This is most fun game i have played in 2020. Final Fantasy VII Remake was epic, but these are way too different games to compare. One of the best in 2020?

AC Odyssey was weak, everyone knows it, but Valhalla was solid step back to what made AC games good. People seem to forget that Black Flag had huge open world to explore, so many locations. Only games from now on that deserve to be inspiration for future assassin's creed's are following: AC 4 Black Flag, Unity, some parts of Origins and Valhalla. That's it. I really believe in your company, you have made some great games over the years, please listen to your actual fans, who have supported you for years. Don't listen to small minority who just wants attention and wants to whine about your new games. They don't like anything you have made since 2013, there's absolutely zero reason to listen to them. It's easily one of the best games of 2020, there's not even much competition. Like of the few games that can compete with this (from 2020) is Final Fantasy VII Remake and maybe Doom Eternal, that's literally it. This is just my opinion, just like youtuber Luke Stephens had his opinion. Well he is 100% wrong and has absolutely no idea what he is talking about. There's absolutely no question that i'm bigger AC fan that he could ever dream to be. Calling Valhalla garbage is biggest joke in years. Valhalla is easily better than both Origins and specially Odyssey. Valhalla is first AC game in long time where it has been really interesting to finally explore the open world. You mentioned how interesting pyramids were in Origins, well of course. But here the thing, they were one of the few interesting things about Origins. Most of it was boring empty desert. I don't hate Origins, but it wasn't as interesting as Valhalla. Valhalla has way better story, better character and better open world. You said that England doesn't have landmarks or places to explore. Kidding me? London? Stonehenge? Huge castles? Mountains in Norway? There's so much to explore. Valhalla is easily one of the better designed maps Ubisoft has ever done, just behind Black Flag. There you go. You said that you laugh at people who think Origins is meh, well i laugh at you saying that Valhalla is garbage. There's clearly, very clearly more people who like Valhalla than Origins. Valhalla was biggest PC launch for Ubisoft EVER. It had over 2 million players in launch month alone. Jor Raptor gets 100 000s views on almost every Valhalla video he makes. People very clearly like this game and many have said that they absolutely love Valhalla map designs. Showing your "poll" as some evidence is BS, because most people answered that they haven't even played this game, but you said that people agree with you. Hell no. Thankfully you don't get that many views, so i don't really care that much, but this one video made me write this, because it was just too much nonsense. If you can have your BS opinion, then i have every right to have my opinion about your video and point out false things. I have been Assassin's Creed supporter and fan over 10 years and i very likely like games that you don't even like, because you seem like somebody who hops on hype trains. You know very well that people who whine about new games are just nostalgia nerds who hate every game after AC 3. I have always liked Unity and even Syndicate and i strongly doubt you like them. If you do, fair, but my point about Valhalla's map stands. Expand

Dull and boiler plate game. This series has slipped so far it is ridiculous. Pick another Ubi franchise, replace the names in the story, retexture the activities and you have the same gam over and over again.

    Bad:

Things that were supposed to be different in this version: less open world activities to do (wrong, there are just as many boring icons to look at as before), no side quests (they just renamed them to something else), more "assassin-y" (not really).

Valhalla is even more boring than the last game. It reminds me of AC3, a place I had no interest in visiting that is just a bunch of woods with towns laying around. Nothing in the world made me want to explore. The voice acting is pretty bad, especially the female Eivor. It is like they told the actress to make herself sound like Odin or Zeus. It just sounds dumb. The story it the same typical story in every game.

The bugs, even after all the patches, are bad. After installing the latest patch and playing for 5 minutes I saw vikings pop in and out as they ran, some vikings were running on air and clipping was common. Reminds me of Unity actually.

The combat is even worse than the previous 2 ACs. It's like I'm playing a strategy game now. You are so far zoomed out that it is a couple of puppets hitting each other. The combat speed also seems very wrong. I can dodge backwards but in combat it is a leisurely stroll as whatever enemy is hitting always seems to hit you anyway. Whatever combat tweaks were made to the game need to be reverted.

The skill system, which AC never needed, has gone off the deep end. Taking a page from MMOs or PoE there are now lots of little dots that you can select to get minimal benefits. It takes a lot of dots to truly have any meaning and among the list of "what were they thinking" you cannot see some dots until you can unlock them which makes planning impossible. At least if you couldn't already just go online and look up the full tree. This is a stupid mechanic probably introduced so people wouldn't realize how dumb the whole skill tree system is. This isn't an MMO...

The power level makes no sense whatsoever. I was power level 15 before leaving Norway even though I have no idea how that relates to anything because I didn't get skill points or whatever they are called. At the same time areas I look at in the map say they are power level 1 but the enemies can stomp me in seconds. In an attempt to hide "levels" I guess, Ubi has managed to create a system that is useless. What exactly is wrong with levels?

Side activities are just as dull. Again, think AC3. Flyting makes no sense and is one of the stupidest mini-games I've ever seen in a game. The other activities, like raids, fit in better but are just as dull. You raid a settlement, kill everyone there and then...nothing. Why?

    The Good:

Assassin abilities come back into play a little more than recent entries in the series. I felt I could pull it off more often in this game.

    Summary:

    Dull environment - AC 3
    Bugs - AC Unity
Revamped skills, "side quests", leveling - meaningless

This is overall a boring, generic viking adventure game filled with a map of icons that lead you to things that are just as boring for the most part. There is nothing that really lifted the gameplay up.

Complete disappointment compared to the generally excellent Immortals Fenyx Rising.

I consider myself pretty big Assassin's Creed fan, but i actually don't like early games much. They feel outdated and i'm just not enjoying them. I have finished Unity almost each year since 2015. I'm also playing 4 constantly, but i haven't finished it as much, because it's way longer game and i love to just free roam there. Now i would say that despite not liking 1,3, Revalations or Rogue (i hate to play as Templar), i would say that absolutely loving later games like 4, Unity, Syndicate and Origins makes me as much Assassin's Creed fan, as someone who only likes first 3.

In fact, i would say i'm bigger fan than these people, because if someone gave up on this series in 2012, then how can you consider yourself a fan? Maybe early fan, but overall if you hate majority of these games, then you are not fan of this series. It's that simple. Why i'm even talking about it is because watching some youtubers making videos "Valhalla disappointed me", "Valhalla is boring" etc, made it very clear that these people were never gonna like Valhalla anyway. No matter what Ubisoft did, these people wouldn't be happy right now and they would still make their videos whining about smallest details that they didn't like.

Instead of enjoying new games for that they are, instead these people want games to be what they want. That's obviously fair, but again, seems like they have ignored this series since 2012. It was so obvious what Valhalla was going to be. How can you be disappointed, when trailers and Ubisoft people on twitter made it very obvious what this game is going to be. Basically no matter what, these people just wanted Valhalla to be this most basic and boring AC Revalations or AC 3 clone and that's all these people want. That's the only AC game they want and if it's not that, then they are going to hate it. That's the sad reality actual AC fans need to live in, where Ubisoft makes great games, but nostalgic people who can't move on are going to hate these games and make their videos. Main problem with these videos is that these people are very clearly trying to manipulate and make other people believe that this game (and other games) suck. While actually problem is not the game, problem is that they just don't like it. Just cause you don't like something, doesn't mean that it's actually bad ya know?

Conclusion : I very much enjoyed Valhalla, it's not perfect, but it's way better than Odyssey was. Story is more interesting than Odyssey's story. It has beautiful graphics, not as good as RDR 2, but still good enough and very modern looking. Combat is fun, main character (male Eivor) is very likable and better than main characters in Origins and Odyssey.

While it plays similarly to Origins and Odyssey, I think people who may have been turned off AC for a while will have something to love with this game, as it is different enough from the previous two to really stand out and shine. I can confidently say that Valhalla is Ubisoft's best Assassin's Creed game in a long time, perhaps since Black Flag. I played a lot of Odyssey and loved it as well, but it never quite felt like an Assassin's Creed game. Valhalla is the end result of Ubisoft almost perfecting the open world RPG formula they began with Origins, as well as a properly balancing the assassin aspect so the series does not lose its identity.

I've put over 60 hours into this game so far and I feel like I've only made it halfway through. Valhalla is huge, but it doesn't feel like its blatantly huge for the sake of being so, similar to how Odyssey was. Instead, Valhalla trims the fat that often made Odyssey feel like a slog to play through. Don't get me wrong, the game is still huge and some people may still find it tough to finish, but side-quests have been replaced with quick and easy world events, icons aren't littered all over the map this time and instead you are forced to really explore to find out what certain areas hold - the game is similarly designed to Far Cry 5 in that sense, where they incentivize players to really explore the worlds they're in rather than making it feel like a checklist of things to do.

The gear system seems to be controversial in this game - the game approaches loot entirely differently to how both Origins and Odyssey did it. A lot of people complained that Odyssey especially felt grindy, so I think that Valhalla's loot system was Ubisoft's response to that. The game has minimal gear, nothing is random and everything is hand-made and put in pre-selected locations to find. Every time you come across an area that has loot (either gear for your character or loot to build your settlement) there is often a puzzle associated with it, further adding more depth to Ubisoft's world rather than just a checklist of things to do.

The game's world is comprised of 4 maps I believe: Norway, eastern England (largest map), Vinland, and Asgard. All of these locations are great and have their own atmosphere to them, they do not feel copy-and-paste, which is what some of the islands in Greece (Odyssey) felt to me. Valhalla's storytelling is centered around its world, which is where it also differs from previous AC games. While there is an overarching plot, each region in England has its own subplot that your character has to solve, and I love it. I had lower expectations for the writing, as Ubisoft's writing was never that great - especially compared to games like RDR2 or The Witcher 3, but Valhalla's story isn't bad - it's not amazing, but it's good; some subplots are great (East Anglia and Sciropescire in particular), and some are pretty uninteresting and bland (Essex comes to mind) but overall, the writing was better than expected.

In total, I think Valhalla is Ubisoft's best attempt at an open-world RPG yet, and they have really learned a lot from creating Origins and Odyssey, it gives me a lot of hope for their upcoming open-world games such as Far Cry 6. The AI is still unfortunately pretty bad - either enemies spot you instantly when they shouldn't be able to, or they are completely blind/deaf - for a 2020 game, I do not think Ubisoft's AI has progressed at all. The world still has certain immersion-breaking moments, I think the wildlife is kind of goofy, hunting missions with NPCs always feels really weird, etc.

Overall, I still think the game is great, and I'd give it an 8 as it has room to improve.

Also - audio - you can clearly hear certain people who recorded their voices at home or in a different studio. Basically... Every element of this game is partially unfinished. LAZY

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is another success in the series. We love that it’s starting to look back at older, more classic elements of the franchise and finding ways to reimplement them in an ever-evolving, fresh feeling new game.

When I was looking at there move away from RNG / Loot based equipment I thought it was gonna dumb down the game. Nope, I got to say its actually really good system they have here. Its like they removed all of the trash loot you weren't gonna use anyway and just left the legendary items you were always gonna hunt down first anyways. The rune system is a great way to tweak the equipment to work toward your style.

The combat feels good, its smoother, more interesting, and more challenging in its variety. The enemy armor / weak point system is a nice change of pace from just increasing the health pool. As for assassination's, as many stated the return of a one hit kill system can make it feel much more like one of the original games.

Why did I only give it an 8 you ask if I like it so much?
    1. My standards are high for a 10, it would have to surprise me and draw to me a a unique way.
    2. Its kind of long, that can get a bit repetitive.
    3. Bugs, nothing game blocking, but I have run into some annoying ones.
    4. UI & Interface, somethings are not explained well or at all. The icons are hard to understand (bear / wolf gear? I had to google to understand what that meant).
    5. Side Quests in open world: I like that they aren't a hand holding experience, but if that's the case we need more NPC interaction to tell us what they need. There are a few interactions where I couldn't tell what was going on.

Em cutscene ele fala normal e em batalha ele fala engrossando a voz! É meio zuado! Sinceramente, eu queria que tivesse mantido o sistema de personalização de armadura do Odyssey, sabe? Quando vc pega uma armadura mas bota uma aparência diferente?

People rave about The Witcher 3 and Red Dead Redemption about how beautiful it is and what a work of art it is. This game is probably the most visually stunning open world game I've ever seen. I couldn't even believe my Xbox 1 X could handle such detail, graphics in such a large area because the game map is massive. Now too some of the bad reviews credit my system couldnt quite handle it at some spots and froze and there were a few glitches but not nearly enough as i thought there would be or that it really even bothered me. If your a fan of The Witcher or Red Dead you will thoroughly enjoy this game. Do not let these youtubers prevent you from playing this amazing game. A lot of the knocks on I've heard is there's too much stuff to do and it gets boring.... well first those things completely cancel each other out so you cant pay attention to those critics. plus this is eventually going to become an MMO, and gamers are constantly crying for more content in there games well this game has a ton of it right now with more already in development. The only thing preventing this game from equaling The Witcher 3 for me is its story. Which isn't bad I'm acually impressed with all the homework they did for this game as all the characters that weren't the pro and antagonist are real people and the way they intertwined history into there own AC narrative wasn't as bad as ive seen it made out to be. Ubisoft is not known for deep engaging storytelling so to bash them for the story is just ignorance on the reviewer, what Ubisoft is known for is making huge expensive AAA games and this one they hit a home run. Okay, let's start with the good. The graphics are best in class for the whole series. The game's progression without a stupid high gear or skill level is very rewarding. If I want more of a challenge I could up the difficulty at any time. But if I just want to get through the story this is excellent. UNLIKE UNITY! But

I love the story format. Going to a new land, building your settlement, gathering allies, doing raids, all that good stuff. It's very good. The direction is on point and the best in any Assassin's Creed game.

Now for the bad, the puzzles, I guess I'm just not a big fan. I hate the combat, it's not as good as Assassin's Creed Odyssey. The parry maneuver is terrible, the blocking with shields is clunky and slow. I want fast pace super combat, so this isn't it.

The story is boring, except for the real world parts. That's the reason I still play. At least they got that down.

I love open world games that are bursting with colour and life but so far AC Valhalla feels like a slog to carry on. Changes are not appreciated, you cannot tag enemies locations with your eye in the sky anymore which is a big let down. Side quests don’t give you direction you have to work out what to do yourself (which in theory sounds interesting but actually can be annoying as you wander aimlessly wondering what the game wants you to do) Also bugs. Several times I’ve had issues EG killed a guard only for the guard that was talking to him at the time to just wander off after point blank seeing his mate drop to the floor with an arrow in his face mid conversation. Really breaks the immersion of the game. I have gone back to Origins and will play Odyssey next as I didn’t get round to it. I'd love to give this game a higher rating, but it's so buggy I just can't. The 'Assassin's creed' part of this game is great. As someone who is a hardcore fan of the older games, but hates the new RPG style, the narrative for the assassins/templar stuff and modern day story reminds me of the older games.

The 'side quests' in this game are improved also, there's a much bigger variety of them, some are kinda boring and take literally seconds to do, but they are all neat little bits of flavour in the map compared to the boring 'Go kill these bears in a cave, go clear this bandit camp' quests Odssey was full of. There's also significantly less grind and there's no need to keep chasing new gear every time you level up, since you can upgrade any type of gear.

HOWEVER, that's basically where the praise ends.

The combat feels sluggish and heavy. Even with 'Light' attacks with axes, your character isn't attacking quickly, every swing feels like you're dragging a 10 ton weight around with you. This especially annoying because there are enemy types that attack much quicker than you do with bigger weapons, so these encounters just become overly frustrating, especially when there's multiple enemies.

Although its not as bad as it was previously, areas are still 'level gated' by pointless power levels, that seem to only exist to artificially inflate the game since you're still forced to mess around doing side activities to gain levels before you can do certain areas. The worst part about this is that they didn't even bother to make the 'power' levels make sense - e.g. the higher power enemies dont have more armour, or a bigger shield etc. They are the same enemy types, just with an arbitrary higher number. Even if you drop the game to Easy difficulty, some areas are impossible without some grinding, making it harder for people who dont have time to play much.

Next, the map is just too big. There are multiple settings you travel to in the game (America, Norway, England) but they all suffer from the same problem. They are gigantic, but full of mostly nothing. This makes sense since Norway and England have a lot of mountaints, hills and fields, but from a gameplay perspective it's just boring. Compared to the older games in the franchise, where the maps were smaller but much more compact, with more detail. This game is just a series of boring looking villages and ruins, separated by giant fields and cliffs you have to run around. It ruins the immersion because it interrupts gameplay with tedious running to and fro. This is to be expected given the setting and time period, but Ubisoft chose to make a game set during this time.

As a result of this bland looking world, many of the things that added to the experience of playing as an assassin during the older games just don't exist. Parkour for example, like Oddysey, is a complete afterthought. You can't run from building to building, you can't dodge guards by darting through a window and coming out of the other side of the street like in Unity, you can't use the architecture to escape or chase your prey. Instead, like Odyssey, buildings are really far apart and either one-story, or giant towers, so there's no fluid movement between the two. You climb one building, run across the street, climb the next, run across the street, climb the next. You're not living on the rooftops like Altair or Ezio, jumping from wall to wall, you're just gently climbing buildings like a slow, heavy oaf.

This also affects other aspects like Blending in with crowds, or benches. The buildings are so far apart that you can't dart round corners to hide, because every area is just large open spaces. Despite the reintroduction of some of the classic stealth elements, you can't act like a proper stealthy character due to the level design.

Next, the problems with the 'multiple choice' dialogue that the previous two games had persists - the flow of dialogue is constantly interrupted because every time you need to make a dialogue choice ,the conversation comes to a dead stop whilst everyone is silent till you say something. This ruined the immersion before and still does now.

And finally, the bugs. This is the buggiest game i've ever played. I have a folder on my computer that i've started stockpiling full of screenshots and videos. It ranges from small bugs, like dead guards floating above the ground, or objects flapping around on the ground, to large bugs, like characters being stuck in thin air that you can no longer talk to, stopping quests from progressing, or in a few cases, I had the black & white 'hazy' screen from when you eat the mushrooms nad plants as soon I booted up the game and it wouldn't go away until I quit and reloaded again.

This is incredibly unpolished, to a point that even if you enjoy the combat, and don't care for the story beyond "I wanna be a badass viking and smash stuff up and chop off heads" your gameplay will constantly be interrupted by bugs

This game is very good, but i bet many people wont understand that, if they don't want to go deep with it. It's largely sony fanboys fault. People are literally discussing on youtube, if last of us 2 should win game of the year awards, while it was one of the weakest linear story simulators of 2020. It's just sad, but whatever, true gamers will keep enjoying good games that have actual depth. Expand

Extremely fun game, if you actually know what you are doing. If you are used to linear games that tell you what to do at every second then don't even try AC Valhalla, it's clearly not for you. This games focuses on fact that YOU will explore the world, YOU will make YOUR own journey. If you don't like these kinds of games, there's no point trying it.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla isn't a light, fast and pragmatic Viking ship. It's a Titanic, magnificent, massive, and majestic, made to lead players through a 9th-century epic. With enough content to keep players busy for hours and hours, it's not threatened by any iceberg but rather by the weight of its own size. For the most dedicated, this can be a treat, but for many others, it could be a game they'll leave unfinished, living forever in the backlog.

Even with its technical shortcomings on last-generation hardware, it is hard to not call Assassin’s Creed Valhalla an amazing open-world RPG. It’s obvious that Ubisoft did its homework and learned from Origins and Odyssey. Valhalla’s story is one of the best not only in the franchise but in the open-world RPG genre. The world is vast but not laden with empty, pointless space. Combat is addicting, character customization is the best the franchise has ever seen, and the welcome return of composer Jesper Kyd makes for one of last year’s most immersive and satisfying experiences.

Assassin’s Creed brings beautiful English countryside to the masses whilst fixing a lot of the series’ recent missteps. Some genuinely fun and surprising moments with some great writing make for a fun time.
