Easily the best game that utilizes Kinect technology, Dance Central Spotlight is both excellent and a bit cumbersome as a rhythmic dance game. The promise of expansive DLC that will be available for $2 per track (unless special sales hit the DCS store) is great since you can customize the game soundtrack without paying $50 for a playlist that you may love/hate. Still, $2 a song is a bit steep since you're not getting much. There isn't quite enough DLC at launch to merit a purchase from myself, so the hope that the store explodes quickly is definitely in play for me. Expand

This game is not especially fun but I still enjoy it more than other methods of moderate/high intensity exercise, so I end up playing it a lot regardless.

This game is not especially fun but I still enjoy it more than other methods of moderate/high intensity exercise, so I end up playing it a lot regardless.

    The good:

    1. We can customize almost the entire library.

    2. There are multiple routines per song, giving us more choices if we love the song but don’t like the moves for some of the routines.

    3. The character I select becomes the default and stays that way until I change it, even after turning off the system.

    The bad:

    1. Many of the new dance moves are awkward and annoying to perform.

    2. We still have annoying moves that involve turning around in a circle. It’s not fair because it’s hard to master a move when I don’t see the screen part of the time.

    3. For practice mode, I want the ability to bulk select and practice only the moves I haven’t passed, as well as the ability to collect moves in it.

    4. I would like the ability to hide particular songs I own, like if I get tired of them, didn’t like them in the first place, or if my list of songs is getting too cluttered.

    5. I think the game should immediately open up to the list of songs I already have, without there being the current starting menu or featured songs getting in the way to the left.

    6. Fitness mode is almost pointless.

Modern, pretty and competent, but devoid of stupid fun and a soul. [Dec 2014, p.78]

Precision in the motion tracking is everything for a game like this, and it works most of the time. One of the best of its genre.

This is just about the dancing. [Issue#116, p.81]
