What is with these losers giving this game bad scores? The first Destiny was great, needed work with the story, but they fixed that with some amazing DLC. Bungie has improved this game in EVERY AREA. they obviously listened to the fans and gave us a great story this time. So now people are being cry babies over microtransactions that you don't need to buy

To the people saying they beat the campaign so quick, that's because they did nothing but story missions and none of the side missions, this game also doesn't really start until you hit level 20, the end game is when you really gear up for the raid, and there are all new story missions after level 20.

I played Destiny 1 for a solid 4 months and enjoyed the game even with all the flaws (laggy pvp, sluggish controls, excessive grinding). I safely put D1 at a 6. Grinding didn't feel like grinding and the story line was excellent. Bungie has set the bar with this one. I see the low ratings and can't help but wonder if these folks have even played the game. Anyway, D2 is the most fun I have had in a long time. Expand

This game has glorious and beautiful textures and graphics. Even if the game was horrible, the graphics, art, and music alone would have to give it anything above a ZERO.

    Garbage site.

I AM GIVING THIS GAME A 10 IN PROTEST TO THE ZEROS. Want to know another reason I am giving the game a 10? This is personally, the best game I have ever played in my entire life. It is all consuming to my soul in a way no other game has ever been. I have been playing game since the Atari 7200. I have played all the amazing classics when they were NEW and FRESH, not on some emulator years later, but when the music and graphics of those classics were cutting edge and amazing.

This is the best game I have ever played in my life. I am so happy this game exists. It makes my life better.

GO BUY DESTINY 2, BUY IT FOR YOUR FRIENDS WHO CANNOT AFFORD IT AND PLAY IT WITH THEM TOO. START A CLAN, PLAY PLAY PLAY. BEST GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED IN MY LIFE.

    Buy the soundtrack, AMAZING!!!

The game is more human, with a lot of focus on the citizens of Earth, not just masked Guardians as in D1.

The biggest and best improvement is the removal of the need to go to Orbit after every mission. It's a seamless interface like open-world games like GTA 5 where you go to your map, select the mission, and you can fast-travel nearby or walk there. No need to go back to orbit and select your next destination. Launch into the crucible whenever you want.

Enemies are more varied and a bit more challenging. There's less of them grouping up and more of them spreading out. It varies between relatively little enemies around to sudden bursts of tons of enemies at crucial moments.

It's not light years beyond D1 graphically, but the textures are richer and it's enough of a difference to be considered a separate game, and not a 'DLC' as some people are claiming.

First I want to say this is NOT a 10/10 perfect game, however it is certainly not a ZERO. (I realize the irony, but I'm just trying to "fight" it) I applaud the mediocre scored reviews as they had excellent points and I can definitely see where they are going. Piece of advice to those slapping on zeros, nobody is going to realistically take your review seriously. This game is solid. Real score from me is a 7.8/10. First off, I hated the original. It made me angry beyond all belief. However this sequel has a coherent story, great coop play, and is over all a pretty full package as compared to it's predecessor. The beginning of this game really gives you a reason to fight and personally made me very interested in Gaul and his motivations. I hear raids and other game elements are on the way so no body panic. The campaign will definitely keep me busy playing it over again a couple times especially with friends! There isn't much else to say except it's a fun and large improvement over the first. Overall if anything coming out of my gob has peaked your interest in the slightest, I would recommend you at the very least give the game a shot, maybe during a sale or trial. Thanks for tolerating my incoherent ramblings. Expand

I didn't play the first Destiny, but this game is amazing. It feels like Borderlands, but with a different set of rules and graphics. It's a lot of fun and the game has lots of untapped potential which will keep it interesting for the years to come. The story is good now, the lore is some of the best in the industry, the graphics are stunning, there is awesome loot to discover, and there's loads of content now. It's the perfect game to enjoy as a hobby and even better when playing with friends. My highest recommendation. Expand

the game used to be absolute **** the expansion packs and dlc were pointless storage hogs as well. the game didn't feel like a shooter, it felt more like a slot machine
now, bungie's cut some content, reworked the game, and now it feels like an actual game. the combat's really fluid, just like the first one, it's now free to play (like destiny should've been), and overall, seriously cool

What's wrong with people not liking this game. It's the same team that made Halo and if you're a fan of that, you will love D2. The way you control your character is absolutely fantastic and smooth. The weapons are awesome and armor cool. It is just so vast universe. You can either play entirely PvE or you can choose PvP. And the environments are gorgeous. Love it, love it, love it.

The raid can easily be beaten in 2 hours start to finish with a decent group, as long as you have the right gear. I beat the raid on my first try in 5 hours and now usually beat it in a hour and a half if all goes well. Its pretty easy since there is only one boss, that's right one. All the other phases are mazes or things your fireteam does as a unit just while clearing tons of ads. So your literally taking down groups of infantry with a few yellow elites thrown in here and there the whole raid till you finally hit Calus. It does make for good loot however the prestige raid loot is not worth it at all. That's the only reason I'm not giving it a 10. I was really hoping it would do more to make the raid more difficult as well as give better rewards. Then again day one destiny 2 beats the stank off of vanilla destiny 1. Expand

The combat in PvP feels much more gun focused than superfest. They did recycle a bit too much with the ability classes, but the changes to this abilities that they did keep are really good. Class choice and weapon abilities play well together and it's easy to make a build that suits your gameplay and strategy after a little tinkering. There's plenty to do in this game. To compare to Destiny 1 is really striking at the heart of the matter though. It's the same thing, but improved in every way. If FPS-RPG hybrids are not your thing, if guns AND space magic is not your thing, if pseudo-MMO grinding is not your thing, then turn back. That's here to stay.

Destiny 1 had a very ruptured, uncohesive, mess of pre-grind activity. The campaign, sidequests, and patrol zones were vacant, lifeless, and confusing. Also, there was maybe 8 hours of content at most if you did eveything.

Destiny 2 fixes quite a lot. At the $60 price point it comes in with easily 40 hours of pre-grind content. Your milage may vary, but if you were to do all of the main quests, all adventures, all challenges, get all one-shot chests/lost sectors etc, it'd easily clock in at 40 hours despite the fact that you'd be level capped long, long before then. Public events are far more frequent and Heroic mode for them is much more exhilarating. Mission design, flow of zone and dungeons, strike design, etc are all vastly improved over its predecessor and shows that Bungie is learning from what works and didn't work.

The big sting comes from the lack of difference though. It kind of opens a still sore wound. Destiny 2 is really Destiny 1 HD turbo enhanced edition. All the QoL improvements from Year 2 Destiny are in, spruced up, and better. Nearly every mechanic that stuck that was poorly implemented is now presented with care, attention, and polish. Anything that wasn't broken got a fresh coat of paint, but it's still Destiny 1. Destiny 1 may as well have been a very expensive Early Access/Beta for Destiny 2, for all intents and purposes. A tech demo, if you will. However, at the end of it, with all that pain moved on from, Destiny 2 is the truest (for now) culmination of this genre and these ideas. Bungie tried to do something new in Destiny 1 and it went completely pear shaped for years. They picked up the pieces, learned, hit the drawing board hard, and came through strong with Destiny 2. Bungie finally made the game they wanted to make in the first place, with all the bells and whistles now that ancient hardware was thrown out of the compatibility list. That's the big thing though. Bungie made Their Game. They made Destiny 2, not "space magic Call of Duty" or "Halo but with superpowers."

Many negative reviews and death-grip grudges for the game are because people were still expecting something very different from what Bungie is trying to do. These people will find no solace in this game because Bungie did not compromise.

I cannot overstate though. Unlike Destiny 1, Bungie completely delivered. Bungie went all-in and didn't sacrifice any of their vision for the final product to appease to people who want something else and the whole is much stronger for it. Is it a perfect game? Nah, but if games like Destiny 1, The Division, or Borderlands ever piqued your interest then here be the game likeminded gamers have been begging for.

I love Destiny 2. Fu@#ing LOVE IT. Everything from the finest detail to the soundtrack is fantastic. I have played through the main story and am now doing end game stuff and to be quite honest, there hasn't been one thing (other than the way shaders were implemented) where I thought "this is boring" or "this part sucks." The shooting is still the best in the industry as far as I am concerned, and some of the new audio created for certain guns sound amazing. Like a real throaty Dodge Hemi. I gotta hand it to Bungie. I thought the new weapon slots were a bad idea. Consolidating sniper rifles, and shotguns into what would be in destiny 1 the heavy slot seemed like a really bad idea. Who would pick a shotgun over a rocket launcher? Apparently I would, because shotguns for once feel really devastating, and snipers sometimes come in way more handy in certain scenarios. Weapon slots are now called Kinetic (taking what would have been the primary slot in D1). Energy Weapons (what would have been special weapon slot in D1), and Power Weapons of coarse taking place of the Heavy Weapon slot in D1. You could now technically have 2 auto rifles equipped with say a shotgun in the power weapon slot, or maybe running Scout/Hand cannon/Rocket Launcher is more your style. There are literally hundreds of loadout possibilities. You can now travel from planet to planet WITHOUT going into orbit first. You can now fast travel to different parts of the same planet, again WITHOUT going into orbit. So many quality of life changes were made making it so that Destiny 2 seems like it respects your time so much more than D1. I am not going to go to far into it for fear of spoilers, but if you loved D1 you will LOVE D2. You may see low user reviews here from people who can't stand to see a game that a lot of people love do well, and these people are easy to spot with scores like 0 and complaining of "lack of content" in D2. If they are complaining about lack of content in D2 then they never played D1 because one of the things bungie made sure of is making it so that you don't feel like you have to do one certain type of grind loop to get higher light (or in this case power) levels. I would honestly say that D2 has about 75% more content than year 3 D1. Don't get me wrong there is still grinding, and if you hate grinding then Destiny was never a game for you to begin with. That is not an insult, that is just me calling it what it is, and that's fine! Destiny fans know what I mean. Eyes up Guardians! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Destiny 2 is Bungie's newest release. It is a fast pace FPS which allows players to explore the galaxy while killing lots of different aliens and getting loot to rank up to the max power level. Destiny 2 is the sequel to Bungie's previous game, Destiny. Destiny was a massive game and was played by millions. In some aspects, Destiny 2 is very similar to Destiny but it is also very different. Bungie has made some massive improvements to the game, making it more enjoyable for the people playing it. When the first Destiny was initially released, there were many problems with it, but it seems that Bungie has learned from their mistakes and this time around, the game feels really smooth and has delivered a finished game.
When you first hop into Destiny 2, you are immediately taken into the first mission. This mission is very intense as you are defending your home from these aliens called Cabal. You have to fight your way through them until you find yourself in front of the Cabal’s commander, Ghaul. Ghaul is a great antagonist throughout the story of Destiny 2. Ghaul is very powerful, as he takes control over the Traveller and takes the light. This makes everyone powerless, and it seems that all hope is lost. Through lots of killing and cut scenes, you get your light back, and begin the journey to defeating Ghaul. Destiny 2 has many cut scenes which help to develop the story further, and giving some information about Destiny’s lore. After going through the whole story, which will take about 10 hours, you will finally get to the last mission, where you get to kill Ghaul. This mission can be very tedious if you don’t have the right super on, as it take a very long time to kill him using only weapons. The fight takes about 15 minutes to complete.
Destiny 2 is a fully online game. This means that no matter where you go, you will always run into other people playing. I find that Destiny 2 is much more fun when you’re playing with friends. When you’re with friends, Destiny offers a lot of activities to do, such as patrolling a certain planet, the Nightfall, the Raid, Trials of the Nine etc. All these activities help a player to rank up to the max power level (305). Raids are Destiny’s biggest feature, you go in with 5 of your friends, or ‘randoms’ and you take on challenging enemies and difficult mechanics and puzzles to receive high end gear. You can also go into the crucible which is an area where you face off against other players, (PVP). The crucible is a place where you can test your skills against other people and receive different gear. Trials of the Nine is a weekend event where you can 3 other players face off against other people to try and get wins, getting enough wins without losing grants you with high end gear. Doing this is very difficult as some people in Destiny are very good at the crucible.
Destiny 2 offers 4 main places for you to explore, Earth, Titan, Nessus and IO. All of these places are very different to one another. Earth is very green and dense with woodland, Titan is a massive structure above an ocean which a ‘sea monster’ is lurking, Nessus is a very green and well vegetated place and IO is also very green and covered with bones. Each of these places are very pleasing to the eye as the graphics are very good and clean. All of the places have different activities to do, weather that be public events (a timed event where you can get loot), lost sectors (hidden parts of the map that has chests inside) or adventures (small side missions which tell you more about the story.) There are also vendors on these planets, they allow you to turn in tokens and receive planet specific loot. No matter what, you will not be bored while playing this game.
There are also 2 social spaces, The Farm and The Traveller. A social space is a bit of the game where you can go to hand things in and get gear for it. For example all Destiny players will know what an engram is, you take engrams to cryptarchs, and they will change the engram into gear. There are also a lot more vendors here which will accept tokens and give you gear for them.
Although Destiny 2 is much better finished off game than the first Destiny ever was, there are still some great features that they didn’t bring across from Destiny 1 to Destiny 2. In Destiny 2, weapons now have fixed rolls, this means that every gun has its own perks on it, you could have 10 of the same gun and they would all have the same perks on them. In Destiny 1 this was different, you could have lots of the same gun and they would all have different perks on them, this has made Destiny 2 a lot less of a grind which isn’t always good to everyone, people can’t grind for ‘God roll’ weapons. They have made Destiny 2 more of a casual game.
Overall, I find Destiny 2 to be very enjoyable and a great game. It is a great follow on from Destiny 1, and it is really easy to pick up and understand if you have never played Destiny before.

This is a supremely fun MMO FPS. I just wanted to point out two observations i've made after having similar feelings to some of those who left at least thought out negative reviews.

First, there isn't a level cap. I, too, thought it was pretty easy to hit 20 and felt kind of cheated out of a long level grind, but as it turns out getting to level 20 is not the 'main' leveling system.

First, there isn't a level cap. I, too, thought it was pretty easy to hit 20 and felt kind of cheated out of a long level grind, but as it turns out getting to level 20 is not the 'main' leveling system. 'Light Level' is the real level system and that doesn't have a cap at all. I'm currently a light level 230 at 35 hours into the game, and there are game features that don't even get unlocked until light level 300! So leveling is an endless effort. I really want to do the leviathan raid but I have to get up to light level 270!

This leads me to my second point, in terms of options of what to do, my first ten hours in I thought, "This is fun, but it could get old real fast. Public events could get boring and often times I don't see people."

This is the tricky thing about Destiny 2. They are A LOT of play options. Strikes, Raids, Nightfall, Public events, Faction quests (good quests, not "find three of these"), Patrols, Clans, fun and diverse multiplayer, lost sectors, and we haven't even gotten into all the loot yet!

So why are people saying there aren't a lot of options? Well, Destiny only slowly reveals these things to you over time as you progress through the game, so just when you start to think you've seen pretty much everything and there isn't a lot left new to do, they hit you with 5 milestones, a new planet, new play features.

Basically what I'm saying is, getting to lvl 20 does take a little time, and it's a great way to get familiar with the game and to start to explore it's content, but that's really only the introduction to the game. Some may remember in WoW, how you have to reach level 10 before you can do certain things or go certain places, it's similar to that.

Hitting level 20 literally unlocks so many more features I was running around like a kid in a candy store, I couldn't believe it.

I'll easily put over a 100 hours into Destiny 2, and thats my personal benchmark for a good game of this scale.

In terms of style, this game is a blend of Doom and it's chaotic, swarming fights, Borderlands for it's loot, design, and humor, and Halo, because this is bungie and you can clearly see recycled halo elements in this game. Now, this game may not be the absolute best at any one of these things when compared against industry leaders, but the BLEND of all three is just right, and that's an achievement all on it's own.

    Thanks for reading!

I want Destiny to take larger steps toward becoming an MMORPG. Perhaps its a resource shortage problem with the XB1/PS4, but with the PS4 Pro and XB1X there should be plenty of processing power to yield larger, more populated areas with content that can be tackled with larger friend groups. I'm not fond of the game removing the 6-player Crucible games. But overall I'm more happy with what Destiny 2 has to offer compared to Destiny 1 and I believe all the DLC for Destiny 2 will slot in better to the core game than those mostly-trash DLC packs did for Destiny 1. So far I am REALLY enjoying the game. There is TONS to do with the Director system giving you ideas of what to do to earn better gear to get to the end game raid. I have a ton of side mission quests that there's probably 30 hours more just doing those. Plus the Strikes and PvP means LOTS of things to do.

The gameplay is smooth and the graphics are awesome. I do wonder if the game will get stale in the long run but you get more than your money's worth compared to other shooters with hours and hours of gameplay value. I still would rather have more NPC's standing around giving quests that just a banner sitting there but hey it's a small complaint.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the original destiny, I ended up giving it a 6.5... It just never felt like a complete game to me…
This time around though... Destiny 2 definitely feels like a complete game…
You start out choosing a class for your preferred playstyle, creating your character... then you’re thrown into the world of destiny… right in its story…
The story isn’t uncharted level… the writing isn’t that great.. But its passable... and the characters you meet throughout have characters… there are cut scenes... it isn’t just background noise like the original destiny…
Still again the writing isn’t great so I felt no urgency trying to take down the bad guy and save the traveler…
However this is still a very real campaign…
The campaign is about 12 hours long, its cinematic at moments but missions finally feel unique... it isn’t running through the same map just a little deeper each time like the first destiny…
No... There are still planets here... but these planets have story missions that take you to completely new and fresh locations to complete missions each time…
You’ll be doing a mix of straight up clearing areas of a variety of enemies that will occasionally even be fighting each other, taking down mini bosses, main bosses, vehicle levels…
    the campaign feels fresh throughout…
However to me it sort of loses its spark halfway through and starts to feel a little more lazy with its missions structure and level design feeling more like original destiny… not quite as bad... but it gets close at time… improved like the story and campaign is the loot drops…
They’re not too frequent, not too rare... weapons feel unique so there is plenty here to fall in love with...
though a few things have changes with the weapon and armor system…
First the same... there are different subclasses you can unlock for your guardian and dump skill tree points into your preferred Grande type, shield type, jump type, and enhancements for your grenades and super move which like the grenades are on a cool down and can be boosted with combat and armor…
you still slot armor and dismantle them for parts and cash to buy weapons off of characters… but different is the fact that shaders are now micro transactions because of course they are… these items can only be used once on individual weapons and gear.. and in a game like destiny you’ll be swapping in new gear every hr. at the most, extremely slimy….
but new to the weapon system is that you still have 3 weapon types but this time you have a kinetic weapon, an energy weapon, and a power weapon…
There is no main, side, and heavy like your typical shooter..
Kinetic and energy weapons are exactly the same weapon types, however one has an element attached to it which is used for shooting through enemy energy fields…
I thought this was a pretty cool system as it encourages constant weapon swapping
this means though that there are no more rocket launchers… instead shotguns, grenade launchers, and sniper rifles live in the power weapon slot…
These weapons have such a small clip and ammo capacity that they’re practically useless outside of boss battles..
which are done much better this time around, as is the delivery of the campaign itself…
The campaign is actually paced this time with a couple of missions requiring you to reach a certain level before you can progress the story, so that the campaign is very beatable playing solo…
Level requirements usually annoy me.. but they annoyed me less here because there is so much to do on these planets… there are adventure missions which are essentially solo side quests, there are public events where you can team up with random players to take down a huge wave of enemies for some rare gear, strikes are back where you go through a dungeon to take down a massive boss with a team of 3, and then there’s the crucible which to me is the only thing I feel took a hit…
The crucible is a pvp mode like call of duty, where you’ll randomly play kill confirmed, death match, and kill confirmed type matches against other players with weapons and shields balanced to take away that level advantage… but this time its 4v4 instead of 6v6 and because of that matches just felt less fun to me... the crucible was my favorite part of the original destiny, but here things just aren’t as hectic…
teams huddle up together for easy kills against single players its just not fun, and in quickplay there are only 2 maps and it takes forever to find a match compared to competitive with its 6 different maps but still slow match building times
No raids to talk about yet, those start dropping next week…
But as someone not a destiny fan, I think it says a lot how much I enjoyed this one more even if its competitive modes to me aren’t as fun
    I give Destiny 2

Technically there are visually a few changes but nothing major (that i'm aware of!) the story is pretty good so far (not sure how far I am through it) the weapons have changed slightly in that it appears as if you can have hand guns in at least 2 (if not 3) of the categories available one being kinetic, one being energy and the other slips my memory. The same with other weapon types, ie. submachine gun, assault rifle, etc... there are grenade launchers now too. Loot crates sometimes drop from certain mobs, those at the moment seem to be targets of opportunity and some missions. Engrams drop but so far I haven't needed to visit the dreaded cryptarch... oh and the powers and weapon upgrades seem to have been simplified somewhat and you get less of those inventory hogging useless items too which is great! it feels like quite honestly the game is just a huge piece of dlc with the core game engine being tweaked for the new generation consoles rather than for new and old gen and also to appease some long term fans. I'm going to give it 8/10 because it doesn't feel like its new enough and innovative enough for anything more. As I'm only partially the way through the main missions and unlocking areas this may change but for now just an 8. Definitely worth a buy if you are a fan of Destiny though. Expand

Sick game. Never played number one so I was going on the advice of others that I'd enjoy it and I am not disappointed. The gun play is as good as I've experienced.

The campaign story was pretty crap, but the actual levels are amazing. So much fun squadding up with the crew and tackling this game. Just hitting the end game stuff now, so can't comment too much on the longevity of the game

While I find this game is not a 10/10 I would give it a solid 8 rating. The gameplay is fun, the classes are fun and I enjoyed the major storyline a lot. And they have upped their game from the original by a lot.

Public events are probably my favorite addition. Anyone can participate at any level which is great. Having free scaling across the board allows for more people to participate and for the world to feel more full of players. I do however wish that there were different public events in each location instead of the same one over and over again. It would be way more interesting to go to a public event and be unsure of which one was about to occur. Maybe this is the case in other event locations, however the ones I have done have been the same one in the same place over and over again. This would probably help with the grindy feeling once max level is achieved.

My current complaints that stop this rating from being higher is that I feel like the game's story was cut short for expansion releases. It could have gone a little further. I'm also not much of a fan of microtransactions. While D2 makes microtransactions mainly on cosmetic appearances, I feel a little upset at how Bungie has made sure these microtransactions will stay. They achieved this by making shaders one time use.

One of the plus points is that shaders now be applied to single pieces of gear as to entire armor sets. However combined with making shaders one time use, in order to apply to all pieces you would need multiples of the same shader to color your gear all one color. Combine this with the current gear system and I feel like I shouldn't use ANY shaders because of how quickly I am gearing up and replacing things every 10 minutes.

Also, item pick-ups, reputation and glimmer are a small problems to me as well. Items found within the game may be turned into various NPCs to get rep that award engrams for each rep level gained. I however feel like spending these items for rep is a complete waste of time until you are max level and a higher power level. Glimmer I feel like there is nothing to spend it on as well. I'm constantly capped on glimmer and randomly spending it on treasure maps and random mods that I refuse to apply to my weapons until I hit a higher power level and know I won't be replacing that weapon for a longer period of time.

Much like enchants and gems in world of warcraft, I don't want to waste resources until I know I'll be holding onto that gear for longer than 15 minutes.

One last suggestion that would be beneficial would be to add map markers for dropped chests, or a way to scan and search for high priority targets maybe. I find myself seeing the notification on the screen and being completely unsure where to go. Multiple times I have found the target as they were leaving and was unable to kill them quick enough! :(

I hope that Bungie continues to improve this franchise and expand upon it.

    - The Story is fantastic. They nailed the narrative feel and structure with the campaign. The Red War is an epic quest that really drew me in from the first minute I powered the game on.
    - Mechanically, the game works really well. There aren't any major game-crashing glitches, not that i've seen. ( I have played 152 hours).
    - PVP and Matchmaking function and are fun to play, if you're playing with the right people.
    Bad:
    - The Endgame. Once you beat the story and hit level 20, the endgame feels... pointless, honestly. There are many fun things to do, and doing them for the fun of doing them is great, but the rewards don't always meet the effort. Iron Banner gear is great, but it's also exceedingly frustrating to grind for it for a whole week and still NOT GET ONE OF THE ARMOR PIECES AFTER OPENING 52 ENGRAMS. #notbitter.
    - PVP Variety: 4v.4 is great for pacing, and in the mechanics that they're using I understand why they went that way, but playing only 4v4 gets stale. 6v6 or 8v8 playlists for variety would be GREAT.

Ultimately, I love this game and this franchise, and I'm going to stick with it. I know not everyone will, but I think the game deserves a fair shake. Bungie is listening to the criticisms and is actively planning and implementing adjustments based on our feedback. That's the kind of developer relation we need in this industry, and I think we should try to encourage that behavior in any way possible.

This game is good but sadly doesn't live up to the original. In Destiny we had a RPG, now I don't really know; Destiny had iconic weapons and the only people who played for more than a week were the competitive players. Still bungie tries to bring in "Casual" gamers when the only people who play the game are the competitive ones.

Okay, first I'm going to say what I did not like about Destiny 2 and then what I did like.

First thing I didn't like about this game was the dlc. It was such a good concept which was just rushed to get more money. I think that I could have been so much more. Second, replay ability. The thing which I loved about the first Destiny was that I actually wanted to play the game over and over.

Now positive things. This game's story was so much better than the first, it took me completely by surprise. Thank you Bungi and Activision. Another thing is the visuals of this game are stunning and quite less bland than the first game (although some things are recycled).

To the people who complain about similarities between this game and the first. Just because that is the case, this game does not deserve a 4.3 user score just. it feels so much more complete than the first Destiny without any add-ons. I feel sad about the hate. No game is perfect and just because you thought this game would be perfect doesn't mean you can just rate it 0*.

Yes it has a Story campaign. But it's such an awful, cliche'd mess of a storyline that you 1) dont become vested in the characters 2) cant take it seriously because its written for Saturday morning cartoons 3) End up being surprised how quickly it all ended.
    But the campaign isnt everything!
And you're right. You can grind patrols, quests, public events, strikes to rank up gear. Over, and over, and over. I hit 280 light cap and realized I'm probably going to be running the same strike and raid for the next 2 months. That's like releasing a game like WoW: Legion and giving people 3 dungeons and absolutely nothing else to do.

Destiny 2 at release ends up being a shell of what it could be because of a short production time and a predatory business model built on picking your wallet for content released 2 months after an initial release.

I was disappointed by this decision, as well as the constant changes to the systems in the original that slighted those of us who grinded hours into our characters; losing sleep, calling off work for event releases, and putting serious dedication into our guardian despite the game’s paper thin story and lack of respect for the players’ time.

Most of this has changed in the sequel, for better or worse. The most obvious change is the inclusion of a legitimate narrative. With the first iteration, I spent over 1500 hours in the game and still can’t tell you a damn thing about the story. Something about light, a traveler, and some things no one has time to explain. The sequel focuses on the villain Ghual, whom is a disgraced member of the Cabal that has managed to blow up the tower, capture the Traveler, and cause the grimoire to hit the fan. While the story is present and a welcome improvement, I found it somewhat lacking. While most of the voice actors bring their A game, Nathan Fillion’s Cayde-6 is the only character I was able to develop any attachment to and found the others to be poorly written or simply boorish; particularly Nolan North’s Ghost. He has probably 90% of the lines in the game, and almost all of them come across as a slightly less annoying Claptrap. I blame this partially on his annoying, confused inflection he adds to the lines as well as poor writing. While I am normally a huge fan of his work, the performance featured here made me miss Dinklebot even more.

The textures, lighting, and water effects were a highlight of the experience. It really is a huge upgrade from the limitations put forth on the original due to the last generation’s hardware. The locales, armor and weapons all scream variety, with the exception of some of the level layouts looking like rehashes from the previous entry, albeit with a new name and color scheme. Even with this being said, the level designs are stellar, with expansive environments featuring a number of hidden areas, waiting to be looted for its randomly generated chests, which also return. The levels are so big, I found myself annoyed that I didn’t have a sparrow, which sits on the sidelines until you complete the main campaign. Yes, I just said that. I know, I was pissed too.

I feel like this is partially due to the incorporation of vehicular combat in the story. The story portion of the campaign covers approximately 12 levels, depending on how you look at them; and are much bigger in size and scope. This is a double edged sword, as some of the later story missions take place back to back, which leads to the overly long levels to feel like a bit of a slog, especially with the absence of the sparrow. In addition to the longer missions, there are approximately 50 side missions, as well as patrols, strikes, public events, and then the PVP mode. You can’t say there’s not a wealth of content here.

While the story has been expanded, Bungie has successfully trimmed the fat and eliminated a number of old, dated systems. The need to go to orbit between activities has been eliminated and the need to travel to a hub location to decrypt engrams has been decreased. While engrams are still present, you do not receive them, or other loot, at the same rate you did in the previous game. In my first complete character’s playthrough of the main story, I received about 10 engrams, with all other drops being weapon, armor or consumable without the need to see anyone to use your fresh equipment. You’ll also find a lot less options when it comes to the skill tree, with the previous option being a gradual upgrade through level 20 and beyond, you can easily max your characters stats for all 3 of the sub classes within the same level cap.

While it does appear from the outside that new sub classes are available, most of the options are just slight variations from their previous iterations. The only noteworthy changes are the solar ability for the Warlock now including a sword, similar to the one you can equip in your heavy slot, and the Titan has a Captain America-like shield that can be used in lieu of the bubble shield. The other abilities are not necessarily carbon copies from the previous game, but don’t offer a big enough change to discuss.

If I had to compare Destiny 2 to anything, it would be like trying to rekindle a relationship with an old flame. It might be fun for a while, and it could even work out, but at the end of the day it’s just more of the same. With this being said, if you enjoyed the first game, you’ll love (or at least enjoy) the second. While I don’t regret buying it by any means, Destiny 2 lacks the magic that kept me yearning for more on our first excursion.

The game is still relatively young however, Bungie really needs to go back to the drawing board ASAP and figure out why this game feels so boring and uninspired.

Don't like Gambit and don't want to play it? Too bad because literally everything about the next update ties into that mode. There's also some Crucible nonsense, don't remember or care honestly.

I had an initial spark of hope when Bungie split from Activision, thinking "finally, they'll stop making so many mistakes". Sorry folks, it wasn't Activision who was screwing Destiny up. It's Bungie. It's 100% Bungie and this latest update proves that.

It was very short, boring and doesn't give you any interest in any of the characters whatsoever. This time however, its the other way round. The campaign in this new instalment is definitely an improvement from the first one. The characters are more interesting (and funny), starring Nolan North as the Guardian (big fan of his work), but the gunplay feels smoother, it is less repetitive and it has a much more engaging narrative and amazing graphics. So what is it that really lets this game down for me? The multiplayer. This is a big factor for me because once I complete the story I will be ready to spend the rest of my time with this game on the multiplayer like I did in the first Destiny as I did not give a s**t about the story. Unfortunately for me, that was simply NOT the case. When playing the open beta I was not impressed with the multiplayer. Was it the imbalanced classes, the boring game modes, the short and boring rounds or the broken mechanics such as the class abilities or the stiff turning controls? It was all of them! Though I still went and bought the game mainly for the campaign and because I though that this was just the beta stages of the multiplayer. I knew there would be more maps, classes and game modes which it does offer but all the problems are still there. All of the classes are very imbalanced with some being overpowered and others being underpowered (for example the Hunter is OP while the new Warlock is very underpowered). The entire game itself is a combination of Call of Duty Infinite Warfare and Halo 5. I hated Infinite Warfare and if you did than you will not enjoy this. I did enjoy Halo 5 however. In the first Destiny there was something in the multiplayer that made these two combinations work, with this game however it feels very wrong. Is it because of the futuristic entries into the COD series we've been getting such as Infinite Warfare or was it the disappointment with Halo 5. I could spend an hour of your time saying everything that is wrong or doesn't work in the multiplayer in detail, but to summarise it, it is average at best and boring, frustrating and imbalanced at worst. And for some reason the gunplay in the singleplayer feels really good, even when you team up with other players, but in the multiplayer, the Warlocks guns for example are P-Shooters. Either that or the enemies I fight are bullet sponges. When I say the multiplayer is frustrating its in times such as when I get killed by an enemy I should've killed because I started shooting them first with most of my bullets landing on their body. They obviously had more armour than I did, but with a better gun at the same time that is capable at getting headshots easier, which is probably why they were able to retaliate and kill me, but like I said the classes and weapons are so imbalanced and the abilities are so inconsistent. Overall I would not recommend buying this game just for the multiplayer unless you love the futuristic shooters such as Infinite Warfare, than I would say yes, but wait. If you wanna buy this game for the single player, even then I wouldn't recommend it. As much as I enjoyed this games campaign, it was annoying how you must always be connected to the internet even when you just want to play solo. That was the same problem that the original Destiny had. The campaign is about no more than 10 hours long. If you wanna buy this game for the single player than I suggest wait a couple of months for a couple of price drops, than you should pick it up as it is definitely worth paying attention to unlike the first destiny. It seems that the game got almost everything right with the single player improving from the original in almost every way, but they just ruined the multiplayer for me. The multiplayer in the first Destiny was not perfect but was very fun and enjoyable. I am disappointed how instead of taking everything good about the original Destiny's multiplayer and make it better, they almost completely f**ked it up, but at least flag capture was untouched, which is good because its my favourite in this game but bad because I wished they would've improved on it because I found it only decent in the first Destiny. I just hope that either they make some major changes to the multiplayer throughout the course of next year or that Destiny 3 will do everything they did right with the multiplayer from Destiny 1 and not like Destiny 2 and that the campaign is just as good as it is here, because so far, once I fully finish the campaign, this is a game that I will forget about a couple of weeks later until either I trade it in or until the multiplayer is reworked. If it is, then I may do a re-review and re-evaluate my opinion on the multiplayer because so far I am NOT impressed what so ever. This game is definitely another disappointment just like the original but in the opposite way. Expand

The new progression and reward system dosen´t make any sens to me. The mechanics are just so simple and boring that i have no motivation to play Destiny 2 all week. The weekly milestones (Destiny 2 new end game progression/reward system) are done just in 1 day, maybe 2 if you have not enough time to do the raid as well. And then you have nothing to do beside of leveling an new character. There are way too less things that reward me to keep me up playing Destiny.
Yeah compared to vanilla Destiny Destiny 2 is a lot better, but Destiny 1 was just a mess when it releases back in 2014 soooo yeah...
i don´t get it why Bungie changed all these things! Destiny 1 expansion TTK and Iron Banner had such a great impact with the progression and reward system and was soooo much fun to play and leveling up your gear. But it is all gone!

Destiny 2 is a great game for beginners who are interested to joine the universe, but for competitive and hardcore players like me this sequel ist just a joke. I played now 36hourse and im so bored and burned out that i will leave Destiny 2 till the PC release.

Sry for my english^^, i hope you find this review helpfully. Thanks for reading.

To be honest, if it wasn't for the 10/10 presentation and music in this game, I would be giving this game a 3 or 4. Although this is a much more improved version of Destiny 1 in terms of story, balance & gameplay, Destiny 2 still lacks many aspects that would make this a great game.

Main Story: Despite the story being bit longer and having a little more character development, it is still fairly dull and doesn't take you away with whats going on. I never found myself getting pulled in or super interested in it. I also, despite what was advertised, did not find the story to be sufficiently long, I believe I did the whole story and all the side missions in 10 - 12 hours. There is only 4 planets and many of the aspects of them are similar to the Destiny 1 planets. I would have loved for like a 30 hour campaign (not including side missions) with like 12 planets & just stuff everywhere to do.

Side Storyies: Although there is a fair bit more in regards to side missions, they are just extra single missions and not quest chains so you did them then they were done. To be honest, while most of them were not very creative, there were are couple that were quite interesting and engaging including one on a planet where you investigate a phenomenon where a certain alien race are being hypnotized by music., but sadly for such a cool side mission, it is only 1 mission long and not like 8 so it is done and by the by upsettingly quickly.

End Game: I've played all of the endgame in Destiny 2 now and although I quite enjoyed it at first, I quickly realised that this doesn't not last at all. The end game runs out of content very quickly and after that just becomes pointlessly repetitive. This aspect is actually worse than Destiny 1 because because there is a lot less incentive now to repeat activities. After 30 hours of this game (which includes having a second character), I am almost done with the game, i.e. have completed & got everything and don't need to continue playing because of it.

    The good stuff:
I personally still really enjoyed the gameplay, the go here and there, shoot this and that aspects of the game are still really fun and satisfying and the ability to easily team up with friends and do this really adds to it. It's just sad that there isn't like 5 times more to do.
Presentation is 10/10. There is some fantastic scenary and places to see. It actually upsets me that this 10/10 presentation has been poorly utilised by poor story telling and campaign.
    Music is 10/10.

    The bad stuff:
This game has microtransactions, not quite pay to win, but it is increasingly getting more involved in the core game. Any game in my view that has microtransactions, no matter what they are, loses a mark or 2, they are a disease on gaming.
PVP is repetitively boring and micro.
Story telling is still poor in most aspects.
End game is fun but short lived.

I thing that has scared me most about this game is how well it has been marketed, I really enjoyed this game at first but have very quickly realized that it doesn't last for long and shorts fall very fast. This has left me feeling like I have really been deceived and misled. I think I will give the next DLC ago but if the trend continues, I think I will finally be saying goodbye to Destiny 2.

I'm not going to be one of those people that gives this game a bad review because it had no real endgame....but i won't give it an amazing review either. If you like Destiny 1 you will enjoy Destiny 2 for about a month...and then realize that any good content Destiny had was removed and or made far to simple in Destiny 2...There is no grind...and that's an issue.

I had over 1500 hours in Destiny 1. It is now July 2018 and i haven't played Destiny 2 since March. The campaign was short, but sweet. It included the much needed story sorely lacking from the original however Ghaul (the main protagonist) has a side story that does little to advance the main story arc. Beyond the campaign there is actually initially very little to do. The PvP has been ripped to bits. Curse of the Osiris came out and was very substandard, Warmind followed a few months later and whilst it certainly added some much needed content AND a worthwhile grind there was ultimately still little to do. Destiny 2 is currently riding a wave of negativity that Bungie has never seen the likes of.
Bungie even admitted to all their fans that as players we are better off waiting till this fall to play the game. To not have faith in your own franchise is extremely damaging.
The fall update looks impressive, but ill wait for reviews to commit again. I would love an excuse to play Destiny again. Till then, you're better off with Warframe.

Destiny 2 still fails to live up to the studios behind it.

To preface: I've been a fan of Destiny ever since (2012?) where I saw the art for the Titan subclass, ever then I excitedly awaited the release of Destiny 1, and while Destiny 1 had its flaws, it's the first year was some of the most fun and memorable times I've had playing a video game. The same cannot be said for this game.

The same cannot be said for this game.

While Destiny 2 has an actual story compared to Destiny 1 that had none. It still just falls back on an exciting and interesting first 30 mins then falls into mediocrity, as it relies on cliches, touches on interesting concepts and ideas that you'd expect from watching the trailers (At least the D1 trailers, D2 relies on the Call of Duty like way of storytelling.) but this game never is confident enough to go deep into interesting themes, and rarely likes to have our characters weak. And while this review is mainly for the base game, the Forsaken DLC story has the same issue, first 30 mins are amazing and emotional than just drop and die.

That's kind of the issue with Destiny, it seems like so much more than it is. You want it to be a World of Warcraft like SCI-FI MMO, while it can deliver on the SCI-FI part, the MMO? Not so much. Destiny 2 (in its current state 9/3/2019 and it still was as boring during launch) is a weakly cobbled mess. There's little incentive to do anything anymore, you rarely need the best exotic gear to defeat a boss, just pick a loadout from this range of Subclass and a massive handful of weapons and you're ready to go! Which isn't really a bad thing, I actually enjoy not having to have one of two rocket launchers to let me raid with people (A feature of Destiny 1's DLC) But there's no incentive to do the raids, there's no incentive to anything really besides FASHION. As the gear you obtain will scale with you to the max, you don't need to beat the hardest challenges to become the strongest level. You just need to play enough. This game will hand you out items like Christmas, hiding away other more unique weapons behind long, (which is sometimes bad) and sometimes needlessly long quests. They vary in how pointless they are, with some being fun to do and others being a needlessly long slog, I'm all up for a challenge, just not intentionally wasting my time grinding a boring activity, which is what Destiny 2 becomes in the end.

If you're new, you'll have plenty to do. It'll be fun, and cool and exploring Destiny 2's environments will be so cool and fun, getting exotics and legendaries will feel like a blast! Then you reach the max light and the game becomes a grind, there's no reason to keep playing besides fashion, any loot you want is too easily accessible (not saying it's EASY to get, it's just TOO for how hard it should be) The game incentivizes grinding through it's challenges and loot systems which is why I am writing this review, this is my fourth time I've been burnt out from this game. And won't be playing it again until Shadowkeep comes out, just for me to get bored of that as well.

Don’t let Destiny 2 being “free” fool you. What is available for free is akin to a demo. You have to sink hundreds of dollars into the game to get what is considered to be the full experience. The game is very niche, chances are if you play the demo, you will know right away whether or not Destiny 2 is for you.

With all that said, there is a lot of content available in the game if you do pay for all the expansions. There are potentially hundreds of hours in it for the player. Raids and cooperative content are where this game really shines, so if that sounds appetizing to you then I’d say the game will be worth the hefty toll. Overall, it’s really one of those games where you have to decide for yourself if it’s worth it.

I was surprised by how much this new incarnation of Destiny appealed to me. New worlds are brilliantly designed, sound and visuals are top notch, combat feels great (those headshots!). This is how the first Destiny should have looked. [12/2017, p.50]

Destiny 2 is more accessible to the neophytes than the first game was, but still complex enough to get long-time players to invest hundreds of hours in the universe. The story of the campaign is less confused than in the original, but it’s not exactly good either. It went from painstakingly bad to ordinary, which is at least an improvement. Destiny 2 is the gaming equivalent of a Michael Bay movie.

Destiny 2 is one of the most enjoyable games I’ve played this year, and tackles one of the biggest issues with the first game. Featuring a stellar, albeit easy, single-player campaign, excellent combat and class mechanics, and the most enjoyable cooperative multiplayer I’ve seen in a shooter since Gears of War 4, Destiny 2 is a must-buy.
