This isn't Destiny 2, it's Destiny 1.5. No new enemies, no new planets. Everything is just reskinned assets from Destiny 1. Enemies are just slightly different color, planets are exactly the same, just a new map and then called a new planet.

However I did really enjoy the story missions from lvl 1-20. But the end game is seriously lacking. Not a single friend of mine from Destiny 1

However I did really enjoy the story missions from lvl 1-20. But the end game is seriously lacking. Not a single friend of mine from Destiny 1 is playing Destiny 2 and I bought it during the Black Friday sale, so they all gave up on it in less than 1-2 months. Haven't seen a single one come back for the new DLC either.

Don't like the loot being hidden behind the Ever-moremoney-Verse. Their "accidental" moving content behind the DLC paywall when it was part of the base game before.

Upset with their complete abandonment of Destiny 1.

Destiny 2 is unambitious and lazy. And once again, Bungie/Activision slap fans in their collective faces by releasing an addition that negates prior progression. And once again, Bungie/Activision slap fans in their collective faces by releasing an addition that negates prior progression. The Taken King inexplicably locked away end game content that was present in the original Destiny since launch. Bungie penalized millions of fans who didn’t immediately purchase the upgrade. If players didn’t buy Taken King, their disks became paper weights.

Bungie amps up the screwing over of fans in D2 by literally resetting everything. NOTHING players did in the original matters. They start fresh with puny guardians. Destiny 2 tells us 4 things about Bungie: 1) Its “10 year plan” was rubbish and outright marketing hype. 2) Bungie releases content that's not worth the admission price while penalizing fans. 3) It lacks the creativity and foresight to move beyond the cash grab DLC formula. 4) Bungie submits players to relentless grinding for paltry rewards.

Die hard Destiny fans think D2 is great. The rest of us are left scratching our heads. Compared to The Elder Scrolls Online, Diablo 3, Neverwinter, and the still free-to-play Warframe, Destiny is the most anemic and potentially most expensive mmorpg game on consoles. So why do fans like it? Because it’s freakin easy. Destiny is accessible, but it lacks the depth and nuance of better mmo’s. Destiny is popular because it’s a decent first person shooter, a genre that excels on consoles. As an mmo, Destiny is pathetic. It has just enough meat to reel players in, but not enough to keep them on the line.

Combat remains samey. Bungie kept the same 3 classes. Weapons are pretty much the same. And like the original, progression happens too fast. D2’s terrible pacing leads to excessively contrived difficulty spikes (Bungie slapped a timer on nightfall strikes). My character was nearly maxed out after a single session. Most players will achieve everything in under a week. Some in a single day. Many players I’ve encountered have already created second and third guardians. That’s exemplifies the problem: there isn’t enough to do, and activities are basic.

Guardian customization remains unchanged from the original’s measly offerings. So all guardians look alike, again. The social mechanics are still inadequate. Players must go thru extraordinary lengths to mingle with others. Just two weeks after launch, most locations are fairly empty. Public events are often solitary experiences. Developers at Bungie are the only people on earth who believe the antisocial nature of Destiny helps the franchise.

What else hasn’t changed in PVE? Well, just about everything. Guardians fight the same baddies they encountered in the original using the same weapons and same abilities. A half-assed campaign is all that distinguishes the two apart. It sucks. Its brevity alludes to rushed development and the final cutscene provides a glimpse of future DLC. The campaign is a peace offering, not a meaningful effort to expand the Destiny universe. And Bungie butchered it for the sake of future cash flow.

Bungie did dramatically change one thing, the loot/vendor system. It's royally broken. All RNG benefits lie in low-level events. This renders elite activities pointless, which is fine because they're unenjoyable anyway. Even worse, players can't buy gear once they progressed far enough. They must rely on a lottery to pad out their arsenals. It's a mess.

The game engine needs an overhaul. Load times are annoyingly long. Even the map takes 2-3 seconds to appear, and it’s never centered over the player. The frame rate struggles to stay at the 30fps cap which makes for sluggish combat. D2 has solid mechanics, but it’s missing the fluidity of its competitors. COD, Overwatch, and Battlefield deliver solid performance and crisp visuals on large set pieces. By comparison, D2 graphics look washed out while being prone to frame drops and stuttering. Busy public events slow everything to a crawl.

A few meaningful changes happened in the Crucible. Bungie made all game modes 4v4 while nerfing some weapons. Matches are less chaotic. Run and gun playstyle won't work here. It’s more balanced than the original but offers nothing worthwhile. Unfortunately, multiplayer still relies on bargain bin peer-to-peer connections. Expect horrendous lag and inconsistent performance. Frames are locked at 30fps in competitive multiplayer. Bungie obviously doesn’t care that 60fps and dedicated servers are the de facto minimums for competitive play. There’s no justification for its decision.

Destiny 2 is a cash grab. Fans zealously proclaim the “little things” Bungie changed. Yet, it’s the big things that hold Destiny back. With decades of game development experience and billions in revenue, Bungie still can't create the Destiny it promised. Yet, it arrogantly expects fans to fork out their hard-earned cash. If you didn’t like the original, you won't like this one either.

I am a fan of Destiny but I cannot in no shape or form recommend this game.. No Excuses, It is essentially the another DLC 'the Cabal' and not a complete game... More Storyline but more questions unanswered.. I am not waiting or paying for DLC to come, that should be included already... Long story short this is Destiny 1 "Reloaded"

And a really lame attempt at being an mmorpg... and that is what kills this game for me. It's pretty sad that the first raid isn't even up yet... not even a complete game. I was hoping there would be two or three raids open the day the game released so that players had a ton of progression to look forward to but they don't. The first raid will be completed in one day by some elite gamer crew then everyone will rinse and repeat. Then you'll be standing around town with nothing to do but kill the same **** you've always killed with much better gear then when you completed the raid... it just doesn't make sense why we have to buy the next expansion to get the next raid. Money? More then likely... There should higher end raids that only a handful of people get into but there is not. This is a rpg made for the masses and its obviously brought down to that level because of it... that is why Destiny 2 suffers to achieve what it set out to do originally. There is absolutely no match making in destiny whatsoever, your ragtag team of level 10s WILL go against full level 20 premades almost every time. I get that i'm behind and naturally I shouldn't be trying pvp this early on, but I honestly didn't think after just 2 days everyone and their mother would be running around in full epics and exotics. Even with the infamous loot cave back in the day it took a while to get solid gear and levels, with Destiny 2 they pretty much took away all motivation to play since you're pretty much handed everything you need after only a handful of playtime. Lets start off with the obvious, its a dumbed down version of the original Destiny for "accessibility"
Overall I didn't mind the story, it didn't hook me, but it felt like a step in the right direction compared to its inconsistent and confusing predecessor. The overall problem with Destiny is a lack of replay-ability for the end game content.

Strikes have borderline no value, the raid was somewhat challenging but with effort and marginal common sense beatable, and the fact that I only had to play once, maybe twice a week for the weekly resets are more annoying than anything else. Once you hit level cap you have a boring grind for tokens to hopefully obtain a marginally decent weapon.

Crucible (the PvP) will always have balancing issues, and if you can look past the imperfect nature of the game I suppose that is one of the few redeeming qualities.

Overall I wasted my money on this, and will not be purchasing the DLC nor a Destiny 3. I have a few friends that give the excuse that "its a work in progress," and my answer to them is their being conned if they think Destiny will somehow overhaul with massive changes that gamers actually want.

If you haven't bought it, don't.

the story is only marginally better than the best game of destiny 1, but thats not saying much. they recycled the same subclasses and reskinned new ones from the previous ones, painting a shamefully pathetic image that they did something new when they didnt.

the loot is garbage and the exotics are sub par in feel and look. all the bosses are reskinned in each missions, and all of the same enemy factions from the previous game are back, yet nothing new is even added to them except a couple new weapons and thats it.

destiny 2 is a lazy reboot of a cancelled expansion by bungie, they thought they could ride into the sunset with minimal effort put into this game, and they failed miserably. they had three years of feedback from destiny 1, and they threw all of that out the window because they only thought of profits and know they can abuse their fanbase without any sort of hard repercussions.

Translation: make a game about grinding for loot but only allow players to get said loot once a week and even then it may not be better than what you have. Nothing to see here folks. Just wait for Destiny 3. Should be dropping soon.

You quickly start collecting loot that is almost identical to your existing gear, except with a couple stat numbers increased. PvE is an agonizing mindless grind, like eating stale Cheetos for some meager satisfaction when you have nothing else to eat, but it leaves a nasty taste in your mouth. PvP is a laughably unbalanced joke maybe included to appease Halo fans expecting something much different from the once great developer Bungie. Destiny appears to be many things, but appearances can be deceiving. The planets you explore are very pretty, but so linear. Most locations are like the most simplistic three-lane Call of Duty map design, scaled out by a thousand. Exploration is very linear. The lore, plot, and sense of atmosphere, are extremely thin, and lacking any soul. I would summarize this online-only game by saying that is a solid 6 to 8 hours of free entertainment, until you start gagging on the stale repetitive gameplay, and refuse to be strung along by this barebones game covered in glitter (or glimmer)… Also, the first 30 minutes are so similar to the original Destiny, that I honestly thought I had accidentally loaded up the first Destiny. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ok. Here goes. Before I start I would say this - I have spent hundreds of hours playing Destiny 1, I got myself all the DLC for D1 and with the exception of last one (the rise of iron) I enjoyed them equally and consider it worth my money. Stepping into D2 I was excited which later turned into frustration as it would seem that Bungie did not learn anything from D1 and went on its task to reinvent the wheel from the start:
1.) Shooting mechanics and gameplay - these guys made halo and have already proved themselves in terms of gun play. No issues here at all Bungie. This might be your only saving grace.
2.) Story – You have at least 4 major plots to cover (one for each race of enemies) and then there is the big question of the big balloon hanging in the sky (the traveler). The pace at which you are telling us the story, you are going to run out of time and sequels to finish them up. Example: Using D2 to introduce new chars – Garry and his cabal dogs (btw they are the only new enemy type in D2) and a completely new story that asks more questions than it answers. Do we know more about the traveler now? No we don’t. Where are the Vex from, what do they want, how are they so powerful? Why have the Fallen’s united , Variks & Crow what are they upto ? and don’t for a second think that you are done with Hive / Taken. The Taken King DLC did explain a lot (thanks to Mylin & Byf) but you have again left the story hanging with lot of questions than answers. You guys need to make your story coherent and give it some depth, char development etc. Of all your mistakes, incoherent story, is the biggest one and it reflects in all your side plots as well –
DESIGN THE STORY & GAMEPLAY IN SUCH A WAY THAT IT MAKES THE PLAYER ASK MEANINGFUL QUESTIONS LIKE - WHO IS THIS COOL LOOKING EXO? HOW DOES SHE KNOW SO MUCH? WHAT IS SHE GUARDING? WHO IS SHE TALKING TO ON THE COMM. LINK? HOW CAN SHE TELEPORT FROM ANYWHERE? HOW IS SHE CONNECTED TO THE TRAVELER?
And then your answer: THE EXO STRANGER THANKS THE PLAYER FOR FIGHTING THE BAD GUYS AND GIVES THE PLAYER HER RIFLE. THAN DISAPPEARS , FOREVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am telling you Bungie you do not have enough time to warp up important story lines let alone the sub plots (I count 15 so far). We are two sequels and five paid DLCs down and you still haven’t told us anything. Every sequel / DLC introduces a new sub plot (yes I am calling the story of D2 a sub plot) that distracts from the main story and does not answer any of important questions we had from D1. We can have major plot related questions and still have fresh content – a DLC where the guardian take a journey inside the Traveler. Osiris DLC could have been used to answer questions about the VEX, it could have told us how they as a species got involved in all this, why worship the darkness. Instead you introduced a new boss and new story for Mercury. Osiris is a most powerful warlock that will go to any lengths to get results (in this case saving humanity), but in the end you made him look like some old hobo who does not care for any of this and in the end goes on a pilgrimage into the VEX gate to explore new world, with no information on VEX shared with the vanguard. He even says to his ghost in the end of DLC that “……..we have all the time in the world”, I get VEX alternate timeline & time travel and all crap, but is that the kind of tempo you want to build up as a narrative telling your player base that there is no urgency and you have all the time in the world. BTW no raid in this DLC, Raid layer does not qualify as new content.

These games are made for the stupid... Sorry to offend people who bought it but it's true lol. Hear me out...

Micro transactions. Corporate greed. More money that they don't need. Many companies that work harder don't do this crap... But companies like crapdivision like to do it because they are super greedy and don't give a crap about how great of a video game experience you will have. Nothing says EF you to the customer more than this. A system designed to pressure suckers into wasting money.

The developers only have so much precious time to work on the game in order to make it better and better. A game is only as good as how much work goes into it for the most part. They could be spending ALL of their time making it as good as possible but what do they do instead? They cut out a huge chunk of their time in order to implement a scam your wallet system. This isn't for the gamers... You're an insane idiot if you think that... Wake up! It's for corporate gains. Which means this is a game with no heart. No soul. It was designed to trick stupid people into thinking it's good while ripping them off big time. This isn't a matter of opinion. It's a fact that it's not a very impressive shooter compared to the greats I listed above and it's clearly designed to rip you off and pressure you into wasting more and more money on stuff that's only worth while to idiots with tiny brains/low standards. If you are one of these suckers then you seriously need to stop buying these games...

And don't give me that "I love the game and never bought micro transactions"

1... You're a idiot so of course you would love something mediocre/terrible.

And 2... Even if you're telling the truth about not buying micro transactions (I don't believe you because you're a moron who's into this game in the first place)....... But if you are being truthful... Think to yourself right now... Think hard about something that I'm going to ask you here...

Have you ever saw a micro transaction and felt some what tempted to buy it? The answer will be yes. As you grind and grind and grind senselessly whilst bored as hell... You're going to get a feeling that tells you that if you buy micro transactions, your grind will be shortened. Of course you're going to feel that way. That's what this system does. It's designed to tempt you into doing something that's totally not worth it. And that's what's wrong with it...

It's a dirty trick and only idiots fall for it. Sadly most gamers are idiots which is why micro transactions are super popular in video games today. It's bad enough just about all of our multiplayer games are getting screwed like this... But it's happening to single player games too. The new Shadow of War will have them. How lame is that? DLC is bad enough as it's usually over priced weak sauce that should have come with the game. But micro transactions are really pushing it as they can cost you close to thousands if you go overboard like a idiot. My advice? Ignore games like this altogether... Besides... No micro transaction game EVER falls into the category of greats like ocarina of time, chrono trigger, smash bros melee, metal gear solid, star craft 1 etc etc... Why play a dumb ass over priced micro transaction game that's mediocre at best when you could be playing the best of the best? You know deep down that you're not missing out when you pass up a game like theftiny poo.

Lets talk about the game play... Many shooters take a bit of skill to master. The good players can pull off some impressive stuff from time to time. You see that in shooters like the older ones. Quake, counter strike, halo ce... YOU DON'T see that in crap like Theftiny poo. In theftiny poo you see high auto aim, bullet magnetism, and super powers that any scrub can get good at abusing. The skill gap isn't that high. It's a game for dude bros. It's not for the skilled. It's for cod kids lol.

The story... Part 1 didn't have a story and this one does but it's corny, short, and not interesting. The only good thing about it is a few jokes I guess but you shouldn't buy a game like this for its story. You can watch that for free on youtube.

Content is low as crap. People beating the game in just a few hours and then what's left to do? Grind grind grind... Yawn...

Maybe it gets to about a 7 out of 10 once all the DLC is released one day but at that point the game is massively over priced. It's already overpriced as it is. It's not even a expansion lol. I seen free games offer more than this haha! So I give it a 3 out of 10 for being the scum of gaming. Games like this are what's making new video games these days fail miserably.

You know how the annual Madden game is little more than a roster update? Well, that's pretty much what this game is. There really is nothing more to say than that, if you played the first one, then you've pretty much already played the second one as well. So if you're the type to buy each new edition of Madden when it comes out, then you'll feel right at home buying this game.

Destiny 2 has taken steps backwards in every possible area from Destiny 1. The endgame is comprised of a slot machine vendor mechanic and there is no incentive to grind for weapons as they are now all identical. Bungie has now fooled us twice. No more.

Luke Smith, the game's director, said in the spring that he doesn't want Destiny to be a "time sink," which is why Destiny 2 feels as though it was built for the casual player. Those complaining about it are those who have thousands of hours into the first Destiny. And, you're probably asking yourself "How can anyone play a game that long without getting bored?" Well, because Destiny had elements that made the rewards different each time, giving a false sense of added content. But, it worked. Static rolls in Destiny 2 to help control balance changed this, making every duplicate weapon or piece of armor that you get worthless. Yes; you get legendary shards for dismantling them, but you'll soon realize that you have more than you know what to do with.

In short, the content of Destiny 2 is great; and, there actually is a story. What a shock. But, there is no lasting incentive for people to keep playing. There simply is no end game and, eventually, no reason to play.

Story and campaign are pretty good, however the pvp is a solid 0/10. “Competitive”, what a **** joke.

Bungie does not listen to the community.
Hundreds! of problems and bad decisions from balance, ressources, matchmaking to UI, RNG and progression... not worth my time listing all of them.

It's really a pity. Concerning launch, there have been a few things that were discovered in Beta but never corrected (like some error codes that were just renamed) making the game unplayable. Oh, and again the same strategy. A game thrown to the gamers that will be better and with more content by buying the next DLC(s)... really sad...

I don't understand how people take this seriously this game is a joke it's like mass affect and borderland wanted too smash and have a child but they where both men and didn't want too adopt soo they gave their great great grand cousins ashes too the crackhead down the road and asked her to give them a scold which them and it worked and thousands of people thaugh mixing those two families that where built off of generations of incest was a good i idea and rushed too suck off that thing looks a centuar from fallout because it was made by bungie the guys that made good games with solid gameplay and stories for a bit until they took up a contract with a company that is notoriously know for being anti consumer so they can make some **** games butt keep their reputation intact because oh no it's activisions fault it's not like everyone knew was going to happen but I guess they allready have the money for another mediocre at best sequel with a bunch of terribly written and lacking in content overpriced dlc that everyone will buy to make the base game at least worthy of a 4/10 seriously why are we letting them away with this DO NOT BUY THE DLC AND DO NOT BUY INTO THE MICROTRANSACTIONS you are actively feeding into another video game crash STOP before it's too late it's bad enough as it is but sooner or later you're favourite games will be worse then the ones we played in 2008 as we see here my overall thaught is that this game is a pointless grind with a terrible below call of duty story boring easy and monotonous gameplay ripped straight from halo without fun veichles of dual wielding pitiful generic characters except for cayde 6 but it's dumb humour and and the only thing he does is make jokes and get kidnapped by robots and the side content is less diverse then a kkk convention with amazing well written stories like go here and shoot the lads or scan this thing or even better stand here for ten seconds and yes I'm serious there are missions where you stand in an area for then seconds for no reason. Literally the best thing about this game was the gameplay and they couldn't even get that righ. so the moral of this review is don't trust activision. Ps if yall nigs actually like this game nobody cares but seriously don't put money into this **** just play berderlands. Expand

I played Destiny One a lot. Like...A lot, a lot. Not because it was an amazing game, but because there was nothing else out that was better. I forced my roommate to buy D2 because I knew it would be the same BS, and it is generally. They made improvements in the story, but the game just isn't that great. I would recommend a different game for sure. Don't waste your time or money.

Who paid off these critics? Did they mentioned how there is no new enemies, less online content, a terrible online micro transaction system the game is built around and a publisher that continues to throttle XP to get you to buy more things with real world cash. Stay away from this game. If you do want to buy it, get it used to keep the money out of EA and bungie's greedy hands

Destiny 2 is a perfect example to not trust everything AAA corporations try to sell you. While it is a polished game, there is still a huge penalty for releasing a "big game" with no content. It's like opening a store with only two items to buy in it. It's pointless to even enter unless you NEED it.

It's like opening a store with only two items to buy in it. It's pointless to even enter unless you NEED it.

What disappoints me the most about Destiny 2 is that it is one of those games that gets better with time. It's been almost a year and we've gotten the second, SECOND DLC and it still feels like the same lackluster game since release. I personally got kicked out of at least 10 clans for inactivity because I would stop playing Destiny 2 for periods of time from being burnt out.

After you beat the campaign and all the little side missions that don't do a whole lot for you. You can complete weekly activities every week. Mind you, these are the same activities EVERY week with maybe minor changes in constraints depending on what it is. There is no way to keep a fanbase around if you expect them to rinse and repeat the same content every week.

As for the DLCs, dont even bother. Both of them are a waste of money. As they do offer new cosmetics, weapons, etc. They still lack the magic word of this review; content. For example, the raid of the first DLC takes place in the same place as the base game raid. I beat both DLCs combined in roughly 5 hours including the raids. The rewards aren't even that satisfactory to keep you coming back like Destiny had me coming back for the Vault of Glass.

Critics will lie to you, I wont. Destiny 2 looks beautiful, but that's where the green grass stops growing. If you want a game that will keep shoving the same content in your face every week with the inclusion of DLC and microtransactions then Destiny 2 is right up your alley. I am personally disappointed in the sequel to what did become a good with time. Destiny 2 however, I feel will have a darker fate. Bungie has let me down for the last time.

I was surprised by how much this new incarnation of Destiny appealed to me. New worlds are brilliantly designed, sound and visuals are top notch, combat feels great (those headshots!). This is how the first Destiny should have looked. [12/2017, p.50]

Destiny 2 is more accessible to the neophytes than the first game was, but still complex enough to get long-time players to invest hundreds of hours in the universe. The story of the campaign is less confused than in the original, but it’s not exactly good either. It went from painstakingly bad to ordinary, which is at least an improvement. Destiny 2 is the gaming equivalent of a Michael Bay movie.

Destiny 2 is one of the most enjoyable games I’ve played this year, and tackles one of the biggest issues with the first game. Featuring a stellar, albeit easy, single-player campaign, excellent combat and class mechanics, and the most enjoyable cooperative multiplayer I’ve seen in a shooter since Gears of War 4, Destiny 2 is a must-buy.
