I think my high rating for this is because I got this game free on game pass. Great game for achievement hunters. Probably the most generic and middle of the road sandbox game you'll play this generation. This game does what many have done before and doesn't bring anything else to the table, so you may as well just dust off Crackdown 1 or 2, or something like Saints Row IV.

I really do not get all the hate towards this game. Sure there isn't anything particularly innovative going on here, and sure perhaps it does feel a little out of its time period. But god damn if Crackdown 3 isn't addicting as hell. The controls are tight and precise, the gun play is engaging enough, and the orb collecting is still a pleasing factor.

Now as far as story goes, there is not much here, but if you walk into this game and accept it for what it is ( a mindless platforming, orb collecting, super hero shooter) then I guarantee you will easily burn through 15 to 20 hours of Crackdown 3 with a smile on your face.

Again, Crackdown 3 is a bit of mixed bag in terms of innovation, but there is something niche about staying in your element...

You can play as characters who aren't Terry Crews if you're some kind of drooling idiot. Play this game if you know how to turn a sandbox into a rad experience. And when I say "rad," I mean it in the most ironically cool, 80s actionesque, explosiony way possible. No, this game doesn't have a particularly deep story or likable characters (Terry Crews actually seems to have been drained of some of his natural charisma in addition to his muscles), but it does have a uniquely stupid and entertaining open world to explore and destroy.
I can't say I'd recommend spending money to buy it. If you have game pass, check it out.

Honestly, it would deserve a solid 8. This game is the most authentic fun I've seen in recent years. First of all, it is a true Crackdown 1 sequel with all the cringing stuff removed: climbing is now really easier with an automated jumping move by holding L up and actual LEDGES ; and level farming is less time-consuming since it depends on what difficulty you're playing. Talking about that, going in on easy difficulty is a true walk in the park, but Legendary took me some serious time to get a hang of it. The game allows you to separate your agents progress from the different worlds (in different save slots for each) so you could easily go in normal for your first play through, then start another world on hard or legendary with your first agent and keep on leveling up his skills (for kills). You can go on Legendary directly with a brand new agent (as I did), but you'll have to be clever and plan your assaults strategically if you want to move forward, this clearly is the most challenging thing to do in this game and boy is it FUN. Collectibles (not orbs...) and races are done right and fun to collect. Orbs are numerous, yet you'll need to actively look for them if you want to get to the MAX level in agility ; when it comes to combat skills however, nothing too hard to deal with, as long as you keep on fighting and destructing and crushing and inflaming and electrocuting and BOOM anything that comes in your way. Graphics are amazing with their art style (and truly need a 4K HDR display) if you want to enjoy it the most. The Soundtrack is very enjoyable and fits perfectly with the environment. Only jumping and driving need a small amount of time getting used to it. Give this game a try if you own the Game Pass, honestly, you won't regret it if the game play fits your style, and you don't wan't to be bothered by some serious and long storytelling.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Created an account here just to talk about this game. Been a longtime Crackdown fan. Spend a crazy amount of time in the first two games. Especially getting those orbs. So naturally when I heard there would be a third game I was hyped. Didn't think they could screw it up. I was wrong.

Let's make it clear a lot of the core gameplay is still there. Not too much has changed with the mechanics. So on that end its good ol' Crackdown. Even the graphics have that same great visual style to them. And adding Terry Crews was perfect!

So what is this game a 3? Well the map is SUPER small. Though they managed to build buildings higher than before. But of course everything is just a empty shell you climb. With even more limitations then before with climbing. With the small map you are stuck with a game that can be beat within 6-8 hours. Now you may think "But there are side missions, orbs...etc to keep you busy!". While the orbs are still fun to get, after beating the game there is really no point to collect them since you are pretty much maxed out level wise. For example I could get the last level of Driving, but it doesn't really do anything of use now that the game is beaten. Also the "Destructible environment" only works online and as of when I played didn't seem to work.

The side missions are just boring repetitive tasks that are easy. Free prisoners by using a button. Grab some info from a tower using a button. Rare occasions destroy a convoy of cars. Do some silly challenges that are boring after the first few. When it comes to jumping your car through rings there is no "medium" in difficulty. They are either SUPER easy to get or crazy hard with the climbing/jumping car that controls like your drunk and blind. The tank you can get is just "meh" and it's so hard to get that you will of beaten the game by that time. Your cars also blow up too easily. The public cars you can get are useless, except for the ramp truck as always.

You can go around the map collecting DNA from other agents to play as. Which thankfully you can switch at any time. And each has a bonus like +10% XP driving and +5% XP agility. But really all the agents are the same with varied combos of +10% and +5%. And the sad thing is the only good character is Terry Crews character. He actually has audio that is fun to hear. Ironically if you pick another agent, all the cutscenes only show Terry's character instead. Taking you out of the moment.

The bosses were all essentially the same and no real strategy was needed to take them down. The weapons were either very crappy or really OP. I won't say all I used but the homing rocket is what you will end up using most of the time. The gadgets/grenades were nothing of interest either. But the grenade that gives you ammo or health was a nice edition (can't recall if it was in past games). The world itself may look like its alive but it's relatively barren except for cats and a few people here or there.

For how small the game is and how short it is, it's not worth the $60. Maybe $20 at most. Or like me you can play it free using Gamepass. Which makes me happy I didn't spend a dime on it. As much as I would like to see Crackdown 4 where they learn from their mistakes, I doubt that will happen. Though the game does hint of a "future" of the series.

This makes the original Crackdown feel like a tech demo or early access gameplay by comparison... all the ideas are fully realized and expanded on beautifully in CD3. The wealth of little touches here make everything so much more satisfying to do... such a perfect game for letting off some steam for a few minutes, whether through platforming for agility orbs or enjoying all the new weapons. But realistically I also find this game hard to put down. There are so many little elements to seek out in the world depending on what feels fun in the moment, and each gameplay system has received a complete upgrade.... which makes it hard to know where to start when writing a review. I am absolutely loving the slower progression which generally makes each skill tier increase feel rewarding, especially for agility! Agility now has movement capabilities that weren't possible in the first two games and which greatly enhance the experience of climbing towers or dashing between them during the long random engagements that hit squads facilitate. Using the quick maneuver thrusters when fighting shielded enemies or small flying drones makes the agent feel just as agile as they are tanky, especially once you can use the thrusters more than once. Been so enjoying the hitsquads, and just had a very uncommon firefight where small drones followed me up a tower and I dove through the air killing them with a shotgun, scaling balconies to the last one then just looking out at the beautiful city at night.
The first 45 minutes or even 2 hours of gameplay felt slow to me now that enemies will put up more of a fight than in 1 or 2, particularly in those first couple hours of gameplay. Treat your beginning character like a savvy insurgent rather than a human tank, because until you level up your firearms, explosives, or strength (for resiliency it seems) you you'll probably find yourself surprised at how much of a fight even the basic lackeys put up in the open city.

SUCH a welcome sequel! I must research what all the negative reviews are about at some point.

Taken for what it is, Crackdown 3 is a fairly generic open world shooter that tries very hard to be Saints Row 4 but is nowhere even close to that level of both gameplay and its humor based elements that come with it. For the game that was supposed to be the shot in the arm that the Xbox needed, this was a massive swing and a miss. It's a shame that the circumstances surrounding the release schedule put more undue pressure on a game that, frankly, was never meant to be the exclusive saving grace the system needs right now. There are some nice moments here and there. Terry Crews adds a fair amount of fun to the mix, but his presence, and his quips, severely drops the moment the opening cutscene ends. The fact that this is on gamepass doesn't do much for me either. If it was a better game, then that would be a big deal for me. In the end, there's not enough here to justify playing this game. If you really want to play a game like this, go play Saints Row 4. It's a better version of this style of open-world crazy type fun and it has much more personality and a few pieces of DLC already out for about the same price as a month of gamepass. Expand

An unpolished and often clunky game that still manages to pack enough fun to please most players. It's junk food in video game form, and if thats what you're looking for you could do worse.

This was my first experience with the Crackdown series.

Extremely disappointing lack of story, starts off with a nonsense cut scene that I assume was related to last game then really zero story or character development for the entire game and then it ends with another zero effort nonsense cut scene, the complete lack of story really make me wonder why this game took so long to come out.

It looks and plays well, shooting was good, guns were fun, arial maneuvering was good.

No destruction physics that was promised.

I don't usually notice audio in a game, it was extremely noticable in this game how badly the audio was mixed, I could barely make out any of the few bits of spoken dialog in the game and there was always a strong background bass thumping no matter what I did with the sound settings.

Game froze on me 4 times in the 8-9 hours I played, twice I had to restart the console, the other two times it sorted itself out after 4-5 seconds.

Not that Agents of Mayhem was a good game, but it's almost the exact same game but much much better.

This game deserves a 7 but I'm going to give it a 10 to even out all the low ball scores. This is nothing less than a 5. I've had a good time playing the campaign with my brother. Collecting the power obs and powering up is fun. The game is a bit shallow, but some of the most shallow girls I've dated have been some of my favorite.

There isn't much to say here. It's essentially a sci-fi, third person, Far Cry 4.

Climb towers, attack bases, fight a regional boss, repeat. That's all this game is. The gameplay is fun in its own arcadey kind of way, and none of the objectives or activities feel like a chore. But it's literally one massive loop of the same gameplay over and over again. It's utterly mind-numbing.

The only redeeming feature is that they managed to pull through on getting Terry Crews in the game. Beyond that, it's a visually bland, technically mediocre, creatively barren game. The story is nonexistent and you'll forget every character within five minutes of meeting or killing them.

Useful to kill a little time while you wait for a better game to install or update, but that's about it. Cannot recommend.

From a big fan of the first two Crackdown games on 360, the third game has provided hours of fun. Collecting agility orbs, levelling up and smashing goons up is just as addictive now as it was in 2007.

It doesn't revolutionise the genre, but does every single game have to do so? By the sounds of things the game was in development hell, stuck in the cloud-based-technology marketing hole

With the sheer lack of decent first party titles Microsoft has put out this generation, I'm happy to say we finally got one. Whilst it certainly doesn't one-up Sony's current offering on PS4 (having played and loved Horizon, Uncharted 4, GoW and Spider-Man all in the past 18 months), it's a good enough effort which seems to show they aren't down and out just yet.

Bonus points for the value of Microsoft's Game Pass deal - I played Crackdown 3 using my £1 month for which I cannot complain.

If you liked the original Crackdown games but are still skeptical, ignore the reviews and go try it for yourself. You will be surprised.

Who don't likes first two games 10 years ago, didn't like this one as well. But for the rest - it should be tried at least. Jokes, atmosphere in the game, all this sandbox... I really enjoy it! However this game feels so much more lackluster, less fun guns, less enjoyable grenades, the city design is eh at best. Not to mention THERE AREN'T ANY HELICOPTERS. That was one of the most ENJOYABLE vehicles in the entire game and it's not even there. Also sure they have more variety in enemies, but nothing felt more satisfying than to drive through HORDES of zombies and to watch them explode. This game however most enemies are either, soldiers and robots with varying weapons(rockets, smgs, snipers, etc) or bullet sponge enemies like the mech in the industrial area. It's also got this grindy kind of feel where you have to defeat this overlord but to do this you have to defeat his one or two minions, but to do that you also have to also do those minions small quests that can range from, taking down propaganda, to freeing militia. This all feels like nothing much was gained. I also don't enjoy the new leveling mechanic, where as in crackdown 2 the more strength you get the harder and further you can lob stuff, or the more agility you get you can start running up walls or jumping the size of buildings. This game its like meh have a slight increase in height jump and have some double-triple jumps oh also some air dashes. Literally nothing unique. Not to mention the fact not only can't you host games with randoms but you can only have 1 OTHER PLAYER. Where as in crackdown 2 you could have like at least up to 4 causing mass chaos in the game. It honestly pains me how much I wanted this game to deliver but it simply didn't. It just feels like a dumbed down worse version of Crackdown 2. However despite all these flaws it still is an okay game. Nothing much but it is okay. Also about the users, you have some people absolutely praising a game that doesn't deserve to be this praised, and others absolutely hating on this game unfairly. This is my cold hearted honest opinion about this game, and to show you how much I truly cared about this game, this is the only reason I made this account to begin with. Crackdown 3 is the first Crackdown game I ever played, and also my first new game of 2019, and after paying $60 for it... and I have no regrets. Crackdown 3 is a blast to play, and overall a great package, that said however, this game does have some serious issues that can't be glossed over, while the campaign is great, the multiplayer mode is seriously flawed.

    Pros:

*Despite common complaints that the game looks "dated", it actually looks pretty good. Obviously its not groundbreaking, and it can be better in some areas, but its not offensive, and overall pleasing to the eye. People are expecting Gears of War 4, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, God of War and/or Spider-Man realistic art-style, but its clear the game is going for a comic book art-style and uses cel-shading. "

*The amount of weapons available in the game is huge and varied, and pretty every one of them is fun to use. Very fun to experiment with.

*The game likes to spice combat up with a huge variety of enemy types to keep you on your toes. Whether it armed enforcers with shields, construction mechs or gunships, the game is constantly throwing new enemy types at you.

*New Providence, the island city/state you play in, is overall a great open-world location to explore. This neon corporate dystopia offers such locations as slums, quarries, construction sites, factories, city blocks, highways and towering skyscrapers to explore.

*Much like the old 3D collecthon platformers that used to dominated the Nintendo 64, Crackdown 3 features a huge of amount of collectable items. The key item you'll collect in Crackdown 3 is Orbs (although you earn some by simply racing, shooting, using explosives and physically assault foes).
The green Agility Orbs upgrade your agility, allowing you to run faster, jump higher, and upgrades your booster, while the blue Hidden Orbs upgrades all abilities. Collecting Orbs is extremely addicting, and you'll often waste countless hours hunting these down so you can evolve your character.

    Cons:

*While driving in the game normally is quite fun, driving in street races is absolutely awful. You have almost no room for error, and driving physics don't seem they made for sharp turns.

*The multiplayer mode, Wrecking Zone, is a mixed bag, and you shouldn't buy this game for the multiplayer mode. The actual destruction physics is impressive, although not as impressive at the Pre-Alpha footage we saw in 2015, and clearly had to be toned down to work at all. People do complain about the multiplayer featuring lock-on aim system, but this is a stupid complaint, as trying to hit fast-moving opponents in vertical oriented levels with a controller is actually quite difficult, hence why in this type of game, you need such a feature. The actual game modes and weapons available in the mode are good. The main problem with Wrecking Zone, outside of the notable downgrade, is its missing a lot of features and lacking content, such as ability to play with friends, only has 3 levels, game progression, etc. Unless they add content frequently like other multiplayer games, the online community won't last long.

Crackdown 3 has had its problems over the years in development and at one point almost didn't see the light of day. Thankfully they ended up finalizing the game and while it isn’t perfect I admit that in a way it was worth the wait because it we hadn't waited for it we would have had much less of a game to play than the final product turned out to be. It does offer you fun and enjoyable moments throughout. This fun and enjoyment is seen across the game because it features a story that’s interesting and Terry Crews well obviously remains funny and features a presentation that make it satisfying. Exploring the world then is always rewarding and with a decent amount of content included there always seems to be something to do. You will however have to deal with a few technical issues every now and then and the level design does lack in terms of variety, so expect things to get a little repetitive at times. Despite this the gameplay is fun and the combat has a ton of depth within it i.e. tackling enemies and blowing things up is exciting whether you play on your own or with a friend. I recommend that you play the game co-op instead of single player, because the gameplay is more unpredictable and exciting when played in this way. All in all Crackdown 3 has delivered what I expected it to deliver and that is a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously and it has a few issues I still recommend that you give this game a go and see what you think of it personally. Overall, It's worth the price of admission. Expand

The destructible environments are the only thing interesting or fun about this game. Yeah, blowing down a balcony with your rocket launcher is cool and fun, but even thats kind of screwed up. Remmber that awesome tech demo they did in 2015 where they showed a whole skyscraper being knocked down? Yeah you cant do that. Most of the buildings have indestructible beams inside them that make it so you just chunk away at the walls on it.

The shooting is some of the worst i've ever seen in a game. The frustratingly sticky auto-lock aiming they have is even worse thanks to the environmental destruction. You can dash behind a wall to escape your enemies but it doesnt matter since they just shoot right through them and keep locked on you no matter what. So the destructible environments end up being a detriment to the gunplay.

You get to choose from a whopping 9 guns and 2 equipment. 5 years of development and thats the best you can do??? What a joke.

The game is a clunky, ugly, and unfun slog that i cant recommend to anyone.

I wasn't expecting much, given all of the negative press. The thing is that I'm having a lot of fun with the game. The first 30 minutes were a bit slow, but after that it picks up. Graphics are last gen, the story is bland and boring, the cloud destruction isnt even as good as red faction guerrilla a 10 year old game running on xbox 360 hardware. What a waste of resouses and time by microsoft. I recommend moving over to a superior platform that support quality games such as Playstation 4.

A solid 7. Fun, not groundbreaking, but fun. Hopefully they will release some DLC that is more challenging. There has been some complaints about the lock on mechanic making the game too easy. It would be a really tough to get through the city on lockdown with out it. Hopefully there will be a Crackdown 4 with more of a challenge.

It's hard to critique a fun game, especially when fun is a necessary criterion of a good game. But when the same game was promoted with such a high technical bar to be released lacking a core mechanic, it feels disappointing. CD3 plays like Crackdown should. It's kinetic and over the top. But Microsoft promised us a fully destructible world and partially reneged on that promise. What is left is a sequel to the first Crackdown (where CD2 barely registered as a DLC-worthy expansion of CD1). That said it's a VERY good sequel. I'm having fun barreling through the game. That counts for most of my positive score, the rest comes from a diverse smattering of tasks that works well enough, rewarding exploration, and the addition of a second narrator, an tragically overlooked positive in this game.

Multiplayer is where Microsoft kept their destructive promise... and failed to capitalize on MP design principles that have revitalized MP over the last five to seven years. The MP portion plays like a highly kinetic deathmatch where maneuvering and picking the "right" cover matters, but it fails to build on the advancement metagame that has become the bread-and-butter of multiplayer. Good news is if you don't have the time to dedicate to grinding out a useful character, you can still jump in with any weapons you want and have fun. Arguably, the hardcore player will burn out of this MP mode quickly, but the average gamer will spend about much time in MP as they would in any other game before moving on.

And that brings me to how this game is getting rated and released. This is a casual game when all is said and done. It's fun for people who want to have fun. It will be an annoying flash in the pan for today's esports obsessed pro-gamer wannabe. There's room for all at the table, but maybe this is a game that doesn't need to be taken as anything more than what it is.

As a result of all this schizophrenic confusion, Crackdown 3 WOULD be relegated to the bargain bin, and a great bargain it would be... that is, if digital distribution weren't such a pervasive factor in this particular game's distribution. This is the perfect Game Pass fodder and it adds so much value to that proposition when you aren't paying $60 for a single. In short, it's a reason to AT LEAST try Xbox Game Pass if you have a free trial. If you're already subscribed, it just became a no-brainer. Play it. If you have to pay $60 for it, I recommend it for fans of past Crackdown games or people who just like free-roaming over-the-top sandboxes. This game is so polarizing because of this conflict, in my opinion.

In conclusion, CD3 plays tug-of-war with innovation and convention. Where it innovates, it fails to capitalize on contemporary design. When it nails the fundamentals, it doesn't realize the promises of it's emergent ambitions. In the middle is a solid game, not one worthy of the weight that Microsoft yoked it with, but worthy of your time.

And not worthy of your zeroes.

I will add a caveat that I played the Xbox One S and PC versions and found the PC version with a sufficiently powerful PC to be superior. The game is available on Play Anywhere so you should try it too.

Graphics is where it takes it’s first major hit althoughbright and vibrant colors are used the rest of the game unfortunately also feels like it was ripped straight from crackdown one and doesn’t make this game feel like it was released in 2019. The gameplay here is typical crackdown fair using meow attacks and throwing objects builds strength collecting green orbs boosts agility, explosives boost explosives, shooting levels up your fire arms skill. Combat is simple LT auto locks on to target shoot until dead or throw objects/melee never more complicated than that. Driving mechanics are very poorly implemented cars handling is wonky there’s no real damage on vehicles other than them exploding. In my 100% playthrough I did encounter a few bugs/glitches some of the missions have enemies that are required to kill and during a few of these I had enemies fall through floor and become unkillable forcing a reboot of the whole game also had issues toward the end with audio getting choppy and all sfx cutting out and the last boss of the game disappearing upon dying and returning to the location forcing me to lose an hour trying to figure out how to make it respawn. All in all the game is ok for gamepass but definitely not for a full triple A game price tag it is worrying that this was a big time exclusive that for all purposes missed its mark. The multiplayer mode doesn’t tout the structure damage as seen leading up to releas and looks more like legos falling apart and the gameplay itself devolves itself in to nothing more than auto locking and burst firing your opponents down. The multiplayer I would rate a 2/10 it’s functional but nothing more. Expand

My 20 plus hours with Crackdown 3 were filled with a sense of fun and satisfaction and I found a smile on my face that I haven’t enjoyed I played Spider-man and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

Crackdown 3 has one foot in last generation and one foot trying to stand in an ever changing current generation of games. But the visual quality and you just can’t understate overall fun factor in its gameplay, pushes an average game, which is still good, closer to a great game. The anticipation for Crackdown keeps expectations right where they belong. This is not a game for everybody, but everybody should give this game a try.

If you like Just Cause, you will likely like Crackdown (and it hasn't crashed yet, so that's better than Just Cause in my opinion). No, you won't be flying in a wingsuit, but the map isn't big enough to justify flight, and grinding out the paltry number of levels you need to reach max rank isn't bad. Gameplay is smooth, each of the encounters is unique and fun, even if some of the actions you need to do at the encounters is relatively similar. People who **** about the art style likely hate Legend of Zelda: Windwaker, too, so take that for what it's worth.

BUT WHEN YOU HIT MAX RANK, THE FUN STARTS. For example, the Explosives group gets a hidden perk called Apocalypse that freaking blows up EVERYTHING and REGENS EXPLOSIVE AMMO. Your melee? Becomes an explosive punch that takes out TANKS. Your jump? Well, now you can essentially fly.

It's hilarious, it's dumb, it's AWESOME. Terry Crews also says a ton of hilarious lines at each of the propaganda towers or when just jumping around, so when the reviewers complain that he doesn't have a lot of lines, I don't know what they are smoking.

It's a solid game, I recommend it if you want to shoot the **** and hear some hilariously over-the-top lines.
