It's a fun game for the first third or so of its playtime, but then it gets extremely stale really fast.

Absolutely fantastic overhaul of the destiny system and game. Love the changes to the story and the PVP changes! The new raid breathed a breath of fresh air into this game. :D

While the taken king still can't offer a good campaign as promised, the taken king still improves over somethings like the new mission design and levels, cool new add-ons to the gameplay, and the fact that they actually try to have a story here is a plus for this expansion.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This was an interesting set of DLC, investigating and fighting against the Taken in an eventually successful attempt to take down Oryx.

I was a fan of the invisible platform mechanics seen in this DLC, as well as enemy variance and general story. However, the final boss, Oryx himself, was a laughable joke and incredibly unchallenging in that I was under-levelled for the fight, yet still managed to defeat Oryx without taking any red health damage. It was possibly one of the most predictable boss fight patterns Destiny has ever given us, and it kind of left a sour taste in my mouth.

Sorry, Bungie. Your great DLC was tarnished by an incredibly underwhelming final challenge that left me delaying my purchase of Rise of Iron until the hour before launch.

I used to love Destiny as it was fun and exciting even challenging. Now with the ignorant expansion and all the changes 1. Year 1 gear/guns = worthless. 2. raid guns worthless. 3. Same old crap different flavor. 4. Take away one of the best additions (SRL). 4. Reward system is total crap.

Now let's move onto the PvP portion. I have never seen a worse game to play pvp since gaming was invented. p2p connectivity is totally **** up. Players lagging into walls, not taking damage, can't kill them, snipers that NEVER miss even though they are getting plastered with bullets, characters blinking only to shoot you with sheer perfection while in mid air.... Trials is possibly the worst of the worst. Since this is a peer to peer connection it is inevitable that during the required 7 games (with boons) you must win for lighthouse you are going to run into the lagging, cannot kill, bullets seem to be made out of cotton, of course they are incredible 2 shot you with any gun any where on the map. Sniping you headshot EVERY time even though you hit them first.... Before you think I am full of **** I have been flawless several times (how I have no idea). I have been 7-0 or 8-0 at least 100 times then run into the above type teams usually from mexico or uk that no matter what seem to be wearing bullet proof vest and carrying 2 shot kill weapons each match. Try as you may there is no killing them. Doctrine of Passing (which of course they nerfed to not piss off mida and last word users) usually takes about half a clip to kill someone if you are decent but when facing above team 2 doctrine's empty clips into the same player and you MIGHT get his initial health bar off but kill him hell NO....
Then there is regular crucible or Iron Banner which is basically the same thing as trials with all the damn lag oh but wait there are now 6 guys you cannot kill but 2 shot you. Wait for it.... Get on the right side of the connection now you have become the beast you thought you were killing everyone and wrecking it. Don't get excited you are just on the lag team and next match your mida, pdx45, sniper, DoP well they just caught a case of cotton rounds.
Play pvp long enough and you will be just like me unless of course you are one of the lucky ones that always seem to be on that side of the connection or fortunate enough to not get stuck in a foreign lobby. **** bungie sitting in their test lab saying its all good. Oh the damage referee is dead but more likely they lied to us again it never existed. If so then why did I just shoot this warlock 4 times with an invective, melee him 5 times and stick a grenade to him while he is walking into a wall or even better magically appear behind you and 1 or 2 shot you... I will NEVER play pvp again, they have progressively made it worse and worse and worse and worse...

Sure there are times in this game where you feel it's repetitive but please tell me a game that doesn't feature doing the same things over and over again. As a loot driven FPS, the grind of getting better gear is no different then The Division or Borderlands. Thing is the gear that you can get from the endgame activities is well worth it not just in terms of making your character better but being unique. Go play The Division right now and tell me what everybody is using in DZ, Incursion, and Challenging modes? All the same stuff. Destiny is unique in the fact that the best gear for one person isn't necessarily the best gear for another. Sure there is a level attached to said gear but just because it has a higher light then your favorite gun doesn't mean your favorite gun is no longer worth using. Destiny has perfected the balance it takes to make sure all gear is relevant not just Exotics. Many people don't like to figure out how to be successful in PvP and wish there was a single build to help make them better but you can't do that in Destiny. There are guns that will improve your chances but in the end you have to actually have skill to beat other players not just the best gear. In closing, Destiny is currently the gold standard of loot based shooters/RPGs because it balances everything and gives the player the ultimate freedom to make their character and play style as unique as themselves. There aren't enough strikes to do,there's literally 4-6 in total and they're level based. So really you only have 2 realistically available at one time and they're repetitive,a trend throughout the game.
Raids are extremely long and I only ever managed once to assemble a team,in my opinion they need a matchmaker for raids.
PVP is where I had the most fun,its actually fairly balanced and works.
The RNG in this game is terrible, from the ingrams to the loot you get after strikes is dependent on a number generator,Why?Reasons.

Overall this game just leaves a lot to be desired, which will probably be filled with stripped DLC that activision demanded.

The gear design was always very good, but now there is a rich variety of very high quality weapon and armor design, which makes the loot hunt much more exiting. It is geat that you can now collect items and store them in an "album". The events are pretty engaging and the new campaign is decent. While I did not like the lack of story and lore explanations at the beginning, I have started to like the mysterious feeling of the game and its world. Fun PVP, Some fun missions, Extremely Challenging with no friends (you REALLY need 2 people playing with you to really get the most out of the game.. and yeah good luck with gathering your friends to get to level 40 first with you, coordinating strikes and working out your schedules. Unless you're on a holiday or unemployed? Don't bother)
Loot system was designed by a depressed monkey. Made worse by the Cryptarch which in reality doesnt make looting "Exciting" it just ups the chance of you not getting the things you want.
For a Hybrid MMO this game has zero features such as Chat, a Good Group Finder (like in wow) and its a shame with enough money to boost the economy of a small african nation that Bungie Cocked up so bad and missed out so many features that a Half-bake probably wouldnt.

Still it doesnt take away from the fact that the game is addictive as hell and can have its fun moments.
Play it and draw your own conclusions. This game can be compared to a romance with a Girl who's neither here nor there emotionally for you, and you seem more invested into it that her.

Players who haven't purchased the Taken King DLC can't lol up from 34, and therefor missing out on the new subclasses introduced in the trailers, as you unlock them when you reach level 35. Trials of Osiris, raids, weekly night falls, DLC bounties and the crucible are all the activities actually worthwhile doing compared to farming strikes over and over, hoping to receive a legendary, or even an exotic. The flaws of the game are that it gives you all the basic content on the spot and asks you for more pocket money in exchange for more content. Having activision as a sales representative wasn't a good idea after all. All that's left in between are the patrols, campaign and farming for either Xur or the factions. The graphics stayed the same in style, with beautiful architecture and originality. The plot line feels like an unfinished book, with DLC being used as the replacement pages. The main story typically consists of either boss battles or horde mode missions. Emotes are friggin useless and literally just take 5$ extra out of your bank account to buy the remaining silver required to buy a legendary emote. Stuff from Xur is mostly for DLC players, as the weapons are for lvl 40's. Overall, a game that never reached it's full potential and instead had to now scramble for farming, grinding, random events, horde mode, repetitive activities and when it is not doing that, gives you **** like raids that require at least two friends since you have no matchmaking, night falls, which are normal strikes on steroids and farming crucible for lord shaxx so that he can give you that fatebringer that you always wanted. Thoroughly disappointed for this being a Bungie game. Expand
