I left AC while wandering around in America aimlessly after one of the best gaming experiences of my life in the Ezio trilogy. Came back to try origins but found it just ok, never finished it. So much so that I went back and finished Origins, then bought and played Syndicate, Rogue, and Unity. All good games and a lifesaver in a time where I'm not getting out much. But I'm now 135 hours in to Valhalla and i'm just not liking it. It's become a chore I have to finish. The main quest resonates even less than Origins, i'm just not caring. Where are the historical characters? Other than a cartoon version of Ivar? Where is my animal sidekick from Odyssey? What is the point of the world events if there is little or no loot? I've had to back up and reload several times due to bugs or blowups looking many hours of game play. I'm so sick of looking at the horrible fishing animation and empty arms where the big fish should be. I'm certain the big flatfish does not exist. How many bears yield no fur? My game is a reindeer apocalypse and I've gotten two antlers. Why did I spend full price and play a crappy game when I know that Ubisoft games are buch better and very inexpensive a year later? Game is full of bugs making it impossible to progress in the story. Support from Ubisoft severely lacking - many waiting over a month for fixed.

If it wasn't for these bugs and literally being unable to finish the main story it would have gotten a much higher score. Game is otherwise very enjoyable but can get tedious towards the end as enemies don't scale with characters level making it

Pretty good, but some weird situations with many NPC's and enemies, and the part of the story that directly links to the animus throws me out of the experience often. I love the world, gear, music and the way Eivor (male) are put together.

Jogo muito diferente dos anteriores. Estou com mais de 30 horas e estou adorando. No início me senti perdido pois parece um RPG que não faz parte da IP do AC. Conforme você avança vai se tornando mais familiarizado com AC.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla has 3 (at least so far) beautifully crafter maps, each one has it's own tone. Voice acting is good, graphics are amazing at times, runs well.

Esta versión es muy carente de valor, para ser un juego de consola, se ve peor que PS4.

Yo lo jugué 3 horas y se colgó el juego sin motivo alguno, por favor gente, no lo compren para Xbox One, mejor para PC o PS4.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you are looking for a game with a structured story line that allows you to play the part of a clear protagonist then look past AC (Assassins Creed) Valhalla as you will not find that here.

If you like the idea of your primary requirement for progression being to raid, kill and pillage innocent villages and monasteries and burn down the cottages of suffering villagers then by all means this is the game for you! In addition you also get the choice to have an affair with the wife of your best friend and adopted brother. Super! It really makes you feel like a genuine hero... =-/

I gave up hope on the AC series after AC Unity. I tried to give the series a chance again with Odyssey and Origins but was unimpressed. That being said, I liked the story of both WAY better then Valhalla.
Despite my recent negative experiences, after seeing awesome commercials and reading rave reviews I had a renewed hope for the series and decided to get the game. After 50+ hours playing the game waiting for things to make sense, provide a sense of purpose and for the story-line to evolve into one where the main character Eivor becomes a good guy I came to the realization that was never going to happen and here I am writing this review.

The final straw for me was when a Viking comrade (Ivarr) tricks you (Eivor) into attacking an opposing king (After a Peace deal was made) by framing that opposing king for the murder of a mutual friend . Ok, whatever, I can deal with that you gotta come up with creative reasons to fight big battles... After all, its just a game. The part that absolutely disgusted me is after the battle you are forced to standby while Ivarr tortures the King (who had previously bested Ivarr in a battle and let Ivarr go instead of killing him). No matter what you decide for in game choices (1 - Let the king go, 2 - Let him die from his wounds, 3 - Ok Ivarr do w/e it is you want to do to the king) the game ends up with you watching Ivarr torture a guy for something he didn't do. Furthermore, Ivarr is the one who framed the king and actually killed the mutual friend. If your like me your wondering what the point of in game choices are if they don't effect the outcome. Clearly the choices are superficial. That's lame...

Final note - If you may find yourself offended by consistent smears, comments and attacks on the christian faith throughout this game I would advise you to avoid AC Valhalla.

Thank you UBISoft for taking a fantastic series that began with Altaïr and Ezio dragging it through the mud while simultaneously riding its coat tails.

The quality Story, Cinematic Cut Scenes, Fighting Style, Stealth requirement and Character/Plot development I came to know and love in the AC series seen in Altaïr and Ezio's time is gone and clearly it is not coming back.

To be honest, it was pretty disappointing. There is no new mechanics from the previous game i played, it feels as if it was the same game, same type of missions, and nothing really new was added. i don't want to sound negative, but because of my experience with AC, it kinda makes it feel like the RPG FIFA. It changes very little, the story is not great. Most of the missions you do just fill like filler, and it gets super long. I didn't get invested in my character, i don't care for his struggles. The only reason why i kept going was just to finish it because i was bored. At the beginning, (first 20 hours) i would try and investigate all of the world. Then i realized it was the same process, which never really gave e and advantage. It was just more loot (useless, and didn't make a huge difference). The story just didn't grab me, the side characters never developed. There was no growth, no pain, no struggle to keep you going wondering what would happen next. This will probably be my last AC purchase. The story wasn't good, the mechanics of the game are just a wash up. Nothing significantly new or exciting. Honestly if you're thinking of picking this game up, i would say wait till it's on sale. Expand

Thank god i found Gamespot review for Cyberpunk 2077, they literally gave Cyberpunk 2077 lower score than Valhalla. Cyberpunk must be really buggy, because 7/10 is pretty low score for game that has been in development over 7 years. So as of right now i bought Valhalla and so far it's pretty nice. Seems like Cyberpunk 2077 didn't live up to expectations. I watched some gameplay and nothing looked extremely new or interesting. More like same old, same old. Bough AC Valhalla instead and so far it's really fun. Of course AC Valhalla isn't anything new either, but at least it's fun and less buggy unlike Cyberpunk 2077.

This is best Ubisoft game in 3 years. I can't believe they delivered so well this time. Odyssey was big disappointment to me, so i wasn't expecting much. Yeah it had some bugs, but ones that annoyed me got fixed with patch 1.0.4. Apparently Cyberpunk 2077 is even buggier, so whoever whines about Valhalla bugs is just hypocrite at this point.

Valhalla isn't too different from the previous two AC instalments. Why then, do i dislike it so much more? It looks just as pretty, it plays much the same, but it is also such a chore.

Jarring cutscene transitions, annoyingly timed check-points, annoyingly placed fast-travel points, weird selection of NPC accents (an American in Viking age England?), NPC merchants that won't stop flailing their arms, and so many little, sometimes not so little, bugs.

Worse, is the way the narrative is split across so many clearly defined zones, meaning you always know your progress, but more specifically, how much progress is left to do. It also makes the story itself easy to forget. I literally had to google whether i'd finished the story. I wasn't sure. I was so lost with what i had even been working towards. It's incredibly bizarre how moral the protagonist is, and yet we spend so much time burning down villages. Could we have not leaned into the character's dark side at all, or would that be asking too much of the writers?

The combat is not good enough considering how much of it there is. You can just button mash most of the time. The entire game is very, very easy. It was only when i was severely under-levelled and at the end of the game, that i found any sort of challenge. This suggests a balancing issue as well. The RPG mechanics are more pointless than ever, with you even able to re-spec your skills at any time. That's not an RPG. That is just giving me busy-work in the menu's after every mission.

To conclude, there is way too much of everything in Valhalla. It means a lot of repetition, and most significantly, a lack of quality.

I like Orlog though, which is a side activity in the game, and the world events. Everything else, however, is devoid of any creativity.

Let's get to the point, just not as good as Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

Okay, let's start with the good. The graphics are best in class for the whole series. The game's progression without a stupid high gear or skill level is very rewarding. If I want more of a challenge I could up the difficulty at any time. But if I just want to get through the story this is excellent. UNLIKE UNITY! But

I love the story format. Going to a new land, building your settlement, gathering allies, doing raids, all that good stuff. It's very good. The direction is on point and the best in any Assassin's Creed game.

Now for the bad, the puzzles, I guess I'm just not a big fan. I hate the combat, it's not as good as Assassin's Creed Odyssey. The parry maneuver is terrible, the blocking with shields is clunky and slow. I want fast pace super combat, so this isn't it.

The story is boring, except for the real world parts. That's the reason I still play. At least they got that down.

My game crashes at least once a day. The glitches... too many to count. It's extremely subpar for a AAA game in 2020. Not only is the whole story one boring quest after the other (go here and fight, then fight over there). A lot of the knocks on I've heard is there's too much stuff to do and it gets boring.... well first those things completely cancel each other out so you cant pay attention to those critics. plus this is eventually going to become an MMO, and gamers are constantly crying for more content in there games well this game has a ton of it right now with more already in development. The only thing preventing this game from equaling The Witcher 3 for me is its story. Which isn't bad I'm acually impressed with all the homework they did for this game as all the characters that weren't the pro and antagonist are real people and the way they intertwined history into there own AC narrative wasn't as bad as ive seen it made out to be. How can anyone give this amazing, beautiful Assassin's Creed game 0/10?? It's one of the best in the series, so whoever gives it 0 is clearly not a fan and never has been. I bet these people are just envy that this game gets attention. How tasteless and pathetic someone needs to be to give some good game 0/10 just because they are envy? The game is garbage and boring. The whole Nordic thing just doesn't fit in with assassins creed it just doesn't. This seems like a witcher 3 wannabe and it falls flat on its flat face. The game performance also takes a nose dive with screen tearing and frame rate issues. Trading it in and buying something else not my type of game.

    - The controls are clunky and random, with no focus able to be had by simply letting your mouse point the way. You must manually focus each target, otherwise you will attack ANYTHING on the field. You might be looking at one target, but once you attack, you will turn around 180 degrees and start swinging at a target behind you that is nowhere near your attack radius.
Similarly while parkouring, your character may jump on to objects with no rhyme or reason and refuse to get off for a while, compromising a flight from a swarm of enemies in some cases.
    - The game released in a terrible state with memory leaks being (yet again) a huge culprit of crashing and freezing at regular intervals for many players.
    - The quest system is a bloated mess, with no focus to the world and random quests thrown in for xp fodder that have no bearing or impact on the narrative. Many in fact have some provoking decisions to be made that mean little in the scheme of the game.
In fact, some world quests will allow you to complete them - spoiling story quests that are coming further along in the main questline.

I wish I could in good conscience recommend this game, but in the state it's in I can't even recommend it for leisurely play until the freezing and crashing and memory leaks are addressed and taken care of.

Side quests don’t give you direction you have to work out what to do yourself (which in theory sounds interesting but actually can be annoying as you wander aimlessly wondering what the game wants you to do) Also bugs. Several times I’ve had issues EG killed a guard only for the guard that was talking to him at the time to just wander off after point blank seeing his mate drop to the floor with an arrow in his face mid conversation. After being let down by Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Origins and Odyssey i became cautiously optimistic for this title after the Devs had said they took feedback from fans seriously and made changes to bring it more in line with Classic Assassin's Creed Gameplay. upon Launch the game had a fully functioning in game item store, I'm talking minute one. this was my first knock on it. upon starting up the game i'm given the option to play either Female or Male. like whatever i don't care. went Male, upon trying to play the game on my Xbox One X, the Game experiences Load Times up to 5 Minutes. and in true Ubisoft Fashion the game features an incredible amount of game breaking bugs. from frequent crashing sending me back a few hours of play time despite there being a autosave system. to getting stuck on the side of a 1 Meter Hill. the Game experiences frequent frame rate drop, and audio and video loss. during one such occasion one of the Brothers Ragnarsson completely disappeared and lost Audio. so when addressed by Eivor or Ubba the Camera would pan to a Empty Space and the Characters would just stare at the Space in Silence. the Audio Loss is far more frequent. and by that i mean constant. the game also does not feature Norse, Dane, or Briton Swords of any type usable by the Character except for Gigantic almost unbelievably sized Darks Souls Esc Greatsword. so if you thought you would be rushing in with a Longsword you are wrong. this is despite Sword Models Existing in game for Longswords and Norse and Dane Weapons. and you will even see NPC's using them. Additionally when you put your weapons away onto your back or into the weird Loopy things all of your weapons shrink dramatically in size. which is very immersion breaking. once you see it. you cannot unsee it. a War Hammer goes from being the Size of a Paper weight to the Size of Mjlonir from the Avengers movie in a Instant. this is true for all weapons and Swords in the game. the Boat Adventures seem neat and they feature the ability for you to enable singing, or to have a crewmate tell a tale. unfortunately anytime they spot a Bandit Camp, or you go under a Bridge or see a Monestary they stop singing until you pass. and this is frequent. All in all going into this Title i said that this is Ubisofts last chance from me. i don't understand how a dev can fall so far. from creating something truly groundbreaking with the story of Altair to the lazy development shown in any of their recent titles which are blatant cash grabs featuring no actual passion like we saw in 2007. this will be the last time i spend a Dollar on a Ubisoft Title. I'd love to give this game a higher rating, but it's so buggy I just can't. The 'Assassin's creed' part of this game is great. As someone who is a hardcore fan of the older games, but hates the new RPG style, the narrative for the assassins/templar stuff and modern day story reminds me of the older games.

The 'side quests' in this game are improved also, there's a much bigger variety of them, some are kinda boring and take literally seconds to do, but they are all neat little bits of flavour in the map compared to the boring 'Go kill these bears in a cave, go clear this bandit camp' quests Odssey was full of. There's also significantly less grind and there's no need to keep chasing new gear every time you level up, since you can upgrade any type of gear.

HOWEVER, that's basically where the praise ends.

The combat feels sluggish and heavy. Even with 'Light' attacks with axes, your character isn't attacking quickly, every swing feels like you're dragging a 10 ton weight around with you. This especially annoying because there are enemy types that attack much quicker than you do with bigger weapons, so these encounters just become overly frustrating, especially when there's multiple enemies.

Although its not as bad as it was previously, areas are still 'level gated' by pointless power levels, that seem to only exist to artificially inflate the game since you're still forced to mess around doing side activities to gain levels before you can do certain areas. The worst part about this is that they didn't even bother to make the 'power' levels make sense - e.g. the higher power enemies dont have more armour, or a bigger shield etc. They are the same enemy types, just with an arbitrary higher number. Even if you drop the game to Easy difficulty, some areas are impossible without some grinding, making it harder for people who dont have time to play much.

Next, the map is just too big. There are multiple settings you travel to in the game (America, Norway, England) but they all suffer from the same problem. They are gigantic, but full of mostly nothing. This makes sense since Norway and England have a lot of mountaints, hills and fields, but from a gameplay perspective it's just boring. Compared to the older games in the franchise, where the maps were smaller but much more compact, with more detail. This game is just a series of boring looking villages and ruins, separated by giant fields and cliffs you have to run around. It ruins the immersion because it interrupts gameplay with tedious running to and fro. This is to be expected given the setting and time period, but Ubisoft chose to make a game set during this time.

As a result of this bland looking world, many of the things that added to the experience of playing as an assassin during the older games just don't exist. Parkour for example, like Oddysey, is a complete afterthought. You can't run from building to building, you can't dodge guards by darting through a window and coming out of the other side of the street like in Unity, you can't use the architecture to escape or chase your prey. Instead, like Odyssey, buildings are really far apart and either one-story, or giant towers, so there's no fluid movement between the two. You climb one building, run across the street, climb the next, run across the street, climb the next. You're not living on the rooftops like Altair or Ezio, jumping from wall to wall, you're just gently climbing buildings like a slow, heavy oaf.

This also affects other aspects like Blending in with crowds, or benches. The buildings are so far apart that you can't dart round corners to hide, because every area is just large open spaces. Despite the reintroduction of some of the classic stealth elements, you can't act like a proper stealthy character due to the level design.

Next, the problems with the 'multiple choice' dialogue that the previous two games had persists - the flow of dialogue is constantly interrupted because every time you need to make a dialogue choice ,the conversation comes to a dead stop whilst everyone is silent till you say something. This ruined the immersion before and still does now.

And finally, the bugs. This is the buggiest game i've ever played. I have a folder on my computer that i've started stockpiling full of screenshots and videos. It ranges from small bugs, like dead guards floating above the ground, or objects flapping around on the ground, to large bugs, like characters being stuck in thin air that you can no longer talk to, stopping quests from progressing, or in a few cases, I had the black & white 'hazy' screen from when you eat the mushrooms nad plants as soon I booted up the game and it wouldn't go away until I quit and reloaded again.

This is incredibly unpolished, to a point that even if you enjoy the combat, and don't care for the story beyond "I wanna be a badass viking and smash stuff up and chop off heads" your gameplay will constantly be interrupted by bugs

Assassin's Creed Valhalla isn't a light, fast and pragmatic Viking ship. It's a Titanic, magnificent, massive, and majestic, made to lead players through a 9th-century epic. With enough content to keep players busy for hours and hours, it's not threatened by any iceberg but rather by the weight of its own size. For the most dedicated, this can be a treat, but for many others, it could be a game they'll leave unfinished, living forever in the backlog.

Even with its technical shortcomings on last-generation hardware, it is hard to not call Assassin’s Creed Valhalla an amazing open-world RPG. It’s obvious that Ubisoft did its homework and learned from Origins and Odyssey. Valhalla’s story is one of the best not only in the franchise but in the open-world RPG genre. The world is vast but not laden with empty, pointless space. Combat is addicting, character customization is the best the franchise has ever seen, and the welcome return of composer Jesper Kyd makes for one of last year’s most immersive and satisfying experiences.
