Battlefield 1 is one of EA’s and DICE’s best games if not the best game that they have ever made. It’s an amazing mix of graphics and addictiveness for the players, a range of many different things in the game give it a long lasting effect making you want to try out everything inside the game.
There are many things in Battlefield 1 that give the players a huge amount of options on how, who and what they want to play with or what they want to play full stop. The game modes available are: conquest, rush, war pigeons, team death match, domination, operations and campaign of course. Conquest is a large team battle over huge maps of which vary widely with the terrains. In this game the teams will fight to gain control of the flags whilst killing each other and gaining points from killing the other team and then depending on how many flags your team has your score will slowly go up or quickly go up due to the ownership of the flags. The campaign of the game is an excellent re-enactment of the great war, yes it is a little over exaggerated with all of the shooting and drama but people who play first person shooters don’t normally want to be jut educated, they want to be thrilled with what they’re playing and maybe have a little bit of learning on the way. Battlefield 1 gives the perfect mix between shooting and the experience itself, as soon as you start the story of the game you’ll want to go into the next stories and I’m very sure of that, they are exhilarating and very dramatic making you infused into the game making your own decisions over the large map of which you play in.
The content of the multiplayer is absolutely amazing, there are tons of different weapons to unlock and tons of weapons to play around with and loads of different pieces of gear to create your very own class from, you can switch to planes and to tanks and to trains and boats and even a zeppelin, there are mounted turrets in places on the maps leaving hidden but powerful siege areas, the teams are well balanced and the mix of different classes between the huge teams makes the game even harder but at the same time so much better as it’s not too challenging but it’s definitely not too easy.
The price of the game is now around 30-25 pounds which isn’t bad at all, its starting price was around 55-60 which for the game itself and new was still a very reasonable price. It has a range of everything and it is all built to perfection and that’s one of the only problems with the game, on Xbox 1 it runs great with a good or great Wi-Fi but if yours isn’t great or good then its likely to lag or glitch a little when in game, when on PC there’s a large problem if you don’t have a very good PC because the game has pretty much no chance of running… at all. I suggest that if you would like this game you either need an Xbox 1 or a very good PC.
The graphics of the game are insanely good and the huge maps look stunning with all of the visual effects, the sounds are amazing and set with obvious perfection into all of the correct guns and gear and the correct places, it could be real if it wasn’t inside a screen, the game itself is visually stunning and that’s an understatement!
In conclusion I would highly recommend that you get this game if you like first person shooters because it’s a whole new experience for any player!

Not the true War but still very fun. Maybe some regrets for customization. But still better than Call Of Duty for me. Big maps, Nice graphics. A very good game. But the story mode sux.

This is one of the most enjoyable shooters I have ever played, the quantity of guns is only a sign of how much work is behind, everyone feels different. My only issue is DICE idea of making DLCs, don't take me wrong they are great expansions but it's just a bad decision. Although it's a great game.

    - Fantastic reborn from this series, I don't see any problem with this one except a short single-player story and of course typical EA games glitches :)

My score is mainly for the multiplayer, which is fantastic. The campaign -- though it is surprisingly good considering that it is Battlefield we're talking about -- is not the main point of the game. The main point is that the multiplayer, Battlefields "badge of honour", is a remarkably fun and competitive experience set over countless beautiful and exciting maps which take place in different theatres of "the great war". I'm not a big fan of multiplayer generally, but Battlefield 1 was an exception for me. When it comes to competitive FPS titles, I'm just left with one question regarding this game: what more can you ask for? Expand

A truly immersive and cinematic multiplayer gaming experience. Battlefield´s all out, large scale war really brings out all the potential of multiplayer gaming. Even for a gamer like myself who generally prefers single player games over multiplayer ones. I still found myself hooked to this game for a long time. Battlefield 1´s amazing DLC maps certainly extended the games longevity.

I guess it makes the most sense for me to finally review this now, especially given that "Battlefield V" was just announced. I'll be the first to admit that I hadn't played a "Battlefield" game prior to this one. Sure, some of them looked cool, but for the most part, I never had a huge amount of interest in the series. Recently, however, after hearing way too many positive things about "Battlefield 1," morbid curiosity got the best of me and I wanted to give it a shot. As it turned out, I ended up really enjoying myself!
Taking things to World War 1 was a welcome reprieve from all the "futuristic" shooters in 2016, and fortunately, "Battlefield 1" sticks the landing! It's a surprisingly cinematic shooter: the game's single-player "War Stories" campaign will have you doing a good amount of watching alongside your playing, but admittedly, I did find the game's characters to be rather compelling and interesting, and the stories to be rather emotional. The fast-paced gunplay is also amazing, the visuals are top-notch, and I find the return to World War 1 compelling in the aspect that it takes things back a technological notch: no longer are you spoiled with the greatest weapons of all time with crazy attachments, instead you have to work within the constraints of what was available at the time. It's an interesting idea that's executed very well, and it adds a layer of realism to the game.
It's not quite a "perfect" game for me: I wish that the single-player campaign (or "War Stories," if you will) was just a little bit longer (especially in regards to gameplay, since I mentioned that you do quite a bit of watching), and I do think some of the vehicle sections feel a little bit uninspired, but otherwise, "Battlefield 1" is a successful World War 1 shooters, and it gets me pretty excited to see what EA will offer when "Battlefield V" releases later this year.

Battlefield 1 is a beautiful game graphically which is nicely juxtaposed by the chaos that ensues around your character as you play multiplayer and even the campaign. The game play itself is wellBattlefield 1 is a beautiful game graphically which is nicely juxtaposed by the chaos that ensues around your character as you play multiplayer and even the campaign. It's crazy to think the craters around you from artillery, the debris from buildings crashing down, and much more are from other human players and not just the game trying to make it seem chaotic. The game play itself is well balanced with each class having a specific role to play in the battle to come. This allows the player to find the class that best suits their playstyle to not only enjoy the game more, but to also help their team and the objectives they are trying to capture or defend. Additionally, several weapons in the game must be unlocked by leveling up or using specific weapons. Some may find this annoying or tedious; however, the satisfaction of unlocking a new weapon after performing certain tasks related to the class you're playing as is more than worth it. Compared to Call of Duty this is actually better suited for you as a gamer as in Call of Duty you may unlock a gun from leveling up that you don't really want to use or could care less about. In Battlefield 1 though, the requirements to unlock a specific weapon or variant are laid out clearly and you can focus on the gun(s) you want to unlock rather than ones you don't really want. While on the comparison between the two games, you can actually unlock several weapons before leveling up rather than just one per level giving the progression of multiplayer in Battlefield 1 a quicker sense of pace. The vehicles are fun to use whether or not your the pilot/tanker or just a passenger and in the confines of WWI seem truly powerful in the right hands. At the same time, it's a fun game of cat and mouse trying to destroy these awesome machines which adds not just fun, but satisfaction when you finally pull off the killing blow.

In some of the game modes, the losing team will get a Behemoth or other advantage to help turn the game in their favor. Occasionally, this works for the team, but more often than not it is too late for it to be of any real help. It is a nice event that occurs though as it gives players who may be pessimistic about the game a ray of hope that reinvigorates them.

The campaign is very fun and the stories it tells are captivating. Each one has specific challenges to complete as well which adds another layer to these stories and increases replayability. The one downside to the campaign are the few levels where you play essentially a stealth game, which seems out of place in an FPS focused around so much mass destruction and chaos. These levels normally slow down the stories you're playing through taking away the excitement and replacing it with stress as you attempt to maneuver around enemies and take them out without being seen or else you'll have to survive a gunfight where the numbers are not in your favor.

In the game, you can unlock codex entries from either completing challenges in the campaign or by completing certain objectives which again (and I know I've said this many times) is satisfying upon getting them unlocked. These codex entries allow the player to learn more about WW1 and are quite interesting to read. I wish more games would do a similar thing.

The reason this game gets a 9 out of 10, and not a perfect 10 are for two reasons though. One I've already addressed, although is not as big of a deal, and that would be the stealth missions in some of the campaign levels. The second has to do with multiplayer and I was saving this for the end:
the balancing of multiplayer games is downright pitiful. Most games I've played with the exception of some Operations game modes, are one time steamrolling over the other.

I've had this game for a while and I loved the single player campaign, I went online after having the game for months just sitting there. Now I know why I haven't played that mode much...its extremely frustrating! if you are not into sniping don't play this game! you will not get as many kills as these vets on here, and I don't care how long you try and play to get better you will continue to feel frustrated....
for 1.. I do love the map sizes and everything but they made it so you cant see an enemy standing right in front of you; basically bcus the enemy matches the landscape and everybody and their mother wants to snipe...me being an avid COD player I'm kinda use to run and gun w/ a lil sniping from time 2 time .. this game forces you to duck and hide especially if your a noob

2.. being that everyone is sniping from FARRRRR distances youre going to die countless times from ppl that you never seen, thats not really fun, and then sometimes it feels like I'm shooting and shooting and shooting getting hits only for the person be able to turn right around and kill me with one or two shots! VERY FRUSTRATING!

One time i was tracking this guy with my COD skills got him in a corner, ran up on him and knifed him BUT bcus he was ducking in the corner I missed him and he shot me and I died! smh I found that disgustingly bad! I don't care how much of a noob I am, THAT WAS A KILL! I mean I do play fps games

Its just too many times where I felt over matched or as if I couldn't hit the side of a barnyard with any gun I had for the match.. Run right up on a dude thats not looking I still have to stop and aim bcus I cant get a clear shot, and in those valuable seconds doing that I usually get sniped by someone that seen me from wayyyyyyyyy across the map... I'm trying to like this game but multiplayer is making it hard 2 enjoy some kills, its forcing me to go back and play COD (AW) while I love the realism of this game, and thats what keeps me coming back... I hate jetpacks and stuff so thats what drew me back to this game after playing the campaign, but I think I'm ready to go back to my jetpacks now

The graphics on Xbox are among the best available, and the sound is perhaps the best in any game I have ever played. There's just something deeply satisfying about the chatter of machinegun fire, the deep booms of field artillery, and the roar of a biplane flying overhead. It's all lovingly crafted. The campaign, though short and choppy, is quite good. It provides a series of vignettes of different aspects of the war. Multiplayer is varied and chaotic, but in a good way.

CONS: Now, that is not to say that the game is perfect. The campaign is very short; most players will complete all six vignettes in under 10 hours easily. Even the multiplayer doesn't have nearly the amount of maps that would make it truly exemplary. Some simple game mechanics, such as upgrading and unlocking equipment for your multiplayer character, or just what the components of a single-player challenge are, are left totally to the player's devices. They are never explained in any meaningful way. On the whole, it appears that DICE emphasized quality over quantity when designing this game, and that's not inherently bad, but the lack of content does become apparent after 10-20 hours of playtime.

The biggest flaw in the game, I believe, comes in design. There are just some very bizarre choices in many places, which don't necessarily detract from the experience, but are still head-scratching nonetheless. Namely:

    - The game goes to great lengths to portray the Great War as a World War, but they forego most of the truly global aspects of the war. All of the campaign episodes and MP maps are located in Europe and the Mediterranean region.

    - The war began in August 1914. You wouldn't know this from the campaign or MP scenarios. The earliest campaign available chronologically is the Gallipoli mission, set in spring 1915. Four of the six campaign missions and more than half of the Operations in MP are set in 1918. There were a number of scenarios that could have been set in the early war period from 1914-1916, but they aren't there.

    - Did you know that France and Russia fought in World War I? You wouldn't by playing this game. This is just ridiculous, especially when you consider that France and Russia lost between 3 and 5 million men killed between them! There were numerous scenarios available to the developers to highlight French and Russian contributions to the war. The French are begging for a Verdun scenario, and Russians could have been shown in a Brusilov Offensive campaign mission. But instead, they might as well be invisible. In contrast, the United States is highlighted in fully one-third of the campaign missions, and the U.S. lost 100,000 men killed in the war.

This laughable omission will be rectified in DLC, I would hope, but to pay additional $ for the inclusion of nations so central to the war is kind of a slap in the face.

For those reasons, it gets an 8/10 from me. Shooter fans will enjoy it, while history fans will be conflicted.

I cannot count how many times I've emptied an entire clip into someone and they didn't die. My very first death on the game came from this one dude I was about to shoot in the back with my sniper rifle (on Scout) and I was about 20 feet behind him. I got a good shot on him and hit him clean in the back (with a sniper from 20 feet away) and he proceeded to just sprint around a corner and then killed me after. To which my friend, who was watching, chuckled incredulously, and said "They weren't wearing body armour in World War One". You cant run-and-gun in this game either, as you can in COD, because there are always enemies lying in the most inconspicuous spots, perfectly camouflaged, ambushing everyone, and also because people seem to have unlocked weapons that just drop you instantly. More often than not, I see an enemy, unload my clip into them, and as I'm shooting them they just decide to instant-melt me with their beast gun. Generally, the best way to play Battlefield 1 and maintain a reasonable KD is with a sniper, observing from far away and then changing location after you've killed a few people, which for me, is boring. Battlefield 1 which dawns on the combat of “The Great War”or commonly known as World War 1.EA Dice discovered a fresh game design with the new genre of gameplay compared the past future or modern shooters in the past 10 years.

The Game developers have found a new and fun way to play with an extensive campaign featuring 6 war stories that show each theatre of combat in the 1914-18 war.The stories including 5-6 missions showing many ways to play so the player feels they are in a free world,Sneaking through a German encampment to find mechanical parts for your tank ‘Bess’ or playing as a volounteerl in the Italian Arditi (“The Daring Ones”) fighting up the mountains against the Austro-Hungarian forces in a full armor suit composed of steel.

On the other side the new 40-64 player multiplayer showing off the new “Operations” gamemode has completely blown players away.Drawing on all aspects of the war Operations provides you with the use of Armored Cars,Tanks including the A7V Heavy Tank help you capture the objectives and take the sectors to win the game. With the huge array of vehicles let’s talk about what you get if you don’t spawn in one.Players have a choice of 4 classes to choose from.Assault which utilizes sub-machine guns and explosives,Medic with mid ranged rifles and med packs,Support shows off LMGs and ammo crates and Scout utilizes the snipers and flares to spot enemies. If you decide to rank one of these classes up to rank 10 you’re rewarded with a rank 10 weapon including the Hellriegel,Selbstlater 1906,Huot Automatic, and the Martini-Henry.The impressive amount of weapons adds a lot of variety and fluid gameplay to lead your team to victory.

EA Dice. The developer of the Battlefield franchise uses the Frostbite engine to add the almost realistic graphics to make you feel like your are in the game.Battlefield’s gameplay is the most action packed and flowing battlefield game I’ve ever played since I started playing with Battlefield:Bad Company 2.Even though the game has a lot of positive things going for it there are quite a few bad things that can happen. For instance, sometimes when you spawn in your screen will be all black and you can only see your teammates icons, objective icons and spotted enemies.Another is sometimes you’ll lag out of place and end up falling out of the map or if your trying to destroy an enemy tank your explosives won’t do anything.

I received Battlefield 1 for my birthday and ever since I’ve only dealt with the bugs and glitches a few times and everything else has been amazing. The game is quite pricey at $60 but it’s worth it .I'm already level 54 and even though it takes longer to level up it becomes more exciting the longer you play to try and level up.Anyways my review on this game is mostly positive but if you want a fully detailed experience i recommend getting the game for yourself.

The best game in the Battlefield series so far. No game has ever gone this far and deep into World War 1. With a good story mode, a HUGE variety of weapons, and enough info to make a History Geek like myself absolutely love this game! Amazing weapons, maps, vehicles, and game modes. This lives up to the Battlefield franchise. 10/10

As a life long Battlefield player and fan, this is the worst installment yet. It feels like DICE is trying too hard these days to be artistic, putting setting, story and visuals over actual gameplay and player experience.

Forcing me to go through the opening battle, showing me the names of real soldiers that died, might be aimed to tug on my emotions, but it interrupts my gameplay experience and teaches me nothing about the game.

The single player missions are interrupted by characters telling their story (while I am shooting germans), which either makes me miss action on screen or the action on screen makes me miss out on the story.

It's all wrapped in a nice cover, with the world map to select what I want to play, but it feels disorganized and sketchy.

When it comes to actual gameplay, BF1 is just a shambles. The AI and scripting is beyond bad (having 6 AI enemies come around a corner, almost falling over each other is neither realistic nor gamey, it's just **** The AI often stands around doing nothing, then realizing they need to do something, spin 180 degrees and fire wildly or toss a grenade. The incredible overuse of flamethrower enemies is laughable, specially since you seem to hit their fuel tank with every shot.

Weapons feel lackluster and dull. Audio and VFX feedback is a shadow of what it was with other BF titles or other games out there. Overall the game just feels beyond slow, including vehicles and movement in general.

This year we have been spoiled with great shooters. Doom, Gears 4, Titanfall 2 - BF1 feels like the weakest of the lot so far.

It has the usual BF1 multiplayer, which in theory should be fun, but with the shooting and game mechanics of this installment, it fails to grab me.

It's interesting that most of the reviewers praising this game seem to focus on visuals and setting. If they would focus on actual gameplay, I doubt they would score the game as high.

It's an interesting concept, but if you really want a good shooter experience get Titanfall 2 now and BF1 later when it's cheaper.

It's a welcome departure from the trend of modern high-tech, cartoony, or sci fi shooters that have dominated the FPS over the last few years. Developer DICE took a chance on going against the grain, delivering a much needed breath of fresh air to the franchise and genre itself. It's no surprise to me the game is a blast to play, with its gritty realism, cooperative play, and classy presentation.

Matches are based around large scale maps that encourage team play and creativity, with a wealth of weapons, vehicles, aircraft, and stationary emplacements that allow your team to tackle objectives with tons of options at your disposal. Being a team based game, your experience will largely hinge on how well your squad, consisting of five members, are able to communicate (via mic or through in game objective orders). A team that stays focused and works together can be formidable and change the tide, but there are still plenty of options for lone wolfs who want to snipe, pilot a single seat aircraft or tank, etc.

In terms of graphics and sound, the game has no rival currently, especially when considering the huge scale of the environments that accommodate up to 64 players. The maps are stunning, diverse, and dynamic, with weather conditions changing throughout each map. No two battles on the same map ever play identically, and you are sure to walk away from each match with lots of "that was amazing" kind of moments. I hope BF1 inspires other devs to take risks in providing new experiences for players, even if it means going back in time. With games like COD losing its identity trying to be all things to all people, its nice seeing a focused game with its own identity and emphasis on skill and team work show the industry how it's done and what mature players really want. I can't stop playing and thinking about BF1, so this is a perfect score for me. It's that good.

Battlefield 1... it's a game with a lot of hype behind it, especially with the leap to a WW1 setting in the game. So naturally, I had high expectations.

Come release, and the game is fun and looks absolutely amazing. The graphics are amongst the best I've ever seen, the sound tracks and the sound effects are fantastic, the general amount of balls DICE had to make the game and most importantly, the legacy this game leaves behind.

However, whilst the actual gameplay is decent enough... I have to admit I'm disappointed.

The rest of the game is actually pretty mediocre, and frankly, I find BF3 and even BF4 superior.

The gameplay feels clunky and the guns feel pretty damn horrible, sure, it's WW1 but you could have done a better job there. There is nothing new added to the table, even the new Operations mode, at it's basic core, is basically conquest applied to a rush map which happens to take place over multiple maps.

The customisation, is frankly for a Battlefield game, pathetic. There are so few weapons for each class, you may say otherwise with the bigger lists, but nope, that's because you have THREE OF THE SAME WEAPON. It just happens they are patterns of weapons with certain attachments. This effectively kills any degree of customisation, the only worthwhile thing to adjust is the zoom of your sights/scopes. Everything else in terms of weapon's customisation is frankly unnecessary. The inconsistent Warbond system, AKA, the Battlefield version of Reach's credits and Titanfall 2's merits systems, sucks balls, further making things worse.

The long level up times, lack of customisation and rewards and long winded warbounds mean there is a major feeling of no to little progression at all, making me feel like I've already seen the entire game compared to BF3, which lasted far, far longer.

The vehicle customisation is just idiotic, having to select the vehicle spawn and press a button IN THE MIDDLE OF A MATCH just to customise it is idiotic.

Speaking of vehicles, no one ever uses the Landship (Mark V tank), the FT-17 is hardly used, and everyone just uses the damn A7V. Probably because everyone wants to just use the big gun AND drive the tank at the same time. It's a shame because I love driving the Landship only to find players that are too impatient to stay in the sponson guns and no one actually just gets in. Vehicle gameplay is just bad.

The new Behemoth units can be powerful, but only with reliable teammates, otherwise they die in a matter of seconds to AA guns in the case of the airship, annoying Torpedo Boats (only used for that purpose and getting your backside to the otherside of the map) in the case of the Dreadnaught, and most tragically, the Armored Train dies to everyone using their favourite pieces of equipment! AT Grenades and AT Rocket Guns!

The War Stories, the new campaign mini stories, whilst a nice idea, are actually underwhelming, with needless stealth sections in places and poor stories. With only the compulsory and the first one being any good.

What's tragic is that you will probably have to pay for DLC to make the game more interesting and better, which sucks a lot.

Putting the bad aside, the best thing about the game is the legacy it will have, revitalising interest in WW1, especially as it starts moving out of living memory into the pages of history.

So, the game's graphics, sound design, the developers coconut balls and the legacy this game has is beyond flawless, and deserves 11 out of 10. However, the rest of the game is a mess. The gameplay feels sloppy, the War Stories are underwhelming, the vehicles are bad, their is a lack of innovation, a TERRIBLE LACK OF CUSTOMISATION AND PROGRESSION, and some frankly stupid design decisions put into the game. The result is a game which comes as a major disappointment. I can judge a game surely on good looks alone when it's actually a bit of a pain in the backside.

In fact, it annoys me when people say it's one of the best games ever, that couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, all the praise the game gets? BF1 doesn't deserve ANYWHERE NEAR the amount of praise it's getting now.

Hence, I have to give it an average rating of 5/10. It's alright, but it's got some bad issues in the design and it's disappointing.

First thing the graphics are amazing for the game and the way that tanks, aircrafts, blimps and even just the way simple guns work makes the game feel so immersive and you feel like your actually in that war online. The main reason i got the game was for the single player and ill say that it was amazing and fun to play the best one being the Gallipoli campaign. The only cons to the story was that it was to short and we didn't get to stay with the different characters for that long to connect with them when the emotional moments happened that were suppose to make you sad didn't really affect me much as like i said i didn't spend as much time with the characters as i would of liked.
Anyway overall good game with a 9/10

My one and only complaint is the multiplayer load times. It takes FOREVER to load. You could cook some goulash, take a bath using your favorite bath bomb, read a Harry Potter book, play with yourself and still have time to run a 5k before the map loads or game starts or matchmaking is done.

the story of all the war stories was excellent
some off the characters where actual war hero's in ww1
your ai buddy's can actually kill enemy's for once finally
the only bad things was one crash on war story no 5 when I killed 2 flame frower guys at once
and 1 time I got stuck on a tank in war story no 1 and had to restart from checkpoint and only lost like 15 seconds of progress
and the fact that all five war stories are only 4 5 to 6 hours long:(
    multiplayer
overall it is a fantastic experience
the attack planes are way better in bf 1 than the jets in bf 3 and bf4 since they are way easier to learn and a lot more fun for people who couldn't even drive the jets in bf 3 and bf4 and lets face it that was most of the fans
the blimp armored train and the battle ship do make the matches a lot more interesting since their only given to the losing team however because off this I don't think their will be an e sports for this game thought but its a positive still for 99% of the fans
the tanks are now at least a 2 man job to destroy one unless its the light tank which I think was a good change
the land ship and heavy tank take team work to be a menace to deal with on the battlefield and the artillery truck being a menace to deal with at long range and the light tank being a fun tank to use if your playing by yourself I personally find the artillery truck is the best one on most maps
the gun play is fantastic the kill times are slower in this game then in previous titles which dose make sense because of the slower rate of fire of the weapons In ww1 you will find you will win more gun fights in bf1 based on skill and having the numbers in a gun fight then just having a better rate of fire weapon then the other guy your trying to kill which is a good change of pace
overall I thing this game will be the best battlefield game to play for 90% of the fans however thought I think the more compeative fans will like bf 3 and bf4 better

The most annoying and glaring flaw to me about the singleplayer is that, unlike the crowded multiplayer matches that are full of mayhem, the singleplayer is a little dull and empty even in its most challenging and grueling moments. For example, if you stealthily enter a desert village with roaming Nazi forces hunting you, there’s a grand total of maybe ten enemies in one large map (before they call for reinforcements) and virtually none of them will ever be inside of the sprawling buildings which, oh by the way, are all open to entry. So on one hand I like the ability to enter every fully detailed and realized environment, however on the other I wish the story felt as lifelike as the multiplayer does.

Concept: Enter the Great War and the world of total warfare within the confines of World War I including Battlefield’s classic destructibility and over the top arsenal.

Graphics: There are moments when it falters, however the lighting, environments, and weather effects are some of the best in gaming and certainly the best I’ve yet to see in any shooter save for possibly Uncharted 4.

Sound: The soundtrack is a perfect mix of battlefield sounds, the cries of your wounded compatriots and enemies alike, whistling of mortar shells overhead, hiss of mustard gas, and orchestral takes on the classic Battlefield themes.

Playability: The controls are much the same as they’re likely to ever be and that’s not a bad thing considering they are very intuitive and react accordingly.

Entertainment: I’ll admit, I thought it might slow things down a bit to be behind the wheel of a dusty old war machine, however this iron giant moves at virtually the same pace as any modern shooter and is doubly entertaining it seems.

    Replay Value: Very High.

    Overall Score: 8.5

Looking first at the campaign, I have not finished it yet however from what I a have seen and played I enjoy it. The gameplay is fun, not fairly repetitive and interesting. I would say though that the individual few mission stories make it difficult to get into each story and become attached to any of the somewhat forgettable characters.

Looking next at the Multiplayer I give top marks. The new operations mode is incredible and allows you to really enjoy 32 v 32 combat with a true world war one feel. It truly blew me away how well they captured the grit of world war one as described by my history textbooks. Trench combat feels intense and fun, planes feel hectic, Tanks feel less overpowered than they were in the first World War. Some maps seriously limit vehicles as well which is quite fun. If you are looking for Battlefield 4 this game is not that, it captures World War one accurately and Battlefield 4 captures modern combat well, and it should be obvious those two are extremely different. On some negatives, horse combat feels a bit clunky and the lack of a first person horse mode disappointed me. Also, I feel for first person shooters as a whole need more modes and maps. Those are small things and this multiplayer is very fun.

My final thoughts are this game is worth its money and I would recommend it to any of my FPS fan friends. In my mind Battlefield still has the best console FPS multiplayer on the market, the campaign is improving but still has some work to do. Personally, I think the console line up is fairly weak this year which makes this a candidate for my game of the year title.

    Campaign-6.5/10
    Multiplayer-8.5/10
    Gameplay-10/10
    Overall-8.4/10

A Decent Single Player with an Amazing Multiplayer
Battlefield 1’s campaign tells the story of 6 different characters during the First World War...
Each of the 6 chapters take place in different places of the world, and they all feel unique from one another….
You’ll take to the ground, air, and shadows…
You’ll be a tank searching for a friend… you’ll drive a tank trying to take control of the land, take to the sky as a gambler with a hint that maybe things didn’t happen the way he says it did, stealth through areas as a woman trying to sabotage war plans and destroy an armored train, and an Australian runner slicing through the trenches…
The campaign in total will take about 5 an a half hours long to complete give or take, all depending on how often you die..
And you will... a lot, as this game is brutal even on its normal difficulty…
If you’re an aggressive players, you’re not going to do too well in all but 1 chapter as you can only take about 3 hits and you’re dead… and the checkpoints can be complete garbage at time...
Especially considering how large locations are…
For the most part, this isn’t just a run and gun linear shooter… when you touch ground you’re on a massive battlefield crawling with enemies…
You have the choice to mark them all from a vantage point... sneak around them all with distractions or just avoiding them, sneak behind them for a quiet melee… get involved in a gun fight, the option for the most part is up to you, but there are many sections that force you to clear the area of enemies..
Gunplay in this game can be pretty frustrating as again... 3 shots and you’re dead…
all cover can be destroyed including houses, you do regenerate health, but it feels like an eternity before it will start, and hit detection in this game is far from perfect…
Keep in mind I’m talking single player here.. Meaning internet connection isn’t at fault...
Many times my bullets would go right through enemies doing no damage at all…
But I only found this to be the case in single player, no noticeable problems in multiplayer...
There are also annoying enemy variants like flamethrower guys and heavy armor guys who are invulnerable to bullets…
You can kill the heavy with a grenade, but the flamethrower guy is invulnerable against bullets and grenades... he can only be killed by shooting his tank…
Which you’d think a grenade would be fine for this, but no.. it’s not… really breaking immersion throwing in video gamey enemies like this when everything else feels so real…
The camera would also get a little awkward when I would try to run and find cover, which is a real frustration when you’re taking part in a section of the chapter with tanks or the armored train…
Especially since again, the checkpoints are so unforgiving and they can all instakill your character…
These sections take time.. A lot of time… and patience... as well as a handful of other stealthy sections that can sometimes feel like they’re plucked out of a hitman game with their punishment for detection…
These levels are absolutely gorgeous though, and I cared about all 6 characters during my brief time with them…
The single player gameplay just unfortunately lacks a hint of polish which stops the campaign from ever wowing me…
What did wow me however was the multiplayer…
The maps are well designed.. The mayhem of zeppelins, tanks, horses, and airplanes is almost magic…
You never really think of perspective in multiplayer games... people are usually for the most part doing the same thing as you, but better or worse…
A bunch of chickens running around with their heads cut off…
Here however, it’s such a great feeling to sit back and realize that everything you see going on, is another person having an entirely different perspective than you are…
Controlling airships.. Planes…taking them out... riding horseback into a battle zone…
It really breathes life into the competitive gaming realm…
Battlefield essentially has 6 different game types…
domination with is your typical capture and hold, rush witch is an attack and defend game, team death match where most kills wins… , war pigeons which is essentially a capture the flag match.. Get the pigeon, release the pigeon, and stop enemies from doing the game.
conquest, which is capture and hold but with complete mayhem going on… a true feeling of war…
and finally operations, which gives a back story to each of the fighting locations.. Here you either try to gradually capture all sections by capturing and holding 1 to 3 separate spots of a map or defend these sections by filling a kill counter...
Battlefield offers something here for everyone… a solid single player experience good enough to stand on its own... and a brilliant multiplayer that brings the multiplayer genre to new heights...
    I give battlefield 1...

Battlefield 1 is one of the most anticipated games of the year and it did not disappoint! I haven't had this much fun with a battlefield game since Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and everyone is saying this! EA and Dice could not have picked a more perfect time to release this epic World War 1 shooter! This has been a generation of future first-person shooter games with thruster packs and laser weapons, and we have said again and again that we are sick of it! I never, in a million years, expected EA to answer the cries of the gaming community, but they did!

First, I'd like to talk about the campaign. It is a breath of fresh air for the Battlefield franchise. The past 3 battlefield games have all had terrible campaigns, so much so that they made Call of Duty's futuristic campaigns look good! This is the first campaign I've actually liked since Bad Company 2. What is unique about this campaign, however, is rather than having a string of missions for the player, it has multiple strings of missions called War Stories. In each war story, the player takes on the role of a diverse set of soldiers from different walks of life, serving different countries, all with different personalities, and different goals. It almost feels episodic playing through each story, which makes it more immersive for the player. The graphics look almost real, and the sets and props only help make the game more immersive. I loved the variety of each mission: you play as a tank unit, a pilot, an infantry man, juggernaut, and the levels can range from rush and assault to stealth. The biggest problem with the campaign however is the fact that the war stories are way too short to leave a lasting emotional impression on the player! The average number of missions per story is 3 or 4! It gives you a great story than rips it away from you as soon as you really start getting into it, similar to how Halo 3: ODST's campaign felt! The upside however, unlike Halo 3: ODST, is that there is enough multiplayer content to keep you invested in the game while justifying the $60 you spent on the game. I'd give the campaign a solid 7/10. It's good! Although it could have been a Masterpiece if they had included more into each war story, and even include another war story or two.

The multiplayer, as expected, is exceptional! Although much of the content seems to be absent at launch, the modes they included are enough to keep players invested till the release of future modes, like Hardcore (which is "coming soon") The weapons are mostly good, but there is a vast lack of variety in the weapons you get! For each class, you pretty much get like 4 or 5 guns with different iterations of them, which fools you into thinking there's at least 12 or 13. The customization is definitely lacking! If you googled a list of weapons used during World War 1, there is a staggering number of weapons that Dice decided not to include into the game, which is b******t in my opinion! The game modes are all very fun! Conquest is back and better than ever! Team Deathmatch and Rush are there for players who want a more chaotic experience! I've enjoyed my play time in Domination, especially. And while I enjoy War Pigeons a lot, it feels more like a camping simulator than anything else. My team took a pigeon one time, set a ton of charges all around a building and just waited inside until we were ready to release our pigeon. We won in nearly 4 minutes. Regardless the multiplayer modes are all a blast to play. The best new feature of the multiplayer is a new mode called Operations! Where you literally take part in key battles, where you play as a member of an army trying to push the enemy lines back or defend them from falling into enemy hands. Once captured, another huge area of the map opens up, and you have to defend/capture that area next, and then again, and then again! These matches can last 2 hours long, maybe more! This is an incredible addition, and one I hope is included in future Battlefield games. I do wish, however, that more operations were included at launch. We only got 4 at launch. That said, there ares something technical issues with the game that have affected every single mode in Battlefield, especially my multiplayer experience. When going to the menu, you often freeze up and get killed before you can close it. It's especially frustrating when my game crashes and I have to restart the game all over again. Loading a game can take up to three minutes for me, although my friends haven't experienced this issue as much as I have. Hopefully, we get a patch soon that fixes these issues. Multiplayer is a 9/10! It's Great

While Battlefield has its issues, it is a great game; arguably one of the best of 2016! It's a huge step up from Battlefield Hardline. However, it could have been a masterpiece. There is a lot holding it back from getting a 10/10, and it's painful to know that just a little more effort from DICE would have made this game that much more polished!

I like it. Campaign is good. Graphics are very nice. Sound is awesome. Multiplayer is very fun.

    A couple minor gripes.
    1. I miss c4, would be nice to have sticky dynamite.
    2. Using the AT rocket in prone takes some getting use to.
    3. It can be quite challenging taking out a heavy tank if your team is full of ID ten tangos.

-Skilled players can rape the noobs so you don't need to worry about COD migrators like in other BF games.
    -Dynamic weather makes it realistic.
-No more knife-countering like in BF4
    Cons
-Too much clown fiesta in smaller maps (Argonne Forest and Amiens specifically)
    -Short campaign.
-Not too much variety in weapons, about 3 variants per weapon.
    -Glitches
    -Shotguns being OP.
    -Grenade spam ****
-If you were a fan of TDM and Rush in previous games then **** you I guess, all the player base are basically playing Operations and Conquest.
-Auto-resupplying grenades and gadgets (magnet for casual COD toddlers)

There is much more into the game but you have to figure that out for yourself, buy the game, build a squad with some friends at you will have great times.

This is one of the worst displays of any shooter of this generation, DICE could have thrown together random guns from every title they've ever made and it would still be better than the utter contrived mess of a game.

Almost through my entire time playing this game all I could see was the glaring flaws, exploits and glitches that were never ending. Some pistols were stronger than normal assault rifles, some light machine guns could beat a sniper at any range and the game is overall so unbalanced you may as well not even play it if you have it.

When DICE tried to patch these problems they made the game even worse and unbalanced just to show there utter ineptitude to balance a game in any sense of the word

Battlefield 1 has around 5 times less guns then Battlefield 4 shipped, customization is non-existent except swapping out guns with zero attachments unless you count a bayonet which literally every primary except LMGs can have

Certain maps such as the desert ones are so unbalanced that one time has almost certain victory on certain game modes such as capture the flag.

This should not be allowed and this games only redeeming qualities are it's visuals and setting, if you want a good shooter play Battlefield 4 before you play this abhorrent unbalanced mess.

    EA/devs just don't care.

The game is also very unstable on various pc configurations. If you have a GTX780 or 690, you will crash to desktop every 10 minutes of game play. The crashes and hacks combine together to yield an unplayable game, which garners a score of zero.

If you're expecting improvement on BF4, don't get your hopes up. BF1 is so unimaginative and boring - I was really looking forward to this game, I thought it would be a fresh chapter for Battlefield and a game I could enjoy for the next year or so. When I first started playing, I was really impressed, it's a stunning, cinematic game with really quite immersive sound effects. But after the first 10 hours or so of Multiplayer battles I got bored.

For me there's 2 really big problems I have with the game causing it to get boring.
1- There's a real lack of maps and the ones that are available are not designed for all game modes. If you play domination on one map in particular, whoever spawns on the correct side will be pretty much guaranteed a win because of the advantage you get in position. The maps have got boring very quickly and most of them are catered for sniping with too many large open areas.

2- For me BF1 has the worst progression/unlock system of any battlefield I've played. It's so easy to unlock nearly all of the guns, and then there's a huge gap in level before you can unlock the Level 10 guns, which are basically the best guns in the game. I understand it's world war 1 and there wasn't quite the arsenal available that we have now, but the way they've done it is really poor.

The shooting mechanics are pretty good and in general the game plays well with not many bugs/glitches. It's just the longevity that this game lacks and it really disappointed me. The Premium subscription is also a real let down. Gamers' don't want to pay £50 for half a game on release and then be asked for another £40 to get the rest of it. I really hope there is an end to paid DLC in the next battlefield, it splits the community and eventually you'll end up with less players because of it.

But this one completely obliterates the previous ones.... well maybe not bf 1942, it was amazing for its time. If i was to compare it to a previous battlefield game, i'd have to say It's as fun as playing bad company for the first time. It was the one console version that I really enjoyed. Though the BF1 campaign was a bit short, and leaves a little more to be desired in terms of length and depth. The multiplayer feels more "Battlefield" than ever. The hectic firefights near objectives is more common than ever, sometimes a bit too common. Many of the maps are very well made and have litany of interesting areas, good cover, and tons of destructibility. The new modes are also a welcome change, though most of the player base will probably stick with conquest. By far the worst map is Sinai desert, which left me worried after the beta, but not to worry, as most of the maps play wonderfully and the game is pretty well balanced. Though the multiplayer feels good, it does feel a little too familiar, I would've liked to see a little more variation in game modes or level progression. Most of the performance issues, bugs, and balance issues from the beta have also been worked out. The game runs very well on both consoles as well as recommended PC hardware, and looks damn well to boot, 9' of the best looking games ever made. Some of the bugs and performance issues remain, though, and only time will tell how long it will take for patches and foxes to come out. Despite slight issues, this launch is proving to be much smoother and polished than the notoriously rocky Battlefield 3 and 4 launches. Through 30 hours of play I have experienced a handful of minor bugs and only one full crash. The only things that prevent this game from being 10/10 is some performance issues, multiplayer that feels a bit familiar, a good campaign that had the potential to be amazing, and the aggressive dlc plans that will eventually fragment the player base into those who buy dlc and those who don't. Overall, an amazing job Dice and I look forward to playing BF1 for months and maybe even years to come. Expand

    Simply amazing. Even the campaign.

The only drawback for me is that the unlock system/customization is not as deep as the prior BF games, but I suppose that is a plus for most people.

    This is a 100% must-buy.

Battlefield 1 is good. It will be THE shooter to beat this year. Why? Developer Dice realized it needed to push shooters forward, and that meant taking a few steps back. Developer Dice realized it needed to push shooters forward, and that meant taking a few steps back. Setting BF1 in World War 1 allowed DICE to strain all the fat from the now bloated Battlefield series. EA is obsessed with pushing out a “killer app” to counter COD’s success, and developer Dice was nearly another casualty of that fruitless obsession. Remember when EA pushed Crysis 3 as the killer app? But with COD in decline, why bother? Dice knows gamers are fatigued by the futuristic trash out today. With every game cloning each other, someone had to offer something different. So why not visit the past? And with BF1’s success, I’m sure COD will push out another world war title of its own soon enough.

BF1 is far from perfect. But let’s start with the positives. Foremost, BF1 looks and sounds spectacular. It’s a tremendous step up from BF4, which I think is overrated in most regards. Not surprisingly, BF1 looks similar to its Battlefront cousin. Character models were lifted directly from Battlefront, so at times I feel like I’m on the Endor moon gunning down Stormtroopers. That said, animations are less cartoony than previous Battlefields. The environments are amazing. Not only do the maps look great, they play great too. They feel inspired by Battlefield 2 and 3. Those maps emphasized cover, choke points, and infantry combat. Although vehicles are important in BF1, their roles are now supportive. Tanks are a real pain to take down, but they’re slow and easy to out flank. Thank the gaming gods I don’t have to worry about 4-wheelers covered in C4 anymore.

Gunplay is solid. Many WWI period weapons were heavy with low recoil. So semi auto and automatic rifles are pretty darn effective. Moderate damage is offset by superb accuracy and range. Sniper rifles are more effective as well because of increased bullet velocity. Now, even casual players can snipe without investing a 40+ hours to learn bullet drop etc. Some players are already complaining about the easiness of sniping. They’re crybabies. Unlike BF3 and 4, snipers are easy to hunt down. They can’t parachute on top of radio towers or skyscrapers. Because sniping is more effective, I see more players becoming scouts to take on other snipers. The only players complaining about sniping in BF1 are those who don’t understand map control.

Weapon variety is sparse. This is only disappointing because so many weapons existed during WW1. However, weapon balance is a problem in every shooter and too many weapons create headaches. Class customization has been simplified for the same reasons. As a result, class roles are straightforward. Too bad players don’t understand that.

Most importantly, BF1 performs surprisingly well (comparatively). Hit detection is excellent due to increased server tickrates and better optimization. Dice dumped the clunky battlelog menu for something more streamlined and user friendly.

So what’s wrong with it? BF1 is incomplete. Certain game modes-like hardcore-are missing with no indication when they’ll be up and running. Viewing stats is aggravatingly slow. Postgame states aren’t saved locally, so they have to be loaded each time viewed. I’m forced to wait 5-10 seconds just to review squad performance after a round, then another 5-10 to review my individual scores. The chat screen is buggy as heck.

Matches randomly freeze for 1-2 seconds. It’s a multiplatform issue affecting a large number of players. I gave up playing the Operations mode because servers are unreliable. Squad chat breaks between games. So players rely on Xbox chat which means virtually no one chats ingame.

Spawns aren’t much better than Battlefront. So except to be spawn killed 20% of the time. Part of the problem is BF1’s boots on the ground focus. Players are everywhere, so it’s hard to spawn away from the action. The biggest problem is Dice hasn’t figured out how to calculate a safe zone. I can’t spawn on a squad mate who is taking fire from a sniper 50 yards away, but I can spawn on him if an enemy is 8ft away looking right at him. Then we both get shot. Other times I spawn on a squad mate taking damage and finish off the guy shooting him. I don’t understand why this problem keeps rearing its head.

The campaign is brief. Dice could’ve painted a gritty perspective into the spectacles and horrors of WWI. I can’t help but feel Dice spotlighted the Harlem Hellfighters for PR points. That’s a shame. There is such a rich history here, but the choppy campaign doesn’t do it justice. It lacks emotional context. Do yourself a favor and research the Hellfighters.

I wanted to give BF1 an 8/10, but its incomplete. Missing game modes, server disconnects, broken chat, and wedged-in campaign hold it back. The fledgling Titanfall series runs perfectly out of the gate, so what’s Dice’s excuse? Still, BF1 at launch is superior to BF4’s current state. It really is Dice’s best work since the Battlefield 2 series.

I don't know that words can describe how much I've been enjoying this game. The graphics are awesome, the game play is great, and at times I find myself in awe at how how epic it is. It needs a few little tweeks here and there, but nothing game breaking, nothing that even hurts the experience and knowing Dice they'll have that stuff worked out pretty quickly. This game is a must have.

When you go prone in the mud, then that gets on your gun also. The sounds seem very authentic for how you would genuinely expect each weapon to sound and the controls are tight and responsive.

I appreciate next to classic modes (conquest) a half-story operation modes from the three parts of the Europe in WWI. Gameplay similar with the Battlefield 4, but improved, more comfortable and fair. There are many great assets like mortars, rifle granades or bomb traps.
Negatives are long loading time, rare problem with matchmaking and also fact, that all nations have the same weapons and vehicles. Yeah, it is a arcade, but it has negative effect on the atmosphere. Unique weapons/vehicles for each nation would be better choice. But summary great FPS game.

-SLOW and I mean SLOW XP GAIN-let me get on that. It's like Ubi Soft's Rainbow six siege. The idea is to give you the smallest amount of XP possible per match. Why you might ask? So you spend real money(awful micro transactions on XP boosts and other items. I find it appalling that as I looked in the upper right hand corner I see time to next level-2 hours when the matches are at least 25 minutes a piece.
-Battle packs-Play over 4 hours of matches to get maybe one battle pack-which you don't even really need anyway..you can scrap the battle packs for in game currency (most of the time it is only worth 30) to buy other items. Or if you have money and want to spend it you can buy the battle packs..hell they even have the short cut packs now which they started in BF3. Now a days EA has the model when 60 bucks doesn't get you the game anymore they want you to spend 150..I got the deluxe edition which gave me two skins a skin for a titan fall and some weapons that i coulda bought in game for 200 currency in game..Ridiculous..EA sucks.Ea Destroys everything it touches look at Bioware!

"An Exercise is Frustration" or "Why not WWII?" are my choices, and I wish I majored in English so I could find a way to creatively combine the two. Let me begin by saying BF1 is not a bad game. 6/10 is a perfectly fair rating, and, by my metics, qualifies the games as "average." The problem with the game is that it's objectively worse that Battlefield 3 and 4 in just about every measurable way. The few areas in which the game surpasses its predecessors are the campaign (barely, holy hell just barely), graphics and sound, and class design. The campaign is a complete joke, clocking in about about 5 hours of boring, repetitive, ridiculous shooting gallery after shooting gallery. They had an opportunity to make a creative, memorable experience using the "War to end all wars," but instead wasted the setting completely. This waste of an opportunity carries into multiplayer. There is literally no reason for this game taking place in WWI other than for marketing. The game never takes advantage of the time period. It makes the game worse at every level. The guns are worse, the vehicles are worse, the gadgets are worse. Everything is worse because of the setting. The lack of weapon variety is offensive. 3 submachine guns. THREE. Every one of the medic's DMRs feel exactly the same, varying only in accuracy and magazine count. The class design is much improved, however, as the game sets the role for each class. Unlike in BF4, not every class can fill every role, and while I personally don't like that, it is an improvement when it comes to game design. The maps are great for conquest and the new operations game mode, but are absolutely horrible for infantry-centered game modes like TDM and Domination.
In the end, if you're a battlefield fan, buy it. You'll enjoy it. But if you don't own any Battlefield game, then buy BF4 first. It's a MUCH better game. If Dice had simply set the game 35 years in the future, most of my complaints would not be an issue. WWI is too limited a setting when Dice doesn't use it to its full potential. Remember earlier when I was contemplating possible titles for this review? I just thought of a better one: "A Satisfactory Disappointment: How Dice Managed to Waste One of the Most Interesting Historical Time Periods."

Essentially, Battlefield 3/4 managed to entrance the player into a conflict in which the average person with some military interest can relate too. Ultimately, any variation of the game set in a historic setting far away from contemporary warfare feels a little bit off and slightly affects the level of immersion. Whilst I still think that Bf1 is an amazing game and possibly a contender in its genre for game of the year, I don't think it's as good as its previous instalments.

Gameplay wise, like all Battlefields it’s a good compromise between the overly realistic ARMA and the faster paced COD. Graphically, its stunning. Multiplayer is still buggy & Online customisation could be improved. In hindsight, I'd still buy the game again as current triple A title alternatives have not impressed at all. However, I’m doubtful whether the game will have the same lasting appeal as its previous instalment and this could be a major drawback for most fans. I think '7' is an honest rating for this game as it is above average yet missing the allure that made bf3/4 so immersive and enticing.

With many games feeling hampered by a desire to try and blend authenticity with sensationalism, Battlefield 1 is a hell of a lot of fun – a visual powerhouse and a fine return to form for DICE that’s sadly hampered by stretches of extreme frustration caused by the studio’s desire to take one step too many into the past.
