Most people who are critical of the Year One Destiny will tell you that there is no story (Bungie doesn't present it well because it's mostly hidden in the grimoire cards) or that there is no end game (which is objectively false). Where Destiny fell short in the "campaign" in year one, they vastly made up for in how awesome the end game was. Raids and Prison of Elders are a blast to play in a group. That all being said, TTK improves itself across the board. Worried about a lack of story? The amount of personality and story content provided in the first two missions of TTK alone is more than the entire vanilla Destiny. Want more random stuff to do? Public events have been vastly improved in both fun and difficulty. Bounties have been redesigned for multiple quick pickups rather than a few lengthy grinds. There's a brand new Court of Oryx event that's also a blast to play. Want more end game? PS exclusive strikes have been brought over from year one and the new strikes are twice as cool as the vanilla Destiny strikes. And then we have a new raid as well.

Oh, and Destiny has the best gaming community I've ever experienced.

I big improvement over what we have seen the last year from Destiny. In fact Destiny TKK, plus the original release content, is the game Destiny should have originally been. The story is still lacking, but improved with better characters. The new raid is by far the best yet, as its focus is on mechanics and less on overpowering enemies.

I'm reviewing this game now because of all the hate it receives unrightfully. Plenty of people are willing to give a 0/10 for this game without having even played or beaten the majority of its content. Plenty of people are willing to give a 0/10 for this game without having even played or beaten the majority of its content. Sure there are times in this game where you feel it's repetitive but please tell me a game that doesn't feature doing the same things over and over again. As a loot driven FPS, the grind of getting better gear is no different then The Division or Borderlands. Thing is the gear that you can get from the endgame activities is well worth it not just in terms of making your character better but being unique. Go play The Division right now and tell me what everybody is using in DZ, Incursion, and Challenging modes? All the same stuff. Destiny is unique in the fact that the best gear for one person isn't necessarily the best gear for another. Sure there is a level attached to said gear but just because it has a higher light then your favorite gun doesn't mean your favorite gun is no longer worth using. Destiny has perfected the balance it takes to make sure all gear is relevant not just Exotics. Many people don't like to figure out how to be successful in PvP and wish there was a single build to help make them better but you can't do that in Destiny. There are guns that will improve your chances but in the end you have to actually have skill to beat other players not just the best gear. In closing, Destiny is currently the gold standard of loot based shooters/RPGs because it balances everything and gives the player the ultimate freedom to make their character and play style as unique as themselves. I've been playing Destiny since its launch in 2014, and will be the first to admit that although I played a ton of it in the first year, there were a ton of issues with the vanilla game and the first two expansions. Incoherent/weak story, a convoluted/frustrating loot and leveling system, etc. The Taken King has been a breath of fresh air for this longtime Destiny player because it addresses most of the original game's issues. The story in TTK is much easier to follow and includes better cutscenes and voice work (disclaimer: I'm a fan of Nathan Fillion and his character has a prominent role in TTK). The loot system is also more interesting and reliable (although once you get to the end game, running the hard mode raid, you'll still find plenty of reasons to complain about Bungie's random number generator and loot system). PvP is still fun, if not completely balanced (we'll see how the December update changes that), and there are a lot of good maps to play on (although I wish Bungie would put some of the older maps into rotation more often...it seems like if it isn't a TTK map, it rarely shows up in the rotation). All in all, I think you'll really enjoy Destiny TTK if you enjoy good first-person shooter mechanics and loot-based games. And your experience will be even better if you have a regular group of friends to play with. That said, if you aren't into FPS, loot-based games, or don't really like multiplayer games then TTK won't be for you. Expand

Even the destiny app is really well done. The gear design was always very good, but now there is a rich variety of very high quality weapon and armor design, which makes the loot hunt much more exiting. It is geat that you can now collect items and store them in an "album". The events are pretty engaging and the new campaign is decent. While I did not like the lack of story and lore explanations at the beginning, I have started to like the mysterious feeling of the game and its world. The lore texts are mostly poor, but there are some great lines.

As someone who started with the series at this point and had previously only tried the demo, I can confirm that this game is a lot of fun. The combat is off the charts, the environments are awesome, and the multiplayer co-op is seamless. Not sure what the game was like before my TTK Legendary Edition, but its certainly worth playing now.

Now you're upset that you can't freely play all the old content you didn't like anyway. Back to my original point, "0/10, too expensive." How is this a real review? Haters everywhere.

Let me start off by saying that I have logged more than 900 hrs on Destiny in year one... most of them in the first 2 months of the release and in the DLCs. Let me make this clear --- I DISLIKED YEAR ONE... after everything got repetitive and the PVP was just moving from one OP weapon to another after patches. I talked **** i thought this game was over.... But with TTK i truly believe that Bungie has learned its lesson and listened to its players in the forums, twitter, etc.

I am actually VERY overwhelmed with how much stuff there is to do currently in TTK. Story, strikes, RAID!, new dreadnought area, new enemies, new patrol, tons of new quests(weapon/gear/hidden), new pvp game modes(not a big fan of some) more space in storage, being able to move gear with Destiny App(actually this is old but a great feature), new bounties which are much more fun in my opinion to complete and can be handed in without going to tower... and more, which i just can't remember off the top of my head.

What i really wanted to do in this review is address the haters and all these negative reviews.

Haters, haters, haters... I have a few on my Xbox friends list and in WhatsApp talking trash all day about TTK... vowed not to get the game after they played the first one... but guess what, i can see them online and playing.

    1. lets look at the review dates... in the first few days, the haters came out and started hating on the game (just look at the dates... the raid didnt even come out yet... no1 completed the NF/heroic) and didnt even play it. As you look further away from Sept. 15th, you can see more honest reviews from people who actually took the time and played the game and did not just post some hate because they had their opinions predetermined by year 1. It is clear as day to me that most of these reviewers are still just upset from year one and have not given this game a chance.

    2. The actual critics who get paid for this, and do not determine the score of the game on their past feelings, rated the game a success. Look at the PSN review of TTK,

    Critic ratings:
    Positive: 32 out of 33
    Mixed: 1 out of 33
    Negative: 0

    3. Also, check out the profiles of most of the negative reviewers... they only came on to hate on this game.

I put it this way to a friend of mine, i would pay $150 for what the game is today. Year one was just a long beta that cost me $60. The bugs and issues were mostly addressed and the actual proper game is now fully out.

If you have never played Destiny and like FPS where you can run with friends, do missions, play pvp, etc... this game will provide you with hours, days, weeks and even months of entertainment.

The only reason i took off a point is because the game is not perfect... there are still a few things in my opinion which i would like addressed. I'm only listing the few negatives with hopes that Bungie is listening here as well.
    - i want to be able to pick up bounties/quests/buy gear from the phone app
    - i want a PVP play list without supers and/or heavy weapons.
    - can we have a private PVP match option?

The story is a lot more coherent now and has humor too. Really enjoyed playing this. It really seems to be a lot more self-aware than any of the previous DLCs.

Nathan Fillion helped Bungie knock this one out of the park!

I'm really impressed with the way Bungie took feedback from the excellent community and made this new version of Destiny. The complaint people have that the "old Destiny" no longer works is valid is somewhat true so that may be what drives the negative reviews here, but I for one am really really excited and enjoying The Taken King Expand

I love this Expansion. While $40 dollars may seem like a lot for an expansion, Bungie really gives you your moneys worth. The new Raid alone adds hours of fun that will challenge your skill to best of its ability regardless of the gear you have. The strikes are new and fun as well. With new arena's for boss battles that are great to play for the first and 10th time. While I did likeI love this Expansion. While I did like my old gear, the expansion makes you get new gear and work for new stuff and was to upgrade the old.

The Taken king adds a whole new area to explore (and I mean really explore) with the Oryx's Dreadnaught. It has a whole new vibe from the Cabal fighting the Hive to random mini-bosses.

The Main story adds great story telling to Destiny and makes you want to keep playing till the end. There are also A LOT of side missions and quests to try and have fun with.

I can easily see myself putting an additional 250+ hours in Destiny with this expansion.

A massive improvement over ever aspect of the base game. Randomness is completely removed from leveling and getting endgame-viable gear is easy, but there's plenty of extra room to maximize character growth. Take note that none of the ultra-negative review bombers provide any citations or examples. With this, Destiny is pretty much the game that everyone originally thought it would be and much more. Worth a buy if you don't have the game at all and certainly worth it if you have the content that was already released.

Remembering many negative reviews I read will just drive me extremely insane. I loved every seconds of gameplay. This game did not get worse when this expansion came out.

After the third expansion Destiny is the same “random loot generator” it has always been, just with some more story in between. [12/2015, p.62]

Always troubled but brilliant, now simply brilliant, Destiny has undergone an extraordinary change. It still demands your time, but the reward is one of Xbox's most well-rounded games. [Dec 2015, p.67]

If you’re willing to do the social networking and accept the time commitment that Destiny requires to reach its endgame content, you’ll be treated to the first massively multiplayer online game built around the core of first-person shooter gameplay, a unique entry in the world of video games, and a growing universe where you and your fellow Guardians are all that stand between the Light, humanity’s last hope, and the Darkness that threatens to wipe us out forever.
