destiny's a great game, the campaign just feels way too linear for me to give this an 8
the pvp is really good with friends and it's just plain awesome. really fluid and smooth. so that's making me give it an 8

Man i remember this game so much, it was such a good game. The story, the gameplay, the crucible, the strikes, the missions, everything was perfect. It never became boring even after finishing the story, D2 is a good game still but it cant compare to this masterpiece

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Multiple reviews I read here are very crazy mixed/negative reviews. About the game, I loved playing the game. I hated the unbalanced PvP but I do not think any supers or gears should be removed. I hated the feeling I got while thinking someone else said the supers and some gears should be removed. I disagree with what many people say about this but I am just not going to type more words about their thoughts about the game and the features of the game. Too bad the Destiny 2 PvP is very unbalanced. I feel like everything else or almost everything else about the game is very good. The activities are repetitive but very fun. I started playing Destiny about five years ago and I still love playing the game. Expand

This game has changed the way games will be built going forward. This game, compared to it's 'predecessor' Halo has such a large scope and fills so much bigger and better than halo. I come from a halo-loyalist group and after going to back to Halo, it just feels so small and narrow.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game has incredibly been one of my favorite games. It is nice how it is based on different planets. The game is good for ages 11-15 (Recommended). What is great about this game is that it has a story mode that can be played with six people online. It takes 50 minutes to do one raid but it's worth it. What is kind of sad is that Xbox Live must be bought to enjoy multiplayer missions. Once you are done with all levels, it is very boring and some people may not have the dark below, the taken king, or the house of wolves so you just do levels again. The people without Xbox Live look at the levels and feel very jealous that everyone else has it and they don't. On level 34, I did patrols and I couldn't gain any experience, something was wrong. One suggestion is to make expansion levels unlocked so it doesn't get so boring. Xbox is ridiculously stupid for having to pay online. Expand

When Bungie unveiled its new space opera and announced Destiny, I was ecstatic. What shooter fan wouldn’t want a Halo meets Borderlands game? The music and level scripting from Halo and the shooting and looting of Borderlands, 2 great tastes that taste great together. Perfect! What shooter fan wouldn’t want a Halo meets Borderlands game? The music and level scripting from Halo and the shooting and looting of Borderlands, 2 great tastes that taste great together. Perfect! Since then the game has launched and the reaction, both personally and professionally, is lukewarm. The reviews have been less than expected from what Bungie’s pedigree would have predicted and the internet has been ablaze with hilarious Twitter parody accounts. But I digress. Despite the lack of story and the busted loot system, I have been enjoying my jaunt around the universe. Maybe a little too much…
I am a recovering WoW addict, always will be. Farming, raiding, grinding, you name it, I did it. So going on to my second full year of being Blizzard free has been a learning experience. Needless to say, I can spot a MMO when I see it. I really don’t care how Bungie tries to spin it, Destiny is a MMO.
If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck, it’s not a raccoon. We have the easy comparisons. Raids, colored items and weapons, rep farming for rewards, collectable mounts. All real easy to spot as a MMO trope and Bungie can’t deny it. But what is harder to spot and not as easy to identify as a characteristic of an MMO are the social features and implications.
Arguably the best thing to come from Destiny is the loot cave. An endless spawning black hole of green, blue and purple shinnies that have players huddled around a dirt mound shooting in a straight line. It was a fruitful process and netted me many new items and materials. And now it’s gone, hot fixed in a Thursday morning patch. But the social experience continues. Years down the road we can say “remember the loot cave?” While it does live on in a web based game, those that missed out will never know what it’s like to mindlessly shoot into a hole. Well, at least the way we did. A similar comparison is the war effort in WoW. Do you remember where you were when the Gates of Ahn’Qiraj were opened on your server? I don’t, because I wasn’t playing when that happened. That killed me as a WoW player, and continues to kill me as a Destiny player. I don’t want to miss out.
These kind of social experiences and events are what keep me going back to Destiny. I don’t want to miss anything that the world will be talking about tomorrow. So much so that I used the Destiny LFG to join a raid group full of people I don’t know. I was in the Vault of Glass, shouting out terms like “burn the adds” and “I can rez in 5”, all for what? To say I completed raid content when it was relevant? We all know it’s not for the gear that drops, or lack thereof.
Social gaming is a powerful tool. It keeps players interest and motivated, a blessing and a curse. But for me, it triggers too many old feelings of having to log just so that I don’t miss out on that all important pair of pants or new accessory for my digital doll.

If you buy the DLC you can get loads of brilliant, good looking armour and weapons. Making your guardian your own is one of the best things, you can make them whatever colour you want by getting different shaders etc.

Overall I think it is definitely worth buying, especially if you're into First Person Shooters and that kind of thing.

This game by yourself is not going to be nearly as fun compared to when you are doing anything with your friends or even random online players. The game has small flaws, mostly PvP balance and lack of end game content. Not to an extreme (End Game wise) but there could be more to offer post 20 like Sparrow races, gambling, etc. I mostly would just like to see side activities as the 2 just listed to do with friends that isn't combat scenario's. Mini games, parkour challenges, really anything. Just something more to the game other than Raids, PoE, Strikes and PvP.

I really do give this game a 10. Why? Not because it's perfect but this game has turned into one of the best Co-Op experiences I have ever had in the past several years. Probably the best since the 1st Borderlands. I have put so much time and had so much fun with my friends that I can't not give it a 10. The game itself may not be perfect but all the wonderful experiences I have had is rare with games now a days. No other game this year has made me and my friends do nothing but enjoy our time. Wether it was the first VoG run, bouncing the ball at the Tower or just being idiots in general. I have had an amazing time.

I simply love the game because it has been a super fun experience, with loads of hours and craziness. Many challenging moments, many epic PvP kills and tons of those "moments" you won't forget. That is what to me, defines an MMO. Something unforgettable with friends and random people online that turn into an awesome night of gaming.

I still play today and probably will for a long time. Thanks for reading.

    Cheers!

It takes a long time before this game starts feeling stale. Great graphics, mechanics and variety between characters, weapons etc. The raids (particularly VoG) make it really stand out. The things that could be improved are better matching system, less grind and dependency on randomness is rewards and a better story line.

Extremely shallow gameplay. The story missions are nice but you are only on each planet for a very short time period before you are shuffled off onto the next planet. Once you hit 20 then the game becomes a very BORING grindfest in a poorly made MMO design.

Once you're done the story, you are faced with crushing repetition, and only the collection of stuff to keep playing for. Again, no story to drive you to keep playing, just endless loot collecting (98% of which you simply throw away because it's inferior). The soundtrack is fairly weak and the visuals are good, but not blow your mind next gen great.
The multiplayer seems to be unable to consistently pair you with players of similar skill. Have one match even, next match you get creamed, creamed again, destroy everyone, destroy everyone, balanced, creamed, creamed, destroy. There seams to be no logic to how PvP stacks players and no logic to weapon balance either.
Then I see that I have logged over 300 hours and realize that something about this game keeps you there. Something about being a Guardian patrolling an unstable buffer zone between Earth and it's enemies keeps you coming back. The action and enemies are so well crafted that you just enjoy shooting the same thing over and over. You enjoy running around the same maps over and over, kicking ass. Even writing this it looks insane to think that I just kept playing. I believe I have finally broken free from this madness, but for my dollars to hours ratio on this one, I have to give it at least an 8.

A great, smooth shooter with endless storyless hours of gameplay. Addictive personalities beware, this game will own you.

Destiny ISN'T Halo 2.0 or like the majority of FPS games available. People that approach this with that kind of expectation are likely to be disappointed in certain aspects.

First off the campaign. This is certainly an area that is lacking in depth and quality of story we expect from the majority of FPS games and after Bungie gave us Halo we expected so much more. There is a distinct lack of story and the missions tend to be the same - either ending in a boss fight or waves of enemies. This really has a negative impact on the campaign part of the game but its not until you reach the end-game that the reason the mission structure and lack of cut-scenes are designed this way becomes apparent. They are like mini 'Strikes' and are used for 'Daily' missions for end game activity and extra rewards - this wouldn't be possible or at least work as well if the missions were more traditional. I feel as though Bungie sacrificed 'Story' to provide more end game content.

The campaign begins on Earth and as you progress through you unlock each new area until all 4 are opened up. On each area you can access the available activities whether that be individual campaign missions - something you have to do when playing through the campaign as it doesn't play through automatically, Strikes - 3 player co-op missions, Raid - 6 player co-op mission or Patrol - free roam mode. Each activity begins in a 'public' area that can be occupied by other players and you are free to go pretty much anywhere in the area - even on a mission or strike - so you can get involved in Public Events, go hunting for resources/loot or just go straight to the objective.

Strikes are the co-op part of the game and require a fireteam of 3 so if you don't have 2 others, the game will matchmake for you. These follow the same sort of pattern as the campaign mission with an end boss to beat. Raids are the pinnacle of this and by far the best content in the PvE area of the game. They are a 6 player co-op mode that requires communication and co-ordination. As such there is no matchmaking so require you to find people - either friends or people you meet playing Destiny (there are websites available too to find players) so you can find people that will compliment your fireteam and speak the same language.

Things like the Raid are part of the end-game content and for me the best part of Destiny.

Destiny also has a PvP mode with the usual team deathmatch mode but also a few other modes. Its not as varied as something like CoD but it's certainly fun. Other games have very separate areas - Campaign is very separate to co-op which is also separate from MP, but Destiny tries to tie all these together. Your 'Gaurdian' does everything and earns XP in all areas. Weapons and Armour acquired in PvP can be used in PvE and vice versa. In other FPS games, once you beat the campaign, there is little reason to return unless achievement hunting but in Destiny you can and probably will end up playing the missions a lot for bounties or Daily mission rewards.

In terms of the game mechanics, everything feels solid I can't fault it on this. It does everything you expect from a FPS and does it well. Some enemies are a bit of a bullet sponge - namely the bosses - but the array of weaponry and supers feel great to use. Visually this game is stunning too. Venus in particular looks incredible. There are similarities in enemy behaviour to those seen in Halo which isn't a bad thing as they used cover, jumped out of the way of grenades or swarmed at you.

There is so much to do daily - with bounties - both PvP and PvE, missions etc as well as weekly too. Lots of weapons and armour to collect and upgrade that it can keep you playing for many many hours. In terms of value (cost per hour) it could be one of the best buys you make and for that reason alone it earns extra marks. Like I said if you are expecting Halo 2.0 and a traditional Campaign and story then you will be disappointed but Destiny has tried to be 'different'. Its certainly much better with friends but there is still fun to be had Solo.

I played my first Nightfall Strike two nights ago and it was an amazing experience. It was so good I now have to rate Destiny is one of the top 2 or 3 games I have played. (Mass Effect are the others)

I typically don't write reviews or letters to editors but after seeing zeros... I felt compelled to praise the people who crafted it. Thank you, Bungie. (note, I am a bit ticked you are giving an extra strike to the PS4... but I get over it.)

To play Destiny is to step into a world of gaming which can quickly become an addiction. The shooting mechanics and gun play on offer are second to none. The visuals and artwork are unparalleled. To that effect, whether this game is for you or not, it comes down to individual taste. Any gamer worth their salt should try this game at least once, there is also no better reason than this to buy a current-gent console. Destiny is for me, so far, the defining (and only) decent gaming experience on the new platforms and demands you spend time working at progress. Finally it is worth noting the first few times running the Vault of Glass raid could be some of the best gaming you'll get done in years, and Destiny is equal amounts frustrating and wonderful. To my mind that's what any great game should be. Expand

I want to be blown away with new content. Everyone who says the main story is boring well that is fine, the biggest thing about the story is the story. The DLC is going to further explain the story line and keep you engaged. You might be wondering why I did't give this game a 10 if it is as good as I say. It's because Bungie can't explain the disappointing story line that is happening NOW prior to release date. My final rating would be an 8/10 (Above average). Expand

Probably one of the best shoot em up games on the x'bone. Graphics and audio are great. Multiplayer is good and works - more than you can say for drive club, master chief collection, etc! There is very little story to capture you imagination, but I find I keep going back to it for a blast and it's still as fun as day one.

Fun game ... just not for as long as I was hoping. I gave it an 8 because it is worth $60 and you will enjoy about 60 hours of gameplay if you try out all 3 classes ... 150+ hours if you are really into PVP matches.
Pros: Controls are smooth, maps are beautiful and well-designed, and weapon types are interesting.

Where Destiny falls short: Classes are not different enough, storyline is almost non-existent (read lore online), no waypoints, repetitive missions, loot drops are not exciting, and enemy AI is not very bright. As a Halo player since H:CE, I may have expected too much from Bungie's Destiny.

Buy and play it tons if you are into Halo-like PVP matches. If into solo play, buy it on DVD, play it hard for 2 weeks, then trade it in when you want a new thrill. If you want a compelling story like the Halos, don't bother at all.

Destiny has pretty much been the only thing I've been playing since it's release 2 months ago. It's a shooter that has some RPG and MMO elements. I've broken my review into lists of things I love and hated.

    Loved:

The Raid. - This 6 person, teamwork-oriented mission is one of the most single exhilarating and rewarding things I have participated in on any console. It was difficult and required a great deal of communication between teammates. I've done it many times since and even though it doesn't change it's still a lot of fun.

Story - The story is actually quite interesting... but the delivery is... located in the next section.

Gameplay - It plays like a typical FPS. The enemies can be tough, the higher tiered weapons are interesting, the character skill trees are diverse and fun to customize.

    Hated:

Story Delivery - The story is very poorly delivered and explained. As you complete lesser objectives you unlock "Grimoire" cards which provide a backstory to the universe, however in order to read them you need to go to the Bungie website or download the App.

Grinding - When upgrading your gear to higher levels missions you find yourself needing more materials. It will require you to travel around a planet looking for them. It's not fun, it's a chore. Luckily the Xbox One snap feature allows you to watch Amazon (Netflix?) while you do it. Also being with a group of friends makes it faster and less like a chore but more like hanging out.

All in all I enjoy the game a great deal. It has some issues but nothing is game breaking or infuriating. If I didn't mention it, it's because it never really effects my experienece. I wish more people would give this game, or any game, legit reviews instead of either 0's or 10's. This is certainly neither of the two.

The PvP can feel a little unbalanced and lacks the depth I'd hope to see from any type of MMO game.

Limits on weekly points earned, kind of like a pay-to-win mobile game. This can seriously limit leveling.

Glitches in fireteam voice chat and loading. Server drops often. No matchmaking for high level strikes and raids.

All that being said, I've put hours and hours into this game and I find it greatly enjoyable. Worth a buy, but let Bungie know you expect more out of them in the future as far as story and content.

Destiny certainly has its flaws, but those same flaws are ultimately just a part of the experience. The story is lacking (which sucks for those who like story-driven games) and the grinding can get very frustrating, but otherwise this is a game I would highly recommend, especially for people who are just looking to have fun with their friends, gunning across the ruined worlds of the Solar System.

This game should have no flaws due to the fact that, it was made by Bungie and published by Activision. These industries have been rivals for years with Halo made by Bungie and Call of Duty made by Activision. Destiny is supposed to take the best of both Call of Duty and Halo and combine them to make a superior game, after all, two heads are better than one. As promised, the two companies delivered the game of the year. Because of its better graphic mechanics, the combination of Activision and Bungie, and the addictiveness of the campaign and multiplayer game play, Destiny is easily described as the best of the century.
Graphics have come a long way from Atari to Pacman to Fifa. Good graphics are a necessity now for a player to even consider a game. The motion picture provided by Destiny is absolutely stunning. The graphics provided are very smooth and flow together perfectly. Fighting aliens in mesmerizing quality is one of the best features this game has to offer. The display is jaw dropping from the moment you hit the start button. The game is so realistic that players can see the wind catch their cloak as they walk. Never has a game brought so much attention to detail like Destiny; for example, there is a mission where you have to fight aliens on the moon, and you are walking through craters as moon dust flies in your face. In the mission, you are avoiding aliens around every corner. Another example is watching bullets fly by your head as you are fighting a giant metal flying sphere. Destiny has brought what we expected to the table in 2014.
Outstanding graphics are not the only reason this game is great, but another factor is how these industries learned how to cooperate. In doing so, they created a much larger fan base for this game. Who would have thought that the two biggest rivals in video game history could combine to make such a brilliant game? They finally realized instead of having a huge rivalry they could conjoin the greatest aspects of Halo and Call of Duty. Activision, the creators of Call of Duty, brought in the fast-paced, action-packed multiplayer mode. They also brought in the variety of guns and equipment usage that would aid the player. Bungie, the creator of Halo, added their addictive story mode to the mix. Furthermore, they also added the Science Fiction to the game, which enabled them to recreate some of the weapons from Halo. With the new found friendship between these two companies, they added a new game engine and the most innovative experiences ever delivered. As said by IGN, “Destiny features the largest collection of weapons in a Bungie game to date, coming in both a variety of categories and featuring unique customization options for each one.” This means they incorporated a broader arsenal base, which allows players to either remain stealthy or shoot everything in sight. Instead of clashing heads for another year, Bungie and Activision finally shared the same dream which benefits them both and the fans.
Finally, the set up and the storyline of the game will leave you begging for more. With constant achievements, rewards, and unlockable content, this game keeps players guessing and demanding more. Also, the mechanics of multiplayer are crisp and engaging. Destiny’s multiplayer has a broad range of complex game modes that will have you six inches from your television. With the occasional downloadable content, the game will hardly be turned off, nor will the controller ever leave your thumb when playing multiplayer. As said by Game Informer, “Solo play is an ideal choice for players looking for a challenge.” This means the story mode of Destiny is really challenging and will leave players repeating the same missions multiple times, proving just how addicting it really is. Furthermore, the use of different weapons allows for a more strategic approach and will keep the player guessing during the campaign, which is always good because no one likes a predictable video game.
All in all, the game of Destiny will leave gamers in shock and awe. Destiny has the quality to be a great first-person shooter. Not only are the graphics one of a kind, but the collaboration of Activision and Bungie and the campaign and multiplayer leave players craving more. Those are only a few of the reasons why Destiny will earn its respect and reputation. Destiny meets and exceeds all expectations of a game worth buying.

Thanks to bounties and hunting for exotic equipment, the game will keep you entertained through both game modes and it will definitely have you interested in a long time as exotic equipments are very rare and hard to obtain.
The game mechanics and combat of the game gets a 7/10
The level cap which is set at level 20 and requires light equipment after and along with limited weapons and lack of a third subclass can definitely improve the game.
    I would rate the game's graphics a 8.5/10
The only flaw being lack of character customization which somewhat ties into graphics. The graphics of Destiny are beautiful starting from the loading screen and going to boss fights and multiplayer, it is beautiful all the way through.
I would give the story and audio of the game a 6.5/10
Mostly because of the lack of story and the awkward character voices and guns. The background music along with most sounds for the game are fit and quite enjoyable.

In terms of presentation, gameplay, and most importantly, potential, this game deserves an 11 out 10. It's one of the most addictive shooters I've ever played. It manages to combine the loot driven PvE content of Borderlands and the insanely polished and fast paced PvP shooting in Halo.

I'll concede that the story is mediocre at best and some of the minor quests are pretty repetitive (although that's the nature of MMOs), but aside from that, this game is a really fun MMOFPS. It's an absolute blast to play with friends in the Crucible (the PvP arena) as well as in the Strikes and Raids (group PvE content).

Are there things they could have done slightly better? Yes, but overall, it's getting way too much hate from other users and critics. Diablo 3 was a joke when it launched, and it's now been completely revamped into a much more streamlined and enjoyable experience. Destiny has even more potential than Diablo, and there's a pretty huge amount of room for new content and improvement upon existing content.

So why does this game get a 5 from me? Because there's nothing else. The missions (whether additional or story) are all pretty much identical. The amazement of discovering a new world each time a planet is unlocked is soon dampened by the realisation that whilst the enemies look different, the mission parameters are identical. This repetition alongside very limited customisations to weapons and vehicles and a lack of class specific characterisations left me very disappointed. Despite the unfathomable depth of the scenery in this game, the only word I can use to describe it is shallow.
Maybe DLC and patches will fix this game for future players and those willing to pay for it time and time again, but for me it feels like an amazing game that got aborted somewhere along the way, packaged and fired out in to the stores.
I'd love to say the game is redeemed by its multiplayer, but that's simply not the case. The matchmaking isn't good enough for the amount of time it takes and the maps/weapons/vehicles are no better than Halo 2, a game released a decade ago.
Really disappointing. Worth a few hours of your time but I fear the longevity of this game won't extend past that.

Bungie has laid out a fantastic foundation for the franchise to grow up from. Destiny is a shooter, first and foremost, and this shines through its polished gunplay. The breadth of weapons allows for several different approaches to handling enemies, and the availability of semi-customizable upgrades makes you think about which weapons you'll want to take into different battles. Destiny also has many beautifully crafted environments available to explore, and the three distinct enemy factions inhabiting different areas adds to the variety. Despite this, the amount of playable content available in these environments is quite slim, and players are required to complete highly repetitive tasks to progress, whether that be in regards to reputation grinding for a faction, or obtaining higher leveled gear which allows one to tackle higher level missions. This is highlighted due to a general lack of deep, compelling storytelling that Bungie is known for. A major downside to solo players becomes apparent in Destiny's endgame. There is no matchmaking available for weekly Heroic Strikes, weekly Nightfall Strikes, or the Vault of Glass raid. This limits solo players who have no one to group with, and forces many of them to actively seek out groups to complete these events, as they are essentially the only way to acquire the games best gear. Destiny's PvP can also tend to be rather unbalanced. For example, a team composed of multiple Hunter Bladedancers, which when their super is active can take massive amounts of damage while gliding across the battlefield slicing opponents to ribbons, versus a team of mostly Striker Titans, whose super is a single burst over a short range, usually does not end well for the Titans. Despite all of its flaws, Destiny's gameplay is very fun and engaging, and the game has a ton of potential. If Bungie tweaks the availability of some of the current endgame material, and expands on the lore and storytelling in Destiny's upcoming downloadable content, the game may actually become what it was hyped to be from the beginning. The only negative is some of the detailed stuff is hard to figure out and isn't' super intuitive. There is a lot of mystery and "figuring it out" to get all the value of each feature. If you're impatient, it works against you.

However the elegant blend of co-op, single player, and competitive game play hasn't been accomplished yet. I have a feeling the younger crowd just wants to level up and be uber and kill n00bs.. every other game is for them.

The visuals for next gen are gorgeous with the beautiful skies and textures, as well as a consistent frame-rate and attention to detail. The PvP crucible mode is very fun and offers a unique experience because of the different classes being used with the different abilities. Great game, lots of variety. PvP, PvE, classes, subclasses, weapons, etc. There are many reviews out there that are just not reasonable. IGN gave this game a 7.8. I don't agree with that score, but it is well argued and reasonable. An average user score here of 5.8 is not reasonable.

Graphics and Sound: The graphics look great and the soundtracks are not only truly interesting to listen to but also memorable as well. A true testament to the work of so many talented artists together as far as tracks go.

Playability and Entertainment: The controls handle excellently and makeup for some less than savory moments during the game. The story is pretty basic but nonetheless an entertaining adventure, and the same can be said about the game as a whole. It merges most of the right elements between MMO and shooter and RPG genres.

I am really struggling to understand some of the negative reviews for Destiny. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but giving Destiny a zero is not credible in my view. It leads me to suspect that the writers of such reviews are either working for the competition or their just being objectionable.

I've read lots of reviews; official critics and users who have said that Destiny is trying to be all things and mastering none. This could be true, but it depends what you want. The question in my view is "do you enjoy playing it?". If you do, does it matter what it's trying to be?

Ok so there are games that have deeper RPG elements - if you want the depth, play Diablo. From what I've seen so far there are lots of weapons & ability upgrades, with gradual enough increments to make it fun; without needing an encyclopedia.

No story? I'm not a fan of cut scenes, so the minimal story is fine with me - I enjoy running around the beautiful landscapes and shooting things; in this respect Destiny ticks the boxes. The shooting element, which is actual the point of the game is fantastic.

I'm a massive fan of Battlefield and in my view it is hard to beat for multiplayer - but battlefield's 32 v 32 matches are chaos 99% of the time and unfortunately in my experience the cooperative / team element of battlefield is not fully exploited by players. Very few player use the mic and the vast majority play the game as loners. Even so great game. Destiny is a different thing and not trying to compete.

The co-op missions in Destiny are the highlight - you really feel like you're working as a team even with no verbal communication; it's very natural and feels better than Battlefield in my view.

We can get picky about the details if we want; talking about weapons balance etc....boring...There plenty of weapons from high rate of fire kill everyone in the room types to precision weapons, to all kinds of specials....so pick the weapons you enjoy playing with and have fun and don't complain about this weapon being over power or that one taking too long to reload.

The only area that is negative in my view is the AI; for the most part the enemies appear in exactly the same places and aren't particular clever. Yes they hide behind cover when your are hitting them from range, but they don't stay there and pop out now and again so you can shoot them in the head; when realistically you'd just stay behind the cover and wait for the enemy to come to you; or try some suppression and diversion to get some bodies in amongst the sniper. Where fights get tough it's because either there are a lot of enemies or/and they have a lot of hit points & fire power; not because they are smart. This is a pity, but Destiny manages to pitch the challenge nicely against your level, so your are in the most part on the edge of your players ability.

Overall great game that will keep you coming back for hours on end.

The challenges Bungie throws you into make you think, "Holy crap! How am I going to take on THAT?" and leave you with a sense of pride when you take down some of the more outrageous creatures inhabiting the various vistas. Playing with friends makes the experience incredibly fun, and when we take out that last boss of a difficult strike, our bro-cheers are joyously deafening. The rewards always leave you satisfied with your efforts, but Bungie always conveys that subtle message of, "Okay, you've done that, great job, but can you beat THIS?" I can feel the tension building while gearing up to take on the insane Vault of Glass raid, an extreme teamwork-oriented mission which only the most experienced players can master, and I can't wait to try for that sweet gear at the end of that long, dark, monster-filled tunnel. Even with how much fun there is to have with the current game, there's much more to come. Bungie is activating new events daily, and adding new content monthly, so there's always more to do, even if you're not ready to take on some of the more ludicrous challenges the game offers. Competitive multiplayer is fun, even though stress-enducing competition against better players isn't my favorite experience, and it's cool to see how your new gear fares against other Guardians. Sometimes, however, there's just too much badass stuffed into it. Many, many abilities, as well as secondaries, are one shot kills, and though each class is as overpowered as the last, it can lead to some frustratingly unavoidable deaths. The story is a bit vague on details about the universe, but I'm looking forward to discovering more about the mysterious Traveler and everything that has happened because of it. I know I'll be cheering with my buddies a lot with this IP over the next 10 years. This may not be the expansive universe many seemed to be expecting, which is in part why this rating is not a 9 or 10, but that won't be the case for long. The game's current state could be equated to a stage of infancy, but content will grow with the developers, who alway keep their ears to the ground for fan feedback. If you sold your game already, I pity you. This joyride is far from over, and if you're looking for fun, you've found it. Expand

Real Issues: This game was hyped extensively, making everyone look at this game instead of those who'd find it interesting, the similar objectives across the various missions are just that, the rare Reach style flying across the map to death bug that has definitely been reduced, Peter Dinklage does have a few painful lines "TRIP MINES... Don't touch them!", and the connectivity issues that plague certain individuals for reason unknown to me

Now for the plus side; Fun and rewarding gameplay to those who are familiar with having to earn the gear necessary to reach the depths of this game as with other RNG loot based games (This is the only FPS I feel keep-able since some event a few years ago where I completely bummed out of the genre, especially a note-worthy title considering it's only on console.), the story is lackluster, but the end effect builds and interesting foundation. Especially with the Grimoire. Then there's the Vault of Glass, here all that you've read about repetitive gameplay is OUT THE WINDOW. Stealth, co-ordination, a brutal assault that is extensive, rewarding, and very well crafted. Character progression is well paced, and remains tangible past level 20. Especially when you start acquiring legendary/Exotic gear.

Overall, if you can enjoy a grind from a game that encourages a hearty challenge for the lucrative reward I'd say this game certainly has it's merits. Definitely not for everyone as advertised, but I'll be damned if this game isn't fun!

I'm giving it a 9, because there is no splitscreen and there is absolutely no reason to not have this option (especially with Bungie's past popular shooter). Also, sometimes the servers are wacky (but that is to be expected from any new game). Aside from that, the game is adventurous and exciting, very challenging. The gameplay changes completely depending on your arsenal or class. The game has a nice balance between PVP and PVE options. The fact that this game is from Bungie and people were led to believe that this game was the Halo of the 8th generation did not allow any room for failure or constructive interpretation. My suggestion is buy the game as if you have never heard of it before and know nothing of its pre release hype and expectations and play the game with a clean slate and neutral mind. You'll be surprised how engaging and entertaining this game can be with the right mindset.

I'd just like to point out that all these reviewers and negative commenters on the games repetitiveness and general lack luster are simply idiotic. This game will have you clocking in hours, and I'm sure that even the people negatively reviewing it are putting more time into the game then they would care to admit. People need to realize that games are meant to be for FUN. What it lacks, or has too much of, does not matter. It is the most excellent shooter I've played to date. The graphics, mechanics, weapons and abilities all contribute for a well rounded and enjoyable experience. The open world concept with other gamers continuously around is a great way to make it more fun too, being able to interact with other players. Bungie did a GREAT job at this game, and anyone who says otherwise is likely a "glass half empty" sort of person. Destiny is great, fun, beautiful, smooth, and all around possibly my favourite FPS of all time. Thank you Bungie, and goodbye internet blogging keyboard warriors who have nothing better to do than negatively remark about great games. Expand

Personally, I really, really enjoy it. I've been looking forward to destiny coming out ever since bungie announced it. I think people are focusing too much on what genre of game Destiny fits into. Stop thinking about it, and just play!

I recommend Destiny to anyone who enjoyed Halo.

The game gets a bad rep for having no endgame material. I constantly find myself angry about all of the shortcomings of this game, but the fact still remains that this game is insanely addicting. You need to look deeply at that fact for the reason this game is a 10. It's because of some of the problems that make you want to play.

Most people want to approach it like any other game by completely dominating it in the shortest time possible before moving on. This is impossible due to the rarity of items and is not how this game should be played. Its meant to take months to get to level 30.

Spread the fun out. No farming! Spend a couple hours every day completing your daily's and get your weekly's done when you have extra time. Don't rush into the higher level stuff and just know that you'll get there eventually. This game has true potential and you'll be hitting yourself in the future if you only approached this game with the goal to reach level 30.

The most important thing is for people to stop bombing the reviews so terribly. This game has many flaws, but that also means that it still has a lot of potential and I want to see that potential be seized in Destiny 2. Don't take that away from everyone by ruining the chances for a sequel.

This game is the **** But don't expect this to be the game that ends all games. That's stupid. Instead, enjoy it for what it is: a perfectly crafted multiplayer first person shooter

Destiny isn't a bad game, it's just not the promised game. The story and the story telling is worse, but the co-op fun in Strikes is at the moment the best you can find on a next-gen console. I played the game for over 30 hours, and still have fun. The PvP was at the beginning terrible for me, but after some time I managed it to get on the top.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Simply put right now, Destiny is somewhat of a Masterpiece in this modern age of games in terms of what it is and what it evolves into. For those who are into the mainstream "Call of Duty" shooter, this game is not meant for your kind. With a unique take on the MMO side of things. Destiny does what old shooter use to be about; Team work and Skill. You learn your class, you get your gear and play in a style that can be uniquely your own. When it comes to Strikes, Raids, and Crucible however, you HAVE to work as a team. There is no "Lone Wolfing" your way through Crucible matches and not playing objectively; that sort of "CoD" behavior as you will, gets you killed and gets you no where. The enemies are compelling and provide challenge when out in the field; actual intelligent enemies that will try to flank you. This isn't "lob a thousand grenades" this is "move around your cover, get in your face, and beat you down" sort of intelligent, which I find quite nice to have an actual challenge, and overcoming that is even better.

For Story, it is short and sweet; Darkness is bad, you are a Guardian who can wield the Light as a weapon, go beat it up. For those who say the story was lacking? Have you played the the first Halo game? "These aliens are bad and are trying to kill us all. Kill them first and save the universe"! Bam, Blockbuster game. The story isn't about what had already happened, it is what is happening NOW. As a Guardian, you are part of the every going struggle to fight for what is left of the world and the solar system. This isn't about what happened, but whats going to happen and YOU are the author of that story. If you want back story, read your Grimiores for something more in depth. Yes, that's reading, but it isn't required so stop whining about story already.

For those saying it is like Borderlands? Clearly someone hasn't played enough FPS, MMO's and RPG's to understand the claim they just made. Borderlands is purely meant to be a shooter that's hysterical, doesn't take itself seriously, and gives out weapons like candy at Halloween. Destiny does have a similar weapon system, but "similar" is not the same as "ripoff Borderlands". Playing the games together might make people understand that better.

For those who say it's just like Halo? No, Halo is Halo, Destiny is its own unique kind. The enemies have a unique take to them and have their own unique flavor but you can see where the inspirations come from when you look at them. The Fallen are your Covenant ((Halo series)), the Hive are your Locust ((Gears of War)), your Vex are your Reapers ((Mass Effect)) and the Cabal are no less then your Space Marines ((Space Marines)). The story is not revolved around THE hero, but A hero. You are not Master Chief, you are not Commander Sheperd and you are not Marcus Fenix. You are a soldier of Light, working with many just like you toward the same goal.

Lastly, the grind. Yes, it IS a game where you grind levels to max level. Yes, it IS a game you farm for better gear and weapons in order to get to further content. BUT!! This is an MMO RPG FPS, so OF COURSE there will be grinding involved. If none of you every played a game like WoW, I can see your frustration, but **** about it isn't going to change it. This is a first of its kind ((at least in terms of scale and uniqueness, I don't know about any other MMO RPG FPS)) so complaining about it "not being Call of Duty" shows what kind of poor gamer you are.

Bland shooter? Repetitive game play? Clearly those who say this don't know what they want, or have played enough bad shooters that their opinions are completely one sided. For "professional" reviewers to be upset about lack of content tells me they never did much when they played, as there is plenty to do once you reach max level. Strikes are fun and action packed, Crucible is what I expected a Bungie shooter to be which is well balanced playing fields for PvP. Getting Legendary and Exotic items is always exciting and that feeling of accomplishment you get is oh so nice. This is the kind of game that true gamers have come to appreciate as it goes back to what shooters were once about; team work, skill, but overall fun and compelling to play. In an industry filled with mediocre shooters, many gamers have no sense of value for a game quite like this, and many of those shooters lack challenge and finesse.

The game has some faults, like lack of communication with other players, and just a couple glitches, but overall the game is great. It provides a good challenged it feels good overcoming them, you relate more to your character because he isn't THE hero, but a hero among the many. And lastly, the game evolves as you play; it changes as you level up and gain new abilities and becomes entirely different when you reach max level. Don't believe me? Play it yourself and find out on your own.

I'm going to keep it short. Any negative review (5 or lower) that says they only played for a few hours you can throw out. Now throw out any review claiming that they didn't get to level 20. The harder missions begin to unlock, the raids open up, more advanced gear boosting various unique abilities open up and start dropping, strikes open up. Sure is the story not really well explained through the campaign? yea, you gotta go online to read it which bugs me. A game should establish the back story in game, not on a separate website. And obviously you're not going to be showered with loot like borderlands so if you don't like a little bit of grinding you may not enjoy this. But the game is solid, the multiplier is fun, and it really begins to open up past level 20 and becomes a unique FPS in a league of its own. Also any review of 0 is just plain wrong, as no game deserves a 0 unless it is completely broken on all fronts. Expand

There is so much negative talk about this game. For what? Not a single critic gave a Negative review. I am always opened to everyone's opinion, but anyone who gave this game below a 5 has to at least pick up a controller again and give it one more chance.

This game provided me with tons of fun, It gave me the feel of when I first played Halo and added the mmo aspect. Even with most of my game time was playing by myself, I really enjoyed the game play. With the open events to the Strike Missions that provided plenty of loot and xp, and now the 6 player raids that just came out, I am excited to see what is to come to the great journey of Destiny
I do have some cons for this game. I play most of my games on pc, but I went out and bought an Xbox one for this game. I do wish there was some type of chat to make it easier to group up. I do know there are websites out there to help with the community and grouping that you can join, and I will certainly be looking into that. But over all I really enjoyed this game and still do.

Fantastic game. Some mildly repetitive stuff once you hit max level but that's the nature of MMOs, not sure why people are complaining. Once you get to L26-28 difficulty stuff the challenge far outweighs the fact you're repeating something. It's like redoing Halo on Legendary with friends, I love it.

The first raid, Vault of Glass, is awesome absolutely loved it.

Stayed away from most of the hype and was not going to get it because it didn't look like a game I would like. I got it anyway and its one of the best games I have played in a long time.

It's a slick, mechanically sound, and lavishly produced shooter that uses beauty to try and mask the potentially great but uninspired gameplay inside. [Issue#117, p.62]

Destiny feels like the key elements of an FPS and an MMO gently resting shoulder to shoulder, instead of being fused together in a truly creative way. It plays and looks great, and offers many, many hours of entertainment to anyone okay with repeating the same tasks, but it isn’t exactly the game-changing science fiction epic we felt it was aspiring to.

An ambitious if repetitive combination of shooter and loot based ARPG. A boost in loot drop frequency could definitely boost the fun/score. [Issue#254, p.47]
