there seems to be some code in the game to negate your lvl advance and higher weapon damage so all play on a level playing field. As tested I have not seen a single unfair weapon each and everyone of the weapons you collect have drawbacks, some allow to compensate trough skill and allow for a quick kill.

    In Summary :
    positive:
    +Great Atmosphere / Immersion
    +Beautiful graphics
+Smooth controls and flawless gameplay / weaponplay
    +Variety of enemy's and places
    +great multiplayer
+ 12 - 15 hours scratching on the surface of a deep universe
+ All game is playable with up to 2 friends
    + Challenging and rewarding content

    Negative:
    - Soundtrack is great but a bit repetitive
    - Storycharacters remain unexplored in large parts
    - Story has left way to many questions open
    - no bazillion gunz

In Summary, its not an Mmo, its not Borderlands, its not Halo, its Destiny.
It is primarily a sci-fi shooter with big lore potential and its massively fun to play with a small group of friends, or in multiplayer. The game was made to easily add contend in the future as of daily Updates or paid Dlc, remains to be seen. Its definitively no 0 (people so massively disappointed really should have played the Beta to get an Impression) and its not a perfect game at whole. But the Multiplayer and coop part come very close to that. In Addition comes the great Immersion of the game in general.

    All in all 8.5-9 / 10.

Exploration is about as dull as an NES game, but apart from that the weapons are fun to use, the graphics are outstanding, weapon and armor upgrades are nice, and being able to form a nice three man team is kind of a bonus to it all. I haven't yet explored the entirety of this title but as a separate entity its not a shooter that should be passed up. It offers a lot of solid gameplay time and adequate gun battles. It outshines Titanfall and any Call of Duty repeat and should assuredly be part of any Xbox One owners collection. Expand

Destiny is yet another game that was hyped for months yet fell flat on launch day.

The lack of story is quite a disappointment considering how much Bungie is praised for Halo's deep tale. Okay, so a story is usually pretty bland in a MMO, that's understandable. I'd rather have a bland story than a nearly nonexistent one, however. Nothing very interesting has happened so far (I'm about 6

The lack of story is quite a disappointment considering how much Bungie is praised for Halo's deep tale. Okay, so a story is usually pretty bland in a MMO, that's understandable. I'd rather have a bland story than a nearly nonexistent one, however. Nothing very interesting has happened so far (I'm about 6 hours in with a level 7 Titan). What exactly is our Traveler tasked with? Who or what is our stereotypical big bad boss? Are we supposed to be saving the universe or simply scrounge around for loot to make our Traveler look badass in his/her new gear?

Gameplay is so repetitive that it's boring. Essentially every game has repetitive gameplay, of course, but nothing beats Destiny's wash, rinse, repeat method. As stated earlier, I'm ~6 hours into the game and all I've done is land on the moon for a new mission in the same spawn point, walk the same way, visit a different building (this was legitimately a shocker for me by mission 3), fight the same 3-4 enemy types, latch my Ghost onto some type of machine, protect said Ghost against a wave of enemies, kill a laughably stupid boss, and...that's it. Mission over. My reward? Another mission with the same objective...but this time the enemies are a level higher!

The voice acting is atrocious. I don't need to elaborate any more on this. The background music is okay; it sort of reminds me of borderline strip club dubstep which is kind of weird. As far as other sounds and music are concerned, everything is fairly standard.

Visuals is the area in which Destiny shines. The environments are absolutely gorgeous. Character customization was very well done. I also haven't noticed any armor clipping issues which I have to applaud.

Enjoyment is something I think you'll get out of Destiny only if you have friends to play with. Both PvE and PvP leave you with a bad taste in your mouth if you don't have at least one other person to play with-- but ideally, your firearm team should include 2 other people for the best results. For those of us who prefer to play alone...well, don't expect to run in guns blazing. It's just not doable unless you're playing co-op.

Overall opinion: You simply can't take a generic FPS and call it a MMO if you're not willing to add in elements that make MMOs enjoyable, and unfortunately, that's exactly what Bungie is trying to do. Every successful MMO has a variety of sidequests, some with heart-wrenching back-stories and wonderfully crafted characters who tell said stories. I still plan on finishing this game/reaching the max level in the hopes that endgame content will make up for what was delivered to us on day one. Hopefully I won't feel like I wasted my time after it's all said and done.

Re-visit the same locations over and over in "Old Russia" and fight the same types of enemies. Sense of character progression is missing and nearly existent, despite the skill tree. It's missing all of the charm and fun that games like Borderlands 2 deliver on and feels like another generic shooter that's trying to be an MMO (eg. Defiance). The 4 initial guns are fairly different, a pistol that does heavy damage but has limited rounds in the barrel, a pulse gun, a semi that fires on shot at a time for precision and an automatic. My secondary was a sniper rifle which was great, though you have a limited amount of ammo. You do get ammo when killing enemies.

The missions are fun, but they are typical MMO (yes this is an MMO, not an MMORPG) go here kill that, find that, scan that, etc. Nothing super innovative but fun. The game looks great, no frame rate issues. The music is fantastic. You can coop w friends (not tried that yet) or you can run around and assist others or have them help you without being coop'd. I did not try PVP. There seems to be a large universe but it opens slowly. Lots of gear, some customization of weapons. There's not a lack of stuff to do.

The not so good. It can be repetitive, the missions are similar, lots of enemies that respawn. I think when there are more people playing you may have to wait a bit to finish some objectives. There's not much story, but what there is can be cool.

Overall it's solid, but if you don't like FPS, then don't buy it. If you expect this to be WOW don't buy it. If you enjoyed the Halo combat this is similar.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is fun.
It is not 10/10 as many people stated here, and it is not 0/10 like the others told it.
It is just a fun space adventure if you have time to kill. Or in another words it is a game which wants to be something like halo with mixed mmo elements.

The biggest problem with the game is that mmo element. I bought a shooter and not an mmo. In a mmo I would be okay with the fact that group of enemies will respawn in a minute, but not here. I landed on the moon, and I cleared out a bunker full of aliens. I nearly did not even left the building, and the aliens respawned and started to fire at them. This just kills the feeling what you have accomplished so far.

The other negative thing is the story. There was a cinematic intro for 5 minutes. From that I managed to be informed, that there is some kind of a planet (or a moon, egg or ball?) which for some reason decided to help the human race and gave them advanced technology. But why Bungie?? And how????
After that, something bad happened (the darkness came. lol) and it caused a by apocalypse on the earth. And what is that Darkness?
You control a character which was dead for countless years, but he is OK with that, and never asks anything to catch up while he was sleeping.
I played 7 hours so far from the game but I never get any answers.

The gameplay is narrowed down in the following scheme: Go from the open world to the point A. In the point A go for point B and kill countless monsters. After you arrived to point B release your robot, until he hacks something kill dozens of monsters.

I only said negative things, but it is still fun for me. The games has as I said before that epic space adventure mood. You can realy believe the fact that you are the good guy cleaning the trash from the galaxy.

I say if you have money to spend buy it. But I believe that through september - december there will be enough games which are more worthier than this. I will play this to the end, but certainly I will never touch it again after that.

This game is certified BUNS. Cant play Multiplayer from the start and forces you to play the same boring mission objective over and over and over again. I rather have burned 60$

I played for about six hours. Massive disappointment. Expected so much more from Bungie. Gameplay-wise, it's alright, nothing new but still entertaining enough. After a while, fighting gets terribly repetitive. Bosses are basically beefed-up versions of enemies you'd normally fight, but there are a couple of exceptions. Playing story missions on hard mode is pretty intense. But, beware -I played for about six hours. Massive disappointment. Expected so much more from Bungie. But, beware - sometimes the servers will D/C you and you'll have to restart from a checkpoint - which is pretty infuriating when you're on harder difficulty.

But the story, universe and lore is trash. Complete trash. The game's story tries so hard to be epic and mysterious, but it's not. There is no sense of character with anybody you ever see. Six hours in, I remember seeing maybe three or four actual cutscenes, all being five minutes or shorter. The first borderlands had a more compelling story.

if you want borderlands minus the fun and with better graphics, this is game for you

Destiny arrived this morning and I have been playing it for around 7 hours, ergo this is only really a first impressions review. This is coming from a fan of CoD, Halo (Die-hard fan), Battlefield, Boarderlands, and Titanfall, as well as Forza.

For me, the only aspect in which Destiny dissapoints is the actual gunplay. The gunplay feels like a remake gone-wrong of Halo. Honestly, I sometimes felt that if they were gonna rip of their Halo franchise, they should have copied the lot. The shooting is not as snappy, or accuracy-based as Halo is, and that tells me that this game won't ever be competitive. They really should have left the gunplay as it was, because Halo stuck that balance perfectly.

However, this game is more than just shooting. I can't help but feel that all these guys giving it a 0 either haven't given this game a chance, or haven't played it at all. The whole ambience and feel of the world is real and ingaging. The graphic style is awesome, and render/draw distances even more impressive than Dead Rising 3, (and resolution is at full HD 1080p). The soundtrack, though not quite Martin O'Donnell's best work, is atmospheric and iconic.

The most fun to be had is on Patrols, Strikes, and Raids with friends. (No, we didn't complete the raid D: ). The game is certainly a social experiece, and if you don't have a group of 3 or so friends to play with, you won't experience all that Destiny has to offer, and I'd reccomend sticking with CoD or BF or Titanfall. The level design for the open-world is very good. I mean VERY good. The skyboxes are incredible (similar to Titanfall's), and the levels never leave you without action for too long. Character Customization is cool and very extensive, but doesn't persuade me to try to unlock more gear to swag myself up like I was hoping.

Although the crucible is, in some ways, Destiny's achilles heel, due to the frankly bland gunplay, It certainly adds to the experience. I hear complaints that you can't start in the crucible until level 5? Trust me, you probably won't want to. I recommend getting though the first few campaign missions and do a strike with some friends before getting into the crucible. Fundamentally though, The crucible itself lacks identity. Its customization is very extensive (same guardian as co-op), which is fun and interesting, especially for casuals, but compromises competitive play. Crucible is, despite it's relative lack of revolutionary ideas, is great fun and is a greater challenge than that found in co-op. You can rely on the crucible to hold your interest for a few hours until your friends come online.

Lastly, the framerate is very steady for me, never dropping at all. The controller is perfect for this game, which in some ways actually redeems it. Having played the game on my PS4 aswell, I can tell you that X1 is the place to play Destiny. Movement is fluid, responsive and natural, unlike the clunky nature of the PS4 controller, plus there is no spec difference between the versions. Matchmaking (where applicable) is rapid and finds great, no-lag games most of the time, with matches being close almost every time as well.

The Verdict! Destiny is not perfect. Neither is is the best game of the year, nor Bungie's best game. But, with the debatable exception on crucible and gunplay, the game is fun an unique in its own right. This isn't the Holy Grail of fps games, no game ever will be, but this game has impressed me. Its scale is massive. This game is fun, and is worth the price tag. I certainly do not regret my purchase, and would recommend this to any FPS fan, looking mainly for a co-op/singleplayer experience.

A failed attempt at something new.

Terrible AI, boring fetch quests and the same guns we have seen a thousand times in various shooters. Sure the environments are beautiful. Conceptually and visually Destiny is a stunning effort at originality. Unfortunately, someone forgot to remind developers that games are about what we do, not what we see. And what we do in Destiny is grind away

Overall, a nice concept with an utterly failed execution.

For those who say Destiny is a long-term game, fine. But something has to grab you within your first few hours that doesn't make you want to put it down. After an initial impression of "meh" at the beta, I am giving the full version another shot at proving it is something more than a glorified Borderlands.

So far, it has not done so.

Essentially a Borderlands rip-off minus all the things that make Borderlands unique, like its art and humor, whether you liked them or not. Boring grinding, tiny maps, limited features and customization. This is a marketing campaign, not a game.

The most disappointed I have ever felt towards a media release in my entire life. Firstly, the game suffers from an identity crisis. It results in being mediocre in every category. The IP and the lore was interesting but always felt like it fell short in every aspect. It tries so hard to try and make you feel like a hero that it loses it's finesse and just becomes uninteresting.

Graphically it looks less than stellar. It's definitely not going to win awards for best looking, and it's art style does not make up for this. Low resolution textures, low render

Low resolution textures, low render resolution, and low framerate all ruin the feel of the game, no matter how much post processing the developers tried to pump into the title.

Gameplay and missions get boring and repetitive after a short amount of time with the game. Go to x place and kill y thing(s). Interact with something every so often, kill a boss by removing hitpoints. It doesn't get more bland than this.

The game did not live up to the hype. Subpar execution of a terrific idea on paper. Hopefully the developers will update this game back to where it should be, but I'm not optimistic. Very big disappointment.

It's a slick, mechanically sound, and lavishly produced shooter that uses beauty to try and mask the potentially great but uninspired gameplay inside. [Issue#117, p.62]

Destiny feels like the key elements of an FPS and an MMO gently resting shoulder to shoulder, instead of being fused together in a truly creative way. It plays and looks great, and offers many, many hours of entertainment to anyone okay with repeating the same tasks, but it isn’t exactly the game-changing science fiction epic we felt it was aspiring to.

An ambitious if repetitive combination of shooter and loot based ARPG. A boost in loot drop frequency could definitely boost the fun/score. [Issue#254, p.47]
