Wash, rinse, and repeat. The levels become mind numbing. This game would be a 0 out of 0 but the graphics, sound, and multi-player somewhat redeem the game but not enough to justify playing it. There are just so many odd design choices in this game like adding the grimmoire online where you can look up external material that is not actually added in the game. Not to mention that the last boss is just 3 previous bosses combined together. The whole game just screams lazy, disappointing, and grind fest. Expand

The challenges Bungie throws you into make you think, "Holy crap! How am I going to take on THAT?" and leave you with a sense of pride when you take down some of the more outrageous creatures inhabiting the various vistas. Playing with friends makes the experience incredibly fun, and when we take out that last boss of a difficult strike, our bro-cheers are joyously deafening. The rewards always leave you satisfied with your efforts, but Bungie always conveys that subtle message of, "Okay, you've done that, great job, but can you beat THIS?" I can feel the tension building while gearing up to take on the insane Vault of Glass raid, an extreme teamwork-oriented mission which only the most experienced players can master, and I can't wait to try for that sweet gear at the end of that long, dark, monster-filled tunnel. Even with how much fun there is to have with the current game, there's much more to come. Bungie is activating new events daily, and adding new content monthly, so there's always more to do, even if you're not ready to take on some of the more ludicrous challenges the game offers. Competitive multiplayer is fun, even though stress-enducing competition against better players isn't my favorite experience, and it's cool to see how your new gear fares against other Guardians. Sometimes, however, there's just too much badass stuffed into it. Many, many abilities, as well as secondaries, are one shot kills, and though each class is as overpowered as the last, it can lead to some frustratingly unavoidable deaths. The story is a bit vague on details about the universe, but I'm looking forward to discovering more about the mysterious Traveler and everything that has happened because of it. I know I'll be cheering with my buddies a lot with this IP over the next 10 years. This may not be the expansive universe many seemed to be expecting, which is in part why this rating is not a 9 or 10, but that won't be the case for long. The game's current state could be equated to a stage of infancy, but content will grow with the developers, who alway keep their ears to the ground for fan feedback. If you sold your game already, I pity you. This joyride is far from over, and if you're looking for fun, you've found it. Expand

Big Bungie fan, lover of Halo games but man was this a disappointment! The utter and complete lack of story still has me amazed. I really do like the way you can join up with random people and crazy story, it actually paired me up with a neighbor down the street (I believe it uses locality to determine this). That said I played for 30 minutes last night and was unable to find anyone. Another time I had 3 people in my fireteam and when they all left I was forced to fight a boss by myself. The bosses are somewhat cool looking but require nothing other than shooting for 20 minutes straight so there is a terrrible level of monotony. The multiplayer is passable as well, and while the "gear game" is there, I forsee a very short shelf life for the game beyond a couple months even for the most hard core fans. Starting off with 3 vs. 3 and now utilizing 6 vs. 6 still seems small and not up to par with even the Big Team Battles of Halo's past and nowhere near what we have come to expect from next gen. Quite possibly the biggest disapointment in video games I have ever bought into. FYI you can sell back your game by October to Gamestop and I think still get at least $30 for it. I plan to do this. Still perplexed as how Bungie could have let this happen. Also just as perplexed as to who runs the story division over there? I mean I'm not being picky, its just awful. Huge fan of Peter Dinklage too (Voice of your "ghost"). But there is only so much he can do to carry the story of the game in a role where he is a floating orb. Seriously Bungie, What happened??!?!?! So sad and frustrated. The Critic Reviews are not wrong on this one. Watch the Gamespot video review, its brutally honest. Expand

Admittedly I was jealous of everybody I knew that was going to play Destiny. I'm kinda cheap and didn't want to buy a next gen console just for one game so I figured I'd pass on this game for now and maybe get it when it came out for PC. One friend offered to lend me his Xbox One for a week so I could try it out. I was instantly excited to try out this new hyped up IP. One friend offered to lend me his Xbox One for a week so I could try it out. I was instantly excited to try out this new hyped up IP. I'm a fan of Halo and Borderlands and enjoyed the story that went along with each so I figured this would be a win. What I found was mostly disappointment.

Character creation was pretty simple but fun. Nothing particularly special about it other than 3 races and a decent amount of options. Good stuff.

The first time I used a shotgun I was pissed. Your character doesn't correct after recoil. If you fire an assault rifle the recoil slowly pushes your cross hairs upwards as it should. But when you stop firing it returns to it's starting location. This does not happen with shotguns which makes no sense. Basically after ever shot you have to correct where your cross hairs are but not with rifles... Why?

Loading times are unbearable. To be fair I'm mainly a PC gamer so that's never really an issue but there is no way anybody who plays this game on console is happy with the amount of time they wait for things to load. Wasn't there another way? Maybe make smaller maps so we don't have to wait so long?

The large maps are another issue. What can I do with these huge maps... There is nothing particularly special about them and they don't have any use. They seem to be big just to be big. I end up spawning in the same spot during the start of earth missions only to run across the whole map multiple times in the same direction. Why can't they spawn me in a different spot so I don't have to run by the same rocks and sheds over and over again seeing the same enemies in the same spots. I quickly found out that it's better to hop on your bike and just drive across to your destination skipping over enemies. Basically what I'm saying is travel time is boring. Why not give me a reason to stop and fight enemies and to explore. I haven't found a reason yet.

Boring enemies. It's the same guys over and over again. Also, giving an enemy lots of hit points does not make him harder to beat, it just makes him tedious and annoying. Give the enemies neat abilities like flight, teleportation, grappling hooks, burrowing, tossable shields, blinding effects, etc. It just all seems so "shoot, shoot, cover... shoot, shoot, cover"

The loot system... Oh god, the loot system. What a steaming mess. I haven't gotten far with it but dang is it ugly. Why give a purple drop if it turns into a blue or green? WHY? If you're goal is to make purple loot tough to find then lower the drop rate. Don't make some sort of stupid lottery system. It's like playing the lottery to win a chance to play the lottery. It doesn't work and it needs to change.

My overall experience with watching my friends play and my actual time with the game has really upset me. How can a company with so much money, resources, fans, and backing release such a poorly designed game? I'm overall dissapointed and will not be purchasing this for the PC when it's released.

Save your money, do not buy Destiny.

When I finished the game, I had no idea exactly what most of the alien factions had exactly done or who they worked for, had met no memorable characters, and didn't even realize I had beat the game until about a half-hour later after completing the final mission. Missions are fun, engaging and take place in a variety of both tight twitch shooter corridors and fun tactical sweeping arenas.=, mission design however is so similar that I get Deja vu every time my "ghost" started saying the words "analyze" "decode" "open" or "encrypted". All in all, worth my money. The multiplayer was killer btw, but lack of private matches could be annoying to some.

Now that all those who think that the story is the Hail Mary of this game have spoken, allow me to illustrate one point. This is by every stretch a long-term game and we've only seen the foundation.

Real Issues: This game was hyped extensively, making everyone look at this game instead of those who'd find it interesting, the similar objectives across the various missions are just that, the rare Reach style flying across the map to death bug that has definitely been reduced, Peter Dinklage does have a few painful lines "TRIP MINES... Don't touch them!", and the connectivity issues that plague certain individuals for reason unknown to me

Now for the plus side; Fun and rewarding gameplay to those who are familiar with having to earn the gear necessary to reach the depths of this game as with other RNG loot based games (This is the only FPS I feel keep-able since some event a few years ago where I completely bummed out of the genre, especially a note-worthy title considering it's only on console.), the story is lackluster, but the end effect builds and interesting foundation. Especially with the Grimoire. Then there's the Vault of Glass, here all that you've read about repetitive gameplay is OUT THE WINDOW. Stealth, co-ordination, a brutal assault that is extensive, rewarding, and very well crafted. Character progression is well paced, and remains tangible past level 20. Especially when you start acquiring legendary/Exotic gear.

Overall, if you can enjoy a grind from a game that encourages a hearty challenge for the lucrative reward I'd say this game certainly has it's merits. Definitely not for everyone as advertised, but I'll be damned if this game isn't fun!

Its simply not here and there is no indication that it ever will be.

5/10. Graphics, gun play, sound and music is what you get. The rest is lackluster at best.

    Pros:
    -Beautiful
    -Good Immersion
-Fun to play even the grinding past level 20
    -Music and sound is superb
    -Good Lore

    Cons:
-Little to no story. Nothing is explained really.
-Lots of unbalanced play especially in multiplayer. I love playing as a Hunter but arc blade is extremely deadly. Shotguns are overpowered.
    -Random loot drops are frustrating.

You can't review a game based on future potential, that's not fair and its crooked as hell to put in your review but even the biggest names in reviews are doing that.

Oh wait, there is an article about how this game sold a bunch because they are measuring product shipped rather than products sold. The point of that story is look lots of people like it so you should do or people buying games for people as gifts will think with that many sales it must be a good game...

Here is some advice, with those kind of numbers being shipped plus the fact that its a mediocre game means that there will be a whole lot of copies available second hand at reseller stores so go buy it there and save yourself a few bucks. Maybe you won't get some crappy epenis DLC for a gun skin or something like that really doesn't matter.

The story is not engaging in any way. The game, while amusing and somewhat fun to play, isn't engaging like Mass Effect, Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Bioshock, System Shock....any of the great games are. And I would forgive some of this if it weren't for the lack of ability to actually do MMO social things in the game.

I'm not sure Bungie can fix the story issue at all at this point. That ship sailed. They can however make it so people don't have to go to a website like destinylfg.net to find a fireteam to play with. Add a "looking for group" queue where you can specify who you want in your group (like a minimum age, perhaps?)

This game COULD be a 7. But with the state it's in, it's a 4 really. I absolutely regret buying it.

I'm giving it a 9, because there is no splitscreen and there is absolutely no reason to not have this option (especially with Bungie's past popular shooter). Also, sometimes the servers are wacky (but that is to be expected from any new game). Aside from that, the game is adventurous and exciting, very challenging. The gameplay changes completely depending on your arsenal or class. The game has a nice balance between PVP and PVE options. The crucible is not in your face, like a lot of FPS games tend to do (focusing solely on the pvp content) it gives the players the choice to choose either Strike missions or Crucible games, or even a bit of both- instead of strictly catering to one or the other. Say for a moment this game did not get the attention it received pre release and gamer's expectations were set at a neutral level, I guarantee that user ratings would be higher and the many aspects of this game would be appreciated as they should of been. The fact that this game is from Bungie and people were led to believe that this game was the Halo of the 8th generation did not allow any room for failure or constructive interpretation. My suggestion is buy the game as if you have never heard of it before and know nothing of its pre release hype and expectations and play the game with a clean slate and neutral mind. You'll be surprised how engaging and entertaining this game can be with the right mindset.

PS. Take extreme user ratings with a grain of salt such as 0's. They are most likely using the rating system impulsively and based off an emotional response to the game rather than a calculated and thorough analysis of the game.

The environments are pretty if you take the time to admire them. They're big, but linear. You'll especially notice this during patrol missions on each map. The story is nearly nonexistent and is told through about 4 or 5 cutscenes in between missions, so don't expect good storytelling. PvE and PvP are both fun, but are much better suited with friends. There's no direct communication with other players in the vicinity unless you're In a party together, which is a huge disappointment. Overall, don't expect anything too new and innovative here, but Destiny is a solid shooter wi subpar rpg elements. Expand

You've been playing through the campaign solo, finished a particularly hard section, and then BOOM there was a problem connecting to partner services so now lets kick you out of your solo instance because you can't play single player! Feels like I have been sold half a game. With the incredible hype I expected hours of enjoyment but left with feeling empty.

The end-game content is weak, we are left with PvE strike playlists that have 5 strikes which get old fast and a Raid which is nearly impossible to do because we need to get 5 other people to sit down for a few hours to do with no matchmaking to get it all started.

People need to realize that games are meant to be for FUN. What it lacks, or has too much of, does not matter. It is the most excellent shooter I've played to date. The graphics, mechanics, weapons and abilities all contribute for a well rounded and enjoyable experience. The open world concept with other gamers continuously around is a great way to make it more fun too, being able to interact with other players. Bungie did a GREAT job at this game, and anyone who says otherwise is likely a "glass half empty" sort of person. You need to look deeply at that fact for the reason this game is a 10. It's because of some of the problems that make you want to play.

Most people want to approach it like any other game by completely dominating it in the shortest time possible before moving on. This is impossible due to the rarity of items and is not how this game should be played. Its meant to take months to get to level 30.

Spread the fun out. No farming! Spend a couple hours every day completing your daily's and get your weekly's done when you have extra time. Don't rush into the higher level stuff and just know that you'll get there eventually. This game has true potential and you'll be hitting yourself in the future if you only approached this game with the goal to reach level 30.

The most important thing is for people to stop bombing the reviews so terribly. This game has many flaws, but that also means that it still has a lot of potential and I want to see that potential be seized in Destiny 2. Don't take that away from everyone by ruining the chances for a sequel.

Destiny isn't a bad game, it's just not the promised game. The story and the story telling is worse, but the co-op fun in Strikes is at the moment the best you can find on a next-gen console. I played the game for over 30 hours, and still have fun. The PvP was at the beginning terrible for me, but after some time I managed it to get on the top.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Simply put right now, Destiny is somewhat of a Masterpiece in this modern age of games in terms of what it is and what it evolves into. For those who are into the mainstream "Call of Duty" shooter, this game is not meant for your kind. With a unique take on the MMO side of things. Destiny does what old shooter use to be about; Team work and Skill. You learn your class, you get your gear and play in a style that can be uniquely your own. When it comes to Strikes, Raids, and Crucible however, you HAVE to work as a team. There is no "Lone Wolfing" your way through Crucible matches and not playing objectively; that sort of "CoD" behavior as you will, gets you killed and gets you no where. The enemies are compelling and provide challenge when out in the field; actual intelligent enemies that will try to flank you. This isn't "lob a thousand grenades" this is "move around your cover, get in your face, and beat you down" sort of intelligent, which I find quite nice to have an actual challenge, and overcoming that is even better.

For Story, it is short and sweet; Darkness is bad, you are a Guardian who can wield the Light as a weapon, go beat it up. For those who say the story was lacking? Have you played the the first Halo game? "These aliens are bad and are trying to kill us all. Kill them first and save the universe"! Bam, Blockbuster game. The story isn't about what had already happened, it is what is happening NOW. As a Guardian, you are part of the every going struggle to fight for what is left of the world and the solar system. This isn't about what happened, but whats going to happen and YOU are the author of that story. If you want back story, read your Grimiores for something more in depth. Yes, that's reading, but it isn't required so stop whining about story already.

For those saying it is like Borderlands? Clearly someone hasn't played enough FPS, MMO's and RPG's to understand the claim they just made. Borderlands is purely meant to be a shooter that's hysterical, doesn't take itself seriously, and gives out weapons like candy at Halloween. Destiny does have a similar weapon system, but "similar" is not the same as "ripoff Borderlands". Playing the games together might make people understand that better.

For those who say it's just like Halo? No, Halo is Halo, Destiny is its own unique kind. The enemies have a unique take to them and have their own unique flavor but you can see where the inspirations come from when you look at them. The Fallen are your Covenant ((Halo series)), the Hive are your Locust ((Gears of War)), your Vex are your Reapers ((Mass Effect)) and the Cabal are no less then your Space Marines ((Space Marines)). The story is not revolved around THE hero, but A hero. You are not Master Chief, you are not Commander Sheperd and you are not Marcus Fenix. You are a soldier of Light, working with many just like you toward the same goal.

Lastly, the grind. Yes, it IS a game where you grind levels to max level. Yes, it IS a game you farm for better gear and weapons in order to get to further content. BUT!! This is an MMO RPG FPS, so OF COURSE there will be grinding involved. If none of you every played a game like WoW, I can see your frustration, but **** about it isn't going to change it. This is a first of its kind ((at least in terms of scale and uniqueness, I don't know about any other MMO RPG FPS)) so complaining about it "not being Call of Duty" shows what kind of poor gamer you are.

Bland shooter? Repetitive game play? Clearly those who say this don't know what they want, or have played enough bad shooters that their opinions are completely one sided. For "professional" reviewers to be upset about lack of content tells me they never did much when they played, as there is plenty to do once you reach max level. Strikes are fun and action packed, Crucible is what I expected a Bungie shooter to be which is well balanced playing fields for PvP. Getting Legendary and Exotic items is always exciting and that feeling of accomplishment you get is oh so nice. This is the kind of game that true gamers have come to appreciate as it goes back to what shooters were once about; team work, skill, but overall fun and compelling to play. In an industry filled with mediocre shooters, many gamers have no sense of value for a game quite like this, and many of those shooters lack challenge and finesse.

The game has some faults, like lack of communication with other players, and just a couple glitches, but overall the game is great. It provides a good challenged it feels good overcoming them, you relate more to your character because he isn't THE hero, but a hero among the many. And lastly, the game evolves as you play; it changes as you level up and gain new abilities and becomes entirely different when you reach max level. Don't believe me? Play it yourself and find out on your own.

Gameplay in story breaks down to, go to that area and kill everything while Peter Dinklage talks to you in the back round. The mechanics for the shooting are good and moving through battlefields is fluid, but auto aim can be a hassle and make the challenges in game difficult. Grinding is a problem once you get to higher levels. There are harder game modes to try and solve this, but if you don't have good enough armor, these modes are locked. The normal level gap to get theses harder game modes seems to be two levels below the assigned level difficulty. The next big hassle is getting better weapons and armor after reaching higher level forcing you to grind in story maps explore mode where you can do public event and small missions or pvp multiplayer. In the hub where you can buy new weapons and armor, the best is purchasable with rare currency items or currency marks from story and multiplayer. Then add the fact you can get to the "soft cap" level of 20 in a matter of 3 hours is throwing salt in the wounds. Oh, then Bungie says that the true game starts after level 20, by that they mean grinding and grinding for rare and exotic loot to help you get past level 20. Meanwhile if you try to play crucible it's completely unbalanced by the fact that while it has a disclaimer saying level advantages are disabled, they really aren't because in the Rumble playlist you will see the level 27 out do the level 12 any day with just better armor and guns. I could keep going on and on for this game, but I really don't have the spirit to. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I enjoy Destiny as a fun shooter with tight mechanics and a decent amount of customization. The vistas as beautiful and getting into tense firefights (solo or with friends) is a lot of fun. Your character, although mostly silent, looks really cool in the well-designed armor and flair pieces (class-specific addons, color schemes, ship skins, etc.). However the story is so thin I think you'd find greater lore and depth in a game of Monopoly. Bungie has a beautiful universe with an interesting premise to craft an intriguing story however they fall flat. One of the first missions of the game you meet The Speaker who directly tells you "I could tell you about the battle against the darkness and the fall of the Traveler..." but then he doesn't! I want to know what happened beyond the simple "go kill some aliens."

No game is perfect and they all have some aspect of repetition. But things like lore, character development, and story help wrap the repitition is a pretty wrapper. Unfortunately Destiny doesn't do this. I am sure I'll be playing Destiny for a while simply because it is fun to blast aliens with friends. But as friends playtime slows down and I'm left solo, I don't know how fun the experience will be.

The other thing I'm worried about is the involvement of Activision and DLC. I can see several places where they will be adding DLC (the Grimoire has a card for Jupiter already) but I feel like it will be a nickel and dime situation...keep shelling out money for incremental advances in story or character development. Time will tell....

But a few days after its release, me and my friend decided we wanted a co op game to play together, so we thought we would try destiny. We didn't really know what to expect coming in as we hadn't really followed the hype, but my oh my we were very pleasantly surprised. I have since spent hours on the game playing co op and solo, mostly co op. The gunplay and overall controls feel very responsive and polished, this is complemented by an excellent selection of weapons. Along with this, the maps are quite vast and detailed, a real joy to explore especially with your friends, if not a little small. Killing enemies is very satisfying, especially with the sniper rifles. I also like the idea of the tower as the hub for the game, allowing players to take a break from exploring to come and customise their character. Now, the real element of the game that has kept me hooked for hours upon hours is the character progression and customisation. It feels great to receive new armour, helmets and boots that can improve your character as you level up; it really does feel rewarding and reels me in to continue playing. Also the graphics and music are stunning and top notch.

In saying this, the game has its flaws. The story is meh at best with very repetitive mission structure. This didn't bother me personally as I am more interested in the gameplay elements of the game but it is still a flaw. Also, it seems that the number of players on a map is alway very low. It would be great to have 20-30 people on one server, exploring and taking up missions, creating a fantastic mmo atmosphere. Enemy spawning is also sometimes annoying, as often, you kill a group of enemies and leave for a few seconds, and upon returning the VERY same enemies are back in the same location. This is slightly annoying and makes the game a bit predictable in patrol.

Do not let these negatives turn you off of buying this title, as it is still a thoroughly enjoyable experience if time is invested into playing it. All of these people scoring the game between 0 and 4 are kidding themselves, this is a title worth a try.

    So to sum up:

    PROS:
    -Excellent, responsive gunplay/gameplay
    -Great selection of weapons
    -Vast, expansive worlds
    -Amazing character customisation
    -Top notch graphics and music

    CONS:
    -Poor story
    -Repetitive missions
    -Low numbers in worlds
    -Predictable enemy spawns

    Overall score: 8/10 - Great

The story quests and raids can be fun and challenging, but there isn't that many to keep you entertained more than a few weeks. Even though there is dlc in the works for an additional cost, as a $60 game the story line is extremely short and not very engaging.Playing casually for four days I hit the end of the story line and reached the soft cap of max level 20 (you can go higher for better gear with a special stat).

But, the game really loses it's lackluster in PVP. Since you will most likely hit the end of the story and get close to max level in a few days, you'll be looking to PVP for most of your replay value other than replaying story missions or raids for better gear. The whole experience feels very bare bone minimum. You have three game types: Capture the Flag, Team Death Match, and Free for all. Players start off with their primary weapons and need to scrounge ammo that spawns at random for 2ndary and 3rd weapon slots. Movement mechanics feel unusually rigid; at times I can sprint continuously, at other times my character won't run at all with no meter or warning to indicate why. Abilities can shoot through walls and more often than not, I notice small delays in damage or kills registering.

Aside from the glitches, even the PVP design is just "ok". All classes are arguably balanced due to all weapons being accessible in every class. But, you'll find most people using the 2ndary weapons frequently for easy kills due to high drop rates of 2ndary ammo. There is vehicles in some of the matches, but they feel clunky and are easy to kill making them more of a gimmick.

With such a short story line and basic pvp, Destiny leaves both pve and pvp players disappointed with only an average delivery across the board.

Welcome to destiny. the game welcomes you into its relatively vast world and great art design, with the great customization and choices at the very beginning, all the way to the end, and the engaging plot. but don't be mistaken, a great beginning does not mean a great end.

Destiny bombards you with hoards of loot, making it ever more satisfying to get a new piece that looks great, and has a higher rating than your current one. the different choices of weapons you can have further this customization, by letting you play the way you want in combat. but with the mass of loot you get, once you reach a certain point it becomes like the lottery. you end up throwing more money at it than you get. there are many shops that allow you to purchase new gear, but the legendary and above, being the standard for most 20 and up players, takes a large sum of your time to be able to purchase it, forcing you to play missions you may not like, since most legendary gear you can purchase requires a different type of currency, being significantly more difficult to farm than glitter, the standard currency. and after that you still cannot purchase this shiny outfit or weapon you want, unless you have done enough quests for the person, or group. but when you finally get your hands on the new piece of gear, it feels amazing. this game truly is, at end game, quite Grindy. but most of the time you will have fun doing it, boss battles, PvP, you name it.

Speaking of boss battles, they can get insane. the bosses may be easy, as they are usually big and wonky beasts, with many corners and walls to hide behind when it attacks, but its the gigantic army of minions it has to help it that make the battle challenging, consisting of mini-bosses, and other enemies hard enough on their own. it eventually boils down to one player baiting the boss away from the others so they can take out the minions, with the later job being harder. and when that is done, you have a well designed boss battle to fight out, with a boss with usually around a million Hp, it usually feels like. and when you finally kill the abomination, you can dance on its corpse, quite literally, and compare the great loot you got with your raid partners.

PvP feels wonky. it takes a while to get used to the fact that unless you use an auto rifle and a shotgun, you will probably die a fair amount. getting good with other weapons in PvP takes some practice. but when you do, others will probably think your hacking, like any other PvP based game. and it feels good. Tons of maps to play on, all very well designed and balanced. some for long range combat, others close quarter, others can be both. there are different PvP modes, like large scale modes such as a hold the point game mode, and team death match. the best thing about PvP is that its skill based. there is no best weapon, no best armor, there is only you and how you play. well, besides the hunters, who are terrifying close up. the warlocks are amazing for crowd control, i remember one time, i killed all 6 players on the other team with my super charge. i was immediately labeled a hacker after that, like any multiplayer game ever, but boy did it feel good. the titan is surprisingly, more of a supportive role, as you will usually see a titan running around spamming his shield in a fight, making him temporarily invincible, making it very easy to take capture points, or if your in a sticky situation. once again, there is no best class.

the art style is bright and happy on earth, dark and depressing on the moon, ETC... The sound track makes it ever more immersive, with the booming of a fight, the soft melody of the cosmodrone...
the mechanics are great with the game. i cant stress this enough.

the main problem with this, is the lack of story. the story missions, while ultimately leading up to something, never tell you much about the lore, or story of the guardians or traveler. this can be fixed easily in expansions, just like the other weakness of the game.

I hope this was helpful, as this review was more to show you the mechanics of the game, less the game itself. there are plenty of reviews for that. but what everyone is complaining about seems to be the "questing system" which is traditional MMO questing, like, go here and kill this, go there and collect this. this is only in one mission type people! and its an optional mission type! if you don't like this, don't do it. that simple. its made for mainly glitter farming, and just goffing off, you dont have to quest.

but other than this, there is nothing wrong with destiny. the many people who claim the game to be bad, are comparing destiny to games it can't be compared to. this game is more of an MMO than a borderlands, its more of a shooter than an MMO even.this is a very unique game, and it gets the job done, through and through. i hope this was helpful. i would have written more, but im almost out of characters :D

i hope this convinced you to purchase this great game.

There are two elements to this game. First is the bland gameplay and vanilla story that takes no interesting turns. The second is the always online server system that drops me out of gameplay randomly and for no reason when every other device hooked to the wifi still works fine. I made it to level 10 and then decided to cut my losses and sell the game.

The story goes nowhere and ends with the weakest boss battle out of all. The multiplayer is Call of Duty meets Halo so, if you like a game that requires little skill and just random nonsense this is perfect for you. Otherwise, don't believe the hype. Expand

One way that it falls short unfortunately is the PvP. There is a considerable amount of lag compensation going on that often ends in hit trades or being shot by someone not even facing you. Not only that, the use of special abilities in PvP is questionable. Sure it's satisfying to one-shot three people at once, but you always feel cheated on the receiving end, and I feel it takes away from the enjoyable aspects of it, they need to be nerfed for PvP or just removed from it entirely. Overall, I think Destiny deserves an 8/10. It would have been higher but the PvP needs tweaking. Expand

Great FPS/MMO! It is exactly what I expected from Bungie. The gameplay is amazing! It may lack an over the top story but the incredible single and multiplayer coincide beautifully! It is just as much fun to play solo than it is to play with others cooperatively.

I've had a lot of fun playing, but that doesn't change the fact that this game is falling way short of it's proposed mark. Clearly the budget for this game was largely spent on advertising. For me, the story and cut scenes were the most disappointing. Story sucks, and cut scenes are lame and few. The game was tailored for players to be spending more and more money as the months go on.

All the story/leveling quests are repetitive kill and fetch quests, and the game truly begins at the soft level cap of 20 - where you then grind up to 30 by getting gear that has light by repeating dungeons and eventually raiding. People give Halo 3 ratings of 98/100, yet this game, which is basically almost like a sequel to Halo with new morpg features and in my opinion better story (Or at least a bit more sense has been put into smashing hordes of monsters), is being so underrated. Now I do not exactly know how the supposedly "sucky" endgame really is yet, but I do know that there are two expansions on the way and one of them is being released in December this year. If you add competitive multiplayer and strikes then the lifespan of this game is greatly extended, multiplayer is the main reason this game has been created.
Just so I am not praising this game, I do have to point out that some of the monster fights might get old after a while, but the story and hunger for loot has always kept me going. Performance-wise I play Destiny on Xbox One, a console a lot of people spit on, and the game plays in 1080p 30FPS constantly. I am not too sure about the exact frame rate but I mean the game has never even tried to freeze, lag or have frame drops. It plays so fluent and it truly feels nextgen This is definitely worth the while, it is an epic game and absolute must have. This game is the game that should make you switch over to next gen.

I think people are just very spoiled these days and in their heads they create image of games that are impossible to do. I have no idea what people have expected and absolutely no idea why would anyone rate the game so badly, perhaps they have played the game on x360/ps3 and expected the same experience I had. The thing is that on the old consoles the game does not have access to some features because the old consoles are not able to handle them. I played beta on 360 and it looked horrible, that's why I have bought a new system just because of this game. This is a next gen game, you should be rating it after playing it on a proper system that has access to its full potential with graphics and online features. This game does NOT deserve such a low rating, definitely hugely underrated game.

I never write reviews but felt I had to for destiny because I see people judging a game they have not even finished or finished and don't even bother to attempt the endgame.

Id like to start with all the **** over repetitive missions. im just gonna throw a few games out here Call of Duty, Battlefield, Borderlands, Diablo 1-3, Grand Theft Auto series, pretty much every game ever made.

Fps games like CoD or BF is the same round after round kill each other and take objective or retrieve bomb or whatever. then we have borderlands which all of its quests are the same as destiny. go retrieve x and bring to y go kill x many or fight in corridors and kill this boss. then we have diablo the king of repetition. so I fail to see why people can love those games (and every other game on the planet) but when destiny does it somehow its wrong? Either people need to take their stupid pills or everyone is losing their minds. I never judge a game by this because when you boil it down every game falls into kill x, retrieve y, fight here go there. Argue this point all you want but you might as well bash every other game that you play.

Second people who don't finish the game or finish the Story missions and quit should not be posting any reviews because honestly you have not played the best part. I finished the story and finished leveling to 20 and did my first heroic story daily mission, and yes it was a random mission from the ones you already played but when I got to that last boss fight it was one of the most hair pulling yelling at tv fights ive had in a long time but it was also the most fun once I finished I realized destiny is going to be amazing. I was a little let down they didn't have more variety in the types of missions granted its more kill x or grab y but wish they had more to cycle through but all that ended once hit level 20 and fought my first heroic daily boss. the fight was really tough but it wasn't because they made the fight overly difficult and they didn't just give the enemies ridiculous health what bungie has done is genious.

Bungie just doesn't up the health and damage like so many games I see. Granted they did both of those but it was minimal compared to other games what they did do was make the enemies more aggressive and threw more of them at you and nothing is more nerve racking then trying to regen health behind cover only to be swarmed from all angles. Bungie made you use all your abilities you have to win and they set it up to keep you on the move dodging fire instead of hiding. I had so much fun once I figured that out and after I did I still kept dying but I knew it was my fault for not learning the fight and once I did learn it I finally took down the boss and it was amazing.

What im saying is ignore all the morons that quit early and don't even attempt the endgame so im here to tell you ignore them and keep playing it gets better so much better I cant wait to try my first raid. Hell the guild that took down the first raid played for 14 hours straight and died 1605 times and when they finished bungie congratulated them and told them to try it again on hard mode. lol.

If you like shooters and you like a challenge play this game yes the leveling can be a little dull and I gave it a 9/10 because the story has a great setting but they failed to execute and that's why dropped it one point. But I can tell you if you want a challenge and like games with combat that is not broken and abilities that compliment your guns then ignore all the haters and give this game a try. I guess if you like to have your hand held and don't like a challenge then I have nothing to say to you because your not a real gamer.

Destiny a game that was said to be ushering a new generation of gaming is ultimately stale and underwhelming in the entire execution. I wanted something more out of this game but the game constantly makes attempts to bore you with the archaic story missions that consist of 'get to this zone, fight waves of enemies rinse and repeat'.

Bungie wants to implement features into the game that are common in most MMO games, yet they don't want to be aligned with the genre "MMO". The end result is a hodge podge of systems that are put into place but ultimately fall on it ass. The game has potential but it is far away from that point in time. It isn't acceptable to say that 'this game gets better as time goes on', because that means for now we are stuck playing a totally bland and generic shooter albeit a pretty one with good sound design.

The PvP is a joke, how the level 20's don't have a separate tier to level 1 through 19 is beyond me. Simply put the team with the higher level characters win. It isn't uncommon to see a team get 2 to 3 lowbies and the opposing team get all level 18 and above. You are instantly fighting a losing battle when you get people below level 10 and that in itself seems like a horrible oversight on Bungie's behalf.

Now all that being said the PvP and Missions can be fun, that is until it just decides to lose your connection to the internet, even if you are just playing a mission by yourself. This results in you having to start from scratch and play through the underwhelming mission type to get back to where you got dropped from. It is much more infuriating when you are in PvP and get dropped when you are about to finish the mission.

An expansion pack has already been announced for December which quite frankly is in itself not on at all. The game won't of been out for a full 3 months before more content is coming to it (content which it needs mind you, but shouldn't be paid for by any means). This "expansion" pack is a fancier way of saying "DLC" that is what this is, sure it may have story, armor, guns but at the end of the day how can you release an "expansion pack" to a game that has been barely out for 3 months that you expect to get a 10 year life cycle out of, it is an absolute joke!

I am annoyed with Destiny, I try to like it but on frequent occasions the game makes me hate it and tire of it. The uninspired mission types the unbalanced PvP the constant net connection which is only in place so people don't hack the game, which I am sure is going to happen regardless of what measures you put in place to stop it.

A game that could of been a new era of gaming is just a shiny, stale shooter that brings minimal RPG mechanics decent gun play to a market that is flooded with these same things. It is a shame that the supposed $500 million budget couldn't of extended to finishing of in game mechanics, sorting out the terrible story (if it can be considered one at all) and the poor poor attempt at mission design.

Also any review you see dated the day of release needs to be ignored. So many 10's on the first day of release.... no.. just no.

Good graphics cinematic locations and excellent voice acting destiny proves an overhyped game can be a good game but the multiplayer is bland sometimes It becomes repetitive but over all a must buy. The weapons feel powerful as well as the melee like halo. Oh and the o 1 2 3 4 votes can go to hell

Destiny is the worst game out there.

It was in development for awhile...hinted at in Halo 3: ODST Easter eggs (2009). The game feels like it’s been stuck in development for much longer than that though. The plot—if you can call it one—is not compelling or interesting. Gameplay mechanics are okay but they neither are twitch realistic (think CoD) or arcade-fun (think Borderlands 2).

Sadly the developer advertised the game to be a massive shared world shooter; that being said, the largest multiplayer matches were measly 6 vs. 6 teams. In comparison, Halo 2 for the original Xbox was pitting 8 vs. 8 matches back in 2004.

Also what is up with the no proxy talk feature? It’s frustrating that I can’t vent about my frustrations with other players in game without navigating the cumbersome menu screens (which, might I add, were molded after the navigation screens of Halo 2… seriously guys, this is anything but a next-gen experience).

Giving it a 0 for the insane hype and terribly boring experience. Do yourself and do not purchase this game. Bungie should not play their fans for the fool like this.

Missions are too repetitive, the 3 races are there for no reason other than to have 3 player races. Very little Lore at all. Overall it feels like Halo Jr Lite Easy edition. Maybe all of the best of Bungie went over to 343 Studios?

    Pros:

    -Excellent graphics
    -Smooth and polished user interface
-Cool artstyle and music, design of the enemies and player gear is great
    -Good MP map design
-Cool movement options with double, triple jump
-Character customization with skill trees and various abilities via subclasses are fun and addicting
-MMO like environment in a FPS
-Tower is a great location with many vendors and really feels alive
-Excellent stats online both on website and app

    Cons:
-No ingame voice chat in a social game like this is inexcusable
-Although the setting is cool the story and enemies and faction are never really explained and almost no information can be gathered in game (see below) even if you seek out for it, so the story is sadly very forgettable.
-Most objectives in the Singleplayer are the same.
-Very great part of the story and lore are not in game but in an app or on Bungie website via "Grimoire cards". Why?
-Random unsatisfying loot drops, repetitive farming for better gear as opposed to loot drops from bosses as reward
-Subpar AI design, Halo CE by the same developer had better AI, they've done it before, why not build onto that->
-PVE difficulty achieved by buffing enemy health to ridiculous levels (especially bosses) as opposed to smart behavior
-ADS galore, doesn't work with the great movement options, you can jump around but not shoot while moving, so counterintuitive and makes gameplay boring IMO. Can't run and run.
-Random spread and stupid recoil to limit the players ability to land accurate shots. In contrast: Heavy aim assist so there is little skill in shooting (especially Heavy Weapons and Super Charge Abilities are to easy to kill someone with). Why do developers thing randomness is fun. It's not.
-Unbalanced and random PVP with frustrating insta kill abilities that should not be in a "competitive" environment as Bungie calls it (Before you say I suck, I'm usually not at the receiving end of these abilities, look up GT: voi7e)

VERY LONG TIME GAMER REVIEW. I played atari and got a NES system when they were brand new. Have played almost every system released since, even 3do.

THIS IS AN UPDATED REVIEW AFTER PLAYING FOR ONE WEEK I AM RETAINING MY 9 RATING as some of my only issues have already been corrected. I did not consider them in my original first impression review as they seemed like day one launch type glitches that are usually resolved immediately. And they were. So maybe 9.5

    The Negative:

    1. Server issues. I don't want to see another code "fly" "hare" or "centipede" again, EVER! This game seems to be 100% connected and requires internet access to play at all times. This is scary considering how fun this game is. If the achilles heal here is the internet or server access. UPDATE: The server issues have settled, as I have not had more than 1 or 2 disconnections since the day one issues. I've noticed a couple of updates that hopefully fixed the problem. Also, one issue I noticed was with the sound. This still seems to be an issue and it occurs when you leave the game for some time and maybe "xbox go to TV" for a bit and then come back. Whenever I returned, I would have sound for xbox commands but not for the game itself. FULL REBOOT needed. Now I can just re-sign in and it seems to correct the sound. FIX THIS!

    2. Repetitiveness - As any long time or informed gamer will know, every game is repetitive to an extent. Historically some of the most simple and repetitive games are also the most successful, ie PacMan. It is expected and to base your whole negative review on that element says a lot about how much you do not understand about yourself and games. The only negative thing I feel when I play this game, when it comes to repetitiveness is with the levels themselves. It takes away from the richness, realness and diversity of each individual level or mission when you have already been to the exact same area in a previous one. It is still challenging, just distracting. It feels cheap and adds a rushed feel when you encounter this as a gamer. It's kind of like when you compare the original "Yoda" from Star Wars vs the CGI Yoda of the newer Star Wars. The original Yoda was more life-like and convincing. With the original puppet Yoda, you were not distracted by thoughts of the CGI version like, "I wonder if the actor was actually talking to someone when they acted out this scene or if they were pretending someone was there??" That is kind of how I felt about the recycling of the levels, it was distracting and took away from the reality or real factor as you try to imagine a real life situation that would warrant coming back to the same place over and over again to fight a different enemy... "Why didn't we just do that the first time we were here?"

    3. Difficulty Settings Are Limited - I love the challenge of increasing the challenge, but that is difficult to do from a single player standpoint. You only get two choices in this and it is possible that you could select a difficulty making the completion of the level impossible or too time consuming. This may be irrelevant as this game is very well balanced and seems to adjust to you, never dull or never too easy on "normal."

    4. Lack of social presence. Seems crazy when you consider you see other players all the time in this game. This is unlike Rockstar's "Red Dead" where you could chat within proximity of other players. You cannot chat with others unless you are partied up.

    The good:

    1. This game is so well balanced it is like a hybrid of a reality based game, first person shooter, and fantasy. Almost everything can be customized, ranked up, and expanded upon. Your stats, gear, and record are public and comparing with friends is very easy. Which for any competitive player, will suck you right in. You can add some variety to your character by adding and ranking up sub-classes as you go. I have only touched on this and it seems exciting and strategically challenging. Your classes only grow with level rank increase so you begin questioning, "Do I focus on my primary class or secondary?" Your rank is your rank. It and your weapons carry over from the storyline to multiplayer. I love this, it reduces the learning curve and encourages more people to play multiplayer versus.

    2. Social factor - As of this review conversing freely with other players is not happening. But the presence of other players carrying out their missions distant from you and sometimes crossing with your objective, is really cool.

3 Visually stunning you will stop and gaze.

The bottom line: This is a great game. The negative are very minor in comparison to the addictiveness, fun, challenge, and richness of this game. If you buy this game you will not be disappointed.

Something I've learned over the past few years:

Gamers are a bunch of whiners. It doesn't take much for them to complain. And it's not just about video games in general, like this one. We could push it to things like the Zoe Quinn controversy. Crazy how far people go with things that shouldn't matter, and happen in many businesses whether you like it or not. Or hey, even the typical

Crazy how far people go with things that shouldn't matter, and happen in many businesses whether you like it or not. Or hey, even the typical Playstation vs Xbox fanboy wars... they just love to hate and complain, again, over things that shouldn't matter.

And here's Destiny. I've been playing it for a bit, and so many people complain about it. No, it's not a game that's going to change people's lives. But it's a great looking, fun game and I enjoy playing it. Play it with friends. And I'm sure Bungie will throw out more and more updates to make the game more enjoyable. What else should I even say?

It's not like Bungie is out there to rip people off since it's not a classic hit like Halo. Yet that's how people seem to be taking it. I don't get it. Oh, the internet.

It's a well polished, great game. If you are disappointed, so be it. Let's leave it at that.

This game is everything and in some ways more than what I expected.

I think that it is silly of people to give this game a score of 0. To me that means a game does not even exist. Destiny is in no way not playable. It is quite the opposite. I too was pulled in by the hype, but all the hype never showed me what Destiny is not. All of the hype to me was true to what the game is.

People; not the media, were building up this game in their own minds. In my opinion Bungie and Activision put out the game that they said that they were going to make.

Overall I have enjoy this game, I beat the story in about 10 hours and am still loving it. It is everything that i expected it to be; an FPS with a space theme with awesome art, and fun weapons. And also some cool looking, and useful armor upgrades. There is even an in depth class system that it fun to mess with.

I wanted to wait to write my review so as to avoid a knee jerk reaction to the game. I also have read quite a few people on here bashing the game and I respect your opinion even if a bit miss guided. To be fair I started judging this game shortly after Bungie handed off the reins to 343 after reach was launched. The initial rumblings were a kin to a mmo but with shooter aspects. To be fair I started judging this game shortly after Bungie handed off the reins to 343 after reach was launched. The initial rumblings were a kin to a mmo but with shooter aspects. This intrigued me. long have I thought that Bungie could have done something like this with the halo franchise but I digress. The game play feels solid. Shooting mechanics are as to be expected in a vary Bungie style. The super ability are thought out and as for cool down time I am not sure why people complain about it. If you are frugle and work on your building your character you can unlock armor that drastically reduces the time need to build that up. Also if you pay attention to your level upgrades you can decrease it even further. The levels are huge in patrol mode and in story missions they still feel large but they do not let you stray to far from your goal. Once you hit a firefight you are in for a treat. They are tight and full of action. You will be looking for cover a lot if you have a low level character but that is a good thing if you were a tank right off the bat it would not be as enjoyable when you unlock really good gear. I would like to address a few comments at this point about communication. Yes you have to invite people to chat with you in order to organize you fire team. with that said most of the time I will never talk to you but I will help you, kill things, and revive you if you need that. Most players use to proximity mics and open headset screaming will not like this game because it is not for you. We have COD and Halo for that. Go play those games. This is a MMO lite. As for grinding for gear and weapons. That is inherent apart of rpgs. I knew that going in. if you know that going in you will do just fine and enjoy the game. The one thing holding this game back is the less than informative story. If you want to know what is going on you have to go to Bungie.net and look at the cards you unlock. (by the way if you upgrade cards on their you will get extra bonuses in game.) That is a little annoying. That is my only issue. The worlds are huge fun to play in the game play is frantic at times and slow when needed. I also fee that at the "end of the game" the real game starts. With raids and high level replays the game gets new legs.

At the end of the day I love the game. The little things that annoy me are just that little and I think the story missions with the expansion pass will greatly increase the playability of the game for years to come. My final notes. Please disregard the day one reviews. Anyone bold enough to shout out "Terrible not worth your money." has not had time to truly play the game and ultimately has not the experience nor the knowledge to truly rate the game and is just click bate. also I will add one * to my review. I enjoy Bungie game. I have owned many. I also have not enjoyed playing cod or battlefield. So also please take my review with a grain of salt. I like Bungie. I have fallowed them for a long time and at the end of the day if you see me come say hi or join in a dance party. If you need help reach out to the Bungie community and someone will answer your call. This game is not for the what I like to call "Bro game" but is truly for the rpg mmo crowd that enjoys a good shooter.

I wont lie there is a lot of missions where you have to kill and shoot stuff. But lets start using our brains now. Isn't that what most FPS are? You shoot **** in the first person. If you are expecting something else than that with lots of player interaction(not voice of course unless you are in a party with them/One of the games short comings)

The reason why I'm not giving Destiny a higher score is because it did not meet my standards for anything higher than a 8/10(Good not great but still very much enjoyable and a little addicting)
Personally I have never wanted to play Multiplayer(PVP) matches since Halo Reach when it comes to over all fun factor. Don't get me wrong this game fall flat in most PVE elements but PVP it really strikes my fancy.

Now for a lot of peoples comments I have heard about not having private matches and such. I never once played an MMO and was given the option to go into my own private server with my own rules. Remember this is not just a FPS. Not having private matches is a MMO Element.

Some of the short comings to name a few
Voice actors not putting any heart into the character they are portraying.
The writing is few with little to no impact on the players.
Most Characters are just there with no real reason to be besides selling gear.(this might change later on but not likely)
In PVE the AI can get predictable to the point even on higher level they are easy to deal with.
The over all Lore/plot. As Much as I like the idea and I can dig it. The cinematic scenes are few and are not as engaging for the upcoming mission. I often see them as a waste of time(also no skip scene feature)
No Mic communications between player in-game. I really was looking forward to that but at the same time Silents is nice within the tower(safe zone) but in PVP I wish they added in voice communication. Trash Talkers, Helpful warnings of inbound enemy's heading to Point B. All of it. But there isn't.
And for the PVE side. When the battle is intense on a strike mission you wont always hear "Guardian is down" and it be nice to be able to communicate with other players since not all of them want to join your party chat. It be nice to have that option so strategy and helpful tips can be applied to our team mates.
In my personal opinion in-game communication is its biggest short coming/issue/flaw.

But again It can be easily brushed off the shoulder on the fact on how addicting this game can be. The PVP is fun and the weapons seem balanced by on its stats. Its all about finding the right gun for you and sticking to it. I personally enjoy the hand-cannon and most don't because rate of fire and small clips but for a precision shooter it works well just like the scout rifle with less impact.

Strike mission on the PVE side are fun and they become even more fun when you end it with a Legendary item.(rarely happens but its enough to lift your spirits up)
Raids are just now added and I am a bit bummed out you NEED/CAN only play with people you know. No matchmaking for them. . .My opinion terrible decision. Sure you can pick whos good enough to play with but what if you don't have any friends to play with and the lack of Voice communication in game makes it Difficult to build a group for one. You would be force to go to your local Forum and Plead for raiding buddys that doesn't always pull through. So I see it as Content that should be fun but most likely wont be because of the amount of interaction you need when the game does make it difficult to do so.

I would recommend to play it because you judge it and play everything. If you feel its easy than please take it off easy and push that difficulty to hard. The game will make you work hard to earn your stuff and play even harder to achieve your goals. I found majority challenging until of recent but that is because of my experience in how to handle fights and my over all equipment. Before how ever it was a climb.

Gotta give this an 8/10 Can't ignore the flaws in the game but the fact it has keep me playing after so many hours put into it and its fun. In reality the only factor that matters. Is it fun to play or not?

If you nit pick why you SHOULDN'T like a game than yeah you will never have fun with it but if you just sit down and enjoy playing it no matter what it is than that is all that should matter. This game nails it for me on that.

As it seems with most online games, Destiny is more fun playing with good friends. The lore is OK, yet wholly uninspiring and unimaginative. The hype became bigger than the game, and in those regards, nothing will ever be what everyone hoped it would be, but taken at face value, the experience has been fun. It's a good game to pass a couple of hours with friends a few times a week.

Some say it does a lot but nothing exceptionally well. Guess what people. This is the FIRST of it's kind. It's about stacking stats, specing into situations, organizing group dynamics, and preparing tactics for boss fights.

This game is more mmo than anything else but core mechanics make it FPS. I played Wow and thought i would "beat the game" when i hit level cap. I found out after 6 months of leveling that i completed the "tutorial" and the real game was about to begin. Bungie has borrowed that exact architecture. Sadly that's not for everyone. It isn't instant gradification. It isn't 100% about tactics. It marries twitch gameplay with stratigic preparation. Usually gamers fall in one category or the other. If you can't embrace both world than you will not like this game.

If you can then this is THE game you have been waiting for. Sorry COD guy....this isn't pray and spray that gives out achievements for showing up. You have to be good. You have to think. You have to work together.

There's one side mission about collecting data from fallen enemies... The trick to that, find a spawning area on a map that's constantly used via Earth, Mars, or Venus. Kill those enemies then run out of the area about a hundred yards and return to, and surprise! The enemies have ALL respawned.

The price of this game should've been $29, because this is more arcade, then a full gaming experience.

I even gave Bungie the benefit of the doubt due to the lack of reviews upon release. I won't do that again.

If a game doesn't have a Metacritic rating at launch by the people (Game Informer, XBOX Magazine, or IGN), who are suppose to "Review" them for the consumer....DON'T BUY IT.

I don't often trade in my games, but I will try and recoup some of the $$ I wasted on this game.

It is exactly what I expect. Everyone is saying it isn't as good as Borderlands, or Halo, or WoW. STOP COMPARING IT TO OTHER GAMES. If they wanted to make a clone of another game then they EASILY could have.

Destiny is its own unique game and I enjoy every bit of it. I REALLY like how they did the endgame piece that there is another stat on armor, called Light, that is what brings you

Destiny is its own unique game and I enjoy every bit of it. I REALLY like how they did the endgame piece that there is another stat on armor, called Light, that is what brings you past lvl 20. So it means that if you are with all lvl 22 players then you have around the same level of equipment. This makes endgame strikes(dungeons) and raids a lot easier to play, as you can clearly see that a lvl 20 player doesn't have good enough gear for a lvl 24 or 26 strike.

I gave Destiny a 6 because of the repetitive and boring campaign! This campaign is incredibly boring, there are few cut scenes and there isn't enough detail or story details to explain anything about your character or the earth or the universe. Along with that the campaign missions are overrated to the hype this game got earlier this year. If your a campaign gamer don't buy this game. I gave this game a 6 because of almost everything else I love playing crucible I just can't stop playing it. I'm level 26 and I love it. Crucible for me is a lot like Halo you can strafe for kills and melee is similar to halo but it feels more like an mmo as in the classes each play a different role and I find that amazing. The smooth interface of the game also impresses me it feels just easy to use and simple. Its a shame this game isn't a 10 because the campaign is extremely dull and lacking excitement or even a story but crucible for makes up for that and at least pulls a 6/10. $60 is to much for this game especially without and DLC. Was this game over-hyped? Maybe a bit. But that doesn't stop it from being any more or less worth playing. Here's my review. I don't understand how any of you can give a proper rating after having played the game for just hours or days. This is an MMO. A long term game. There is no way that critic or gamer has had anywhere close to enough time to evaluate game play and see if the endgame is worth it. Grinding through a game just to get to the top isn't playing a game. It isn't exploring and learning and experiencing. I would love to see the halfway decent, competent review that has come out since the game released that hits everything. Yes everything. Because until you can do that you are not qualified to give a proper score.
This game is something different and it seems that people hate change. It is fun and I haven't found questing or general exploration to be anything but a hoot. The only problem is that the multiplayer matching system can seem a bit unbalanced even though it is supposed to even everyone out. But then again COD does the same thing and that's all people play in that game.
This is a long term endeavor. Something that won't take the weekend for you to complete. Don't expect to find everything out of the gate. Don't expect to get overpowered. For those who like to play like that then nothing will every satisfy you because you are more interested in blowing other people away rather than enjoying the game. Maybe it isn't always about being the best and winning all the time. Maybe sometimes it is just about enjoying the game. Pffffft. Like you all aren't going to rip that line apart.
Give the game a try. You might like it.

While Destiny initially comes off as a highly-repetitive, highly disjointed experience, it blossoms into something much better, given the chance. True, content after getting through the story arc is limited to repeating a bunch of very simple-natured missions and bullet-sponge boss raids (strikes), the core gameplay is something that ages like wine. The controls are impeccably tuned. The graphics and vistas, amazing. The weapons (at least the more rare weapons) have special upgrade features that actually change the way you not only play, but the way you *want* to play. I was a rifle user through and through. I obtained a lucky rare hand-cannon drop. It's upgrade paths included ones for aiming, damage, and range. In Destiny, the hand cannon is like a short-range insta-gib. After levelling up the gun and getting it's upgrades, it became much more. The weapon became me and I became the weapon.

If you enjoy Halo, Mass Effect, Borderlands or the like, you should really give the game a try. Stick it out, though and the rewards become more substantial. Additionally, Bungie's post release support plans for new content regularly patched in have me wondering what exotic locales in the Solar System we may yet see. Fantastic game, easily worth a buy to most.

The Great: Incredibly beautiful maps, a very compelling leveling and upgrading system. Some of the best graphics I've seen so far for the Xbox One(but I have to wonder if they were scaled down to allow for a last-gen release as well). Easy to join up with other players for strike (co-op) missions and a good variety of multiplayer. The lore is also pretty interesting, though you have to dig for it outside of the game(why Bungie?). All around very fun gameplay with solid FPS mechanics. About a dozen hours in and I'm still having a lot of fun although there is definitely a Grind aspect to this. Public events appearing out of nowhere are very exciting and fun to experience as strangers in the map come together to beat down an enemy.

The Okay: A bland soundtrack that sounds like they hired someone and told him to sound like Marty O'Donnell(The composer for the Halo series), and the composer just fell flat. Some of the music is nice, but over all not really worthy of the first chapter of the series. The first playthrough of the game was shockingly easy for a veteran FPS gamer like me, but they do give you the ability to up the difficulty. The enemy AI could have been more compelling, rather than just "walk around, peak out of cover for 2 seconds before shooting". Yeah its an over simplification but essentially the enemies don't use much in the way of tactics to provide a good challenge, rather they rely on becoming bullet sponges with hire difficulty, bosses especially. The addition of vehicles is nice(and it is fun to run around in your personally little speeder bike) but there is a sense they held back heavily on including much in the way of vehicles(which begs the question, as always, why are wars of the future fought with small arms, oh well its fun I guess). Same with the guns, of which there's a good amount but it could have stood for more variety.

The Really Bad: The wonderfully expansive lore is over shadowed by a terribly shallow story. Two dimensional NPCs that aren't given much of an opportunity to express themselves and become interesting characters. Peter Dinklage, who I love as an actor, gives such a stale performance I have to wonder if he was given ANY direction. Missions that are as uninspired as the story telling(or lack thereof), with objectively almost always being "guard this area while waves of enemies come in".

Conclusion: Definitely worth it, I truly hope Bungie and Activation make vast improvements to the next game in the series. It makes me sad to think how much money they spent on marketing and spreading the hype for this game when those resources could have gone to making a rock solid game. It's a very fun, well polished shooter without question, but there's a lot things that took me out of the moment so I will never call this game a masterpiece, and will approach future titles in this franchise with skepticism. People who give it a 0 or a 10 are not being honest, as it does some things really great, and some things really poorly.

Bottom Line: Quite fun, but don't expect it to live up to the hype. Not by a long shot.

It's a slick, mechanically sound, and lavishly produced shooter that uses beauty to try and mask the potentially great but uninspired gameplay inside. [Issue#117, p.62]

Destiny feels like the key elements of an FPS and an MMO gently resting shoulder to shoulder, instead of being fused together in a truly creative way. It plays and looks great, and offers many, many hours of entertainment to anyone okay with repeating the same tasks, but it isn’t exactly the game-changing science fiction epic we felt it was aspiring to.

An ambitious if repetitive combination of shooter and loot based ARPG. A boost in loot drop frequency could definitely boost the fun/score. [Issue#254, p.47]
